Jones is going nowhere, insists City boss Pulis
The Sentinel

STOKE striker Kenwyne Jones has been told he's staying put at the club.

The one-time record signing has been linked with moves to Wolves and QPR during next month's transfer window.

But the 27 year-old Trinidadian, who went four months without a Premier League start until replacing the indisposed Peter Crouch last week, is wanted by manager Tony Pulis for a hefty fixture list ahead.

Asked if other clubs might fancy taking a punt on the £8m striker, Pulis retorted: "All the best if they think that."

He continued: "We are in the FA Cup, still in Europe and fighting for our Premier League status. There's lots on."

Pulis said any January sales at Stoke would involve those players beyond the fringes – the likes of Michael Tonge and Tom Soares – who are desperate for match action.

"We want to keep all our top players," Pulis explained. "The ones we are talking about selling are the ones just below that group.

"They have been banging on my door and we will do our damndest to help them."

Pulis will also listen to offers for the likes of Danny Collins following his return from a four-month loan spell at Ipswich, while Danny Pugh should complete a permanent switch to Leeds when the window re-opens.

Crouch, remains an uncertain starter against Wigan tomorrow (3pm) after missing Stoke's last two fixtures with what the club says is a virus.

Pulis played down suggestions the former England striker was tested for meningitis when he was taken to hospital last week complaining of headaches.

"It's just a virus," said Pulis. "It's 'Northern' virus! I haven't got a clue what he was tested for. I just let the medical department get on with that."

Pulis revealed Robert Huth was another possible doubt tomorrow with a knock, but appeared to suggest it was nothing too serious by stating: "I think it's his calf, or his back, or his hamstring."

But Glenn Whelan remains a major doubt with the calf injury which sidelined him for the defeat at Manchester City and the draw at home to Aston Villa on Boxing Day.

The Conquering Lion of Judah shall break every chain.

Flipping matches today watched a bit of the Stoke match 2nd half.

Pulis is a bit of a character and does have favourites and dislikes, he brought back Crouch today straight from illness and put on Jerome before Kenwyne he made the penalty and scored the other, brought KJ on for the last minute of extra time.  Having watched how Pulis works I wouldn't hold my breath for Kenwyne getting any time on the pitch unless Stoke have some injuries, alls not well there.

Saudis chase Stoke star Jones
By Alan Nixon (mirrorfootball.co.uk)

Stoke striker Kenwyne Jones is a shock £5million target for super-rich Saudi side Al Hilal.

The Riyadh outfit want Jones as a replacement for their top star Yousel Al-Arabi, who is on his way out of the club.

Jones joined the Potters from Sunderland 18 months ago for around £8m, but has been squeezed out of the side by summer signing Peter Crouch - although boss Tony Pulis is in no rush to lose him.

Al Hilal have made an official approach for Jones, and Stoke want to get their money back at least as the move has taken them by surprise and they have no obvious replacement lined up.

Jones signed a long-term contract at the Britannia, but the move could interest him as the salary in Saudi would be tax free.
The Conquering Lion of Judah shall break every chain.

There is hardly any surprise that KJ is heading on a downward trend, where next Vietnam or could it be thr TT Pro League,we'll just have to wait and see.I suppose all is not lost yet for there may still be clubs in the Championship and he may be just good enough for that but he was not a EPL material, even in TT colours he was ordinary to say the least, take what you can get coz it may not last.

Jones is still a EPL quality striker.

He has a role to play and thats what they pay him for...give him a ball to butt and he will score.

They must sweat crouch...they just buy him...same way fuller had to sit down when jones came.

Is real men does bench...defoe, carroll, chicarito, berbatov, drogba, torres, kuyt...all good players. He ent have to dig no horrors. He dey already and pay coming in...is only appearance and scoring bonus he missing out on.

If you go mid east, your premiership days done.
NO BPL team takingback recycled players from there.
Football wise, thats about 3 steps backward.
THis will affect your form long term.

Jones hadda fight for he life at Stoke. Man right when they say Crouch hadda play as they just buy him. Thruth be told, Crouch is a class player, better than KJ.

He jus hadda show up every day at training and give 100%, hope for a break and keep at it.
If he does this, his BPL career will last longer.

I still feel he has more to offer, he just hadda keep at it.
Leave the mid east for later in his career.

Pulis doesn't really work like that.  Last year it was Tuncay decent player never played.

Stoke had another 6ft 8in striker on trial last week or week before, so obviously somethings not right, playing Jerome in front of him.

Few rumours kicking about this or that club interested over the past couple of weeks, stories like this are usually either promoted by agents for players that want a move, or by clubs that want to move players on.

I know he's split from his wife who still lives in the North East, but would he really want to go to the middle east away from his family?

The paper he can make in the middle east will probably dwarf his current salary, and that is saying something.

KJ already played significant top flight ball, so cyah fault d man for looking after the finances from here on out.

Fulham eye Stoke’s Kenwyne Jones in £4m deal

Fulham eye Stoke’s Kenwyne Jones in £4m deal
By David Jones (squeakybumtime.com)

Fulham are looking to strengthen their attack with the signing of Stoke’s giant hitman Kenwyne Jones.

With Andrew Johnson on the verge of a move to Blackburn, Cottagers’ boss Martin Jol is keen to add to his strikeforce and sees the Trinidadian as the perfect acquisition to a squad who have scored just seven goals away from home in the Premier League this season – the lowest in the division.

The 27-year-old has vast experience in England following previous spells at Southampton, Sheffield Wednesday and Sunderland, but Jol is ready to end the forward’s run of clubs beginning with S by taking him to the banks of the Thames for around £4m.

Jones has fallen behind Peter Crouch and Jonathan Walters in the Stoke pecking order and has started only five of the club’s 21 Premier League games this season. With Cameron Jerome and Ricardo Fuller available as backup, his boss Tony Pulis is willing to sanction a deal for the right price.

The striker was a target of Jol’s as soon as the Dutchman took up the Fulham hotseat in the summer, and the Dutchman has now been pressed into acting on his interest following speculation that the likes of QPR, Aston Villa, former club Sunderland and Saudi side Al-Hilal were sniffing around the disaffected forward.

Jones would add height and power to a Fulham side who are slowly evolving under Jol, with the manager visualising the Trinidadian spearheading an attack which includes the lively Moussa Dembele and Bryan Ruiz.

The Trinidadian is known to be willing to try life in London for the first time in his career, and the offer of more first-team football could see him switch to Craven Cottage this month.
The Conquering Lion of Judah shall break every chain.

Thats true, but Gyan will still be viewed as damaged goods by some teams, but he is a good player and will come back on the radar of clubs with his performances for Ghana.

Fulham would be good for him, I like Jol think he is a good coach who will actually work with Kenwyne the question would be will he take any notice and can he put that extra into his game.  It wouldn't be signing for Stoke who bought him for what he is.  Its ironic he is the kind of forward MON loves and like Jol would work on him to improve his game.

The paper he can make in the middle east will probably dwarf his current salary, and that is saying something.

KJ already played significant top flight ball, so cyah fault d man for looking after the finances from here on out.

If he has been sensible and is sensible he really shouldn't need the money, at his age he should really be looking at football, plenty time at 30 ish to go to Middle East or China for the ££££££'s

Coates dismisses £5m Saudi approach for Kenwyne Jones
« Reply #27 on: January 19, 2012, 06:22:36 AM »
Coates dismisses £5m Saudi approach for Kenwyne Jones
The Sentinel

STOKE chairman Peter Coates says the club is not looking to sell Kenwyne Jones, and has denied reports of a £5m offer for the striker from Saudi Arabia.

Former Asian club champions Al Hilal were reported to have made an official approach for 27-year-old Jones.

Stoke signed Jones, main picture, from Sunderland for £8m 17 months ago, but he has failed to command a regular starting place this season.

The Trinidad and Tobago international has only started two Premier League games since the arrival of £10m club-record signing Peter Crouch on August 31.

However, he remains a regular in other competitions having started 10 games in the Europa League and FA and Carling cups.

Staffordshire rivals Wolves are also being linked with the striker, but Tony Pulis would be reluctant to lose a player who has provided strength in depth for a squad trying to compete at home and abroad.

Coates says the club have not been approached about Jones.

He said: "You always get speculation at this time of year. Kenwyne Jones is a good player who hasn't been playing in every game, so I expect people are taking it from there.

"But he's a very good player and we want to keep our good players."

Jones, who has two-and-a-half years left on his contract, was City's joint-top scorer with Jon Walters on 12 goals last season, and has scored four this term.

Should Al Hilal press ahead with a formal bid, they could also offer Jones a tax-free salary.

The club is based in the capital of Riyadh and plays in the 67,000 capacity King Fahd International Stadium, which is also used by the Saudi Arabia national side.

Past players include former Manchester United winger Andrei Kanchelskis and legendary Brazilian 1970 World Cup-winner Rivelino.

Meanwhile, Coates, pictured below, left, is optimistic Stoke will hold on to highly-rated winger Ben Marshall, who is out of contract at the end of the season.

City are hoping to agree a new deal with the 20-year-old, who has impressed during a five-month loan at League One promotion-chasers Sheffield Wednesday.

Coates said: "We are in talks with Ben and have no reason to think he won't sign. We want to keep him because he is a good young player and they are very much our future."

Marshall, who joined Stoke from Crewe two-and-a-half years ago, is back training with City after returning from Hillsborough.

The Owls would like to take him on loan until the end of the season, but Pulis is considering whether to keep him at City to monitor his progress at closer quarters.

Marshall scored twice in City's 7-0 victory over Walsall in a reserve game at the Britannia on Tuesday.

The Conquering Lion of Judah shall break every chain.

Touches, he also missing out on playing.  Dem men not just there to make money.  They love to play football (obviously).  I think sitting on the bench affects them both psychologically and phyiscally... I agree no need to panic, but to say that all he missing out on is his appearance and scoring bonus...I can't agree with that.

4 mill for KJ? Man, his value has dropped. So, Touches, you cant say that all hes missing out on is goals and appearances. Look how much his stock has fallen...and that factors into the future wage he will get and in priority playing time moving forward.
