Here is video of the 100m final today.

Looks like Burns just managed to snatch 2nd or 3rd place and Sorrillo was well beaten by most of the field.

Impressive Blake lays down marker for Bolt
LUCERNE, Switzerland, July 17

(Reuters) - World 100 metres champion Yohan Blake showed he was in good heart to challenge compatriot Usain Bolt for Olympic sprint dominance in London by clocking 9.85 seconds to win at a meeting in Lucerne on Tuesday.

Blake, making his first appearance since beating Olympic 100 and 200 champion Bolt over both distances at the Jamaican trials in late June and early July, burst clear in the final 30 metres to win easily on a warm and sunny evening in the Swiss city.

Jamaica's Michael Frater was second in 10.0 with Trinidad & Tobago's Marc Burns, given the same time, in third place.

Blake shocked training partner and world record holder Bolt with an emphatic win in the 100m at the Jamaican trials in Kingston, following up with an even more impressive performance in the 200.

The 22-year-old won the world 100 title in Daegu, South Korea, last year, a race notable for the absence of Bolt who was disqualified for a false-start.

Jamaica appear to have unearthed another sprint sensation in little-known 21-year-old Jason Young, who clocked the third fastest 200m of the year by winning in 19.86, smashing his lifetime best of 20.42 by over half a second.

Only Blake (19.80) and Bolt (19.83) have gone quicker in 2012.

There was disappointment, however, for Jamaica's Olympic 200m champion Veronica Campbell-Brown who suffered a surprise defeat by American ChaRonda Williams.

Campbell-Brown, 30, who could only finish third in the Jamaican trials, appeared to have the race in control but faded into second as a fast-finishing Williams won in a relatively pedestrian 22.52.

"Not the result I wanted. But I am thankful that I am healthy and have the opportunity to move forward towards the Olympics," the 2004 and 2008 Olympic champion tweeted.

American Kellie Wells, who inflicted a first defeat of the season on world 100 metres hurdles champion and Olympic favourite Sally Pearson in London on Saturday, failed to follow up after finishing third behind compatriot Ginnie Crawford.

Wells (12.79) lost momentum after hitting the second hurdle and could not recover as Crawford won in 12.61, ahead of Turkey's European champion Nevin Yanit (12.73).

Jamaican Sheri-Ann Brooks (11.12) just pipped Trinidad's Kelly-Ann Baptiste (11.13), the world bronze medallist, to win the 100m. (Writing by Justin Palmer in London, editing by Pritha Sarkar)

I think Kelly-Ann should have ran more 200ms this season to build-up on her speed endurance.
She got pipped at the line because she was unable to maintain her top end speed for the final 15 to 20ms of the race.

Every athlete is thinking differently depending on how close they think they are to their peak. Kelly Ann must be saying I just want to win with little exertion, This is just fine tuning. just can't forget Crawfie in Munich, and then the situation with Darrel in Greece?

BURNS CLOCKS 10 FLAT ...Injured Bledman in Germany for treatment

BURNS CLOCKS 10 FLAT
Injured Bledman in Germany for treatment

By Kwame Laurence kwame.laurence@trinidadexpress.com
Story Created: Jul 17, 2012 at 10:59 PM ECT

Marc Burns produced his fastest clocking in three years, at the International Athletics Meeting in Lucerne, Switzerland, yesterday.

The Trinidad and Tobago track star clocked 10.00 seconds to finish third in the men's 100 metres dash, behind Jamaicans Yohan Blake and Michael Frater. Blake got to the line in 9.85 seconds, while second-placed Frater was also credited with a 10-flat clocking, just getting the better of Burns in a photo finish.

Another T&T sprinter, Rondel Sorrillo copped seventh spot in 10.23 seconds.

In the 200m, however, Sorrillo got home in 20.40 to bag bronze. Jamaicans Jason Young (19.86) and Warren Weir (20.11) finished first and second, respectively.

And in the women's 100m, T&T's Kelly-Ann Baptiste just missed out on gold, the 2011 World Championship bronze medallist clocking 11.13 seconds to finish second, behind Jamaican Sheri-Ann Brooks (11.12) and ahead of American Charonda Williams (11.13).

At an international meet, in Lignano, Italy, yesterday, T&T's Aaron Armstrong emerged victorious in the men's 100m event in 10.30 seconds.

Burns' 10-flat dash in Lucerne was the T&T sprinter's fastest clocking since his 10.00 seconds seventh-place finish in the 2009 World Championship final, in Berlin, Germany.

Burns was a member of the T&T quartet that won the men's 4x100m relay in rainy London on Saturday, at the Aviva London Grand Prix Samsung Diamond League meet.

Sorrillo, Burns, Emmanuel Callender and Richard "Torpedo" Thompson combined for a 38.23 seconds clocking—the second fastest time in the world this year.

Thompson told the Express he was pleased with the team's performance.

"It was a good run for us, especially given the conditions. The exchanges weren't flawless—we still have a few things to brush up on and a few adjustments to make.

"I spoke with the guys over the weekend, and we are willing to run any leg (at the Olympic Games). There is no pride or clash of egos. It's whatever is best for T&T. We would love nothing better than to bring the gold back home."

Missing from the T&T quartet on Saturday was Keston Bledman, who clocked a personal best 9.86 seconds to win the national 100m title last month.

"Once Bledman is added to the team," said Thompson, "we certainly feel we can run faster."

On Friday, Bledman clocked 10.27 seconds to finish fourth in his heat and ninth overall in the Aviva London Grand Prix men's 100m preliminaries. He did not qualify for the final.

Bledman felt tightness in his leg while in the starting blocks, and opted to skip the relay and fly to Germany for treatment. He was diagnosed with a twisted pelvis, but is hoping to be ready for the Olympics, in London, England. The opening round of the men's 100m dash at the London Games is on August 4.

Good to see Marc getting into shape ahead of the games he seems to be doing well and he will be a valuable member on that second leg- I think if we maintain the same format but put Keston on the first leg as he is great out of the blocks we should have a solid performance and a medal.

Emmanuel Callender has been and will continue to be a star on that 3rd leg, the past 2 times we've medalled he lost little ground on Usain Bolt and that was key.

KAB didn't seem too bothered and she appears to be in similar form to last year where she won in 11.11 with -0.1m/s wind. I do agree that she has to work on her speed endurance for certain as she's lacking in that department- however she did look as if she eased up near the line. She was relaxed all the way through(normally her face grimaces to the latter part) and that's a positive. She just has to bring it at the Games make the final and anything can happen.

Hope it's not serious....we can pull an upset if all are healthy and exchanges are on point not to mention it would be great to see 3 trinis line up in that 100 m final.  Thompson, Bledmen and Burns.  wooo

Yes! the unsung hero of our 4 x 100 m team.  He delivers.

KAB seems not be stressed but she will have it tough.

Will it be a good idea to let Burns run the individual 100m instead of Sorillo? Can Sorillo do 100m, 200m, and 4x100m??

I too am in favour of letting Burns be the 3rd 100m representative. All of Sorrillo's performance's this season outside of T&T trials might have him struggling just to make the semis in London. Burns on the other hand has shown time and time again the ability to bring his best performances for the major champs and make the finals. Doing so will be very hard this year, but if I had to choose between the two, Burns is my man. Sorrillo is better off focusing his energies on the deuce. However with all that said, he did beat Burns at trials which is a major checkpoint for being selected to the squad, so if the NAAA chooses him, he will have my full support.

:beermug: Full agreement!

If we are only allowed 3 athletes to contest the individual 100m in London then if I was Sorrillo I would concentrate on the 200m and being part of the 4x100m relay squad and allow Marc “Finalist” Burns who has a proven track record of making finals at major championships and is obviously hitting his best form at the right time once again to be the 3rd athlete alongside Bledman and Thompson to represent T&T in the individual 100m flat.

Sorrillo's advantage in concentrating on the 200m is that he has already improved his basic 100m sprinting speed this season and will be fresher than most of the other 200m contenders that he will be up against in London like Blake and Bolt who would have doubled and not be as fresh as himself.

So I see it to Sorrillo's advantage to concentrate on the 200m as once he makes that final and is fresher than most of the other finalists then anything can happen if he runs the race of his life.
Sorrillo has also already proven to be quite competent on the 1st leg of the 4x100m relay team if Bledman is unable to run the 1st leg for one reason or the other.

Will still respect whatever decision Sorrillo makes but that is how I see it.

The reason why i posed this suggestion was due to the fact that Aaaron Armstrong placed third in the National trials for the world championships last year and didnt even make it past the first round at the games

National Trials ALWAYS have men producing seasons best and then they cannot even come close to that time until the next year's national trials.  Go figure.

That is nothing new....men have been steupsing after seeing the likes of Anthony Husbands, Christopher Braithwaite, Rudy Reid etc compete in the 70s then go abroad and run 11 point. Some athletes run well at home but cannot reproduce in different climates, while others thrive. Burns is running better than he did at the trials, go figure.

London 2012 Olympics: Yohan Blake sends out warning to Usain Bolt ahead of Games with victory in Lucerne
By Simon Hart, Athletics Correspondent
11:42PM BST 17 Jul 2012

Yohan Blake, the world 100 metres champion and conqueror of training partner Usain Bolt at last month’s Jamaican trials, warmed up for the London Olympics with victory in 9.85 seconds in Lucerne on Tuesday night – his third quickest time this summer.

In his final race before he joins up with his Jamaican team-mates at their Birmingham training base, Blake made the most of a helpful tailwind of 1.6m/sec to race to a convincing win over compatriot Nester Carter, with Trinidadian Marc Burns third. Both men were timed at 10.00sec.

It was Blake’s first competitive outing since his double triumph over Bolt in the 100m and 200m in Kingston and underlined again that he will be a powerful threat to his training partner’s gold medal ambitions in London.

But Blake, 21, admitted that whatever the outcome, he will remain close friends with the triple Olympics champion, whom he credits with helping his development at the Kingston-based Racers Track Club.

“Win, lose or draw we are friends, even though it is business and he wants to win and I want to win,” said Blake.

British pole-vaulter Kate Dennison, who has spent the season mainly in the shadow of UK record-holder Holly Bleasdale, warmed up for the Olympics with a victory in a seasons best of 4.56m.

Fellow Briton Danny Talbot, the European 200m bronze medallist, was also in top form as he ran a lifetime best of 20.52sec in last night’s 200m ‘B’ race. Having already been selected for London 2012 in the 4x100m relay, his performance may well be enough to secure the one unfilled GB spot in the individual 200m at the Olympics.

World bronze medallist Andy Turner, who has been hampered all season by an Achilles problem, finished fourth in the 110m hurdles in 13.48sec in a race won in 13.32sec by American Ryan Wilson.

The performance of the night came from little known Jamaican Jason Young, 21, who obliterated his personal best to win the 200m ‘A’ race in a super-quick 19.86sec — the third fastest time in the world this year.
