Anybody does watch ESPN 30 for 30?
« on: June 26, 2013, 08:34:05 PM »
Last night I watched the 30 for 30 on the 1984 Colombia football team and the tragedy of Andres Escobar.

Tears come to meh eye.  2 hours of must see TV.

That team was BRILLIANT.  They reached some epic heights.....and some abysmal lows.

If you get a chance....check it out.  Many lessons to learn....not just about football.

Yeah we talk about the series over in the Entertainment Forum.  Pacho had a featured role in this one "The Two Escobars" (Pablo and Andres).

Many great ones... including one on Len Bias' death from a cocaine overdose right as he was poised to be a millionaire; "The U" about the University of Miami (American) football teams in the late 80s and 90s, one about Allen Iverson and his demons etc.  But the other one that hit me hard was "Once Were Brothers", about Vlade Divac (Serb) and Drazen Petrovic (Croat) who were best of friends and stars on an emerging Yugoslavian basketball team.  Both the team and their friendship crumbled in the wake of the dissolution of Yugoslavia into Serbia, Croatia, Boznia and Herzegovina, Slovenia, Montenegro, etc.  Divac and Petrovic fallout and never got a chance to reconcile because Petrovic end up getting killed in an accident on the autobahn... and in the film Divac tries to go undercover in croatia (they coulda kill him on the streets for being Serbian) to make peace with his former best friend's family.  Powerful stuff.

Yea I remember we spoke about on another thread about a year or 2 ago....it was a damn good episode, Maturana was featured a lot throughout the clip.

On the real though, ESPN 30 for 30 typically has some touching stories about athletes.

Yeah Bakes & soccerman. Some of the best sports programming out there. And not JUST about sports as evidenced by the Colombia episode.  Plenty social implications too.

The one about the number of pro athletes that bankrupt now was illuminating as well.
