Player could get three-year ban for flying kick
By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS (CP) – 1 hour ago

LA PAZ, Bolivia — Bolivian club Oriente Petrolero wants Blooming opponent Sergio Jauregui to be issued a three-year suspension for kicking Oriente player Leonardo Medina in the face with a flying kick in a football match last weekend.

Richard Mendez, a director with Oriente Petrolero, said league rules called for suspensions of up to three years for such on-field violence.

"And we want the maximum penalty," Mendez said on Tuesday.

In Sunday's match, Medina pushed Jauregui, and Jauregui responded with a martial arts-style flying kick that struck Medina in the neck and face. Medina was treated in a hospital and is expected to be sidelined for about two weeks.

Jauregui offered a public apology afterward.

The prosecutor handling the case said Jauregui committed "criminal aggression" and said he expected to file charges.

Bolivian player banned one year for karate kick

A Bolivian footballer has been banned for one year for assaulting an opponent with a flying karate kick after both players had been sent off.

Blooming defender Sergio Jauregui was suspended at a meeting of the Bolivian league's disciplinary tribunal following the incident in the derby against Oriente Petrolero on Aug. 23, local media said on Wednesday.

The astonishing attack, featured on video clips posted on various websites, left Oriente forward Leonardo Medina needing hospital treatment and put him out of action for two weeks.

Television pictures showed the trouble started during an Oriente Petrolero attack on goal with Medina's elbow appearing to catch Jauregui, who ended up in the back of the net.

The furious Jauregui then rushed 20 metres and pushed Medina to the ground. Both men were sent off.

Pictures showed that as Medina was entering the inflatable tunnel behind the goal, Jauregui attacked him with a flying karate kick.

Medina was struck feet first high on the chest and collapsed while furious Oriente players and substitutes surrounded Jauregui.

Jauregui, who played for Bolivia during the 2006 World Cup qualifying competition, later visited Medina in hospital and apologised. He also offered to pay the Uruguayan player's medical expenses, local media said.

Chilean keeper given four-year ban after breaking opponent's jaw with vicious kick
By Alex Dowd (Fox Sports)

A goalkeeper from the Tercera (Third) Division in Chile has been handed a four-year ban from the sport after he kicked an opponent in the head last weekend, breaking the victim's jaw in three places and sending him to the hospital, according to reports in Chile.

Video of the incident, which occurred last Sunday, emerged of General Velázquez goalkeeper Claudio Abarca kicking Estación Central's Diego Diaz square in the head as Diaz was prone in front of goal. You can watch video of the kick below, but beware that it's a bit graphic.

Diaz was taken off the pitch, loaded into an ambulance and taken to the hospital following the kick. Abarca was immediately sent off and detained by police, spending the night in jail. Following the attack, the National Amateur Football Association (ANFA) of Chile handed down a four-year suspension for Abarca.

Diaz is expected to recover from the attack, but reportedly cannot return to play until next year.
