London 2012 Olympic Games Javelin champion Keshorn Walcott showed that he has wintered well when the Trinidad and Tobago athlete threw 84.39m on home soil at the TnT Elite Twilight Games in Port of Spain on Friday (3).

In his first outing since his Olympic triumph last August last year, Walcott satisfied his adoring fans in the Hasely Crawford Stadium with a big first round effort. The throw was just 19cm short of the 84.58m national record that he had established in London, and the second best throw of his life.

Having just turned 20 last month and so having his first competition in the senior ranks after also capturing a gold medal at the IAAF World Junior Championships last summer, Walcott had fouls in the next two rounds and passed his final three attempts.

Another well received local victory went to Carifta Games junior men’s champion Machel Cedenio, who is still only 17,  who won the men's 400mg in 45.99, which is just 0.06 outside his recent personal best. USA’s Marcus Boyd was second in 46.08.

Trinidad and Tobago’s Domonique Williams emerged victorious in the women's 400m, overtaking USA’s Stacy Anne Smith close to the line to win in a personal best 53.89 with the American second in 54.03.

Mikel Thomas produced an impressive run in the men's 110m hurdles, winning in 13.46 seconds. The Trinidad and Tobago hurdler ran a personal best of 13.39 in Gainesville, Florida, two weeks ago

In the women’s shot put, Trinidad’s 2011 Pan American Games silver medallist Cleopatra Borel got the better of her Cuban rival, Yaniuvis Lopez, producing her winning effort of 17.75m in the very first round of the competition while Lopez could only reach 17.40m.

However, there was a Cuban victory in the men’s discus as Jorge Fernandez, the 2011 Pan American Games champion, gave a classy display to reach 63.04m.

Walcott’s training intensifies
Monday, June 24 2013

OLYMPIC Gold medallist Keshorn Walcott resumed training ahead of the IAAF World Track and Field Championship in Moscow, Russia in August and has intensified his preparations, his manager Sean Roach said yesterday.

Walcott pulled out of the Sagicor National Championships that was held at the Hasely Crawford Stadium at the weekend and he got another reason to stay out of action after he was involved in a three car accident on Saturday on Wrightson Road, Port-of-Spain.

Yesterday Roach confirmed that there were no serious injuries to the Olympic javeler after the Kia Sportage SUV he was driving was hit from behind, pushing it on to another vehicle in front of him.

Walcott had been on his way to practice at the stadium when the accident occurred.

Roach explained that while there were no injuries to the athlete, he was still examined by his physiotherapist before starting his training. Walcott’s preparation has since gone into over drive as the Toco resident attempt to rebound from a number of unfavourable performances over the past two months.
De higher a monkey climbs is de less his ass is on de line, if he works for FIFA that is! ;-)
