« on: March 25, 2013, 08:41:27 AM »
Since Y2K All Stars, Phase II and Exodus have been head and shoulders above the rest of bands in Panorama. Just look at there records from 2000 to now.

2. 2001. 2003. 2004. 2006. 2008. 2013
3. 2009. 2010.

Phase II

1. 2005. 2006. 2008. 2013.
2. 2002. 2007. 2009. 2010. 2012.
3. 2000. 2003. 2004.

Exodus

1. 2001. 2003. 2004
2. 2000. 2005. 2011
3. 2002. 2007. 2008

The only other bands to finish in the top three since Y2K are

Silver Stars

1. 2009. 2010
3. 2011. 2012

Despers

1. 2000
3. 2001. 2005

Starlift

3. 2013.

What are these bands doing different or better than other bands that make them so dominant?

What are these bands doing different or better than other bands that make them so dominant?

Panorama success formula:

Great tuner = great sounding pans
Excellent players
A settled and consistent arranger that PROPERLY UNDERSTANDS AND IMPLEMENTS the judging criteria of the music being offered.

Many bands have the first 2 criteria.  The 3rd one is the most subjective and hardest to obtain and the advantage here usually goes to the MOST EXPERIENCED practicioners.

SOME arrangers don't necessarily care about winning per se but are more interested in putting out what they deem to be "GOOD MUSIC".  They stick to their principles and are uncompromising in their arrangements.

Others are formulaic and essentially give the judges the familiar and what they usually want to hear.

Still others do a hybrid of these 2 approaches.....stick to the criteria while still retaining their originality & creativity.

No surprise that the 3 top bands are who they are.
