Wanted to send a big up to all the participants yesterday. I think the 4oom, 100m men and women managed to live up to expectations.

The big surprise was certainly SORRILLO! Hats off to Sorrillo. He will crack the 10 second barrier really soon. I think this is the first time that we have a shot of beating the USA in the relay. Two sub 10 relay runners along with some very low 10s should give us a really strong chance of beating USA. Gay, Gatlin and Dix will be running today...We will see if any sub 10s are pulled off.

Its amazing how the IAAF pays little attention to the track and field in Trini. Does anyone know why? I find it odd that they are quick to write a story about the UK champs.Especially considering that there was not much happening..No sub 10s or sub 11s. Not even a sub 50 by their number one medal prospect Ohuruogu. In fact, Trinidad is on pace to win more medals than the UK in track. The only medal contenders that the UK really have are Ohruogu, Ennis and maybe the womens 4x400.

Maybe its just me....Or does anyone else think that IAAF is extremely bias towards track in Trinidad.

Congrats to all the participants, win or last , local and foreign. The rythm section was super. Like mentioned before, that sound brought back the old days. Remind of Southern games in Guaracara Park. Especially during the long distance cycling race.

I think things will remain as it is until our NAAA gets it's act together and it’s better this way until they do.

It wouldn't look good to the outside world to see out stadium more than 3/4 empty and events not starting on time etc would it?

Also I am hearing from a source that many athletes were unhappy yesterday because they were not being given their times etc after races even though Olympic qualification is as stake.

Now sure how true it is but here is a thread on Caribbean Track & Field forum on the subject http://disc.yourwebapps.com/discussion.cgi?disc=113916;article=349086;title=Caribbean%20Track%20%26%20Field%20Forum
so there might be something rather unprofessional going on at our National Trials that needs to be remedied as we speak.

Will try to do some research into these accusations myself as we should not be trying to cover up this sort of unprofessionalism at our National Trials if it is indeed happening.

Most definitely!
Until the NAAA gets it's act together no one is going to take our track meets and National Trials too serious and who can really blame them?

New national record for the mens 4x400 (Quow, Gordon, Solomon, Lendore).

3:00:45

This is proof that we have a chance of reaching the podium with this team.

Great run, congrats on the new record, much overdue.

With some rest and renewed preparation all these guys should be able to split 44 low.

TT should be able to run between 2:57 and 3:00 with all cylinders firing.

Keston Bledman is the new national men’s 100m champion taking the title with a personal best clocking of 9.86 at the Sagicor/NGC National Open Track and Field Championships at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, Mucurapo, last  night. Bledman (Simplex) defeated the three-time reigning winner and national recorder Richard Thompson (Rebirth). The 2005 World Youth bronze medallist got revenge on Thompson after losing out in last year’s race when Thompson sped to a new national record of 9.85. Bledman’s time is the second faster ever by a local sprinter equaling Ato’s Boldon’s mark. Rondell Sorillo (La Brea) raced to the line in third in personal best of 10.03 with former winner Marc Burns (Rebirth) fourth (10.06-sb) ahead of Emmanuel Callendar of Memphis (10.12).

Bledman took command of the race in the first 40 metres and pulled away to score a comfortable victory even glancing over Thompson’s side. Nineteen year old Jamol James (Memphis) was fifth in 10.17 (pb) ahead of another former winner Darryl Brown (Rebirth) 10.27. Commonwealth bronze medallist Aaron Armstrong was eighth (10.51). The top five dipped under the Olympic A standard of 10.18. Bledman came into event as the favourite after his 9.89 and 9.93 clocking earlier in the year but Thompson was not to be discounted as he was going for his fourth straight title.

After his blazing national record in 2011 the reigning Olympic silver medallist proved he is one to deliver on the big occasions but Bledman laid down the charge in the semis cruising to the fastest  time of 10.04 to beat Sorillo (10.11) in heat two. Sorillo clocked a then personal best improving his 10.17 set in last year’s finals. Thompson was the third fastest (10.13) in topping heat 3 ahead of James. Callender was first to the line in heat 1 (10.18) with Armstrong (10.21) following him home.  Brown was fifth in the same heat (10.25) got into the top eight as only local runners contested the A finals. Shermund Allsop (Concorde) took the B finals in 10.29, equaling his pb set in the semis. World Championships bronze medallist Kelly Ann Baptiste took her sixth national ladies crown in 10.98 seconds with her Zenith club-mate Semoy Hackett taking second (11.14) for the third time in four years. Kai Selvon (Air Bon Sonics) was third (11.24). Michelle Lee Ahye (Unattached) 11.29 rounded off the top four as all attained the Olympic A standard of 11.29 once again in 2012. In the semis earlier Hackett was the fastest qualifier (11.32) taking heat one with Baptiste next in 11.37 in winning the second heat. Lee-Ahye also clocked 11.37 behind Hackett with Thomas (11.41) and Selvon (11.45).

Lalonde Gordon produced a strong run to take the men’s 400m in 45.40 (Olympic B standard). The Tigers athlete made his move with less than 100m to storm past World Championships bronze medallist Renny Quow (45.60) and Olympic qualifier Deon Lendore (45.74). The US-based athlete was just short of his pb of 45.33 set earlier this year and Olympic A standard of 45.30. Lendore (Abilene Wildcats) had taken the earlier lead pass Quow (Zenith) on his outside with just over 100m into the race but Quow responded at the 200m mark and came into the home stretch ahead.

The two battled for the lead with Quow surging ahead Lendore began to struggle after his early effort. It was then that Gordon surged ahead and snatched the gold. Jarrin Solomon clocked a season’s best of 45.88 to take fourth while 17 year old Machel Cedenio blazed to a pb of 46.04 to take fifth. Ade Alleyne Forte (Southern Athletic) was sixth in 46.13 (pb). The Memphis duo of Jovon Toppin (47.73) and Stan Waithe (47.80) were seventh and eighth respectively. In the semis earlier Quow as second fastest (46.47) in capturing heat five behind Arturio Ramirez (Venezuela) who clocked 46.35 but contested the B finals as the A race was reserved for local runners. Lendore was next fastest (46.48) in landing heat two and Cedenio took heat four in his first pb of the day (46.50).

World Championships bronze medallist Josanne Lucas dipped below the Olympic standard in the women’s 100m hurdles winning in 13.07 (standard-13.15).

The Tobago Falcons athlete improved on her season’s best of 13.10. Aleesha Barber (Rebirth) was second in 13.30. National record holder Wayne Davis 11 took men’s 110m hurdles finals in 13.62 ahead of Durrel Busby (Tobago Jaguars) 13.81 with Mikel Thomas (Rebirth) in third 13.99.  Davis was short of his national mark of 13.37 set earlier this year. Ashlee Smith (D’Abadie Progressive) took the first gold medal day securing the women’s hammer throw finals in the morning session with a throw of 45.48m. Her lone competitor Sandra Greenidge of Eastonians was second (15.14). Sukraj Roodal (Humming Bird) took the men’s title in one man competition with a throw of 14.48m. Olympic triple jump qualifier Ayanna Alexander defended her women’s title with a leap of 14.04,  a championship best and just short of her Olympic B standard mark of 14.15. Carisa Leacock(QRC) was second (12.18). Jeanelle Ovid (QRC) women’s high jump 1.65m, Geraldine George (Petrotrin P/Seco) women’s javelin-40.62, NCAA triple jump bronze medallist Kyron Blaise (Toco TAFAC) men’s long jump -7.63, Akeem Stewart (Tobago Falcons) men’s shot put-16.95, Annie Alexander (Burnley) women’s discus-56.54, Pilar Mc Shine (Unattached) women’s 1500m-4:24.91, Garvin Nero (Memphis) men’s 1500m-3:55.16. The action continues with the men’s 200m prelims in the morning and the semis and finals later in the day. The women’s 200m(semis and finals)as well as the 800m, 400m hurdles and relays events are also on the schedule. The women’s long jump, shot put and men’s javelin and high jump will also be contested.

Mile relay record at National Champs

Renny Quow, Lalonde Gordon, Jarrin Solomon and Deon Lendore combined to break a 20-year-old Trinidad and Tobago record, on day two of the NAAA Sagicor/NGC National Open Track and Field Championships, at the Hasely Crawford Stadium in Port of Spain, late yesterday.

The T&T quartet stopped the clock at three minutes, 00.45 seconds to erase the 3:01.05 men's 4x400 metres standard, established by Patrick Delice, Alvin Daniel, Neil De Silva and Ian Morris way back in 1992.

The 3:00.45 clocking earned T&T a huge victory in the men's mile relay, the final event at the Championships. Venezuela finished a distant second in 3:04.05.

The T&T junior team—Asa Guevara, Brandon Benjamin, Theon Lewis and Machel Cedenio—also impressed, picking up bronze in 3:05.95.

Rondel Sorrillo dominated his rivals in the men's 200m final, holding on to his title with a 20.48 seconds run.

Emmanuel Callender led coming off the turn, but Sorrillo was superb on the straight, surging past the leader and romping to victory. Gordon, the new 400m champion, was also strong on the straight, moving past Callender to claim silver in 20.77. Callender was forced to settle for bronze in 20.90.

After the race, Sorrillo told the Express he expects to run a lot faster at the London Olympics.

"My hope is to be top four. I know I have a lot more in me. It's just to put it out at the right time and run a technically correct race."

Kai Selvon retained her women's 200m title. The 20-year-old sprinter just got the better of Semoy Hackett in a battle royale in front of an appreciative main stand crowd.

Running into a 1.9 metres per second headwind on the straight, Selvon and Hackett tried desperately to gain an advantage on the other. Selvon eventually earned the edge, outleaning Hackett for victory in 22.96 seconds. Hackett clocked 22.98 to seize silver, while bronze went to Reyare Thomas (23.36).

Janeil Bellille beat Josanne Lucas in a thriller to complete a hat-trick of victories in the women's 400m hurdles.

Bellille was in front coming off the final turn. Lucas battled tenaciously on the home straight, but a gutsy Bellille held her off for the win, getting to the line in a Championship record 56.31 seconds. Lucas clocked 56.39 to earn silver, ahead of Barbadian La Toya Griffith (57.27).

In the absence of injured Jehue Gordon, Emanuel Mayers won the men's 400m hurdles in 50.66 seconds.

Melissa De Leon returned a time of two minutes, 07.35 seconds to top the women's 800m field.

Grenadian Neisha Bernard-Thomas led for most of the race, serving as a rabbit in a bid to help De Leon achieve the 2:01.30 Olympic "B" standard. Bernard-Thomas dropped out less than 100 metres from home, clearing the way for a De Leon victory. The T&T half-miler, however, couldn't get close to the Olympic qualifying time.

The men's 800m final was won by Bermuda's Aaron Evans in 1:46.69. T&T's Jamaal James got home in 1:47.25 to cop second spot. And Mark London claimed bronze in 1:50.54, the Carifta Games boys' under-20 champion beating the 1:51.00 World Junior Championship standard.

Men’s mile relay breaks 20 year national mark
Published: Monday, June 25, 2012
Liam Gordon

The 2012 NGC/Sagicor National Open Track and Field Championships ended on a high note as the men’s 4X400m team smashed the national recording clocking 3:00:45 seconds erasing the 20 year old mark of 3:01.05 set at the 1992 Olympics in Barcelona, Spain. The team of Renny Quow, Lalonde Gordon, Jarrin Solomon and Deon Lendore sped around the Hasely Crawford Stadium track ahead of Venezuela (3:04:05) and T&T Juniors (3:05.95). Quow ran the lead off leg and hand over first ahead of the Venezuelan Freddy Mesones and T&T junior Asa Guevera, who lead for the 250m. Gordon, the 400m champion from Saturday, extended the lead with a strong second leg and hand over to Solomon who ensured the team maintained its lead.

Lendore anchored the quartet to the new national mark eclipsing the previous best by Ian Morris, Alvin Daniel, Neil De Silva and Patrick Delice attained in the heats in the Barcelona Games. The national junior team (Guevera, Brandon Benjamin, Theon Lewis and Machel Cedenio) was just short of the 3:05.70 national under 20 time set at the 2005 Pan American Junior in Sao Paulo, Brazil. Speaking after the record run, Quow said the team spoke about getting the record the day before while Gordon added the bronze medal won at this year’s World Indoor Championships in Turkey motivated the runners. Solomon was confident that the team could go much faster at the Olympics Games in London with more competition. In the men’s 4X100m the national squad was on course for victory but dropped the baton on the final exchange. St Kitts/Nevis took the race in 39.06 ahead of Venezuela (39.82) and the National Junior team (Jesse Berkley, Jonathan Holder, Jereem Richards and Ashron Sobers) 40.18.  The men’s team outfit started well as Jamol James passed to Marc Burns who opened up a lead and handed the baton over to Moriba Morain. But on the final exchange Morain failed to make the exchange to Emmanuel Callender.

The women’s team of Shu-Shauna Mason, Reyare Thomas, Ayanna Hutchinson and Magonolia won 4x100m event in 44.63 with Magonalia passing the Grenadian team (44.63) ten metres before the line. The national Youth team was third (46.17).  Rondel Sorillo (La Brea) and Kai Selvon (Air Bon Sonics) retained their national 200m crowns. Sorillo took his fourth half lap title in 20.48 ahead 400m champion Lalonde Gordon (20.70) and Emanuel Callender (Memphis) 20.90.

Sorillo’s time was under the Olympic A standard of 20.55 and short of his 2011 winning time of 20.16.  In the prelims, Gordon was fastest (20.70) ahead of Callender (20.74) and Sorillo (20.83). Selvon had the fight to hold on to her title winning in 22.96, 0.02 second ahead of Semoy Hackett (Zenith). Selvon came off the bend in the lead but Hackett came charging at her but fell short taking the silver (22.98). Both dipped under the Olympic A mark of 23.10; Reyare Thomas (Neon Trackers) collected the bronze in 23.36 (pb). In the prelims Hackett was the top qualifier (23.48) ahead of Selvon (23.62) and Thomas (23.95).

Cleopatra Borel captured her ninth national title with a distance of 17.98 with defending champion Annie Alexander (Burnley) in second (16.79). Each of the Olympic-bound thrower’s efforts (16.92m, 17.01m, 17.45m, 17.82m, 17.98m) were good enough to win. Hilenn James GC Strides in third with 15.78m. Rebirth’s Keshorn Walcott took gold in the men’s Javelin Throw with a distance of 75.00m. The national record holder failed to make the Olympic standard of 82.00m is expected to be named the Olympic team after he made the B standard of 80.11 metres. Walcott was followed by Zenith’s Shakiel Waithe in second with 51.46m and Precious George (Warriors) taking the bronze with 51.24m.

New national record for the mens 4x400 (Quow, Gordon, Solomon, Lendore).

3:00:45

This is proof that we have a chance of reaching the podium with this team.

Throw in Jehue and the side is deadly!

Anyone here that ever says that Brown is the second coming, that he will shock people, that he will rise again needs to be BANNED for at least the next 25 Olympics.

As for the times run, there is evidence that maybe this time the clockers got it right.  Just look at the times the top runners have achieved up until this meeting.

The 4 x 400 team can possibly make the finals...winning a medal?  They have to run below 3.00.  If Jehue is added and the times dip....then ok, an outside chance at a medal.

Very encouraging display by the junior 4x400m relay team. They should medal in the World Juniors.
Don't think Jehue can help the senior team, Machel Cedenio now has a much faster PR and Jereem Richards should be a better option as a "fresh" and talented reserve.

Big respect for these!  :beermug:

Btw the 2nd video is for the Women's 200m B Final and not the Women's 200m A Final.
Also 3rd video is Men 200m A Final and not the Women's 4 x 100m relay.

Also there is still no video of the Men's 400m A Final in which Gordon dethroned Quow.

cedenio has ran a lot this season and he is only 17, i doubt his body could handle the additional workload of the olympics.  if ade alleyne forte is in form i would have him as the reserve for the relay instead of cedenio.  cedenio time will come.  he will be the man to break ian morris record.

Bledman wins Trinidad and Tobago title in 9.86

Keston Bledman won his first senior national sprint title in style, bolting to victory in a personal best 9.86 seconds at the Hasely Crawford Stadium in Port of Spain, late on Saturday (23).

At the halfway mark, "Blazing Bledman" was in charge, motoring to the line for a commanding victory in the NAAA Sagicor/NGC National Open Track and Field Championship men’s 100 metres final.

Richard "Torpedo" Thompson did not achieve his beaver-trick goal, but had the satisfaction of getting home in an impressive 9.96 seconds to seize silver.

Rondel Sorrillo clocked a new personal record (PR), 10.03, to claim bronze, ahead of Marc Burns (10.06), Emmanuel Callender (10.12), Jamol James (10.17), Darrel Brown (10.27) and Aaron Armstrong (10.51).

Bledman had sounded a warning ahead of the final with a speedy victory in the second semifinal, clocking 10.04 seconds to beat Sorrillo (10.11) into second spot.

After the championship race, Bledman told the Sunday Express he is extremely satisfied with his performance.

"I’m just thanking the Lord for coming out injury free. I’m very, very, very happy with the time. My fans came so I had to give them a show."

"No disrespect to (Usain) Bolt, (Yohan) Blake, my training Tyson Gay, but when I go to the Olympics, I’m going to win. I ain’t going there to play around. I have at least 9.7 in me."

Bledman is now joint-second on the all-time Trinidad and Tobago performance list, with quadruple Olympic medallist Ato Boldon. Thompson is in the number one spot with his 9.85 seconds national record.

Baptiste dominates

Kelly-Ann Baptiste whipped the T&T young brigade in the women's 100m final. The World Championship bronze medallist separated herself from the field early in the race, and by the halfway stage was in full control. Baptiste went on to win in 10.98 seconds, finishing well ahead of Semoy Hackett, the silver medallist in 11.14, Kai Selvon (11.24) and Michelle-Lee Ahye (11.29).

A strong finish from Lalonde Gordon earned the 23-year-old athlete gold in the men's 400m. Gordon clocked 45.40 seconds to grab the title from Renny Quow, the 2011 champion finishing second in 45.60. Third spot went to 19-year-old Deon Lendore (45.74).
Jarrin Solomon (45.88) copped fourth spot, and 17-year-old Machel Cedenio finished fifth in a personal best 46.02 seconds - a new national youth (under-18) record.

Lendore, in lane three, made the early running in the one-lap final, quickly making up the stagger on Quow, in four. But Quow stepped up a gear in the second half of the race, catching Lendore about 60 metres from home.

Gordon, though, was strongest in the dying stages, surging past the pair and thrusting an arm in the air to celebrate his first national title.

Sparkle McKnight produced a superb run in the women’s 400m final, winning in a Championship record 52.44 seconds, from Shawna Fermin (53.39) and Alena Brooks (54.27).

4x400m record

On Sunday (24), Quow, Gordon, Solomon and Lendore combined to break a 20-year-old Trinidad and Tobago record.

The T&T quartet stopped the clock at three minutes, 00.45 seconds to erase the 3:01.05 men’s 4x400 metres standard, established by Patrick Delice, Alvin Daniel, Neil De Silva and Ian Morris way back in 1992.

The 3:00.45 clocking earned T&T a huge victory in the men’s mile relay, the final event at the Championships. Venezuela finished a distant second in 3:04.05.

The T&T junior team - Asa Guevara, Brandon Benjamin, Theon Lewis and Machel Cedenio - also impressed, picking up bronze in 3:05.95.

Sorrillo dominated his rivals in the men's 200m final, holding on to his title with a 20.48 seconds run.

Callender led coming off the turn, but Sorrillo was superb on the straight, surging past the leader and romping to victory. Gordon, the new 400m champion, was also strong on the straight, moving past Callender to claim silver in 20.77. Callender was forced to settle for bronze in 20.90.

After the race, Sorrillo said he expects to run a lot faster at the London Olympics.
"My hope is to be top four. I know I have a lot more in me. It’s just to put it out at the right time and run a technically correct race."

Selvon retained her women's 200m title. The 20-year-old sprinter just got the better of Hackett in a battle royale in front of an appreciative main stand crowd.

Nineteen-year-old Keshorn Walcott topped the men's Javelin field with a big 75.00 metres throw - a new Championship record.

Cleopatra Borel put 17.98m for gold in the women's Shot. Quincy Wilson retained his men's discus title with a 56.25m effort.

Chris Hercules won his eighth straight men's Triple Jump title with a 16.17m jump.
