Vidic out for the season
By: ESPNsoccernet staff

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has confirmed that captain Nemanja Vidic will be sidelined for the rest of the season with a knee injury.

Vidic ruptured his cruciate ligament during Wednesday's 2-1 Champions League defeat to Basel, a result that saw the Red Devils knocked out of the competition at the group stage for the first time in six years.

The former Serbia defender was carried off the St. Jakob-Park pitch on a stretcher after colliding with Marco Streller during the first-half and appeared to be in agony as he signalled to the bench that he needed to be immediately substituted.

Vidic later left the stadium on crutches and United boss Ferguson announced at his pre-match press conference on Friday that the defender will not play again this term.

"We thought it was a bad one," Ferguson said. "He's out for the season. It's not unexpected but it's still bad news. He'll see a specialist on Monday to work out the progress of when he has the operation. It won't be immediate as we have to let the swelling come down."

Ferguson is likely to call on Phil Jones to play in Vidic's stead alongside Rio Ferdinand for Wolves' visit to Old Trafford this weekend, with Jonny Evans and Chris Smalling also able to fill in at centre-back.

Should Nemanja Vidic face for a lengthy lay-off it will be a major blow for Manchester United
Vidic, 30, suffered the injury during United's 2-1 Champions League defeat to Basel on Wednesday, a result that saw the Red Devils knocked out of the competition at the group stage for the first time in six years.

The Serbia defender was carried off the St. Jakob-Park pitch on a stretcher after colliding with Marco Streller during the first-half and appeared to be in agony as he signalled to the bench that he needed to be immediately substituted.

Vidic later left the stadium on crutches and United boss Sir Alex Ferguson admitted after the game that the injury "looked a bad one at the time".

Now it seems Ferguson may have to do without his captain for a number of months, after Martino claimed Vidic's problem is very serious.

"Unfortunately he has suffered a ruptured cruciate ligament," Martina told Italian football website calciomercato.com.

Asked if his client would be out for several months, Martino replied: "Unfortunately so, yes."

A long-term absence for Vidic would be a nightmare scenario for United, who have conceded just three goals when he has played this season - compared to 19 goals in 14 games without him.

Ferguson is likely to call on Phil Jones to play in Vidic's stead alongside Rio Ferdinand for Wolves' visit to Old Trafford this weekend, with Jonny Evans and Chris Smalling also able to fill in at centre-back.

Romeu targets extended run

Blues youngster welcomes Villas-Boas' trust

Sky Bet are offering all new customers a £10 Completely Free Bet .Claim your free bet now ....Oriol Romeu is relishing his time in the Chelsea spotlight and hopes he can convince Andre Villas-Boas that he is deserving of a regular role.

The 20-year-old summer signing from Barcelona has been eased into the Stamford Bridge fold, with it important for him to acclimatise himself with his new surroundings before being thrown in at the deep end.

Villas-Boas has turned to the youngster in recent outings, though, with Chelsea forced to try a different approach after enduring an alarming dip in form.

Romeu has responded with assured performances that belie his age and inexperience, with the Spaniard immediately looking at home at the heart of the Blues' midfield.

He admits turning out in UEFA Champions League games such as Tuesday's crunch clash with Valencia and Monday's impending encounter with Premier League leaders Manchester City have assured him that he made the right choice in moving to London.

"I came because there was more chance of playing and to be playing in games of this magnitude, against Valencia and against Manchester City, is a marvel," Romeu said in the Daily Express.

Remote Record.."I love playing generally, but it is even more enjoyable when it is in important games.

"I really like the style here. I liked watching it on TV before and I like it even more now, playing in it. It is a different kind of football - more physical, with more contact and quicker."

Evolution
Romeu is desperate to retain his starting berth for a meeting with City, after starting Chelsea's last two Premier League games, but concedes that competition for places at Stamford Bridge is fierce.

"I don't feel I'm an automatic choice in my position no, not at all," he said.

"There are three, four or five players who can play there. The only thing all of us can do is maintain our level if we want to play. It is a continual evolution and all of us can play at this point in time.

"The City game is a great chance to show everyone what we can do when we are playing well, against the league leaders.

"If we win, it will prove that we are still fighting for the league."

Suarez charged over Fulham gesture
By: ESPNsoccernet staff

Luis Suarez has been charged by the FA over an alleged gesture he made to supporters after Liverpool's 1-0 defeat at Fulham on Monday.

Liverpool have also been charged with failing to control their players in the aftermath of Jay Spearing's dismissal at Craven Cottage.

Photos in British newspapers appeared to show Suarez aiming a middle-fingered salute at home fans after his side had slumped to their third defeat of the Premier League season.

Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish was reluctant to take a stance on the incident until having seen proof of the alleged gesture, although he intimated he could act if Suarez is found guilty.

He said: "I haven't seen the picture and I'm not taking anybody's word for it. If you show me the picture and I'm convinced that what you're saying is true, then I've got a decision to make. But until you have proved it is true to me, I won't comment."

Several Liverpool players surrounded referee Kevin Friend after he deemed Spearing's tackle on Moussa Dembele to be worthy of a red card. The club have until 1600 GMT on December 12 to respond to the charges.

A statement on the FA's website read: "Liverpool Football Club have been charged by the FA with failing to ensure its players conducted themselves in an orderly fashion, following the dismissal of Jay Spearing.

"The charge is in relation to Liverpool's Premier League fixture at Fulham on 5 December 2011. Luis Suarez has also been charged following an incident in the same game. The Liverpool player is charged with improper conduct, in relation to an alleged gesture made towards the Fulham fans at the end of the fixture."

I hate the whole "manager speak", oh he aint see the picture. You wanna tell me somebody aint whisper in his ear that yo he really do it. Bollocks!
But on the fantasy note, it will have Suarez owners nervous about any suspensions and stuff.
It's only kinky the 1st time

Team news

ShareHarry Redknapp has a few injury concerns ahead of Sunday’s trip to Stoke.

The manager reports that striker Jermain Defoe has a slight hamstring problem, defender Ledley King is trying to recover from the knee injury sustained in training last Friday and Gareth Bale picked up a slight knock against Bolton last weekend.

“We’ve one or two knocks,” said Harry. “Jermain has had a bit of a hamstring this week, Ledley took a bang on the knee in training last week and Gareth has had a problem this week. We’ll wait and see how they are.”

Better news sees Niko Kranjcar ready to return to full training after a thigh injury sustained on international duty with Croatia in October.

Harry also reports that Michael Dawson is ‘coming back slowly but surely’ from his Achilles injury. Tom Huddlestone also remains out.

Week 16 News

Captain's Back
Fulhamfc.com

Share Martin Jol delivered the latest team news on Friday afternoon and revealed that captain Danny Murphy is fit and available for Saturday’s Barclays Premier League encounter with Bolton Wanderers at Craven Cottage.

“Danny Murphy is back which is good,” said Jol. “He’s 100% fit.

“Zdenek Grygera, Mark Schwarzer, Simon Davies and Steve Sidwell are unavailable. Hopefully Steve Sidwell will be able to join us back in training next week.

“Simon is out this weekend because he has a little back problem. Last week he played for the first time in four or five months. I have to be careful with him.

"Today he was training and involved but he had to drop out because of a back problem. I don’t expect him to be out for long.”

Leighton Baines Disciplinary Update
fantasyfootballscout.co.uk

Following on from our earlier tweet regarding Leighton Baines’ yellow card situation, we bring you a quick update:
The FA have in the last few minutes confirmed to us that Baines’ disciplinary record shows 3 bookings this season; vs Chelsea Oct 15, vs Norwich Nov 5 and Wolves Nov 19.

The FA have confirmed that these are his only bookings this season and therefore he is two yellow cards away from a ban, not one as stated by Everton’s recent team news article on their official website.

Our suspension tightrope and Members Player Discipline table is therefore also correct.

Good news, then, ahead of tomorrow’s home clash with Norwich and reassuring for the 6% of Fantasy managers currently holding the left-back with a home clash against Swansea also to follow on Wednesday.

African Cup of Nations Reminder
fantasyfootballscout.co.uk

There’s no doubt that the upcoming African Cup of Nations looks a little easier to plan for Fantasy managers this time round. The qualifying campaign was filled with shocks aplenty- Egypt, winners of the last three tournaments, were omitted, as were the likes of Cameroon and Nigeria, sparing several key Fantasy assets from leaving these shores over the winter period.
The tournament is due to kick off on January 21st but FIFA rules means that the participants can call up their players fourteen days prior to the opening match. Given that the final is not until February 12th, this potentially means players could be absent from domestic duties from gameweek 21 to gameweek 25 inclusive.

Group Stages- 21st January to 1st February
Quarter Finals- 4-5 February
Semi Finals- 8th February
Third Place Play-off, Final- 11-12 February

Jamie O’Hara and Dave Edwards have been ruled out for Wolves’ crucial home clash against Stoke with calf and groin injuries respectively. Elsewhere, it’s been a day without major incident…

Everton look likely to welcome back Royston Drenthe and Jack Rodwell. Bobby Zamora has picked up a knock for Fulham, who welcome back skipper Danny Murphy. Cheick Tiote has a slim chance of returning for Newcastle, who are still sweating on the availability of captain Fabricio Coloccini. Dimitar Berbatov is in contention for Manchester United as Fergie’s side travel to QPR.

Suarez decision delayed (December 16, 2011)
By ESPNsoccernet staff

The FA have announced a decision in the case between Liverpool's Luis Suarez and Manchester United's Patrice Evra will not be made before Tuesday December 20th at the earliest.

Suarez, 24, was charged by the Football Association with abusing Evra and referring to his "ethnic origin and/or colour and/or race'', and has faced two days of disciplinary hearing, with a verdict now expected.

The complaint was made after the 1-1 draw between the sides at Anfield on October 15, but formal proceedings in front of an independent three-man panel only started on Wednesday. More aspects of the case were discussed on Thursday.

Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish and the club have been fully supportive of their player. Indeed, Dalglish did not waver when asked about the case at his pre-match press conference ahead of Sunday's Premier League match at Aston Villa.

"We are standing right beside him and helping him as much as we possibly can,'' said the Scot. "We have said many times before we cannot say anything which will be prejudicial.

"After it's finished there is a chance to have a conversation. As I said last week the FA should have given you (the media) the information when everything was happening, not us.''

If Suarez, who has always denied the allegations, is found guilty he could be banned or fined, or both.

Suarez given eight-match ban

Suarez given eight-match ban
Striker found guilty of racially abusing Manchester United's Patrice Evra

Suarez has been a key player for Liverpool so far this season
Liverpool striker Luis Suarez has been banned for eight matches and fined £40,000 by the Football Association after being found guilty of racially abusing Manchester United's Patrice Evra.
Uruguay international Suarez had an altercation with French defender Evra in the match between the two teams on October 15th.
Following an investigation, an independent regulatory commission announced on Tuesday that Evra's allegations against Suarez were proven.
Suarez has 14 days to appeal against the decision and if he does the penalty will be suspended until after the outcome.
In a statement on Tuesday, Liverpool said they reserved their right to appeal.
The club added: "[Liverpool] takes extremely seriously the fight against all forms of discrimination and has a long and successful track record in work relating to anti-racist activity and social inclusion.
"We remain committed to this ideal and equality for all, irrespective of a person's background."
