Molino to spearhead T&T's attack versus Panama.
By Shaun Fuentes (TTFA)

Trinidad and Tobago Head Coach Stephen Hart today announced his 22-man squad for next Friday’s friendly international with Panama at the Ato Boldon Stadium.

Orlando City midfielder Kevin Molino will spearhead the T&T attack Belgium-based duo Khaleem Hyland and Sheldon Bateau and English-based defender Justin Hoyte completing the slate of overseas-based players in the squad. Molino has been sharp for Orlando in the early parts of the MLS season and continues to earn rave reviews on his partnership with Brazilian Kaka.

Hart has included  ten uncapped home-based professionals in his final selection. Among them are National Under 20 captain Shannon Gomez and his teammates from the recent Under 20 team Neveal Hackshaw and Aikim Andrews.

Also earning their first call ups to the Senior Men’s Team are former Under 20 team defender Uriah Bentick of Central FC and W Connection’s Jomal Williams as well as Johan Peltier of San Juan Jabloteh.

The other newcomers include Central FC’s Akeem Benjamin and Jamal Jack and San Juan Jabloteh’s Tyrone Charles and North East Stars’ Dwayne James.

The two goalkeepers are regulars Jan Michael Williams and Marvin Phillip. Central FC forward Willis Plaza has earned a recall while his club teammate Ataullah Guerra has also been included.

Hart emphasized that the squad selection was based on him having the opportunity to see more of the home-based pros against quality international opposition.

“This is my first opportunity to evaluate many of these players, whom through their play for their respective clubs  deserve the opportunity to participate and fight for selection on the National Team,” Hart told TTFA Media.

“Panama has announced a full squad for this game, with many players who played in the Gold Cup final in 2013 and 2014 World Cup qualifiers. I am very pleased and excited about this, for it will be the ideal game to evaluate potential players for the Gold Cup roster in July,” Hart added.

Panama have emerged as one of the leading teams in the CONCACAF region in recent times. They  finished runners-up in the 2005 Gold Cup and 2013 Gold Cup. Panama reached the fourth round for the 2006 World Cup CONCACAF qualifications.

They also advanced to final round for the 2014 World Cup qualifications. At their last qualification match against the USA, they were about 90 seconds away from beating the United States and advancing but conceded two goals in stoppage time and were eliminated from qualification for the 2014 World Cup.

Panama’s head coach Hernan Dario Gomez has selected a full strength team for the encounter.

Among the players called up include German-based midfielder Armando Cooper of FC St Pauli, veteran forward Luis Tejada of Peruvian club Juan Aurich who is the team’s leading goalscorer with 37 goals in 79 matches, Colombian-based defender Harold Cummings, FC Dallas forward Blas Perez, LA Galaxy goalkeeper Jaime Penedo and another experienced  defender Luis Henriquez of Polish club Lech Poznan. The Panama team comprised players based in Germany, Poland, Hungary Mexico, USA, Peru, Uruguay, Colombia, Venezuela, Guatemala, Costa Rica and Panama.

Tickets for the T&T versus Panama encounter cost $100 and are available at Fan Club Movietowne (POS, Trincity Mall, Gulf City Mall), All Out Restaurant (QP Oval), Heritage Sports Tobago, Ramsingh's Sportsworld, Couva, Econo Supermart and Kenny's Sports Shops.

Surprised not to see Alvin Jones, Jerrel Britto, and Leston Paul in the mix. We just don't play enough games to really assess our player pool.

Hyland and Hoyte need games and they are good players once fit, so I guess seeing that they dont get run for they club, they go get some playing time, we need depth for de GC.

Good move by Hart, but I hope both of them get clubs they play regular for soon.

Woulda been nice to see players like Nicholas Walker, Julius James, Greg Ranjitsingh, Corbin, Levi Garcia, Elton John and Brent Sam.

Wonder if Hart ever touch base with Ryan Inniss, Nick DeLeon, Hallam Hope and Chris Regis?

Now is de time to see some new talent, even if we lose.

We didn't need Jan-Michael Williams, Sheldon Bateau, Marvin Phillip and Kevin Molino, we already know what they can do.

Alvin Jones, Jerrel Britto, Sean DeSilva and Leston Paul playing decent to.

Decent team Hartie...

I have a few family going to this game, have to buy tickets now.

Come fellas, Touches, Patriot BM, where allyuh?

A few more games before June so we can see a few more options would be ideal.

If we could get de best out of Jomal we could have a decent player here, but he head lil off, he need to mature.

Tyrone, Arcia, Andrews and James is good players to.

I am glad to see so many local players getting the opportunity to represent. I strongly feel that it would be advantageous to build a cohesive core with the local players then it's easy to factor in  the overseas pros.

I  don't know what's the coach's overall Strategy but it's a good signal.

What I do know  is that the coach has a big job at hand.. I don't know what kind of help he has, but it seems to me that he needs lots of expert help.

Surprised Leston Paul is not in the mix..thought for sure he would be our 3rd choice behind Hyland and Boucaud with George 4th choice but glad to see Hackshaw and the highly rated Jomal Williams get a chance to impress, we need quality in depth vs quantity in depth.

Would have loved to see Corbin in the squad and Levi Garcia too, I hope they are invited to train with the team as that week with the pro's can be very beneficial and a good chance to gauge their readiness for that level and training habits.

Arcia from W.Connection looked really good as a number 10 when I saw them vs Central FC a while back but recently he played as a lone striker in the 0-0 league game vs Central and he was quiet.

Will be interesting to see who gets the nod at #10 behind the main striker...Molino is the clear favourite but I would not be surprised to see him start off the left or right with Guerra behind Plaza and Winchester on the other wing.

Very very interesting selections by Hart. He obviously wants to see particular players more closely. Bentick is solid but his selection possibly also shows a dearth of local based left back options.

Dwayne James is a polished bruiser but he does have the ability to get up and down the park.

Peltier's selection is possibly the most puzzling. He has not been a regular starter for Jabloteh in 2015 but maybe Hart sees something he can work with.

Leston Paul struggled with injuries and form this season and is only now around full fitness so maybe he needs more time. Completely surprised by Kaydion Gabriel's omission though. He has arguably been Central's best and most consistent player for the entire season. It shows that in a squad as big as Central's, that he has made the most appearances.

Levi and Corbin have hardly kicked a competitive ball since the U20 so never saw them getting anywhere close to the squad. Glad for Jack and Arcia. Consistent performers for the past 2 seasons. Both very dynamic.

I saw his last game v NE Stars and Johan Peltier was clearly the best attacking player for Jabloteh and maybe overall in this game, they could not contain him, he hit the post twice, I think, did everything right just could not score.

I say he is worth a shot.
