Just imagine how sad Kelly-Ann feels right now knowing she could have won at least a silver medal today and this is what she works for.
An athlete’s career is relatively short when they have their window of opportunity to stamp their name in the history books at major champs.

Let's hope Kelly-Ann can get to the root of the positive drug test and can hopefully clear her name and come back even stronger to make up for missing out on these champs.

Long jump rounds took their toll. Is Blessing going to be the next Asafa? I'm hurting for Kelly though seriously.

Jehue is a definite medal contender but I just checked the Startlist for the Final on Thursday and they've put him in lane 6, not the best lane.
http://www.iaaf.org/competitions/iaaf-world-championships/14th-iaaf-world-championships-4873/results/men/400-metres-hurdles/final/startlist#resultheader

It's not going to be easy and Jehue may need to run a new PB to win the gold and will definitely have to go sub 48 to medal.

Let's all cross our fingers for him and wish Jehue luck this Thursday.

400m finals  what  happened  to kirani I now watching the results
I believe Kirani burnt himself out trying to stay with LaShawn Merritt for the first 200m as LaShawn Merritt is a much faster 200m sprinter.
LaShawn Merritt basically ran the much clever strategic race base on his own abilities and Kirani should have ignored LaShawn Merritt and run his own race.

Report: Men’s 400m final – Moscow 2013
13 AUG 2013ReportMoscow, Russia

All season the men’s 400m had loomed as a two-man race: Kirani James vs LaShawn Merritt.

After Monday night’s semi-finals, we saw other possibilities. Yousef Ahmed Masrahi thrust himself into contention with a Saudi Arabian record in one semi. World junior champion and Olympic silver medallist Luguelin Santos charged home to almost beat James in another.

What we didn’t see coming was a one-man race. That’s what LaShawn Merritt turned the final into – blazing out hard, holding on strongly, blowing everyone else away.

When it was over, Merritt had won in 43.74, a personal best, to add a third global title to his Beijing Olympic and Berlin World titles. His winning margin over team-mate Tony McQuay was 0.66 seconds. Only Michael Johnson – when he set his World record of 43.18 in Seville in 1999 and beat Sanderlei Parrela by 1.11, and in beating Butch Reynolds by 0.83 in Gothenburg four years earlier – has won a men’s World Championships 400m final by bigger margins.

Only Johnson (three times) and Jeremy Wariner (43.45 in Osaka in 2007) have won a World 400m title in a faster time.

Santos showed his form in the semis was no mirage, taking the bronze in 44.52. Again he came home hard, but he was like a man chasing a bus he has no hope of catching.

Jonathan Borlee missed the bronze medal by just two hundredths of a second, finishing fourth in 44.54 while James faded from what appeared a challenging position as they entered the final straight to seventh place in 44.99.

Masrahi, who had looked so threatening in the semi-finals, was one place higher in 44.97.

James must have thought he had a favourable draw when he went to his blocks in lane five with Merritt one to his outside. He could key off his strongest rival and then use his biggest strength – his strength – down the final straight.

That’s the way it looked as if it would play out through the first 200m and round the bend. Merritt had clearly started fast, going through Santos in lane seven half-way down the back straight. But James was tracking him and looked comfortable enough.

Merritt thundered on to the bend; still James was there. As they straightened, perhaps the gap was a metre too wide for comfort, but hadn’t James out-run Merritt down the final straight in Daegu two years ago to win his first World Championships gold medal, 44.60 to 44.63?

But it quickly became apparent there was nothing in James’ tank. As he faded 70 metres from the line, McQuay, Santos and Borlee flashed past to fight out the minor medals. There was no catching Merritt now.

McQuay got the silver in 44.40, a personal best, while Santos just edged Borlee for the bronze, 44.52 to 44.54.

Pavel Maslak and Masrahi also pushed past the spent James in the final metres.

The winner broke 44 seconds, the next six were under 45, while eighth and last went to Brazil’s Anderson Henriques, who reduced his previous best in two slices to 44.95 here in the semi-finals, but could only find 45.03 in the final.

So for all but James, there was consolation here in either personal bests, season’s best or national records. For James, well, he has his World and Olympic titles and, at the tender age of 20, almost an athletic lifetime to bounce back. No doubt he will.

Those of us who thought it was going to be a two-horse race though – well LaShawn Merritt showed us all up for mugs.

Len Johnson for the IAAF

Kirani just had an off night.

The whole 'chasing Lashawn too early made him lose' reasoning makes no sense. Kirani's a 43.9 guy THIS YEAR, so that pace is not beyond him! He was in the same position in '11 and ran Merritt down, and it's not like he can let Lashawn get away. His one loss this year was when he did that (at Prefontaine).

He has won everything in sight for years, one bad horrendous night is all that happened. Lord knows I have been there.

Soca pro, what makes you think lane 6 is a bad draw??? Many a 400m/400mH medallist have come from that lane.

Ditto Ato's comments on Kirani.

Normally lanes 4 & 5 are viewed as the best lanes to run in.
If Jehue is happy with his lane 6 draw then I am happy with it also as he won his semi and deserves a good lane as a result.

A question, do we give Lalonde Gordon a bligh from the 4x400m heats considering he is running the 200m?

Here is what his schedule will look like if he runs all rounds of both events.

Thursday:4x400m heats
Friday:200m heats in the morning, 200m semis in the early evening and then 4x400m final 2 hours after
Saturday: 200m final at night

This schedule is not looking too good for him or us. If he makes the 200m final, he will be spent and assuming that we are in the 400m final, he will be also spent and could end up running a sub-par leg for us.

Decisions, decisions, decisions....

Semi-finalist winners are automatically and randomly drawn into lanes 4-6. The IAAF wouldn't choose those lanes for the winners unless they were good...

Let's see, who are our 4x400m relay options.
We have:-
Gordon, Lalonde        4x400 Metres Relay,200 Metres
Gordon, Jehue           4x400 Metres Relay,400 Metres Hurdles
Cedenio, Machel        4x400 Metres Relay
Lendore, Deon           4x400 Metres Relay,400 Metres
Quow, Renny             4x400 Metres Relay
Solomon, Jarrin          4x400 Metres Relay,400 Metres

I believe the fellas highlighted in red can more than carry our team into the final and we can still medal without Lalonde's or Jehue's help.

I say let both of the Gordons concentrate on their individual events and medal in them if they can while our our 4x400m men's relay team should run with relatively fresh legs and can hopefully medal there as well.

Guys I believe this track has 9 lanes and lane 1 is open. therefore lanes 5 and 6 are the prime lanes. If it is an 8 lane tack then 4 and 5 would be prime.

We can go with that quartet in red for the prelims but Jehue or Lalonde HAVE to come in for the final. Jehue gets the nod for now as he will have already ran the 400mH final the night before and will have nothing else to do. But of course if Lalonde does not make the final then in he goes.
