‘Tigers’ in Copa Coca Cola tourney
T&T Newsday Rerports.

LAST year’s Coca Cola Intercol champions, St Anthony’s College will fly the red, white and black at the forthcoming 2012 Copa Coca- Cola tournament, which kicks off in Colombia on October 18 - 21.

The “Tigers” will represent this country in a tournament against teams from several Central American and Caribbean nations. Travel arrangements for the team have been sponsored by COPA Airlines.

The five-day trip will afford the young men a chance to play with some of the most outstanding players of the region.

The 2011 champions will fly to Bogota, Colombia, for the Copa Coca-Cola on October 18 and return on October 22, having completed the tournament. Copa Coca-Cola originated in Mexico in 1998, and soon spread to invite teams across the Americas, Europe, Africa and Asia. It is used to foster youth interest in the sport, while allowing players to meet and interact with peers from other parts of the globe.

Modelled closely after the professional sport, the matches are players according to FIFA regulations and on official sized fields.

It is well known that scouts from professional teams often attend the games to observe the young talent. Since its inception, the Copa Coca-Cola has touched the lives of more than 600,000 students, including an increasing number of girls. Participation is always free to the teams.

Roberto Lapeira, Brand Franchise Manager at the Coca-Cola Company boasted of the company’s commitment to the world’s game, “The Coca-Cola Company has always been a proud supporter of football all over the world. Football seems to run in the veins of each ‘Tiger’ so we have high hopes for them.

The young men are very excited to be a part of the tournament and we wish them the best of luck in the 2012 Copa Coca-Cola.” For more information on the Copa Coca-Cola, please visit www.thecoca-colacompany.com/ourcompany/pdf/copa.pdf.

Love it. This is precisely the age group I wish to see receive exposure in a form other than through the age group national teams.

This is a great experience for the youngsters. Coca-Cola plough millions into football across the world, but I find in T&T they don't really support the game. They give plenty of product, which is valuable, but money is also needed, particularly for coaching schools etc. I'd be interested to know if Coca-Cola TT are actually paying for St Anthonys to attend, in which case, respect to them.

So wait.

They gone.....and should be on the verge of coming back....

No idea how it went?
The greatest single cause of atheism in the world today are Christians who acknowledge Jesus ;with their lips and walk out the door and deny Him by their lifestyle. That is what an unbelieving world simply finds unbelievable.

They lost the opening game 1-0 to the Dominican team. The Dominican team prepped by playing 20 competitive games. The second game was against an experienced Honduran squad. I can't verify the result.

The goal came from a free kick with roughly 5 minutes left to play. My understanding is that this is the first time DR has been victorious in this competition, but I'm unsure how many prior participations they have had.

If they are, it would be in a supplementary capacity to Copa, the airline ... according to the article. But, in Venezuela Coke paid for travel entirely and paid for uniforms.

Looks like today produced more favourable outcomes:

TT  2 v. Honduras 2
TT 2 Dominican Republic 1

Honduras won the tournament ... something like 5-1 over Guatemala.

Maybe someone who is affiliated with the team could explain the tournament format? And, confirm the results.

Tigers finish third in Copa Coca Cola
T&T Newsday

THE “WESTMOORINGS Tigers” St Anthony’s finished third at the Copa Coca Cola, which took place recently in Bogota, Colombia.

According to a media release, “the young team represented Trinidad and Tobago well amongst other teams from Honduras, Guatemala and the Dominican Republic. They made their mark in Bogota and, in doing so, earned themselves a world-class experience.”

St Anthony’s were abroad from October 18-22 and the trip afforded the teenagers “a chance to play with some of the most outstanding high schools from the Caribbean and Central America.”

The TT players shared their culture with their peers, attended an international fair, visited a local site Salitre Magico and dined at the world-famous restaurant Andres DC.

Coca Cola’s franchise brand manager Roberto Lapeira commented, “Coca Cola is very proud of the Tigers. They played some of the best football in the entire tournament.

“Their drive and passion for the game makes them a team to be reckoned with,” he added.

“We are very happy with the tournament this year and look forward to further developing active, healthy lifestyles among Trinidad and Tobago’s youth and we would like to reassure our commitment to the Secondary Schools Football League by continuing our efforts with the Coca Cola Intercol and Copa Coca Cola.”
