Rangers stun Central in Couva

Posted Saturday 3 November 2012 by Editor in Volley (wired868)

The St Ann’s Rangers football club held off a late rally from Central FC for its first win of the 2012/13 Digicel Pro League season this evening at the Ato Boldon Stadium in Couva.

The Rangers team led 3-0 at one point before a late Hayden Tinto double provided a scare. But coach Dean Pacheco’s men resisted successfully to move off the foot of the table.

Central, which is coached by Englishman Graham Rix, came into the fixture with a 100 percent record but trailed after just seven minutes following an early Devon Modeste strike. Modeste grabbed his second in the 72nd minute while Jason Marcano chipped in with an item in the 32nd minute.

Each goal was ultimately important as Tinto notched a late double in the 77th and 90th minutes.

Neal & Massy Caledonia AIA plans T&TEC FC tonight in the final Pro League fixture this weekend.

Unfortunately, I was busy during the game and only caught 5 minute glimpses. For a long period, I thought Central were trailing 1-0 as I missed the early goal. It seemed that Central were in control of the game, with many chances saved or squandered, and with Anton Wolfe hitting a great shot against the upright. So, at (what I thought was) 1-0 I had no doubts that Central would soon equalise. Rangers had the occasional break and Marcano made the best of a defensive error to score what I later discovered was the second goal. (Apparently, Modestes opener was also due to poor defending)

2nd half was more of the same. Lots of Central pressure, but no reward. Rangers still looked dangerous on the break and despite several warnings, Modeste was allowed to put Rangers 3-0 up.

The Sharks kept on pushing and eventually the lively Hayden Tinto hit the back of the net and his second of the night launched a last minute onslaught of thr Rangers goal and Central were unlucky not to score an equaliser, but Rangers threw everything at the ball and some brave goalkeeping saw Rangers take their first points of the season.

Disappointed, but not overly concerned, it was pleasing to see a good number of first time supporters from the Central region.

Caledonia clobbers T&TEC to top Pro League
By Wired868.com

Neal & Massy Caledonia AIA underlined its fine current form with a 6-0 clobbering of T&TEC FC in Digicel Pro League action this evening at the Ato Boldon Stadium, Couva.
The self-declared “Eastern Stallions” have now scored 10 goals from its last two matches. Playmaker Ataullah Guerra has four of those items after his hattrick today. He is the third player to grab a hattrick in the 2012/13 season after T&TEC’s Bevon Bass and Defence Force’s Josimar Belgrave.
Caledonia and T&TEC met once already this season as the former outfit won 2-0 en route to success in last month’s First Citizens Cup. Caledonia fielded an under-strength team in that Cup outing.
Tonight, the Morvant/Laventille-based outfit showed just how devastating its first team can be.
The rejuvenated Conrod Smith opened the scoring after 25 minutes and Guerra doubled Caledonia’s advantage, three minutes before the interval. But the floodgates opened the second half as Guerra scored two more while Keyon Edwards and a Kareem Joseph penalty completed the rout.

I think is time for a "2012/13 Pro League Roundup" or "2012/13 Pro League Fixtures and Results" thread...

I guess the Sharks luck finally ran out, they got string from a weakest team in the league.

Jack Warner will rise again and the world will beg him him to return and he will say "NO".............

It is not about luck. It appears that Rangers made use of their chances and won. The Sharks did not capitalise on their opportunities. Being the "weakest" team is irrelevant. It  is which team showed up mentally to play. So Rangers deserved it. The season still young. This is a mini-marathon, not a sprint.

Sharks celebrate off the field, but miss chance to go top
Central FC Media

“Disappointed, but not dejected” was how Central F.C.’s Head Coach, Graham Rix described his feelings after the Sharks lost their first Pro League game of the season. The California based club were hoping to make it three wins in a row on Saturday as they played in their home stadium, Ato Boldon, for the first time.

The Sharks very nearly completed an exciting comeback after going 3-0 down to St Ann’s Rangers, who were hungry for their first win of the season. But a Hayden Tinto brace wasn’t enough and Rangers hung on to secure 3 points.

“We made a few defensive errors that Rangers pounced on and then we were always chasing the game” said Rix, a former Arsenal captain. “But I was very pleased with the guys attitude, as we continued to play attacking football and very nearly fought our way back.”

Managing Director Brent Sancho said “We were very happy with the support we received and our strategy of bringing young people to our games paid off, as I saw students from Couva East and West, Presentation College Chaguanas amongst the crowd.”

Central F.C. have been spending time off the field visiting schools in the Central area. “These will be our future supporters” said Sancho. “These young people will help to build our club over the years, both on and off the field, so we want to do all we can to encourage them to games.”

At half time, 21 year old defender, Akeem Adams, presented a Central F.C. supporters jersey to 19 year old Brad Bachu of Presentation College Chaguanas. Brad was one of the two 2012 President’s Medal winners, awarded for his academic achievements.

“It’s a great personal achievement for Brad” said Adams, who missed Saturdays game through injury “But it’s more impressive for Presentation College who have had three Presidents Medal winners in three years. It makes us at Central F.C. particularly proud as we use the College facilities to train”

Bachu, of Felicity, Chaguanas credits his sporting activities as motivation for success. Having represented Trinidad & Tobago at table tennis in the Pan American Games, Bachu said that both in sport and education

you should “Never compete with other persons. Compete against yourself because once you begin to compete with others, you begin to limit yourself.” Bachu now plans to continue his studies in the United States.

Central F.C. Assistant Coach, Kevin Jeffrey, himself a product of U.S. education said “ Brad is a perfect example of making use of the synergy between sport and education. A healthy body helps to produce a healthy mind. Some youngsters feel that because they have been blessed with some sporting talent, they can forget their studies. What they don’t realise is that to reach the very top in sport, you must also have a good level of education. “ Jeffrey, who was recruited from college to play professionally in U.S.A added “There are so many times in your career where you must be mentally strong. This strength often comes from developing a good work ethic at school. Nobody likes doing homework, but once you realise that you have to push yourself and sacrifice to achieve your goals, that mental toughness sticks with you throughout life.”

Central F.C. have no time to lick their wounds as they play W.Connection on Tuesday night and then travel to Hasely Crawford on Friday 9th November for an 8pm clash with Defence Force.
The Conquering Lion of Judah shall break every chain.

Yeah good stuff... good write up.  Didn't realize the Ato Boldon was their home stadium... nice.

Well, we kinda commandeered it. But as you would have noticed, it's often not available when we have games. But fair play to the Pro League as they are trying to accommodate us where possible. The St Anns game, for instance was originally an away game at Larry Gomes. Bit due to the lighting problem there, they switched it to Couva and made it our home game.

W Connection faces Central Sharks in rescheduled fixture

Posted Monday 5 November 2012 by Editor in Volley (wired868)

Defending Digicel Pro League champions DirecTV W Connection will hope to shake off a lacklustre start to its 2012/13 tomorrow on 6 November 2012 when the “Savonetta Boys” host rookies Central FC in a rescheduled fixture from 6 pm at the Mannie Ramjohn Stadium, Marabella.

Connection has mustered just two goals from open play after five outings in domestic competition so far this season. Coach Stuart Charles-Fevrier hopes that 20-year-old attacker Shahdon Winchester will finally ditch the “promising” tag and establish himself as a force this year.
