Based on the heat draws and his current form, the semi-final coming up looks to be the end of the road for RT. He will have to summon a sub-10 run to get in. That 10.02 that got him into the final last year will not be enough.

Trying to understand the seeding for the men's 400m heats. One would have expected based on season bests that the lane draws would be fairer - e.g. Lendore in lane 8; Solomon in lane 1? Yet men with 47 and 48 second SBs in lanes 4 and 5.

http://www.iaaf.org/competitions/iaaf-world-championships/14th-iaaf-world-championships-4873/results/men/400-metres/heats/startlist#resultheader

First round lane draws are random.

As expected, Richard is gone. He needs to get his business sorted out and come back refocused next year.

next year ???  how much longer does he have in the sport?   he should be at his peak ..... running sub 10 constantly but every year he seem to be getting slower  look at nesta carter and gatlin they could go another 2 gears

I wonder which will be the performance of these championships.
So far it's been ho hum for me.
Maybe a world record in the Women's 100m hurdles from Brianna Rollins, a sub-19 from Bolt (not likely), or a surprise 4x400m victory for T&T (it could happen).

Kirani James advances comfortably to the semi-final of the 400m at the IAAF World Championships in Athletics in Moscow on Sunday August 11, 2013. James, in speaking to reporters, said that every athlete is at the World Championships for a reason, a reason he knows well.

Got to admire how Kirani speaks in his interviews!
He is always sounds humble, very intelligent, eloquent and well spoken!

Featuring Four Jamaicans, Two USA & Zero Trinis!!!

It's now safe to say that our top T&T 100m men are lagging behind the top 8-10 sprinters in the world.
On another note I believe Kim Collins could have made the Final if he was allowed to run by his St Kitts athletics federation.

Let’s see how our Men's 4x100m Relay Team will do. I think they could/should make the final but for them to medal will need all our sprinters to raise their game in the final in addition to some flawless baton exchanges. Let’s see if they can make up there for their disappointing individual performances.

For those who missed the athletics action on Sunday there is a recap of the morning session on BBC iPlayer at this link: http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b038kzx9/Athletics_World_Championships_2013_Day_2_Part_1/

Athletics: World Championships - 2013 - Day 2, Part 1

Jonathan Edwards introduces coverage of the morning session of day two of the World Championships from Moscow.

Reigning world 1500m silver medallist Hannah England begins her quest for another global medal in Russia. England, a surprise medallist two years ago, runs in the first round, plus fellow Brits Nigel Levine and Asha Philip feature in the men's 400m and women's 100m heats respectively.

And here is the link for the BBC iPlayer playback of the afternoon session:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b038kzxc/Athletics_World_Championships_2013_Day_2_Part_2/
There is a nice photo of Sorrillo vs Bolt on the front photo of the BBC iPlayer.

Athletics: World Championships - 2013 - Day 2, Part 2

Gabby Logan presents coverage of the second day of the World Championships as six-time Olympic champion Usain Bolt goes for 100m gold in Russia.

The Jamaican was disqualified for a false start in the last World Championship 100m final in South Korea and will be eager to make amends in Moscow. Great Britain have not won a medal in this event for 10 years but James Dasaolu propelled himself into contention by running 9.91 seconds at the British Championships in July.

Another British medal hopeful is World Indoor Championship bronze medallist Shara Proctor in the women's long jump. The action also features the finals of the women's discus and 10,000m, plus the men's 20km race walk and the conclusion of the men's decathlon.

Analysis comes from four-time Olympic gold medallist Michael Johnson, marathon world record holder Paula Radcliffe and former 110m hurdles world record holder Colin Jackson.
