Best Hadad declare himself president for life of the TTFA and formalize the charade. Think about it: what would be the consequence, a normalization committee?

I guess the recently expressed "matter of principle" rationale for not presiding over AE's renewal went down the sewage system as  :bs:

I had a feeling they would do this to sabotage our football.. Create a problem where the incoming TTFA will have an issue to get rid of him and replace him with the right coach

The NC and Fifa strikes again

The ppl on the take in that building masquerade in the national interest.

Right call: Shaka in agreement with Eve extension
T&T Express

FORMER NATIONAL player Shaka Hislop is in agreement with the contract extension awarded to Trinidad and Tobago’s senior men’s football team head coach Angus Eve.

On Thursday, Eve got another contract extension when the Trinidad and Tobago Football Association TTFA as the Normalisation Committee (NC) announced that Eve will be in the job until at least December 31, 2025.

Eve’s latest extension means that he will continue to lead the Soca Warriors when they begin their qualification campaign for the 2026 FIFA World Cup in June and throughout the 2024/2025 CONCACAF Nations League tournament.

For Hislop, that decision was a common sense one. “It sets the stage for what is needed for a campaign in terms of the qualification for World Cup 2026,” Hislop said on the i95.5 Sports programme on I95.5FM.

“It makes a lot of sense, given how thick and fast the games are coming. I am not sure there is any sort of opportunity for any change over, if a change over was deemed necessary. So purely from a continuity perspective, it makes a lot of sense.”

Hislop added that it also made sense from a financial perspective. While he admitted to not knowing intimately the financial status of the TTFA, he inferred from media reports that the TTFA would be better served by not being burdened by having to pay a massive salary to staff.

Asked about his thoughts on T&T football, Hislop said he has distanced himself from the political aspect of the local game, adding that the need for the return of the administration of the game to elected officials is important for accountability.

“I don’t have many thoughts on T&T football and the reason being I don’t feel we can advance; I don’t feel with the NC, that is in charge of T&T football, there is any sense of accountability,” said Hislop.

“No one can say if they are doing a good or bad job. They are in place, in power because of a FIFA mandate. That is the only body that they have to account to.

“So we have a football leadership that doesn’t have to account to the stakeholders of T&T football, to the fans of T&T football. So our failing or our success, relative as they may be, are irrelevant until they have somebody to account to.”

Hislop added the upcoming TTFA elections were necessary for order to be restored in the running of the local game.

“It is a step in the right direction in terms of regaining that sort of normalcy and who we are—in charge of our own affairs...It is important that we at least get back to that starting point. Otherwise, I just felt that we weren’t going anywhere,” added Hislop.

“(The new members of the executive)...have to appease the fans, the greater good of T&T football. Now your primary responsibility cannot be to those men who hold the greatest power in world football and so, again, the longer lasting impact, the stagnation of our football...we can only guess at.

“My belief is everybody that comes in will have to recognise who their primary responsibility is (to). It is no one on these shores.”

Soca Warriors' head coach Angus Eve sacked
By Jonathan Ramnanansingh (T&T Newsday)

AFTER almost three years as head coach of T&T senior men’s football team, and just over three months since the T&T Football Association (TTFA) elected a new president, Angus Eve has been sacked.

The surprise announcement was confirmed in a TTFA statement on July 31 which thanked Eve “for his dedication, hard work and contributions to our football programme” and said “his commitment and passion for the game have been greatly appreciated”.

The statement did not give a reason why the association and Eve parted ways.

Contacted for a comment on his removal, Eve said he was not yet ready to say anything since he had to “let things mellow in my mind first”.

Moving forward, the TTFA will commence the search for a new head coach who can lead our national team to greater heights, the statement added.

“Our focus is firmly set on the 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign. We recognise the importance of having a clear pathway for qualification, which requires the full support of the government, private sector and citizens,” it read.

For the 2026 Concacaf World Cup qualifying campaign, which kicked off in March with Eve at the helm, T&T drew 2-2 against Grenada and drubbed the Bahamas 7-1.

They resume their World Cup qualification route on June 6, 2025, against St Kitts and Nevis and then Costa Rica on June 10.

The statement continued, “The TTFA is dedicated to fostering a strong and vibrant football culture in T&T. We are committed to enhancing our football infrastructure, developing youth programs, and ensuring competitive performance at all levels.

Achieving our goals will require a total buy-in from corporate entities, government bodies and the general public.”

Despite Eve’s unexpected removal, the TTFA said it reaffirms its “commitment to the overall development of football in our nation and will continue to work diligently towards creating opportunities and providing the necessary resources for our players, coaches, and supporters.”

UPDATE

THE Trinidad and Tobago Football Association (TTFA) executive wants a “different pathway” for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualification.

This was the main reason given by association president Kieron Edwards on the sacking of senior men’s football team head coach Angus Eve, who served almost three years at the helm.

The surprise announcement on Eve’s removal was confirmed in a TTFA statement on July 31 which thanked him “for his dedication, hard work and contributions to our football programme” and said “his commitment and passion for the game have been greatly appreciated”.

The statement did not give a reason why the association and Eve parted ways but Edwards, when contacted by Newsday, shared some insight on this unexpected turn of events.

“We’re looking for a different pathway for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualification. He (Eve) would have given us something (Eve’s pathway) in terms of the intentions for the campaign. The executive would have reviewed it and the executive is looking at going in a different direction to ensure we qualify for the World Cup,” Edwards said.

He said the executive started discussions about one month ago and the decision was finalised to axe Eve, two weeks ago. Eve was told of his removal on July 31 in a meeting with Edwards, who also serves as TTFA technical committee chairman.

Contacted for a comment on his sudden exit, Eve said he was not yet ready to say anything since he had to “let things mellow in my mind first”.

Edwards hailed Eve as a “great coach” with a “winning record”, a “big brother” and someone he holds in “high regard.”

However, he believes the executives’ intentions and expectations regarding the nation’s World Cup qualifying campaign were not in sync.

“We chose to go down a pathway where we need to have a head coach of the national team with a different style of coaching, for this period. It wasn’t a decision that was easy for me but it was a collective decision and I respect that,” he added.

Moving forward, the TTFA will commence the search for a new head coach who can lead the national team to greater heights, the statement added.

“Our focus is firmly set on the 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign. We recognise the importance of having a clear pathway for qualification, which requires the full support of the government, private sector and citizens,” it read.

In this regard, Edwards said the process to appoint a new head coach will begin soon. He did not say if there was anyone in particular on their radar to replace Eve.

T&T’s next major match kicks off on September 6 away to Honduras in the Concacaf Nations League, and against French Guiana four days later.

He continued, “The search (replacement) will operate in any manner of a head coach. We will send out a request for persons to send interests in the job. Then we will review those persons, do interviews and select a coach. We have the criteria of what we’re looking for, and it’s just to find the right person to fit that bill, once we can afford it.”

With the Nations League just over a month away, Edwards said they will engage several people over the coming days, to announce who would be the caretaker of the team until a new head coach is appointed.

When that happens, he said, only then would TTFA send out a request inviting interested candidates to sign up for the position.

However, Edwards hopes Eve can still serve T&T’s football development in another role.

“He did a good job, especially in the turmoil that the TTFA and men’s senior team were in for some time. He came in and steadied the ship a bit and had us moving in the right direction. Those things cannot be taken for granted and we would have discussions with having him playing a role, if not in the near future, but to have a role somewhere within the progression of T&T football.”

Eve still has one more year on his contract and his competitive record from 23 internationals is 11 wins, five draws and seven losses. Under his watch, T&T scored 45 goals and conceded 36.

The TTFA statement added, “The TTFA is dedicated to fostering a strong and vibrant football culture in T&T. We are committed to enhancing our football infrastructure, developing youth programs, and ensuring competitive performance at all levels. Achieving our goals will require a total buy-in from corporate entities, government bodies and the general public.”

Despite Eve’s unexpected removal, the TTFA said it reaffirms its commitment to the overall development of football in T&T and will continue to work diligently towards creating opportunities and providing the necessary resources for players, coaches, and supporters.

It was best...........I agreed with Eve on playing solid defensive system......the problem is it was never solid and there was never a clear idea for winning and using the ball once won, Eve's trending towards cowardly self interest didn't help either

Well said Lefty. Cowardly. Instilled disbelief in the players by hyping up opposition's players. KRAZY.
ALWAYS protected himself and his own self-interest. Threw the team under the bus in the process.
Tactics???

Well let's hope the choice of his replacement reflects that T&T believes they deserve a competent coach. If the Administration still sees T&T as a lil Caribbean side, then why bother?

It looks as if there's about a 35/65 split on Eve. 35% of people felt that he should have been kept on. I think the percentage would be lower on here.

Overall he did bring us out of the gutter. He resurrected the national team and brought in a few new faces. I remember where the national team was before the Gold cup 21 qualifications. If you told me that we'd come within a game of Copa 2024 with that team, coach and administration, I would have laughed.

In the end, a man still lost his job. We need to throw some support for Eve. Yes, his tactics were questionable. But he did a lot with what was at his disposal.
