Baron robbed of $50,000 bracelet

Story Created: Jan 31, 2013 at 10:00 PM ECT

Story Updated: Feb 1, 2013 at 6:43 AM ECT

CALYPSONIAN "The Baron" or the "Sweet Soca Man", is not singing too sweetly these days after he was robbed of his $50,000 bracelet in East Port of Spain. He says it was grabbed by a bandit whom he describes as a, "red man."

According to Besson Street Police the incident occurred around 4 p.m. on Tuesday when Timothy Watkins aged 65 of #970 Paria Main Road, Toco was driving his Nissan Frontier south along Observatory Street, Port of Spain and had stopped in traffic.

Police said his windows were down at the time when the bandit described as a five foot, three inch, light-skinned Afro-Trinidadian male walked up to him and yanked the bracelet off his right arm.

Watkins shouted at the man but he ran up a road off Observatory Street and escaped.

Watkins then drove across to the Besson Street Police Station nearby and made a report.

According to a media release sent by Watkins' publicist, "the bracelet was made in honour of his mother back in 1993 and was valued at $50,000 and he hopes the police will help in getting back this invaluable piece of jewelry and he can get the picture of the red man from his memory as he is having nightmares of his robbery."

Besson Street CID officers are continuing investigations. —Gyasi Gonzales

This is just like the video that was posted on here a year ago....some of those youths robbing ppl while they're in their cars sitting in traffic. Guess the lesson is not to drive in those places with jewelry in sight to attract any attention to your self.

Where are the police patrols?  Where are the soldiers?  Why are these areas devoid of heavy police presence?  All this 10 million for hoops bullshit..this is the worse government ever,.

Weh police have tuh do with this!! the man is ah serious bottom for #1, wearing all dat gold in ah place where ppl are extremely red eye, #2, for wearing such an expensive piece in one of the worst areas in EDR, #3, for having his window rolled down in such a crime infested area with yuh hand out the window displaying such an expensive piece, and #4, for doing all the above in heavy traffic, what ah tun tun!

he lucky somebody eh chop off he fackin hand and go wid it, rings braclet and all!

as for the police, there was never no set ah police presence in east port of spain even during the PNM era. i was told by friends that they used to have police and army patrols but it was ah serious joke.

he said that they would come by twice a day, all four of them together in a group instead of splitting up so they could cover more ground and create an element of surprise, (two soldiers and two heavily armed police officers), and they would do a pappy show walk through the streets, up the hill through the lanes and then walk right back out after 30 mins or so. they were so predictable that the criminals would time them to ah tee, and waited till they were gone to reap havoc again on the public. stueps!

Baron living in Trini?  Whether or not one should be able to drive anywhere wearing what you want, he displayed either a serious lack of comon sense or just was not thinking.

True....I still might not even take that risk unless the vehicle you're in have the darkest tint because I would not put it past dem fellas to make you stop the car and wind down your window at gun point if they glance any jewelry on you. It's survival down there and some of them have no fear, even in broad daylight.

If in THESE times in ANY part of the world, but more so in TRINIDAD (and THAT part of Trini, too), ANYBODY hadda tell Baron to use a bare minimum of common sense in how he still wanna dress to come out in the streets, especially at that age of vulnerability, then he really didn't want and doesn't deserve to keep that bracelet or any of the jewelry he like to be parading all over himself.  "We' on here making post mortem comments on the incident like if Baron is some Tourist from Switzerland whose only knowledge of Trinidad is from the images from a Trinidad Carnival publication.  steuwps!!
