Newsday 24/07/13
AN autopsy performed on the body on La Brea footballer Jabari Rougier, 21, confirmed that he died as a result of the head injuries consistent with a fall.
Rougier, nephew of former Trinidad and Tobago footballer Anthony Rougier, died on Sunday at about 11.30 pm at hospital, one day after he collided with a goalkeeper during a football match. Rougier, of Sobo Village in La Brea, was a midfielder and a former student of St Benedict’s College in La Romaine.
The autopsy performed by pathologist Dr Herbert Daisley at the mortuary of the San Fernando General Hospital stated that the footballer’s death was due to a left cerebellar lobe contusion with raised pressure due to an accidental fall.
According to reports Rougier was playing football with a group of men when he collided with the goalkeeper. He fell to the ground and began complaining of excruciating pains. Rougier, was rushed to the Point Fortin Area Hospital and then transferred to the San Fernando General Hospital.
Rougier is said to be a former player with the now defunct FC SouthEnd. At the family’s home yesterday in La Brea, a male relative said he was not in a “frame of mind” to talk about the incident and declined to give any further comments.
Funeral arrangements are being made.
