Hold on slightly confused - initially he was on a year-long loan to Finland, but now he's loaned back to W Connection and had a year extension to his contract?

Is his contract with W Connection or Jaro? Is he on loan or contracted to Jaro?

Okay let me unconfuse you. Winchester belongs to W Connection. He has also signed a new one year contract with Jaro, however Jaro has agreed to allow him to skip pre season (because of his proven showing last season) so as to represent W Connection until March 1st, 2014 when he will return to Finland to fulfill his year long contractual obligations. Hope this has cleared up your state of confusion!!!

I don't see how those statements are meant to un-confuse.

I imagine it is a loan contract with Jaro?

Once the clubs agree the loan, Winchester can sign a contract with Jaro on his own terms. For example, club A may loan a player to club B with an understanding that the player remains an employee of Club A, but the Club b has use of his services for a given period of time and that Club B is responsible for all obligations including salary, insurance, medical care, flights, accommodation etc. The player can negotiate a higher salary with Club B than he is receiving from Club A and/or a signing bonus. Club A could also request a payment for the player.

Take it easy pardner. I fully understand what you was trying to say.

It would have been best stated that he remains a W Connection player on loan to Jaro, with whom he has a separate contract.
Just trying to be clear.

Point Fortin’s Marcus Joseph tricks again; Winchester nets double as Connection stretches lead.
ttproleague.com.

Marcus Joseph registered a second hat-trick in four days and suddenly Point Fortin Civic are back in the race for the 2013/2014 Digicel Pro League championship.

Joseph, scorer of a hat-trick in Saturday’s 5-0 trouncing of Police FC at the Mahaica Oval, scored all three goals in side’s 3-0 win over cellar positioned St. Ann’s Rangers in the first match of a Round Two Match Day Three double header at the Marvin Lee Stadium on Tuesday.

The win propelled Point Fortin three spots up into third on the standings with 16 points, one point behind second positioned North East Stars (17 points), but a very long way behind leaders DIRECTV W Connection (29 points), while Joseph, now with 7 league goals is on the heels of Kerry Baptiste for the Golden Boot award.

The unstoppable Connection extended its unbeaten run to eleven league games and boasts a massive 12-point lead after overcoming San Juan Jabloteh 4-1 in the second match at the Macoya venue.

Shahdon Winchester, who is back in Connection colours on a short stint before heading back to Finland’s FF Jaro in under two months time, led the scorers’ list with a double.

Winchester made it 1-0 by the 12th minute when he smashed a half volley into the roof of goalkeeper Kevin Dodds’ net after getting a favourable bounce inside the area.

Then in the 31st minute, coach Stuart Charles Fevrier’s men were celebrating a 2-0 cushion when defender Leslie Joel Russell turned in a free ball from close range after the Jabloteh defence failed to successfully clear a Silvio Spann left side corner.

Winchester later completed his double with a cool finish in the 54th minute after powering into the area and slipping a low strike past a helpless Dodds.

Dodds and his Jabloteh teammates were lucky not to concede another in the 56th minute when Kurt Frederick’s strike crashed off the post.

Jabloteh finally pulled a goal back in the 59th minute, reducing the deficit 1-3, when Jevon Morris unleashed a powerful crack from distance beating a fully stretched goalkeeper Aquelius Sylvester.

Connection kept pressing the San Juan club, while keeping Kerry Baptiste at bay, and got close in the 74th minute when an ambitious chip by substitute Neil Benjamin Jr. from distance flew inches over.

But in the third and final minute of stoppage time Connection sealed the comfortable 4-1 victory with brothers Alvin and Joevin Jones combining.

Second half substitute Alvin, picked out on the right by another substitute Stefano Rijssel, whipped in a cross and Joevin, who missed the target by inches in the 9th minute, and was denied by Dodds in the 45th minute from a free kick, made no mistake guiding in at the back post.

In the earlier match Joseph, very familiar with the artificial surface at the Macoya venue being a former Joe Public player, clearly was on top of his game.

The Trinidad and Tobago player’s swerving left footed strike in the 6th minute which defeated goalkeeper Terrence Lewis and fitted inside the left upper corner for a 1-0 Point Fortin advantage, was a sign of what was to follow.

Joseph popped up again in the 13th minute with a telling cross which was unfortunately guided wide of the goal by Sylvester Teesdale, under challenge by Lewis.

Joseph, who struck the side netting in the 22nd minute, combined with Bevon Bass in the 29th minute but the latter’s effort crashed onto the base of the upright. And ten minutes later it was Joseph’s pass to Akeem Redhead that saw a swerving effort shave the upright.

Joseph followed up with a crack from 25 yards out and was only a couple metres wide, but the power on the effort gave Rangers reason for concern.

And after taking control of a long diagonal pass by Bass inside the area, ahead of defender Jair Edwards, Joseph poked wide to the delight of goalkeeper Lewis.

But Joseph, who gave Bass another look at goal in the 53rd minute, wasn’t as generous to Rangers in the 56th minute when he rushed the area and rifled in a low strike for a 2-0 cushion.

Joseph later completed his hat-trick and the 3-0 score in the 73rd minute from the penalty spot after referee Gyasi Mc Donald awarded the kick for a foul on Redhead by Jelani Peters.

Joseph was close again in the 90th minute, after a neat exchange with substitute Andrei Pacheco, but only struck the side netting.

Meanwhile Jabloteh’s best chances of the match came from winger Kennedy Isles, who forced a tip behind by goalkeeper Marvin Phillip in the 50th minute from a free kick and curled another effort wide twenty minutes later.

Simultaneously at the Ato Boldon Stadium, Police FC hosted Caledonia AIA and in the end both teams walking away with a point following a 1-1 draw.

Winchester keeps W Connection rolling
...Joseph nets another hat-tricks

Nigel Simon (T&T Guardian)

Former Finland-based national midfielder Shahdon Winchester scored a goal in each half as DirecTV W Connection whipped San Juan Jabloteh 4-1 to extend its lead at the top of the Digicel T&T Pro League table at the Marvin Lee Stadium, Macoya, on Tuesday.

Leslie Russell and Joevin Jones, added the other goals for the three-time Pro League champion to push its points tally to 29 from 11 matches, 12 clear of idle North East Stars while Pt Fortin Civic trounced St Ann’s Rangers in the opener at Macoya, thanks to a hat-trick from national striker Marcus Joseph, his second in succession.

Joseph, scorer of a hat-trick in Saturday’s 5-0 trouncing of Police FC at the Mahaica Oval in Point Fotin, scored his goals in the sixth, 56th and 73rd minute, the last of which from the penalty-spot to move his club three spots up the nine-team table. Pt Fortin moves to third place with 16 points, two more than Caledonia AIA and Police, after their 1-1 draw at the Ato Boldon Stadium, Couva.

With Stars not in action on the night, W Connection had a golden chance to put some more distance between itself and the chasing pack and led by Winchester, who opened the scoring as early as the 12th minute the “Savonetta Boys” extended their unbeaten start to the league campaign, to 12 matches.

Winchester, who is back in W Connection colours on a short stint before heading back to Finland’s FF Jaro in under two months time, volleyed in his team first goal past goalkeeper Kevin Dodds after getting a favourable bounce inside the area.

Despite their low position on the table, Jabloteh did well to keep W Connection from adding to its tally until the 31st minute when former Jabloteh utility player Leslie Joel Russell netted from close range after his former employers failed to clear a Silvio Spann left-sided corner.

Nine minutes after the restart the match was all but over as a Winchester got his second and W Connection’s third after slipping a shot past Dodds to cap off a powerful run.

Two minutes later Dodds’ goal was under threat again from in-form Kurt Frederick, but luckily for Jabloteh his effort canoned off the crossbar, and three minutes later Jabloteh finally had something to cheer about when defender, Jevon Morris pulled a goal-back with a long range effort past goalkeeper Aquelius Sylvester.

In the 74th minute, substitute Neil Benjamin Jr also had an effort on the Jabloteh goal from some distance that just went wide, before Alvin Jones set up his brother, national midfielder Joevin Jones for W Connection’s fourth item, three minutes into injury time.

But while W Connection stormed to yet another win, it was Pt Fortin Civic’s Joseph that was the talk of the afternoon.

Joseph, playing at the home of his former club Joe Public’s artificial surface, fired his team ahead in the sixth minute with a trademark left-footed blast past goalkeeper Terrence Lewis.

Sylvester Teesdale, Bevon Bass, Akeem Redhead as well as Joseph, all came close to adding to their team’s lead before the interval, but somehow, the score managed to remain 1-0.

Five minutes into the second-half, St Ann’s Rangers’ Kennedy Isles almost pulled his team level against the run of play, but his effort was tipped over by goalkeeper Marvin Phillip.

Pt Fortin then regained control of the contest and in the 56th minute, Joseph finally added to his team’s lead and in the 73rd minute, he sealed all three points by completing his hat-trick from the penalty-spot after Jabloteh’s Jelani Peters was whistled for a foul on Redhead by referee Gyasi Mc Donald.

Down at the Ato Boldon Stadium, Caledonia missed out on all three points after Jameel Perry cancelled out Densil Theobald’s early item.

Results:
 Pt Fortin Civic 3 (Marcus Joseph 6th, 55th, 74th) vs St Ann’s Rangers 0
 W Connection 4 (Shahdon Winchester 12th, 54th, Leslie Russell 51st,
Joevin Jones 93rd) vs San Juan Jabloteh 1 (Jevon Morris 59th)

Keron Cummings promises a positive turn
TTProleague.com

Keron Cummings' infamous love for the minor leagues has plagued his professional career — one only spanning between the years 2010 and 2013, and featured very little of the midfielder.

Cummings never lacked the raw talent or the ability to be marvelous on the field. However it was his clear lack of professional discipline, and preferred love of the minor leagues (short competitions, often played within communities, doesn't require showing up for training, and have been known to lure top players with quick cash appearance fees) that saw Cummings fail to settle within the Pro League.

Cummings, who had spells at W Connection, Central FC and St. Ann’s Rangers, undoubtedly starved his potential.

“The minor league is something I used to go about for fun,” said the 25 year-old. “And when you’re childish you don’t really see (the
negatives) of it.”

Cummings now has a chance to redeem himself after being snapped up by North East Stars head coach Angus Eve during the December/January transfer window, offering the Diego Martin footballer a fresh opportunity on the professional scene.

“When he (Cummings) first came here (North East Stars) I told him let’s go forward,” said Eve, throwing over his shoulders, Cummings’ dark cloud of indiscipline.

The North East Stars coach pointed out that, “It’s the same information they told me about Cornell Glen when I brought him here (at the beginning of last season). It’s the same information I had about Anthony Wolfe (at the beginning of this season).

“I like to take chances on players. Coaching is more about player management. The kid (Cummings) has the ability to play. I think he is national team quality. My job here is to keep him.

“He is left footed. He can do free kicks. He is skillful and has a lot of vision. (Cummings) and (T&T midfielder) Kevin Molino are players in the same mold,” said the former Trinidad and Tobago midfielder.

Cummings has already made three league starts (1-0 vs St. Ann’s Rangers, 0-0 vs Point Fortin Civic and 2-0 vs Caledonia AIA) for the Sangre Grande club, which sits second on the standings with 17 points, 12 points behind leaders W Connection (29 points).

North East Stars also boasts a three-match unbeaten run in the league, but far less than the amount enjoyed by Connection, who they face in a top of the table clash on Friday 24 January from 8 pm at the Hasely Crawford Stadium.

Cummings, who is expected to step out against his former club on Friday, declared, “I really joined North East Stars to establish myself in football.

“The past is the past,” continued the midfielder and father of two—four year-old Jevon and one year-old Keaam Cummings.

“Angus gave me a fair chance. Other teams kept (judging) me on the stigma attached to me. But Angus gave me a chance to redeem myself and what I’m really about.

“It’s about stamping my authority in the league this year and looking towards going abroad to play next season.

“I’d be proving myself this time and get back my name on the map.

“I wasn’t really stable in the football before, and now I have the chance to be stable in it. Angus has given me the opportunity and it’s if I want it … or don’t want it.”

Cummings is a great talent. Graham Rix both loved him and hated him! He loved his ability and he's a nice guy, but the minor league thing was something Rix just couldn't comprehend after a lifetime in professional football in several countries.
I hope Cummings really has turned the corner, because his talent is much desired in the Pro League.

Maybe the same reason people kick around in the SSFL beyond their term - they like being the biggest fish, pond size no matter. Can definitely understand that urge, but it's not great for careers

Not these days na. Way too wasteful in the box and final third. That's what Plaza and Guerra were brought in for. Plaza looked decent after not playing for a while so we should see some goals when he is match sharp. While Guerra has been underwhelming in the last 2 games. He needs to contain his emotions and just play.

Point Fortin ain't no whipping boys, but for top 3 they're the type of team 3 points are valuable against. Personally, I don't expect taht from Central with so many new signings - winning a cup was good, but when they have a settled team next year I'll be looking out for a CCL position :)

Well, its all about perspective. Unbeaten in 4 league games ain't bad. Point also now unbeaten in last 4 games.
North East and Police couldn't win at Mahaica either in last few weeks.
Point scored 8 goals last week, but Central kept a clean sheet.

Of course, we'd like to win every game, but you'd always be happy with a draw and a clean sheet down there. It's the only real "away" fixture.

Without doubt, Central need to start winning regularly to secure second spot.

Point Fortin occupy second after goalless draw with Central
ttproleague.com.

Point Fortin Civic jumped two spots up the ladder and now occupies second position on the 2013/2014 Digicel Pro League standings after playing to a goalless draw against Central FC on Saturday.

Central visited the Mahaica Oval equipped with four debuting starters and had definitely hoped for maximum three points against a side that convincingly won their last two outings.

But the Terry Fenwick coached—Central featuring new signings Trinidad and Tobago international striker Willis Plaza, ex-World Youth Cup captain Leston Paul, former Defence Force utility player Samuel Delice and ex-national senior team defender Yohance Marshall alongside recent acquisition and “Soca Warriors” playmaker, Ataullah Guerra only managed a point.

Point Fortin meanwhile, coming off Tuesday’s 3-0 win over bottom of the table St. Ann’s Rangers at the Marvin Lee Stadium, and last weekend’s 5-0 win over Police FC at the Mahaica Oval, failed to pick up a third win in a row.

Point Fortin 22 year-old attacker Marcus Joseph, scorer of back to back hat-tricks in his team’s last two outings, dragged a second half penalty wide.

Central too would bite themselves late in the match when substitute Rundell Winchester struck the crossbar.

Central remained in sixth positioned with 14 points, just as fifth positioned Caledonia AIA.

Meanwhile Point Fortin joined third positioned North East Stars and fourth positioned Police with 17 points, all 15 points away from runaway leaders DIRECTV W Connection (32 points).

Digicel Pro League 2013/2014 Round Two Match Day Four Results

San Juan Jabloteh 1—2 Police FC
Jean-Luc Rochford 77’  ;  Jameel Perry 37’, Elijah Belgrave 90’

North East Stars 0—2 W Connection
Shahdon Winchester 27’, Joevin Jones 90’

Point Fortin Civic 0—0 Central FC

SO they changed the games and venue without notice again.

Lard farther.

It appears that they wait until Wednesday to see if Army can play. If not, they bring forward one of the Saturday games. We are notified on Wednesday afternoon.

Soccerama, I'd be interested in your take on the double sending off in the Police vs Central game.

From my view, I saw Guerra make a strong challenge to which the ref awarded a throw in. Then Trent Noel physically accosted the Ref and was immediately shown the red card. Then the Police players crowded the ref and eventually Guerra was shown a red card too.

Question: How can a red card be shown to Guerra when a throw in was awarded? If the ref missed the incident, how can he award a red card? The 4th official didn't contribute to the decision and neither assistant was consulted either.

Now I'm not saying there was no foul (I thought it was a good tackle, but I was up in the stands) but once the referee made a decision how can he then give a red card for a challenge that he didn't judge to be a foul?

Generally, the ref was poor throughout and allowed many bad challenges to go unchecked.

Under new FIFA rules a referee can send off a player whenever, even substitutes, but I have to say there doesn't seem much reason if he has given a throw-in, unless something happened between the awarding of a throw-in and his sending off

The only new rule I saw being applied was the "Alex Ferguson whingeing player rule"

Hah! If you think it's a genuine case of intimidation you could write to the referee, CC in the FA, and make a broader point about referee protection to cover your back
