Did you know?Veronica Campbell-Brown is now the joint third on the all-time female medal winners at the World Championships. The 200m champion collected her ninth medal when she anchored Jamaica to a runner-up spot behind the USA in the 4x100m relay finals at this year's World Championships in Daegu, South Korea in September. Campbell-Brown’s collection: 2 gold, 7 silver puts her behind Jamaican great Merlene Ottey(14), Allyson Felix (USA) on 10 and ties with Jearl Miles (USA) 9. Felix arrived in Daegu on six medals (all gold) and was going for four more but was denied in the women’s 400m (2nd place) and failed to captured her fourth straight 200 title after ended up third behind VCB and 100m champion Carmelita Jeter. Felix, however, returned to help the US to victories in the women’s 4x100m and 4x400m relays to tally 8 gold, one silver and one bronze.
Did you know?Kirani James(GRN) is the youngest ever winner of the men's 400m title at 18 years 363 years. He replaces Jeremy Wariner (USA) who was 21 years 193 days when he took the 2005 title. James is now the third youngest male World champion. Only Kenyans 5000m champions Ismael Kirui (18 years 277 days in 1993) and Eliud Kipchoge (18 years 299 days in 2003) are younger title holders than the Grenadian. James also uniquely holds the World Youth, Junior and Senior one lap titles.
Did you know?Kim Collins (SKN) joins Jamaican Danny Mc Farlane with most appearances (9) along with Canadian Tim Berrett and Spaniard Jesus Angel Garcia. Collins also competed in the men’s 100m for a record ninth time. The 2003 World Champion made his debut in the 1995 edition and is among three sprinters who have won three medals in the event. The 35 year old collected bronze in Daegu to join triple champions and former world record holders Carl Lewis and Maurice Greene, both of the USA. Collins also became the oldest medalist with his third place finish in the South Korean capital eclipsing the previous age of 33 years by Linford Christe (GBR) who was 33 years when he won the 1993 World title.
