Trinidad and Tobago quartermiler Deon Lendore chopped 64-hundredths of a second off his 400 metres personal best at the University of Miami Alumni Invite, in Florida, USA, on Saturday.
The 19-year-old Texas A&M University student stopped the clock at 45.56 seconds to earn men's one-lap gold, improving on the 46.20 PR (personal record) he had established last month.
Lendore is now fourth on the 2012 men's 400m world performance list, behind South African double amputee Oscar Pistorius (45.20) and Americans Manteo Mitchell (45.25) and Tavaris Tate (45.45).
Lendore's 45.56 clocking is well inside the 45.90 Olympic B qualifying standard. The A standard is 45.30.
T&T sprinter Keston Bledman seized silver in the Miami Alumni men's 100m dash in 10.12 seconds.
Lendore's Texas A&M teammate Wayne Davis II got to the line in a wind-assisted 13.86 seconds to finish fourth in the men's 110m hurdles. His sister, Auburn University freshman Dannielle Davis, was eighth in the women's 100m hurdles in 14.64. And in the women's 200m, Auburn's Kai Selvon clocked 23.52 to cop eighth spot.
At the Texas Tech Open, Sparkle McKnight struck gold in the women's 400m in a personal best 53.29 seconds. Her South Plains College teammate, Janeil Bellille, got home in 54.75 to finish third.
Baylor University's Zwede Hewitt was fourth in the men's 400m in 46.62 seconds. And Texas Tech University student Dellon Williams produced a wind-assisted 6.89 metres leap to cop ninth spot in the men's long jump.
Annie Alexander secured gold in the invitational women's discus, at the Sea Ray Relays, in Tennessee. The University of Tennessee athlete threw the discus 55.45m. In the shot put, Alexander was second with a 17.29m effort.
Tennessee sprinter Jamol James topped the men's 100m field in a wind-aided 10.24 seconds and finished third in the 200m in 21.39.
In Virginia, Ayanna Alexander jumped 13.90m to claim gold in the Patriot Open Invitational women's triple jump.
Temple University's Kiersten LaRoche picked up bronze in the women's long jump with a 5.67m leap. LaRoche was 16th in the 200m in a windy 25.39 seconds, 20th in the shot put (10.05m) and 22nd in the 100m hurdles (20.76 seconds).
At the KT Woodman Classic, in Kansas, Samantha Shukla won the women's 5,000m in 18 minutes, 01.41 seconds. The Wichita State University student also competed in the 800m, finishing seventh in 2:18.22.
Iowa Central Community College sprinter, Reyare Thomas secured silver in the women's 100m dash in a windy 11.32 seconds.
Wichita State's Scarla Nero was fourth in the women's 1500m in 4:42.09. In the men's 200m, Iowa Central's Dan-Neil Telesford finished fifth in a wind-assisted 21.22 seconds, and Wichita State's Aaron Leung Woo-Gabriel was 27th in a windy 22.38. Woo-Gabriel got to the line in a wind-aided 10.81 to cop 15th spot overall in the men's 100m. And Butler Community College student, Devery Robley was 37th in the men's 800m (2:02.07) and 45th in the 1500m (4:16.60).
At the Arizona State Tri Meet, Louisiana State University (LSU) student, Kyron Blaise won the men's long jump with a windy 7.47m leap. His best legal jump was 7.02m. In the 100m dash, Blaise was fifth in 10.75 seconds.
Hilenn James captured the women's shot put title, at the Spec Towns National Team Invitational, in Georgia. The University of Georgia field athlete threw the iron ball 15.64m.
Alena Brooks bagged bronze in the women's 400m in 54.08 seconds. Her University of Minnesota teammate Nyoka Giles clocked 24.91 to finish 10th in the women's 200m.
At the Seminole Invitational, in Florida, Brittany St Louis earned silver in the women's 400m in 54.55 seconds.
Aleesha Barber got home in 13.59 to pick up silver in the women's 100m hurdles. And in the 100m dash, Barber was fifth in a wind-aided 12.14 seconds.
In Indiana, University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee student, Durell Busby finished second in the Pacesetter Sports Invitational men's 110m hurdles in 14.32 seconds.
At the Mississippi Open, Robert Collingwood was second in the men's shot put with a 17.04m throw. His twin brother and University of Southern Mississippi teammate Richard Collingwood threw 16.02m to cop fifth spot.
Richard finished second in the discus with a 52.47m effort.
At the Jace Lacoste Invite, in Mississippi, Mississippi State University senior Emanuel Mayers earned silver in the men's 110m hurdles in 14.41 seconds.
In North Dakota, North Dakota State University athlete Deborah John clocked 1:02.67 to finish second in the Bison Invitational women's 400m hurdles.
Carisa Leacock secured women's long jump bronze, at the Tom Botts Invitational, in Missouri. The University of Iowa sophomore jumped 5.57m.
Kirlene Roberts finished sixth in the women's 100m dash, at the Hilltopper Relays, in Kentucky. The Central Michigan University senior got to the line in a windy 12.03 seconds.
At the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) Invitational, UTEP's Aeisha McDavid finished eighth in the women's shot put with a 10.84m throw, ninth in the 200m in a wind-assisted 25.32 seconds, and 12th in the 100m hurdles in a windy 14.33. Abilene Christian University student, Osei Alleyne-Forte was 17th overall in the men's 400m in 52.02 seconds.
In Jamaica, Ayanna Hutchinson copped second spot in the UTech Track & Field Classic women's 100m dash in 11.72 seconds. Another T&T sprinter, Lisa Wickham, clocked 12.10 to finish fifth.
Danny Gualbance got home in 4:07.45 for fourth spot in the men's 1500m. Emmanuel Callender was seventh in the men's 200m in 20.88 seconds. And in the men's 400m, Stann Waithe (47.76) and Justin Maloney (48.06) were 11th and 14th, respectively. Jamil James was a non-finisher in the one-lap event.
Reigning 100m world champion Yohan Blake emerged as the star of the meet, the 22-year-old Jamaican winning the men's century in a world-leading 9.90 seconds.
