A lil storm brewing. Peru has recalled a player to Lima following a protest by Ecuador. Scenario: player born in Ecuador and apparently is 25 with wife and kid there but sometime ago obtained documents deeming him U-20 eligible and Peruvian. Biometrics and the use of the same signature (although going by different names) seem to be part if his undoing ... that and the fact that an Ecuadoran official, for whom he played, recognized him when he joined his teammates in celebrating beating Brazil. It doesn't seem that Peru has used him so far in the tournament.
Story gets interesting because his alleged father on his Peruvian documents is a midfielder (from the 80s) known as Angel "Maradona" Barrios ... because he was left-footed and a Maradona look-alike. The good $$$ is on a pending criminal charge heading Mr. Barrios' way. Reports also indicate that "Maradona" has another "son" playing in Peru who is actually from Ecuador.
Never a dull moment in the global game.
