Kaya-Iloilo defender Carlyle Mitchell once played against Messi
pfl.org.ph

The Philippines Football League brought to you by Qatar Airways is the latest stop to what has so far been an exhilarating journey for Kaya FC-Iloilo defender Carlyle Mitchell.

The well-traveled former Trinidad and Tobago international was signed early this year by Kaya, reuniting Mitchell with former teammate Yu Hoshide who now handles the first team.

Mitchel and Hoshide played together at Joe Public FC. And while Hoshide has spent the last few years in the Philippines, the 33-year-old Mitchel has gone on to play in Major League Soccer, Canadian Premier League, K-League 2, and the Indian Super League.

That vast experience will surely come in handy as Kaya mounts another title challenge this season.

“It’s great to be back training and looking forward for the season.” said Mitchell in the latest episode of Kaya’s online show Back of the Net.

When you talk about experience perhaps Mitchell boasts of one of the most impressive resumes in the league.

He has gone up against Argentinian superstar Lionel Messi in an international friendly in Buenos Aires six years ago. Messi failed to score, but the La Albiceleste won, 3-0, in their final warmup before the 2014 World Cup.

“We lost that game,” said Mitchell, who appeared 39 times for his country. “But it was a good experience to be in the same pitch as one of the best players in the world.”

Mitchell instantly strengthened the Kaya backline as soon as he came in joining forces with veterans Masa Omura, Simone Rota and Camelo Tacusalme.

The Iloilo club’s defensive record in the AFC Cup early this year was proof of his impact.

The club conceded only one goal in their three matches before the competition was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

With clubs returning to training under strict health protocols, Mitchell is setting his sights on a strong debut season in the PFL.

“The guys around me have experience as well, maybe we can win the league, no doubt,” he said.

In 2015 Fabien Lewis was the head coach of this team.

The real measure of a man's character is what he would do if he knew he would never be found out.

I hope to never see that back line of Carlyle Mitchell, danial cyrus, Sheldon bateau, aubrey david and mikel Williams, these guys are way too inconsistent and lack concentrations. it’s quite obvious that these boys never worked on their skill set instead taking football for granted, as usual, and not putting in the work required to be a top class footballer.

another  mistake that i Hope fenwick never make is to invite marvin phillip back in the team, that bastard is the reason why we’ve lost 80% of our games when he was in goal, I would really hate it to see him back in the team.

So yeh terry. we want a whole new back line, a new set of goalies who play on a higher level and a total blanking of bums like leston paul, Daniel cyrus, Sheldon bateau, kavan george, cordel cato, in fact these are the only players I think should be back in the team.

Kevin molino, jovin Jones, neval hackshaw, tristin hodges, Alvin Jones, levi garcia, the telfer guy from canada, Daniel carr and hyland. everyone else, thank you for service.

Carlyle Mitchell and Kaya FC-Iloilo have qualified for the AFC Champions League for the very first time courtesy a 1-0 victory over Shanghai Port. They will be grouped with Thailand’s BG Pathum United FC, South Korea’s Ulsan Hyundai, and Vietnam’s Viettel.

Carlyle Mitchell from TT,to USA and now Phiipines, they must be the weakest team in Asia,I can't help but mention yet again ,why do people take a dig at some of our players who play in India.I think our players can do as well in Thailand as they do in TT,there are much better crowds and our standing in world football is probably the same virtually.

But how yuh could say they’re the weakest team in Asia and they on top their league ( of which Qatar airways sponsor) ? Ah mean we don’t seem to even have a league going, we have. Tournament. What does it matter if we ain’t giving any of those Asian players a call anyway, let them work where they get it and possibly enjoy themselves. Less stress, more appreciation. I’m sure, they like everyone else would love to play in any UEFA clubs, but if no calls coming (top club or country), they have to make do and live their life. Wishing all of those guys the best, I admire them.
