They nasty boy. Funny thing is all the IPL teams got knocked out of the tournament.

I hoping the top four IPL teams in the playoff have no Trinis in them. Doubt that will happen though.

I'm hoping the same thing too  ;D But that looks highly unlikely. ...KKR looks like they struggling a bit, too early to tell, but we'll settle for just Narine if it comes to that  ;D

So your saying that If our T&T players that are contracted to any IPL team, that qualify for the CL, the CPL franchises will have to compensate the respected IPL team if said T&T player wants to represent with his CPL team.

I want to believe that the CPL organization has ironed out this issue, if its an issue at all.

The CPL team will be the players home team ( because the CPL is affiliated with the cricket board to which the players are aligned), so they don't have to compensate the IPL for the loss. However, if , say, Ponting qualifies with his CPL team and his IPL team then the CPL team will have to compensate the IPL team if he choses to represent the CPL team in the CL.

OK, that's the key right there. Thanks for the clarification.

Spin Wizard Muttiah Muralitharan is Final Franchise Player for Caribbean Premier League.

Sri Lanka spin wizard Muttiah Muralitharan, the man with more international wickets than any other player in history, has been confirmed as the sixth and final international  franchise  player for this year’s Caribbean Premier league (CPL).

The man known universally as Murali has 1347 wickets across the Test, One-Day International (ODI) and Twenty20 International (T20I) formats in an international career spanning 20 years, and now he will line up in the inaugural franchise-based tournament that will take place in six countries in July and August.

“I am really looking forward to playing in the first ever CPL – it is going to be a fantastic spectacle for the fans and a great experience for all the players involved ” stated Murali. “I am good friends with a number of the West Indian players, especially Chris Gayle as we play together in IPL, and having the chance to play on a team with guys competing in their home countries will be fantastic for me.  I am also excited that there will be so many young West Indian players involved in the tournament and I hope to pass on some of my cricketing experiences as the tournament progresses. I can’t wait for it to get started!”

The 41 year-old, currently playing for Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Indian Premier League (IPL), slots in along with other international stars Ricky Ponting and Adam Gilchrist from Australia, New Zealand’s Ross Taylor, Pakistan T20I captain Mohammad Hafeez and Herschelle Gibbs of South Africa as confirmed big-name signings.

Also confirmed are six West Indies franchise players – Dwayne Bravo, Chris Gayle, Sunil Narine, Kieron Pollard, Darren Sammy and Marlon Samuels.

The player draft, which is set to take place on 24 May, will determine who will be playing where, with six franchises to be announced based in Antigua & Barbuda, Barbados, Guyana, Jamaica, St. Lucia and Trinidad & Tobago.

Murali’s hauls of 800 Test wickets and 534 wickets in ODIs are both marks that are unlikely ever to be surpassed and he is one of only two bowlers, along with fellow spinner Shane Warne, to have topped 1000 wickets in international cricket.

His Test haul includes 67 five-wicket hauls and 22 instances of 10 wickets in a match, and he also has 10 five-wicket hauls in ODIs.

Twenty20 International cricket arrived towards the end of his international career but he still captured 13 wickets in his 12 matches in that form of the game at a superb economy rate of 6.31 runs per over.

Murali’s outstanding control of line, length and flight and his ability to spin the ball both ways have made him a sought-after player in the shortest form of the game all over the world.

The mystery spinner has appeared not only in the IPL but also the Big Bash League in Australia, the Bangladesh Premier league, New Zealand, and county cricket in England as well as in his native Sri Lanka, and while he is yet to appear in domestic cricket in the West Indies, his record in international cricket in the Caribbean is outstanding.

In six Test matches Murali captured 37 wickets, plus another 29 in 15 ODIs. That included 23 in the 2007 ICC Cricket World Cup, when Sri Lanka lost to Australia in the final in Barbados.

Murali also played for Sri Lanka at the ICC World Twenty20 in the Caribbean in 2010, taking two wickets in two matches before bringing down the curtain on his international career the following year after Sri Lanka lost their second successive ICC Cricket World Cup final, to India in Mumbai.

A total of 90 players will be contracted to play in the CPL. Each of the six Franchise teams will be comprised of 15 players.  All teams are required to have a minimum number of local players from that their particular franchise country.  At least four of them must be under the age of 23, and teams can also field a maximum of four international players.  The remainder of the team must consist of regional and/or local players.

MICHAEL HOLDING JOINS THE CARIBBEAN PREMIER LEAGUE

“If the youngsters rub shoulders with those guys they will certainly learn a lot about cricket, not just Twenty20 cricket but cricket in general,” he said. “Youngsters will love to be able to be with those guys, be in the same squad with them, going to team meetings and listening to those people they will be playing with.”

West Indies fast bowling legend Michael Holding has thrown his weight behind the forthcoming Caribbean Premier League (CPL) on the basis that it can help develop the next generation of cricketing talent in the region, and has agreed to be the Ambassador for the CPL Development Programme.

Holding has long been known for his preference for the longer forms of the game, having been brought up and enjoyed success in both Tests and One-Day Internationals.

The Jamaican was part of Clive Lloyd’s all-conquering West Indies side of the 1970s and 1980s and took 249 Test wickets in 60 matches as well as a further 142 from 102 ODIs, and he secured an ICC Cricket World Cup-winner’s medal in 1979.

Looking forward to the inaugural CPL, which will be staged across the Caribbean in July and August, Holding – now a renowned broadcaster on the game – said he was happy to back the new project because of its commitment to help identify and develop locally produced young players.

“The CPL is looking at a development programme which they will start rolling out in January 2014, I understand,” he said. “They will have about 60 young cricketers, 10 from each of the six franchise regions, who they will put on contract and create programmes to improve their cricket. That is what I am interested in.

“It is not easy to start with Twenty20 cricket and go into Test cricket and David Warner (of Australia) is the only person who has come even close but if we can develop some young cricketers in the Caribbean, even if a lot of them are tempted to play Twenty20 cricket, then maybe we can still find one or two who are quite happy and even capable of playing Test cricket too.”

With each of the six franchises based in Antigua & Barbuda, Barbados, Guyana, Jamaica, St. Lucia and Trinidad & Tobago required to have 11 out of their 15 players qualified to play for the West Indies and with four of those needed to be under the age of 23, there is plenty of incentive for those franchises to unearth local talent.

And, as Holding observed, the introduction of the CPL will also be a means of attracting young people in the region to play cricket as their sport of choice.

“I think cricket has lost a lot of young people in the Caribbean who are thinking ‘Why bother with cricket because unless you are playing for the West Indies then there is nothing there for you,’” he said.  “The advent of the CPL means West Indian youngsters can now think to themselves ‘Hey, I can make a reasonably good living from playing cricket.’  Now there is something here in the Caribbean they can play in, they can make a reasonable living and they can go on and play cricket again.”

Holding also sees the value of the region’s best young players getting the chance to mix with some of the games greats, with six overseas icon players – Adam Gilchrist, Ricky Ponting, Ross Taylor, Mohammad Hafeez, Herschelle Gibbs and Muttiah Muralitharan – already confirmed starters.

Six top West Indies stars have also been confirmed as franchise players – Dwayne Bravo, Chris Gayle, Sunil Narine, Kieron Pollard, Darren Sammy and Marlon Samuels.

Holding said if the CPL gets arrangements right then it could play a significant role in continuing the revival of West Indies cricket that has seen Sammy’s side win six Tests in a row and secure the ICC World Twenty20 title in Sri Lanka last October, the side’s first global trophy in eight years.

“If cricket becomes accessible again, if the structures are put in place around the islands and with the CPL coming in and giving youngsters the chance to get some money in their pockets by playing the game they love, (then) more people will want to play the game,” he said.

The player draft, which is set to take place on 24 May, will determine who will be playing where among the six franchises that are soon to be announced.

The make-up of the CPL Cricket Committee has also been confirmed with former Jamaica Prime Minister The Most Honourable PJ Patterson chairing it alongside Zorol Barthley, Ian Bishop, Lance Gibbs, Conde Riley, Walter Scott, QC and Charles Wilkin, QC.

SLC seek change in Caribbean Premier League schedule

Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has asked the West Indies Cricket Board to reschedule the inaugural Caribbean Premier League (CPL), in order to avoid a scheduling clash with the Sri Lanka Premier League, SLPL director Ajit Jayasekara has said. The CPL is scheduled between July 29 and August 26, while the SLPL is penciled in for an August 10 start. SLC cannot postpone their tournament because the Champions League T20, which will feature SLPL winners in the qualifying stage, begins in mid-September.

"There is quite a big overlap there, and because we announced our tournament last year and have set that window aside, we have asked the Caribbean Premier League tournament to move their tournament up," Jayasekara said. "Those discussions haven't started yet, but we are hopeful we can work something out."

The scheduling clash was brought into focus this week after former Sri Lankan offspinner Muttiah Muralitharan signed with the CPL. Muralitharan said he has not yet decided which tournament he will prioritise. In addition to being one of the SLPL's biggest draws, Muralitharan was also the icon player for his Uthura Rudra's franchise in the inaugural tournament last year. However, as one of only six international signings, he is a major asset to the CPL as well.

Chris Gayle also has an SLPL deal for the next two years, but his contract with the Uva Next franchise is fitted with an escape clause, and he is almost certain to forego the SLPL to play in his home board's Twenty20 tournament. In addition to player unavailability, the presence of a competing Twenty20 league undermines SLPL's global broadcast value as well.

Jayasekara said SLPL's organisers were in discussions with several new foreign players, and will be announcing new signings in the months to come. Last year's tournament was played at only two venues - Colombo and Kandy - but the 2013 tournament is likely include more venues, Jayasekara said.

"We only had one production crew last time, but we have two this year, so that gives us more options. We are looking at Hambantota, Galle, Moratuwa and Dambulla as venues as well."

The Uva Next franchise won 2012's SLPL but was unable to move ahead of the qualifying stage of the Champions League T20 in South Africa. The tournament itself was mired in a series of controversies, including late player payments, but turned a minor profit for SLC.

Trinidad hosting the final.

CPL Announces Tournament Schedule

The much-anticipated schedule for the inaugural Caribbean Premier League (CPL) tournament has been announced by CPL organisers, and as expected, matches will be played in six franchise countries – Antigua & Barbuda, Barbados, Guyana, Jamaica, St. Lucia and Trinidad & Tobago - in the months of July and August.

Kicking off in Barbados on Tuesday, 30 July with an opening ceremony followed by a Barbados vs St Lucia match, games will be played on various days throughout the four week period.  There will be a three-day break before the two semi-finals, the final match and the closing ceremony which will take place in Trinidad & Tobago on Saturday, 24 August.  Sundays through the tournament will feature a doubleheader with matches taking place at 3pm and 7:30pm.

CPL organisers emphasised that in putting together the schedule, the goal was to make it as fair as possible for the franchise countries but also ensure that there would be many exciting games between neighbouring and rival countries.  In addition, the fixtures had to work logistically in terms of elements such as travel for the teams and CPL staff and the transfer of TV equipment and crew from venue to venue.  The result is a schedule that is workable and one where all teams will play three home games, three away games and one game in a neutral franchise country, for example Antigua vs. Jamaica in Guyana.

The CPL team is pleased to get the fixtures out in just under three months in advance, giving both local fans and prospective tourists the chance to plan their trips to and around the Caribbean to witness what is expected to be the biggest and most exciting sporting event in the region.

The 2014 and 2015 CPL tournaments will take place from 5 July to 10 August and 21 June to 26 July respectively

Next on the CPL agenda is the announcement of details for the players draft event, confirmation of which teams the franchise players will be assigned to and many more exciting elements of the tournament.

CPL ANTHEM INTERPRETS THE VIBE AND PULSE OF THE CARIBBEAN

MP3 FILE
http://cplt20.com/sites/default/files/audio/How_We_Play_Konshens_Kes_CPL%20Anthem.mp3

On being a part of the official CPL anthem, Konshens expressed his excitement, “It feels good to be a part of anything Caribbean, especially cricket which is such a big part of our West Indian culture, and it’s a great achievement for me.”

Caribbean Premier League today launched their official Anthem: How We Play!, a dance song which will have T20 cricket fans jumping, Caribbean style.

How We Play!, written and produced by Trinidad’s Marlon Chen of MRI and Precision Productions, features two of the region's hottest artists‚ Kes (Trinidad & Tobago) and Konshens (Jamaica), like you've never heard them before.  The innovative mix is sure to spawn a new genre Chen calls "Caribbean Dance"— a mix of Soca, Dancehall and Techno music. With How We Play!, Chen combines the best elements of each genre and the result will inevitably make you want to get up and dance.

CPL CEO, Damien O’Donohoe explains the concept for the CPL anthem: “When it comes to West Indies cricket, everyone rallies round. Whether it’s on the pitch, in the stands, on the stage or watching TV and the Caribbean Premier League will take the game to a whole new level. It’s much more than a sport, it’s an amazing party experience where everyone comes to play, and How We Play! embodies that.”

Cricket fans will experience the energy and vibe of Caribbean cricket when Kes sings: “Get up and unite for your team, we’ll give the best we’ve got.  Hands up, right up and play hard.  We’ll take it to the top, it’s how we play”.

And fans will feel the pulse and soul of what cricket means to West Indians when Konshens chants:  “Every ball, Every bat, Every bleach (bleachers), Every pad, Every bail, Every wicket, Every stump! Ah the heart and soul and passion ah the culture, Caribbean blood when people come out all nation for the team in ah unification; when the stadium ram bleacher to grand stand ah the meaning of beautification.”

On being a part of the official CPL anthem, Konshens expressed his excitement, “It feels good to be a part of anything Caribbean, especially cricket which is such a big part of our West Indian culture, and it’s a great achievement for me.”

Fans will be able to download the CPL Anthem, How we Play! From the official site http://www.cplt20.com, and Caribbean Premiere League’s official sponsor, Digicel, will make the track available on Digi Tones.

The first ever Caribbean Premiere League begins on Tuesday July 30 with 24 matches played across 6 Caribbean countries: Antigua & Barbuda, Barbados, Guyana, Jamaica, St. Lucia and Trinidad & Tobago.

lol.. some pace and good consistent bounce
QPO and Guyana have really been slow and low, which tends to produce lower scoring matches. And from the last set of regional T20s we saw how poor de cricket looked on those types of wickets.

Missing the final

I now watching this. That TT team will have a totally new look, things rel competitive now. It will be tough to win this trophy. Everybody will have pretty much a bomb squad. Hopefully the 7 locals we pick up to scratch.

Squad composition

Each Squad will be allowed a maximum of 15 players. Of these 15 players two will be automatically assigned by CPL.

Playing Squad of 15 will consist of:

One (1) West Indies Franchise Player (pre-selected)
One (1) Overseas Franchise Player (pre-selected)
Four (4) Elite Players (West Indian & Overseas)
Seven (7) Eligible Players
Two (2) Under 23 Players.

Franchise Player – each team will have 1 West Indies and 1 Overseas Franchise player selected from the top T20 players and pre-assigned to a team

Elite Player – the next top ranked players after the franchise players who are entered into Pool A (there will be both West Indian and Overseas Elite Players)

Eligible Player - must have played either regional cricket (for their national or country team) within the last two years in order to be eligible to go into either Pool A or Pool B for the draft OR they must have played for the country’s Senior Team or A Team within the same time period of the last two years.

Under 23 Player – must be under 23 years of age before September 1st 2013

I was all ready to come and have a nice time with TT and the TT crowds but seeing that TT is without Narine and Pollard I have lost all interest.I dont understand the reasoning in trying to handicap TT while making the other teams stronger. We may still lose some of the other players and something isn't right,if we were handicapping teams over the last few years in our regional tournament then I could accept this rubbish that is taking place.I also find it strange that not one Indian player has been recruited, are these people dumb or something,India's population 1 billion and TV viewing would have been massive with 2 or 3 Indians.

This tournament isnt about Trinidad alyuh need to get over it, alyuh sounding like rel sour grapes boy. It is now a club format. Nobody is deliberately trying to handicap anybody. Jamaica has also lost Samuels. We have enough players to choose from. Plus we are allowed another 3 international players to choose in the draft. Everybody will be on equal footing for once, lets really see how good Trinidad talent is.

Even if Pollard and Narine were not franchise players, they would still be up for grabs just like all the other teams players in the draft pool. There isn't a conspiracy like some would like to think.

As for India, they dont allow their players to participate in other T20 tournaments, only IPL. Take that up with the Indian cricket board.
