No slowing down Debe, St Francois

League champions Debe Secondary (South) and St Francois Girls College (North) remained undefeated, and on top of the standings in the BGTT/ First Citizens Secondary Schools’ Football League (SSFL) Girls Championship, after Sunday’s matches.

Debe, which has won the zonal title on six consecutive occasions, secured yet another convincing win, after dropping Point Fortin East 3-0 at the newly refurbished Debe High School Ground.

National youth players, Kayla Taylor and Patrice Vincent, who represented T&T at the FIFA Under-17 Women’s World Cup in 2010,  were on target. Taylor opened the scoring, before captain Vincent sealed another three points with a brace.

The win put Debe on a perfect nine points from three matches, after opening the season with a 4-1 win over Fyzabad Secondary, followed by a 2-0 triumph over Vessigny Secondary, last week. Vessigny, however, bounced back to record its first victory in the campaign with a 5-0 thrashing of Pleasantville.

In the North, 2011 Coca-Cola Trinidad InterCol finalist and dominant North Zone outfit St Francois Girls College edged Providence 1-0, thanks to a goal from Simone Emmanuel, which was her third in two matches. St Francois again leads the charge in the North, with four consecutive victories.

Its first win came via a default 3-0 win over no-show Malick Secondary, followed by a 5-1 whipping of Tranquility. In the third match, St Francois showed no mercy with an easy 4-0 win over Holy Name Convent, last Thursday, before Providence managed to limit the champions’ potent attack to one goal.

Action in East saw Arima North also secure its fourth consecutive victory, a 2-0 result over last year’s “Big Four” champion El Dorado East, while St Augustine similary took its fourth win on the trot with a 6-0 demolition of St George’s College.

The latter win, in which Chelsea Gibbs, Celeste Thomas and Shannon Sergus bagged a double each, saw St Augustine scored an incredible 31 goals from only four matches. Almost half of the tally came on the opening day when St Augustine slammed Bishops East 14-0.

It was no surprise then that Toco added to Bishops’ woes with a 5-0 win in Sunday’s other East Zone match. Arima North and St Augustine will meet in a highly anticipated top-of-the-table clash, in St Augustine, on Thursday. There was no action in Tobago due to the unavailability of venues.

Crucial clashes in SSFL today.

East Mucurapo Secondary have a chance to regain the BG T&T/First Citizens Secondary Schools Football League (SSFL) North Zone lead today, but will need a big win away to defending champions St Anthony's College, at Westmoorings.

The "Tigers" are currently top of the standings with 11 points, three ahead of Mucurapo, who have already had their bye. Second-placed Fatima have their break today, giving "Compre" a shot at the lead.

St Anthony's are yet to lose this season, but they have stayed within touching distance in a competitive North Zone due to draws against debutants Diego Martin North Secondary and Fatima, who equalised late in Saturday's encounter at Fatima.

St Mary's College have a tough clash ahead of them on their visit to Trinity College at Moka. And Diego Martin host QRC, who are yet to pick up a point despite a number of close results.

South Zone's leading match is arguably more crucial, with Presentation College San Fernando and Shiva Boys Hindu College locking horns at Penal for the top spot on the standings. The teams are locked on 12 points each, with "Pres" ahead only on goal difference. That means a victory for either party will hand them a clear lead.

St Benedict's College can gain ground with a win against Princes Town at La Romaine, while Naparima College are favoured against Moruga Composite at the Manny Ramjohn Stadium, in Marabella.

The other zone in action today is East. That zone continues to be very tight, but El Dorado East will have an eye on stretching their lead. They travel to meet Toco, who have been woeful this season so far. El Dorado can also benefit if St Augustine and San Juan North Secondary play to a draw, at St Augustine.

Arima North Secondary will fancy their chances of beating Trinity College East, at the Larry Gomes Stadium, in Malabar, Arima. Trinity have been banned from using their Sixth Form players by the SSFL, and the matter is set to go before arbitration.

St Anthony's College and Presentation College San Fernando both secured narrow wins yesterday to stretch their lead atop the BG T&T/First Citizens Secondary Schools Football League (SSFL) North Zone and South Zone standings respectively.

The Westmoorings "Tigers", defending North and National champs, edged past East Mucurapo Secondary at home with a second half goal by Shaquille Long, who struck in the 73rd minute.

There were some nervous moments two minutes later for St Anthony's, but Mucurapo defender Alvin Jones had his penalty saved by Tigers' goalkeeper Jevon Sample.

"Pres" also kept their lead by beating second-placed Shiva Boys Hindu College 1-0 in Penal. It was Shiva's first loss this season.

Other North Zone action saw St Mary's College also edge Trinity College 1-0 at Moka, and QRC won 3-1 for their first points of the season on their visit to Diego Martin North.

Down South, Naparima College blasted lowly Moruga Secondary 5-0, while St Benedict's College were held 1-1 by Princes Town West at La Romaine.

In the East, St Augustine beat San Juan North Secondary 2-1 despite a late goal by San Juan's Benjamin Magloure, while Arima North Secondary drew 2-2 with Trinity College East.

The other match, featuring Toco Secondary and El Dorado East Secondary at Toco, was postponed due to the recent death of a Toco student.

Big scorer St Augustine hosts Arima North in girls SSFL.

One school will have the chance to go clear in the six-team standings when the current top two teams in the East Zone, St Augustine Secondary and Arima North Secondary battle in the BGTT First Citizens Secondary Schools Football League (SSFL) Girls Championship, at St Augustine Ground, today.

The feature encounter, along with all other matches in the four zones will commence at 3.45 pm. Both Arima North and St Augustine have won all four of their matches thus far, and most by a handsome margin.

Three players, Chelsea Gibbs, Celeste Thomas and Shannon Sergus, each scored a double for St Augustine against bottom-placed St George’s College on Sunday and which contributed to the incredible goal tally which now stands at 31 goals in four matches.

Meanwhile, Arima North, which hasn’t scored nearly as many goals as St Augustine has made all of its matches count, securing two 2-1 victories over St George’s and Toco Secondary, before dropping to El Dorado East 2-0 on the weekend.

Its other win came via a 7-0 victory over bottom-placed Bishop Anstey. Another keen battle is expected in the North when top of the table and undefeated reigning zonal champions St Francois travels to Federation Park to challenge St Joseph’s Convent.

In the South Zone, leader Debe Secondary is on a bye, which will allow for Vessigny to pick up pace when it takes on Point Fortin East at Techier Village Ground, Point Fortin.

Gibbs hat-trick sinks Arima.

Forward Chelsea Gibbs found the back of the net three times as St Augustine girls romped to an 8-0 win over Arima in their East Zone clash of the Secondary Schools Football League at the St Augustine ground, Thursday.

The nippy player opened the scoring in the 20th minute before the lead was doubled through an Arima own goal two minutes later. Gibbs gave the “Green Machine” girls a 3-0 advantage as she slotted home her second in the 29th minute.

Arima were kept on the back foot for the remainder of the half, however, they ensured that no more goals were scored before the break.

Gibbs, who had a shot come back off the crossbar, made another run down the left side before squaring the ball for Celeste Thomas to slot home the first of a double in the 47th to make it 4-0. Two minutes later Thomas dribbled her way into the box to set up Laurelle Theodore for an easy tap-in.

Gibbs got her third after another fine run by Thomas who chipped the ball over Tamika Belfonte in goal and it was 6-0 in the 51st minute.

Thomas should have increased the advantage soon after, however she shot wide of an open goal after Gibbs played the ball across the goal mouth. Gibbs continued to torment the Arima defence and was brought down in the box in the 57th minute.

Naomie Guerra stepped up and placed the ball to the left of the Arima custodian and into the back of the net to make it 7-0. The Gustine goal keeper was virtually a spectator as the ball seldom entered the home team’s half.

The icing was placed on the cake by Thomas with a wonderful strike which flew past a helpless Belfonte with ten minutes to go. Arima were able to ensure that no more goals were scored as the match ended 8-0.

“Gustine” ended the first round at the top on 15 points from five matches, with five wins, while keeping a clean slate.

Champions Debe girls blank Point Fortin
T&T Newsday Reports.

DEBE BLANKED Point Fortin 3-0 on Sunday as the BGTT First Citizens Secondary Schools Football League (SSFL) Girls’ Championships South Zone continued.

Patrice Vincent notched a double for Debe while Kayla Taylor got the other, as Debe continued their defence of the zonal crown.

Also in the South Zone, Vessigny trounced Pleasantville 5-0.

Presentation College of San Fernando led by striker Shackiel Henry will be hoping to extend its 100 per cent South Zone winning record to six matches when it faces second-from-bottom Pleasantville at Manny Ramjohn Stadium, Marabella from 3.45 pm when the BGTT/First Citizens Secondary Schools Football League resumes today.

Henry has netted nine of his team’s 16 goals this season, including the lone item in a 1-0 win over defending zonal champion Shiva Boys on Wednesday last and will be confident of adding to his tally against a Pleasantville defence which has already let in 13 goals in five matches.

Presentation currently leads the seven-team table with maximum 15 points and a win today will ensure it ends the first round as table leaders with Shiva Boys’ and Naparima College in hot chase on 12 points each.
 
However, Naparima is on a bye today having completed its first round campaign, while Shiva faces a tricky test in fourth-placed St Benedict’s College at its David Williams Recreation Ground, Penal, while Moruga, yet to earn a point, entertains Princes Town.

In the Central Zone, perennial champions, Carapichaima East, 9-0 victors over Presentation College of Chaguanas in its last outing and led by the league’s top scorer in Shaquille Hodler (12 goals) will also seek to sustain its 100 per cent winning record when it hunts a fourth straight win to start the season against second-placed Chaguanas North (seven points), at Homeland Gardens. Chgauanas is coming off a 6-0 thumping of Gasparillo on Saturday last.
 
Presentation and Couva West, third and fourth on the six-team table meet at Presentation while Tabaquite, buoyed by its 1-0 triumph over Couva West seven days ago, is at home to Gasparillo in the zone’s other matches.

At the Larry Gomes Stadium, Malabar, the top spot in the East Zone will be up for grabs when defending champion and current table-toppers El Dorado East faces second-placed Arima North.

The “Blue Thunder” of El Dorado East lead with ten points from four matches and will be well rested for the match after its scheduled match against Toco on Wednesday was postponed, while Arima North, a point behind from a match more, needed two second-half replies to earn a 2-2 draw with Trinity East.
 
San Juan North, joint third with idle St Augustine on eight points each, can also go top of the table with a win at home to second from bottom El Dorado West should the match at Malabar end in a draw, while Toco will be keen to honour the death of sixth form student and avid supporter Peter Richards on Tuesday night with a win at home to Trinity East.

In the North, reigning zonal and national champions St Anthony’s College heads the table with 14 points from its six first round matches and is on a bye today leaving the way for the chasing pack to trim its four point lead.

Second-placed Fatima, which is four points behind, will journey to Moka, Maraval for a clash with Trinity College while third-placed East Mucurapo, 1-0 losers to the “Westmooring Tigers” on Wednesday meets promoted Diego Martin North at Fatima Ground, Mucurapo, and St Mary’s College and Queen’s Royal College, coming off its first win of the campaign—3-1 over “Diego”—face off at St Mary’s Ground, Serpentine Road.

Over in Tobago, Signal Hill, which drew its only match so far this season, 1-1 with Mason Hall, is at home to Speyside, which drew 3-3 with Scarborough in its lone match to date while Roxborough hopes to finally play its first match of the season, as it hosts Scarborough at Settlement Ground, Roxborough.

St Augustine takes on Bishops in SSFL Girls’ clash.
T&T Guardian Reports.

Undoubtedly the most dominant team thus far this season, St Augustine Secondary, will be seeking to enter the second round of competition with another easy win, when it takes on Bishops Anstey High today in the BGTT/ First Citizens Secondary Schools Football League (SSFL) Girls Championship.

This will be played at St Augustine Ground from 3 pm. Its most recent result, a whopping 8-0 win over second-placed Arima North, put St Augustine on a perfect 15 points from five matches. The handsome victory also saw St Augustine on 43 goals for the season, without a goal allowed.
 
Their opposition Bishops continues to struggle. On Thursday Bishops suffered a 6-0 defeat to El Dorado East, and has scored only one goal this season.

Bishops, in fact, was on the receiving end of the most one-sided match this season, when it lost 14-0 to St Augustine, in the opening match of the season.

The other match of the round will see Arima North (second) taking on St George’s College (second from bottom), also at 3 pm.  The divisions’s other match between Toco Secondary and El Dorado East will be played tomorrow (Monday), at Toco Ground from 3.45 pm.

Henry scores again to keep ‘Pres’ perfect.

Shackiel Henry again scored the all important goal to lead Presentation College San Fernando, to a slender 1-0 win over Pleasantville yesterday in the BGTT/ First Citizens Secondary Schools’s Football League (SSFL) South Zone, to become the only school in the league with a 100 per cent win rate. The match took place at the Manny Ramjohn Stadium in Marabella.

Henry, who went into double digits with a tenth minute strike, has now scored in all but one of “Pres’” victories this season, and has scored more than half of his team’s goals. The day got even better for Presentation when they learned the result of its nearest challenger, reigning South champion Shiva Boys, being held to a 1-1 draw with St Benedict’s at the David Williams Recreation Ground in Penal.

And the untimely result for Shiva would have gotten worse with the dismissal of its goal scorer on the day, Qwesi Weston, who received a red card.
 
Incidentally, St Benedict’s lone goal scorer Jameel Boatswain was also red-carded in the match. The fixture then saw its third red card with the sending off of Shiva’s Dwight Pope, as the zone’s defending champion finished the match with nine men.

The match at Moruga’s Ground, where Moruga was scheduled to host Princes Town was called off, as the referee deemed the field “unplayable”.

Up North, with reigning champion and leader St Anthony’s College on a bye, Fatima College had the opportunity to go within one point at the top of the standings, and did just that, when it whipped Trinity College 5-0, at Trinity Ground, Moka.

It was a very straightforward win for the upcoming Fatima footballers with five different scorers finding the back of the net. Former St Mary’s College midfielder Jason Mendez opened in the first half, with Arvin Prescod, Jamil Young, Leland Archer and Seon Thomas all adding to the rout.

The third best team in the standings, East Mucurapo also scored five goals, this at the expense of Diego Martin North Secondary, with the former coming away 5-2 winners at Fatima Ground, Mucurapo.
 
In the day’s other match, St Mary’s College continued to find consistency as it was held 2-2 at home to QRC.

In the Central Zone, Jaron Humphrey netted an 88th minute item to hand Chaguanas North a shock 2-1 win over perennial champions, Carapichaima East who ended the match with ten men after the 80th minute dismissal of goalkeeper Jordan Prince for a second bookable offense.

Early on, Carapichaima looked set for a fourth straight win to start the season when Kern Alexis fired in a second minute go-ahead at Home Land Gardens, Chaguanas.

However, with the sending off of Prince, Chaguanas North grabbed command and drew level with five minutes left thanks to David Maloney before Humphrey netted the win to send his team top of the table with ten points from four matches, one more than Carapichaima.
 
Couva West moved into second spot with a 1-0 win away to Presentation College of Chaguanas thanks toa  70th minute strike from Jaffet Williams while Gasparillo got its first point of the season in a 1-1 draw at Tabaquite.

A new leader was also established in the East Zone as national Under-20 striker Marcus Gomez banged in a first-half brace to lead Arima North to a come-frome-behind 4-3 triumph over defending champions El Dorado East.

The El Dorado “Blue Thunder” look on course for three points when Cory Stewart and Mark Williams scored in the eighth and 15th minute for a 2-0 cushion. However, Thomas O’Neil pulled one back for the Arima “Dial Dynamos” a minute later before Gomez fired in two quick strikers in the 41st and 45th minute for a 3-2 lead at the interval.

Five minutes after the restart, Neveal Hackshaw extended Arima’s lead to 4-2 but this was quickly trimmed to a one-goal advantage when his goalkeeper, Anthony Kallicharan conceded an own goal for El Dorado East to trail, 4-3.
 
Despite being put under pressure, Arima managed to hold on for the win and climbed over itrs rival and into top spot with 12 points from six matches, one ahead of San Juan North which blanked El Dorado East 2-0 at Bourg Mulatresse with a double from Anthony Downes, in the 30th and 58th.

El Dorado East dropped to third on ten points but with a match in hand against cellar-placed Toco, which was thrashed at home 6-1 by visitors Trinity East in the zone’s other match.

In Tobago, Scarborough Secondary moved to the top of the table on goal-difference from Speyside after a 5-2  thrashing of host Roxborough Secondary at Settlement Ground. Speyside, meanwhile, stunned former champions Signal Hill, 2-1 at Signal Hill with national player, Brandon Benjamin scoring an 89th minute winner.

Carapichaima finally beaten.

CHAGUANANAS NORTH remain the only unbeaten school in the Central Zone of the BGT&T/First Citizens Secondary Schools Football League (SSFL) after beating defending champions Carapichai-ma Secondary 2-1 at Edinburgh 500 ground, Cunupia.

With victory, Chaguanas North climbed to the top of the standings with 10 points gained from three victories and a draw.

Carapichaima stay second on nine points from three wins and yesterday's lone defeat.

Yesterday, Carapichaima got a flying start and led in just the second minute through Kern Alexis.

They held the 1 -0 lead to the half, but it was in the second session when the home team rallied to win.

First, David Maloney brought Chaguanas level at 1-1 in the 75th minute and Javon Neptune (88th) added salt to the wound by getting the winner two minutes from the end of the regulation period.

Meanwhile, down South, a very heated match between defending champions Shiva Boys and St Benedict's College ended in a 1-1 draw.

Eight cards were shown by the match referee, including two red cards to Shiva Boys, who had two players sent off. St Benedict's also had a player ejected from the field.

Elsewhere in the zone, leaders Presentation College picked up a sixth straight win and stretched their lead atop the zone to six points after edging Pleasantville 1-0.

And Arima North are the new East Zone leaders after leapfrogging El Dorado East, who they beat 4-3 at the Larry Gomes Stadium, Malabar.

Unbeaten Arima now have 12 points after picking up a third victory in six matches, while the "Blue Thunder" remain second on 10 point after suffering a first defeat in five matches.

El Dorado played a match less than Arima.

St Augustine racks up another big win.

Six different players were on target for St Augustine Secondary when it continued its fine form by extended its 100-per cent winning streak to six matches in the BGTT/First Citizens Secondary Schools Football League (SSFL) Girls Championship with a second-leg 11-0 thrashing of promoted team Bishop Anstey East, at St Augustine Ground, on Sunday.

The one-sided scoreline was only three goals shy of its 14-0 thrashing inflicted on the opening day of the season, but it was enough to put the Eastern giants on an incredible tally of 54 goals from six matches played.
 
Laurelle Theodore led the way with a hat-trick, with Adanya Phillip and Celeste Thomas on a double. Chelsea Bibbs, who scored four in the season opener scored just one, as did Portious Warren and Shandelle Fortune.

Despite statistically being the strongest attacking team in the league this season, St Augustine, however, was not the only school to keep its perfect winning streak intact from the start of the season.

South favourite Debe Secondary also recorded a fifth win in five matches, without kicking a ball. Debe defeated Pleasantville 3-0 by default. InterCol winner Vessigny, meanwhile, recorded an easy 4-0 win over bottom team Fyzabad Secondary to sit second in the standings on goal difference.

The BG T&T/First Citizens Secondary Schools Football League (SSFL) resumes today with action in all zones kicking off at 3:45 p.m.

In the South Zone, leaders Presentation College San Fernando will be looking to stretch their winning streak to seven when they take on Naparima at Manny Ramjohn Stadium, in Marabella.

Elsewhere in the south, St Benedict's will be looking to make up ground when they face Moruga in La Romaine.

In the east, Arima North Secondary will be looking to extend their lead at the top of the standings when they face St Augustine at Larry Gomes Stadium, in Malabar, Arima.

Arima took the East Zone lead on Saturday with a 4-3 win over former leaders, El Dorado East at the same venue.

El Dorado East remain in second with ten points, and will be looking to bounce back from the loss to Arima when they come up against San Juan North at Bourg Mulatresse.

In central, Chaguanas North will be looking to maintain their unbeaten run and their lead in the zone when they host Tabaquite. Chaguanas North have ten points from four matches. Second-placed Carapichaima East, who are on nine points from four games, face Couva West at Carapichaima.

In the north, defending champions St Anthony's College clash with Queen's Royal College at QRC Ground, while Fatima College host East Mucurapo Secondary, and newcomers Diego Martin North Secondary face St Mary's College in Diego Martin.

Tigers hang on to top spot after QRC scare.

Defending champions St Anthony’s College suffered a late fright from a re-energised QRC, but in the end came out on top 4-3 to remain on top of the North Zone BGTT Secondary Schools Football League (SSFL) standings, when action resumed in all five divisions, yesterday.

QRC put on a gallant effort in trying to remove its barren spell at home, while St Anthony’s, which went into the match day as the league’s second strongest team in defence, conceded more goals from the third-from-bottom North Zone team yesterday, than it did in its six previous matches.

The “Tigers” would continue to celebrate upon hearing Fatima College’s setback which saw it lose 1-0 when it hosted East Mucurapo, at Fatima Ground.

Down south, Presentation College again whipped Naparima 3-0 (the same result as the season opener) in the double-header at the Manny Ramjohn Stadium, Marabella, after starting over an hour late.

The opening match between Shiva Boys and Pleasantville, in which the former took away a 1-0 win, was postponed for over an hour as the referees used the opportunity to protest, and subsequently negotiate match fees with teachers and the principal of the affected schools, following which an agreement was reached.

In the East Zone, three different players were on target as Arima North remained a point ahead San Juan North in the race for the title with a 3-1 whipping of fourth placed St Augustine at the Larry Gomes Stadium, Malabar.

Jamal Francois (13th) and Tevin Figaro (15th) scored inside the first 20 minutes for the Arima “Dial Dynamos” to lead 2-0, but two minutes before the half Akeem Garcia pulled one back for St Augustine.

In the second-half, Neveal Hackshaw restored Arima North’s two goals in the 66th minute after which his team held on for the win to improve to 15 points from seven matches, one ahead of San Juan which got a second-half hat-trick from Brent Sam and another goal from Andel Andrews to shutout defending champions El Dorado East, which remained third on ten points with a match in hand.

Meanwhile, El Dorado West got a double from Kiehl Chase to beat Trinity East and open a five-point advantage from cellar-placed Toco, which was on a bye.

Perennial Central Zone champions Carapichaima East rebounded from its 2-1 loss at Chaguanas North on Saturday with an emphatic 11-1 hammering of Couva West to reclaim top spot in the six-team table after the two other scheduled matches were not played.

Unbeaten ‘Gustine’ hosts Toco in SSFL girls.

Runaway East Zone leader St Augustine will be back in action today to continue its 100 per cent winning streak when it faces Toco Secondary in the East Zone division of the BGTT/First Citizens Secondary Schools Football League (SSFL) Girls Championship at St Augustine ground, today.

The match, along with all others in the four contested zones (North, South, East and Tobago) will kick off at 3.45 pm. The big East Zone clash will see St Augustine, which has not only managed to win all of its six matches thus far, but has done so without conceding a goal, come up against Toco, which has a fine attacking record in its past three matches with 13 goals scored.

However, Toco’s attacking strengths in the league have been overshadowed by the ruthless finishing from Chelsea Gibbs, Laurel Theodore and company, who have contributed strongly to St Augustine’s tally of 50 goals, at just over the halfway stage in the season. The other zonal title challenger, Arima North, will take on bottom-of-the-table Bishop Anstey, a team which has allowed 47 goals in six matches.

Up north, zonal champion and current leader St Francois will play for full points when it meets Tranquility Secondary, while Providence takes on Holy Name in another exciting encounter. St Francois got past the same opposition 5-1 in the second match day, while Providence won the first leg 1-0.

Went to see the Pres vs Naps clash.  Nice crowd in the Manny and atmosphere like if Intercol done start already...actually it was that way when they met in the first game in the first rounds as well.  Plenty young girls screaming at their favourite players...but they walking up and down the blasted stadium non-stop.  It had at least 100 students who didn't even see the game cause all them studying to do is lay dey rap on them young girls downstairs.  Pay they money to in the stadium and chat down young girls oui 

Anyway since Seabra take over the coaching duties at Naps they playing like a Brazilian team...real knock, had about 65% of the ball possession (no lie) but had one shot on goal for the whole game.  Pres on the other hand...three passes and they inside Naps 18yds.  Big gun Henry throw away two sitters and missed out on a hattrick.
