Senior Women Team in Costa Rica for training camp
By Shaun Fuentes (TTFF)

A Trinidad and Tobago Senior Women’s team arrived in Costa Rica on Monday night for a nine-day tour as they prepare for the  2015 Women’s World Cup qualifying campaign.

The team will play four games, two against the Costa Rican National Women’s team and a further two games against two local clubs.

Marlon Charles is the team’s head coach and TTFF technical Director Anton Corneal has also accompanied the team which was originally scheduled to play in the LA Vikings Cup. The team’s trip to LA was called off after the organizers failed to fulfill their initial commitment.

The team’s trip to Costa Rica was made possible through assistance from the Ministry of Sports.

Looking ahead to the camp, Charles said: “It’s a really good opportunity to get the program on stream leading up to the qualifiers next year. The squad itself has a good blend of players who have been to some of regional tournaments in the past and some who have the experience of playing in overseas leagues as well.”

“We will use these matches to assess exactly where we are at this stage of our preparations ahead of the year to come.”

The 2015 Women’s World Cup will the first tournament  that will include 24 teams and consequently the FIFA Executive Committee has decided on a new slot allocation with the increase of teams for the upcoming World Cup.

The allocation is as follows:

AFC: 5 slots
CAF: 3 slots
CONCACAF: 3.5 slots
CONMEBOL: 2.5 Slots
OFC: 1 Slot
UEFA: 8 Slots
HOST: 1 Slot (Canada)

With the new allocations, CONCACAF has 3.5 slots which gives our own Trinidad and Tobago Women's Team an even better chance of earning a final berth in a Women's World Cup Finals.

T&T Women’s Squad:

Goalkeepers: Keri Myers, Shalette Alexander

Defenders: Arin King, Ayana Russell, Anastasia Prescott, Patrice Superville, Afiyah Matthias, Rinelle Findley

Midfielders: Janine Francois, Karyn Forbes, Denecia Prince, Jonelle Warrick, Tasha St. Louis, Patrice Campbell

Forwards: Maylee Attin- Johnson, Kennya Cordner, Marlique Asson, Shanelle Warrick

Staff:

Vernetta Flanders- Team Manager
Marlon Charles- Head Coach
Claire George- Equipment Manager
Donna Wickham -  Physio

Miss King is back home from Europe where she is going to College. She also played fall football for her school (Centennial College Colt's) where she lead the team to a Bronze medal at the OCAA (Ontario Colleges Athletics Association). The medal was the teams first since 2000.

Senior women lose and draw in San Jose.
By Shaun Fuentes (TTFF).

Trinidad and Tobago’s senior women’s team lost their opening match to Costa Rica’s Senior Women’s team 1-0 at the Costa Rican FIFA Goal Project Centre in San Jose on Wednesday.

T&T, under head coach Marlon Charles, managed to put on a good display against the hosts but conceded in the 80th minute.

Charles made  several substitutions and many of the  more experienced players  such as  Arin King, Kennya Cordner, Karyn Forbes and Tasha St. Louis were replaced by a younger  line up to give them exposure to a more intense game.

Costa Rica is preparing for the First Round Qualifiers of the CAC Games which will be played in March 2013 while T&T is looking ahead to upcoming World Cup qualifiers for the 2015 Finals.

T&T played their second game against Alajauela club’s women’s team on Thursday with both teams battling to a 2-2 draw. T&T got goals from St Louis and Janine Francois.

“It’s been two challenging game for us so far which is what the players need at this stage,” Charles told TTFF Media.

“The opening game was always going to be tough but we gave a pretty decent account of ourselves. They got a goal in the closing ten minutes but overall the players were up for the challenge.

We came a little more into our own in the second game. I expect us to improve for the remainder of games. The purpose of the exercise here is about allowing the team to get that needed match practice as we look ahead to the competition later down the road,” Charles added.

T&T Starting 1X: -  Shalette Alexander, Ayana Russell, Arin King, Anastasia Prescott, Patrice Superville, Afiyah Matthias, Maylee Attin- Johnson (capt), Janine Francois, Karyn Forbes, Kennya Cordner, Tasha St. Louis.

The real measure of a man's character is what he would do if he knew he would never be found out.

Even Pellerud new Norway WNT coach

A Norwegian FA press release this afternoon announced the selection of a new women's national team coach. The women's national team and Pellerud is reunited, after he had a spell there between 1989 and 1996. Pellerud had previously been coach of Kongsvinger's men. He also had an active playing career for Vålerengen and Kongsvinger.

Our loss is Norway's gain. Good luck to Coach Pellerud.

Provides an opportunity for the next brilliant TTFF idea: make "co-head coach" Shabazz head Coach of the WNT while also with the MNT. I'll call Guiness.

After Women's Professional Soccer officially folded in May of this year, the U.S., Canadian and Mexican federations will fund and run the new league, hoping that a leaner, meaner pro division will prove financially sustainable where previous iterations were not.

The U.S. federation will fund the participation of 24 players, helping to ensure that some of the bigger names in women's soccer will be paid appropriately to participate in the new league. The Canadian federation will fund 16 of its own players, while the Mexican federation is funding a minimum of 12 players.

I have no doubt that more than a number of our girls are more than capable in playing in this new league. Maylee Johnson,Ahkella Mollen, Kennya Kordner & Arin King to name a few however it becomes a numbers game. If the TTFF approached the USSF who is pearheading this new league and said they wanted to fund a dozen spots like Mexico is. I am quite positive that their would be an accepted response. As they say $$$$ talks.

Out of the names you name there, maybe Mollon might be able to make it. remember Mollon was on trials with the Boston Breakers and could not make it. Maylee had her chance (playing wise), Kenya could not even get through playing JUCO ball.

Our girls are just that girls. These leagues are women's league. How far you think these girls will get in a intermittent recovery run test? this is next level, fitness and mentality. This is not just about being able to play.

T&T women whip Costa Rica 4-0.
T&T Express.

Trinidad and Tobago's senior women footballers had a great end to their successful tour of Central America last week, beating Costa Rica 4-0. For the "Soca Princesses", striker Kennya "Ya Ya" Cordner netted a hat-trick, while Patrice Superville got the other goal.

Well we are way ahead of many of our Concacaf rivals in our quest for 2015 qualifying.  Canada unveiled it's 2015 logo yesterday. After some well deserved time off the Canadian's have just started to begin training leaving many of its core of the Olympic bronze to rest even more to have a deeper look at their player pool.

The announcement of adding 8 more teams to 2015 WWC & adding more spots to Concacaf (3.5 now). Trinidad see's this as their best chance to qualify. My network of friends tells me that Jamaica is talking about bring the senior team back from the dead however so far it's just talk. Guyana is also in the process of organizing it's Seniors however they too have done nothing since Cancun qualifying almost 2 years ago. The TTFF WNT program appears to be very serious about 2015 WWQ & good for them. We all need to throw our support behind our Soca Princesses. Those who are connected to big business at home in Trinidad need to get involved and sponsor the Princesses.

Go Princesses Gooooooo  :wavetowel:  :salute:  :wavetowel:

This is very good for us. I think we could squeeze in once we prepare right.
