I expected KAB to compete well with Jeter and she did, but forgot about the sniper that is SAFP.  First time this season she has put her entire race together and she WOWS  the crowd.

Major boost to Bledman's confidence. That 9.89 and 9.85 are certainly real. Gave Blake a scare.

Thompson ran okay. Still alot of work to do.

Watching the race KAB seemed to have that bounce in her stride which plagued her during the 2009-2010 seasons. Hope she can back to the much more flowing technique but great run by SAFP.

Well albeit his best performance of the year, it was not exactly newsworthy. However he was mentioned when they were going through the line-ups, but not in the most pleasant way.

Bledman clocks 9.93
…2nd to world champion Blake in adidas 100m

By Kwame Laurence kwame.laurence@trinidadexpress.com

Keston Bledman dived under 10 seconds for the third time in as many meets, the Trinidad and Tobago sprinter clocking 9.93 seconds to finish second in the men's 100 metres dash, at the adidas Grand Prix Samsung Diamond League meet, in New York, USA, yesterday.

Reigning world champion Yohan Blake secured gold in 9.90, while bronze went to American Mike Rodgers (9.99). Another T&T athlete, Richard "Torpedo" Thompson was fourth in 10.09.

On May 26, at the Golden South Classic, in Florida, Bledman won his qualifying heat in a personal best 9.89 seconds, and then skipped the final. One week later, at the National Training Center (NTC) Last Chance meet, in Florida, the 24-year-old won in a wind-assisted 9.85.

Aaron Armstrong copped fourth spot in yesterday's men's 100m "B" race. Running into a 1.5 metres per second headwind, the T&T sprinter got to the line in 10.46 seconds.

In his first competitive outing in almost a year, American Tyson Gay made a pre-Olympic statement with victory in 10 seconds flat. Kemar Bailey-Cole finished a distant second, while third spot was copped by Jason Young, both Jamaicans clocking 10.30.

T&T quartermiler Renny Quow clocked 46.15 seconds to finish fourth in the men's 400m "B" race. American Jordan Boase topped the field in 45.73, finishing ahead of Jamaica's Ricardo Chambers (45.82) and another American, David Neville (45.99).

T&T's Cleopatra Borel produced an 18.19 metres throw to cop fourth spot in the women's shot put. New Zealand's Valerie Vili dominated her rivals with a big 20.60m effort, almost a full metre better than second-placed Jillian Camarena-Williams (19.62m), of the United States. Another US thrower, Michelle Carter (19.32m) finished third.

T&T sprint star Kelly-Ann Baptiste got home in 11.07 seconds for fifth spot in the women's 100m dash. Jamaican Olympic champion Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce grabbed gold in 10.92, beating Americans Tianna Madison (10.97), Carmelita Jeter (11.05) and Allyson Felix (11.07) into second, third and fourth, respectively.

Must say it's good to see Josanne back in sub 56 shape. Her 100 hurdles is looking strong too- looks like she could make the semi's in that event if she wanted to.

Lucas hits Olympic B 400m Hurdles mark
Published: Saturday, June 16, 2012
Clayton Clarke

World Championships 400m hurdles bronze medallist Josanne Lucas won the women’s 400m hurdles at the Star Athletic Invite at the National Training Centre in Clearmont, Florida, on Saturday.  Lucas crossed the line in 55.92 and got under the Olympic B qualifying standard of 56.65. The national record holder is now one of two national athletes to notch the B standard in the women’s one lap hurdles race. Janiel Bellille clocked 55.91 at the Texas Relays in March earlier this year and 55.80 in 2011. The two are set to clash at this year’s Sagicor Open Championships at the Hasely Crawford Stadium on June 23-24 for a spot on the Olympic team for the London Games. The “A” standard for the event is 55.30.

Lucas has already attained the B standard in the sprint hurdles (13.15) with a 13.10 clocking in Auburn, USA in April. Aleesha Barber was fifth in the finals in 13.18 seconds.

Marc Burns was runner up in the men’s 100m finals in 10.19 with Rondel Sorillo taking the fourth spot (10.28). Former World Championships 100m silver medallist, Derrick Adkins (Bahamas), raced to gold in 10.09. Burns was also the second fastest in the heats in 10.32.

Mickel Thomas was third in the men’s 100m hurdles finals in a Olympic A standard  time of 13.51, just 0.03 seconds off his best time of 13.48 seconds achieved at the Texas Relays. Good luck to JL and JB. I am hoping that both of these girls get the A standard. I thought by now JL would be sub 55. Hopefully, there is enough good competition for JL and JB to get low 55s. It will be great if we are able to send 3 reps in this event... JL, JB and SM.

Caribbean track stars shine in NY
Published: Thursday, June 28, 2012

There was something different in the air at this year’s Adidas Grand Prix Track and Field Meet, held earlier this month at Randall’s Island in New York City. An air of maturity indicated that West Indians were beginning to take responsibility for their own destiny, and seized the opportunity to celebrate the golden anniversary of the achievement of Independence of Jamaica and T&T. The colours that dominated the landscape were red, white and black and black, green and yellow. The display of Caribbean patronage, especially by the Jamaicans, could not be missed, given that country’s proven status as a superpower in the world of track and field via the feats of Usain Bolt, Asafa Powell and Yohan Blake and their predecessors.

Jamaicans, Trinbagonians and other West Indians came to cheer their heroes, who lined up against the best athletes representing the US and other parts of the world. There was pandemonium when Blake sprinted to victory in the men’s 100 metres dash ahead of T&T’s, Keston Bledman, who came in a very close second.

Both of their times were faster than that clocked by Tyson Gay of the USA, who had earlier that day won another one of the men’s 100 metres races. It was no different when Shelly Ann Fraser Pryce of Jamaica triumphed in the women’s category of that event, which included a world class line-up featuring world champions Camelita Jeter and Allison Felix of the US, and Kelly Ann Baptiste of T&T, a bronze medalist at the last world championships. Amid the successes and disappointments on the track, it was not possible to neglect the activities on the field. In the women’s shot put event, Cleopatra Borel of T&T showed that the Caribbean is not only famous for fast runners, but also for world-class field athletes. Borel took fourth place in an event that was won by the reigning world champion from New Zealand. The Caribbean was not to be denied more celebration when Sanya Richards-Ross, Jamaican-born, turned US competitor won the women’s 200 metres event.

Other Caribbean athletes from Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados and the Netherland Antilles also showcased their running, throwing, jumping and leaping skills. In true Caribbean style, the occasion was ripe for partying and a large segment of spectators, who had assembled as early as 11 am stayed back to fete. Dance hall artiste Shaggy started off proceedings and had patrons scanting, dancing and singing in the stands with a number of his chart topping hits. Richie Stephens of Jamaica invited the faithful to sing along with him as he dished out a number of reggae flavored gospel songs.

Without taking away from the spirit of praise, Faye Ann Lyons, daughter of high-priest of soca, Super Blue, came on immediately after Spice and encouraged the audience to “mash up the place.” At one point, the stadium was reminiscent of a Carnival fete in Port-of-Spain. With an entourage which included a disciple bearing a banner with his image emblazoned on it, dance hall star, Shabba Ranks entered the arena to make his contribution to the 50th independence anniversary celebrations. He showed why he is often referred to as the original “rude bwoy.” His lyrics were laced with sexual innuendos and his dance move did not leave much to the imagination.
