A night of upsets!  :cursing:

The games were pushed back by 1 hour due to the overrun of the national athletics preparations for the Calista games. Also, teams had to use the dressing rooms at Jean Pierre as the HC ones are under repair!

St Anns Rangers 3 -2 Caledonia

Rangers took the lead with a sublime chip from near the halfway line by their number 10. Really can't remember much about the game as I was trying to de-stress by babysitting before the Central F.C. game!
I know that the number 10 scored a second goal and the game was tied 2-2 until late when Rangers got their winner. As usual, Rangers played with gusto and verve (no, not two foreigners drafted in) and I felt they deserved the win.

North East Stars 2 - 1 Central F.C.

All credit to North East who came out of the stalls with winning on their minds. Right from the kick off by Central, the ball was given away and Stars nearly scored. Caesar bagged his first after 4 minutes through horrendous defending by Benjamin and Central looked like they were still in the dressing room (which was quite a distance away). Inside 20 minutes and it was Caesar 2 Central 0 with Benjamin, again, looking like the villain.
Central failed to get a foothold though they had many attacks, but their usual clinical finishing had deserted them and pulled on a North East jersey.

Half time couldn't come too soon for The Sharks and Fenwick made two decisive changes when he removed Benjamin and Delice and replaced them with de Silva and Mitchell. From the restart, Central looked more like Sharks with teeth with a lot more energy in midfield and Jamal Jack, who began the game in midfield and came close to scoring, reverted to right back.

Central were awarded a penalty around 55 minutes. I have no idea what for, but there didn't seem to be many complaints. Guerra converted and it was game on. There were a couple of heavy challenges from North East. Marcano was cynically poleaxed which resulted in a yellow card and Jack was flattened which resulted in his removal by stretcher, yet no foul was given.  :o

Leston Paul was introduced and apart from a few breaks, Central went gung ho for goal. Marcano caused lots of trouble but his final deliveries were poor. Plaza never really got a decent opening as Stars relied on their usual resolute defending.

At the whistle, Central had not only lost the game, but also their shot at the title and possibly even a second place finish. It's in the hands of Defence Force now who's title hopes will rest on their two games against Connection.

Ironically, Central's chance of qualifying for CONCACAF could depend on Connection winning both games vs Army!

Go Connection  :wavetowel:  It's a funny old game!

Charles-Fevrier, Russell confident as League nears end
T&T Guardian

St Lucian-born former T&T coach Stuart Charles-Fevrier and Ross Russell, an ex-T&T goalkeeper have both expressed confidence in leading their respective clubs, DirecTV W Connection and Defence Force to this year’s Digicel T&T Pro League which carries with it a $1 million prize.

Currently, W Connection, winners in 2000, 2001, 2005 and 2011/12 lead the nine-team with 45 points from 21 matches and three left to play while Pt Fortin Civic FC is next with 39 points but with only one match left.

Defending champions Defence Force also lifted the title in the inaugural league season in 1999 and 2010/2011 as well is third with 38 points and five matches, the same as Central FC, but the latter only has three matches to play.

As its stands, W Connection is in firm control of its own destiny along with Defence Force, while Central FC needs some other results to go its way to be crowned champions after slipping up against North East Stars, 1-2 in its last match.

Pt Fortin Civic and fifth placed Stars (36 points from 22 matches) while out of the title race for certain are also still in the hunt for a top two finish which will guarantee a spot in next year’s Caribbean Football Union Club Championships, a qualifier to the Concacaf Champions League, meaning a lot is still to play for apart from the league’s top prize.

W Connection, which also faces Central FC in the Lucozade Sport Goal Shield final on April 25 with the hope of adding to its three titles won already this season, will face Defence Force on May 4 and May 6 before completing its schedule versus Caledonia AIA on May 13.

In addition to playing four-time champions W Connection on May 4 and May 6, Defence Force, which is seeking a third title in four years and fourth overall since the league was established in 1999 will also come up against St Ann’s Rangers, Caledonia and San Juan Jabloteh.

The Terry Fenwick-coached Central FC have matches remaining against Police, San Juan Jabloteh and St Ann’s Rangers; Pt Fortin ends against Caledonia AIA while Stars come up against Rangers and Police.

Looking ahead to the remainder of the fixtures, Charles-Fevrier noted that the title is a journey and not an event.

He added, “W Connection is where we wanted to be when the season started, that’s in the hunt for the top prize. We are now approaching the business end of things and we are in a good position to come out on top.

With regards to his team’s remaining schedule, Charles-Fevrier, who has led the club to two of its previous four league triumphs as well as numerous cup wins, noted that it will not be an easy ride as they have three tough matches to come.

“We play defending champions Defence Force, who are also in the title hunt twice and then Caledonia, so we have do everything that is legally possible to get the necessary results to claim the crown.

Asked his team was under any added pressure as leaders, the W Connection boss replied, “There is always pressure on professional players and at our club its no different.

However, he warned that the pressure brings out two sides in individuals. “It’s either the pressure makes you worse or it makes you better, and we have been in the league for 15 years, so we are used to it and working on maintaining our focus.”

Where do these reporters get their information from, lest I be accused of not wanting journalists to have their say where W Connection is concerned, Fevrier has been with W Connection from inception save for 2003 when he was with the National Team and based on the reporter's own listings about the Winners of the League from 1999 then it stands to reason that Fevrier was at the helm for all 4 league titles.
But say what!!!

I saw that and it confused me too! Thanks for correcting it! On another, more petty observation: why is everyone placing Central in 4th when they have scored more goals than Army, conceded less and have a better goal difference? Even alphabetically, Central should be third!  :frustrated:

Kind of funny now that Central need Connection to beat Army twice so they can have a chance of 2nd spot!

I too have a problem with this and the League habitually makes this mistake, the only rationale I can think of is that they figure Army has played less matches but that rationale is flawed (no one knows what the results of the games in hand would be), the basis should be points first if points are same, then goal difference, if goal difference is same then the team who scored more goals would be ahead. Until games in hand are played & results known then the adjustment(s) would be made.

Are they ordering by results/goals for between teams? What were the central DF games in the season?

This should only come into play if everything is equal, games played, points, goals for, goals against, & even then the head to head can be equal, this league is 3 rounds so each team plays the other 3 times so what if they each win one game with the same scoreline and the other match drawn, then they would be joint 2nd, 3rd etc, so it should be points, goal difference & then goals for.
One example in 2006 Joe Public won the League, Connection came second, they both had equal points, equal goal difference but Joe Public scored more goals and won the title by virtue of scoring more goals.

I think Central won 2-0 in rd 3, 3-2 in rd 2 and 1-0 in rd 1  I am positive on two of those results, so even head to head, Central should be third!

Ato Boldon 6pm

Defence Force 2 - 1 St Ann's Rangers

It appeared that maybe Defence Force had rested players with their eye on Friday's Pro League clash with Caledonia and rumour has it that Jorsling may have a hamstring injury. Certainly, Army didn't look their usual dominant force, although they had bucket loads of missed chances. If the Rangers performance was as good as they gave in recent games, this could have been a costly upset as Army cannot lose two games if they want to make sure of finishing above Central F.C. in second spot, while a clear run of wins would see them finish top. The 0-0 half time score reflected a rather dull game with no real high points. But Coach Russell must have exchanged the blanks for live rounds as 2 minutes after the interval, Kerry Joseph put Army into the lead. Much of the same first half performance continued until Josimar Belgrave scored a nice goal to put the game beyond doubt...or was it? Rangers finally found the target 3 minutes later and there was a real possibility of a draw. However, Army held out and got another 3 points closer to Connection, who they still have to play twice.

Ato Boldon 8pm
Police 1 - 4 Central F.C.

Shocking start for Central who have failed to win over Police in the league and also suffered their heaviest league defeat when the lawmen won 4-1 in November. Within 3 minutes, Aaron Stewart saw his shot take two deflections before hitting Jan-Michael Williams net to give Police an early lead. It was the usual physical performance with Winchester taking plenty of hard knocks. Central won a penalty, but Guerra failed to beat the keeper and it was looking like another jinxed night against Police. But Guerra made up for his penalty faux pas when, in the 26th minute, he collected the ball outside the box and with nothing opening up in front of him, sent a trademark low shot into the corner of the Police net.

https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=10152364010352095

3 minutes later saw Plaza score a sublime individual goal that would make Stephen Harts' mouth water.

https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=10152364013232095

Central bossed the game from then on. Winchester and a Police defender ran full pelt for a loose ball and the crash that resulted could be heard in the stands. Thankfully, both players continued after some treatment. Plaza struck again in the 51st minute to seal the 3 points for Central. Although the keeper did well to save Plazas shot, he couldn't hold the ball and Plaza tapped home for his 14th goal since January. However, the goal could be costly as Plaza took a nasty knock on his foot and had to leave the field on a stretcher. Winchester too received another injury when a Police defender took his legs away. He was shown a red card and the four Police players who argued aggressively with the ref for at least 3 minutes were lucky to not even receive a yellow. Central continued to push forward and substitute Peltier missed a great one on one opportunity. But with virtually the final kick of the ball, Mitchell made it 4 which was just revenge for Central's 4-1 defeat earlier in the season.
Central must win their two remaining games vs Jabloteh and St Ann's Rangers to have any hope of second place, but that will depend heavily on W.Connection taking 6 points from Army. Meanwhile, Central will have to pull themselves back together after this bruising encounter before they face Connection on Friday in the Lucozade Goal Shield final.

Central on 42 points with superior goal (conceded) difference.

If Army loose today and Central win their last game they will finish 2nd.

The tie today really hurt them.

Central have Rangers next and Army will play Jaboteh.

Connection will be crown champs if they win today.

Well !  well ! well .......seems like san juan jabloteh had a bone to pick with Central F.C..!! by holding central  sharks to a draw ............  interestingly enough, i have to admit  the 2013/2014 Pro league  season provided enough intrigue amongst the teams .....looking forward with greater interest to next season......

Directv W Connnection are the 2013/2014 TT Pro League Champions whipping Defence Force 4-1
W Connection 4  - Stefano Rijssel 4', Joevin Jones 31', 86', Hashim Arcia 38'
Defence Force 1 - Josimar Belgrave 37'

Defence Force has to lose their next match & Central must win theirs to be guaranteed 2nd place.  Army just needs 1 point from their last game against Jabloteh, this draw tonight hurt Central so they will have to hope that Jabloteh can hold off Army & then they will come second on goal difference.
