Inseung Jung and Trevor Browne struck gold for Trinidad and Tobago at the 2011 Pan Am Open Taekwondo Championships, in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA, two weekends ago.

Sixteen-year-old Jung captured the male 14-17 black belt light heavyweight title, beating Canada's Alexander Henry in fourth round sudden death after battling to a 5-5 draw over three rounds.

Browne claimed the male 18-32 yellow belt heavyweight title with a dominant performance against Costa Rica's Mario Segura. Leading 19-6 in the third round, Browne earned a "win by superiority". In another contest, Browne beat American Matthew Snyder 8-1. Nicholas Elliot and Lexi Browne picked up silver in Las Vegas, while two other T&T taekwondoists, Dorian Alexander and Emile Persaud bagged bronze.

In the opening round in the male 8-9 blue belt lightweight competition, Elliot won when his opponent Adam Zahn, of the United States, was disqualified. In the semis, Elliot recorded a "win by superiority" over American Woodvensly Lloyd. But in the final, he was on the wrong side of a "win by superiority", another American, Blaise Carrillo claiming the gold.

With no other entrants in the female 8-9 yellow belt middleweight division, nine-year-old Lexi Browne, the niece of gold medallist Trevor Browne, was forced to tackle a ten-year-old American heavyweight. The American won the fight, and Lexi returned home with silver.

Alexander beat American Ahmed Alsubaihawi 6-4 in the male 18-32 black belt featherweight quarters, but was then edged 5-4 in the semis by another American, Kyeong Kang. In the final, Canadian Brandon Ly got the better of Kang 5-4.

Persaud secured his bronze in the male 12-13 green belt heavyweight division. He lost in the semis to the eventual champion, American Jacob Long.
De higher a monkey climbs is de less his ass is on de line, if he works for FIFA that is! ;-)
