:bs: talk. This has been the excuse for a long time. Forget the money part cause I agree they don't give them much money. These guys (especially Shabazz) make they bed. I won't go into all that but, stop with the talk that these guys are trying they best. Not so. They still pick players through favoritism.

On the senior women's team we may not see our best player fro a while cause she dare challenge Shabazz and they on the manner in which they handle players.

Jamaica defeats T&T U-20 women 2-0.

Honeghan, Thomas spur Girlz to 2-0 win.
By Livingston Scott (Jamaica Observer).

Jamaica's Under-20 female footballers, through second-half goals from Semone Honeghan and Teashian Thomas, defeated Trinidad & Tobago 2-0 at Brancourt in Clarendon for their consecutive win over the twin-island republic in their three-match practice series on Friday.

Honeghan struck four minutes after the half-time break and Thomas netted nine minutes later to give the hosts a comfortable victory.

The teams will square off in the final game of the series at Drax Hall today, starting at 3:00 pm.

Coach Vin Blaine, who is preparing the team for its first-round CONCACAF World Cup Qualifiers later this month, said had they taken their chances in the first half it could have been a much easier match.

"We started out good but we did not capitalise on some easy chances we got and that could have turnd the game early. In the second half we came out more purposeful and got the two goals and the win, which is important to us," he said.

"... We're using these games to correct some of the things that we're doing wrong. I saw some things in this game... so we're going to work on them in training," he added.

The Young Girlz took a while to get into their stride but came close to scoring through Honeghan, Thomas and Nugene Nugent.

However, the Trinidadians almost made them pay for those misses when Karen Forbes' released Afiya Matthias with a floated ball over the defence, but goalkeeper Sashagay Spence was quick off her line to deny the midfielder.

Four minutes after the interval, the Jamaicans took the lead when Thomas got by a defender on the right and delivered a pin-point cross from Honeghan, who planted a firm header past Kimika Forbes in goal.

Honeghan, the topscorer in the recently-concluded Schoolgirl League, returned the favour to strike partner Thomas, in the 58th minute.

After leaving three defenders in her wake on the left to make her way inside the six-yard box, the speedy forward passed to Thomas who turned the opposing defence before firing a low shot past Forbes.

The visitors made a few threatening moves afterwards, but their finishing failed to trouble Spence in goal.

Thomas almost added another minutes before the end, but she could not direct Monique Pryce's cross on target from 12 yards.

Trinidadian coach Jamaal Shabazz said it was an improved performance by his team and the hosts should expect a tougher match today in St Ann.

"I think this was a much closer game than the last one we played. We had our chances to go ahead but we didn't score. I thought Jamaica scored two well-taken goals... but I thought our girls were always in the game, unlike the last match, and that's a big improvement for our team.

"So I think Jamaica must be worried because we seem to be closing in on them," he said.
The real measure of a man's character is what he would do if he knew he would never be found out.

I can't remember a T&T women's team trying to play catch up to JA. Jamal and them does be to hypocritical and convenient. We suppose to be resting real licks on them all the time.

All these years he coaching the women's team and can't get it right.

Women U-20 tourney in St. Lucia
« Reply #76 on: August 24, 2009, 12:21:23 PM »
Women’s Under-20 Team.
By: David Pascal (St. Lucia Star).

When it comes to preparing for the Caribbean Football Union (CFU) World Under-20 Group stage women’s football tournament which is being staged here next month, the St Lucia Football Association (SLFA) realize time is quickly running out.

With that in mind, the SLFA held a press conference on Thursday morning to provide an update on how plans are progressing with the three team tournament taking place September 23, 25 and 27 at George Odlum Stadium. The tournament has St Lucia, Trinidad & Tobago and United States Virgin Islands (USVI) playing each other, is one of the qualifying stages for the FIFA Under-20 World Cup being staged in 2010.

President of the SLFA, Patrick Mathurin, pointed out that St Lucia opted to host the tournament as a cheaper option, than participating in a home and away knockout tournament which was originally proposed by the CFU.

In giving way to the almighty buck, Mathurin said: “It is important to host the tournament as it would raise the profile of women’s football in St Lucia and expose our young women to a viable option for healthy living through sports.”

The estimated cost of St Lucia hosting the tournament is between EC$180,000 and EC$200,000. CFU will be paying the fees for all match officials and supply match balls which amounts to EC$20,000. Mathurin is counting on the St Lucian public coming out in large numbers to support the young women. The ticket cost for each game is $15, however there are season tickets available for all three games at the low cost of $25.00. There are also special rates for female teams currently playing in St Lucia’s National Women’s Tournament and there is also a special package for schools that have players on the Women’s Under 20 National Team.

St Lucia hopes to be more than just charitable hosts and so far have spent over EC$50,000 on team preparation. The Under-20 side is currently playing in the National Women’s Tournament, having won five games and drawing another.

While the competition against local teams does serve a purpose, ideally the Under-20 side would be better off having a few friendly games against opponents overseas. Mathurin indicated that a tour was being planned to Martinique and possibly another island but things did not turn out as planned.

During a question and answer session, Mathurin acknowledged that the SLFA is late in preparation when it comes to the world qualifier. He pointed out that one of their targets is schools and when they reopen in September the SLFA will step up the publicity.

Date of Games:

September 23, St Lucia vs USVI
September 25, Trinidad & Tobago vs USVI
September 27, St Lucia vs Trinidad & Tobago.

All games take place at the George Odlum Stadium at 4pm.

St Lucia no longer hosting CFU Women’s Qualifier
« Reply #77 on: September 17, 2009, 06:56:58 PM »
St Lucia no longer hosting CFU Women’s Qualifier.
By: David Pascal (St. Lucia Star).

The St Lucia Football Association (SLFA) is no longer exploring the possibility of an alternative venue and date change for the Caribbean Football Union (CFU) Under-20 Women’s Qualifier, which was scheduled for George Odlum Stadium later this month. That’s because a release on the CONCACAF signals newsletter indicated that the tournament involving St Lucia, United States Virgin Islands (USVI) and Trinidad and Tobago has been shifted.

The competition which was schedule to take place in St Lucia on September 23, 25, and 27 will now take place in the USVI and Marvin Lee Stadium in Macoya, Trinidad from September 29 to October 7.

President of the SLFA, Patrick Mathurin, informed CONCACAF of the dilemma facing the SLFA. He proposed playing the games at another venue. Not as easy as it sounds, with various renovation works set to take place at various playing fields including Mindoo Phillip Park.

Mathurin pointed out that last week he received a letter from Sports St Lucia Inc, that Mindoo Phillip Park, which is in a deplorable state, would not be available. However, he pleaded with the authorities to allow the SLFA to use the venue even if it means pushing back the tournament by a week or two to ensure the work is done. Obviously his plea fell on deaf ears.

The change in venue leaves the cashed strapped SLFA in a rather precarious position. At a press conference on August 20, Mathurin pointed out that St Lucia opted to host the three team tournament, as a cheaper option than participating in a home and away knockout tournament which was originally proposed by the CFU.

He estimated the cost of St Lucia hosting the tournament to be somewhere between EC$180,000 to EC$200,000. Shifting the venue of this competition from St Lucia to USVI and Trinidad & Tobago will undoubtedly be a very costly venture for the SLFA. An added issue will be that players travelling to the USVI will need to have Visas.

Some feel St Lucia not hosting the tournament is a blessing in disguise. Let’s face it, with time running out, there was very little in the way of promotion for this important tournament. However, you have to feel sorry for the young ladies who trained hard and looked forward to playing on their home field.

The team is in a state of readiness, having completed a rather intense three day camp earlier this month at George Odlum Stadium. The SLFA President is pleased with their progress.

“We are very optimistic in terms of the preparation by the young ladies and pleasantly surprised by their progress,” said Mathurin. “We would very much like to win the group but we are not 100 percent sure of what the other teams are going to offer, but we are very optimistic and believe our ladies might just be able to pull through in the tournament.”

Wishful thinking indeed!

Under-20 National Women’s Team victorious in first leg

Under-20 National Women’s Team victorious in first leg
St. Lucia Star

The St Lucia Under 20 National Women’s Football Team got off to a good start, by winning the first leg of a two leg Caribbean Football Union (CFU) Group B playoff.

On Sunday playing United States Virgin Islands on their home soil, St Lucia came away with a 3-1 victory. The second leg of the playoff takes place today (Tuesday) with the winner of the tie on arrogate for both legs, moving on to meet Trinidad & Tobago on their home field.

St Lucia was scheduled to host the three team competition at George Odlum Stadium on September 23, 25 and 27, however, the recent fire at St Jude Hospital led to the change in venue. George Odlum Stadium could not be used to stage the competition because it is being used as a temporary emergency facility.

In other news, Jamaica completed their Group A CFU Women’s Under-20 World Cup Qualifier, by embarrassing Dominica 11-1 at Windsor Park on Sunday. Jamaica who now advance to the next stage, had previously defeated Turks and Caicos 5-0 while Dominica and Turks and Caicos drew 1-1.

Today's result was 5:1 in favor of St. Lucia, so they are on their way to play T&T on Oct 5 and 7 at the MLS.

Both legs will be played in T&T, with the second scheduled for Wednesday at the same venue. St Lucia forfeited the right to host their home game because of the lack of a facility. The greatest single cause of atheism in the world today are Christians who acknowledge Jesus ;with their lips and walk out the door and deny Him by their lifestyle. That is what an unbelieving world simply finds unbelievable.

T&T women crush St Lucia

Natasha St Louis notched six goals to fire Trinidad and Tobago's Under-20 team to an emphatic 11-1 crushing of St Lucia in their first leg encounter of the Caribbean Football Union Women's Qualifiers on Monday night.

Captain Mariah Shade added a hat-trick while Kayla Taylor and Karyn Forbes also found the net to virtually assure T&T of advancing to the final round of qualifiers in Trinidad next month against Jamaica, Cuba and St Kitts and Nevis.

St Lucia struggled to come to grips with the quality of their opponents as T&T exploited their weaknesses to completely dominate the encounter at Marvin Lee Stadium, Macoya.

The rout began as early as the sixth minute when Taylor, well known for her clever footwork, found the back of the net to put T&T ahead.

Shade then doubled her team's lead six minutes later, before St Louis added two more in the 16th and 20th minutes.

Taylor squandered a chance after being set up by midfielder Rehana Omardeen's fine diagonal pass but her parried shot landed at the feet of St Louis who pounced to complete her hat-trick in the 27th minute.

A minute later, Karyn Forbes easily penetrated a poorly constructed St Lucian wall to score T&T's sixth goal with a well-taken strike from just outside the 18-yard box. Leading 6-0 at the break, Shade continued her team's domination in the 47th minute from a well executed corner taken by Taylor and completed her hat-trick two minutes later as St Lucia's defence again went to pieces.

Taylor weaved her way back into the action when she found herself free in the 53rd minute to make a fine run on goal before nudging the ball to St Louis who tapped the ball in for her fourth.

St Louis scored again in the 67th and again in the 72nd to make it 11-0 and finish with six goals to her name.

St Lucia finally mustered up a shot on goal in the 77th which was brilliantly saved by Linfah Jones but Kwanzaa Robest scored just moments later to get her side on the scoresheet.

The teams clash again today in the second leg fixture at the same venue from 5 p.m. -CMC

TRINIDAD AND Tobago crushed St Lucia 11-1 at the Marvin Lee Stadium in Macoya on Monday afternoon, in the first match of a 2010 FIFA Under-20 Women’s World Cup play-off series, in the Caribbean Football Union (CFU) Preliminary Round Group “B” series.

Natasha St Louis netted six goals, while captain and fellow striker Mariah Shade chipped in with three. Midfielders Kayla Taylor and Karyn Forbes added one each for the hosts while Kwanzaa Robest pulled one back for the St Lucians.

In the blink of an eye, the score was 3-0 with Taylor (sixth minute), Shade (12th) and St Louis (16th) on target, while St Louis completed her hat-trick with close range shots, past goalkeeper Cindy St Ange, in the 20th and 27th minutes.

Forbes rifled home a 30-metre right-footed freekick, to the left of a stranded St Ange, in the 30th before Shade also registered her treble, tapping home, from inside the six-yard box, in the 48th and 50th minutes.

St Louis got her fourth in the 53rd, finishing off a counter-attacking move involving midfielder Afiyah Matthias and Taylor and, after a goalkeeper switch by the visitors, St Louis punished Rickel Mentor with a low blast from the edge of the penalty box (67th) and a fine finish (72nd) to the near post after a wonderful diagonal ball from Forbes.

In the 79th, Robest spared total humiliation for the St Lucians with a fantastic strike, from the right flank, drilling her shot past goalie Linfah Jones (a 35th minute replacement for the injured Kimika Forbes).

The “return” leg will also take place at the Macoya venue today at 5 pm.
