U-17 girls hammer St Kitts in CFU qualifier.
By Shaun Fuentes (TTFA).

Trinidad and Tobago’s National Under 17 Women’s team secured a handsome 7-0 victory over St Kitts/Nevis in their Caribbean Football Union U-17 World Cup qualifying match on Wednesday at the Paul E Joseph Stadium in Frederickstead, St Croix.

T&T entered the game with fourteen players due to the fact that the remaining members were still stranded, unable to get flights to the BVI but head coach Marlon Charles was able to have his players remain focus and the subsequently dominated proceedings on the same evening T&T’s Under 15 boys team should have been in action against St Kitts at the CONCACAF Championship in the Cayman Islands.

T&T got an opening goal from Chevonne John  in the 19th minute and Jahra Thomas doubled their lead in the 22nd . Thomas got a second goal in the 59th while further

items came from Zoe Swift 47th, an own goal 71st, Summer Arjoon 74th and Eden Charles 76th.

“It was an encouraging first game performance for us. We were in a difficult situation due to absence of some of our players but the girls remained focused and they were able to get the job done,” Charles said.

“It was important for us to get three points in this opening match and credit to the team for completing the job. Now we will look to continue in similar fashion on Friday.”

T&T faces Antigua/Barbuda on Friday at 4pm.

The two top placed teams from each of  the three  CFU qualifying groups will advance to the CFU Finals, from which three teams will qualify for the CONCACAF Women's Under-17 Finals. The CFU finals are scheduled for September 11-18 at a venue to be determined. The 2014 FIFA Under 17 Women’s World Cup will take place in Costa Rica in March, next year.

Team administrator Jinelle James provided a brief summary on the goals.

The first goal would come from Chevonne John in the 19th minute after Eden Charles played a perfect through ball for an on running John who placed a perfect shot in the far post. The second goal would come 3 minutes later after Zoe Swift shot a bullet that the keeper could not hold and parried right into the path of Jahra Thomas who put T&T up 2 goals.

As the half continued, the heat and weariness from a long travel for some of the local girls started to show and St. Kitts were able to make some penetrative plays  but just could not capitalize on the opportunity.

The second half would see team captain, Zoe Swift, taking matters into her own hand as she dribbled through a couple defenders in the 47' and made it 3-0. Again, T&T  would continue to dominate with good combination plays and patience as they opened up their opponents.

Jahra Thomas would extend the lead to 4-0 in the 59' as she dribbled past her marker and had powerful shot that went through the hands of the St. Kitts Custodian.

Chevonne John would be credited with her second goal in the 71' when she fired a shot that came off the post, hit the keeper and ended up in the back of the net. Shanelle Arjoon and Eden Charles would seal victory in the 74' and 76' respectively.

TT Under-17 women win again
T&T Newsday Reports
Sunday, August 18 2013

Trinidad and Tobago’s Women’s Under-17 team pulled off their second victory in Caribbean Football Union World Cup qualifying when they held off Antigua/Barbuda 4-1 at the Paul E Joseph Stadium in St Croix on Friday afternoon.

Fresh off their win over St Kitts/Nevis a couple days earlier, TT had to come from a goal down after Antigua grabbed an 18th minute lead through Sonja Henry.

The early setback did not deter the TT girls and they deservedly found the equaliser in the 38th minute when Chevonne John collected a through ball from Dennecia Prince and beat her defender before slotting home. John wasted no time in putting TT ahead, finding the target two minutes later.

TT eased to a 3-1 lead before halftime when Chelcy Ralph, one of the late arriving players a day earlier, nailed a rebound after the Antiguan goalkeeper failed to hold onto a cross ball.

Ralph put TT 4-1 ahead with a clinical finish from close range in the 75th minute.

T&T now face hosts US Virgin Islands from 6pm today and need to win in order to finish as a top seed for the Final round in September. USVI defeated St Kitts 5-0 in the earlier game on Friday.

“It was another good display by the girls but I was particularly pleased with the way they were able to regroup and take charge of the game after conceding early,” said head coach Marlon Charles. “We showed good composure and the team continues to grow in confidence and get better every match. This is something we want to maintain as we look ahead to the rest of the campaign,” he added.

U-17 Princesses blank USVI 13-0
T&T Express Reports
Story Created: Aug 19, 2013 at 10:26 PM ECT

The Junior Soca Princesses’ Jahra Thomas ended with a tournament-high six goals as Trinidad and Tobago’s national women’s Under-17 football team ended Group Two Caribbean first-round qualifying for the Costa Rica 2014 FIFA Under-17 Women’s World Cup with an emphatic 13-0 win over the United States Virgin Islands on Sunday night.

Following a 0-0 draw between Antigua and Barbuda and St Kitts and Nevis earlier, both Trinidad and Tobago and hosts USVI were assured of spots in the upcoming Caribbean final round of qualifying. All that was to be decided in the final match of the tournament was which of the two unbeaten teams would take top spot.

It was a no-contest. T&T ended the tournament with a maximum nine points after also beating St Kitts and Nevis 7-0 and Antigua and Barbuda 4-1. The USVI were second on four points following a 5-0 win over St Kitts and Nevis and a 0-0 draw with Antigua and Barbuda.

Trained by Marlon Charles, T&T were all over the hosts at the Paul E Joseph Stadium in St Croix on Sunday. For T&T, Thomas netted four goals, while both Zoe Swift and Khaline Jacob got two each. Tamara Johnson, Chelcy Ralph, Chevonne John, Dennecia Prince, and an own goal also contributed to the massive tally.

“We’ve done well in this phase and it was pleasing to see the girls dominate the opposition,” Charles said. “We’ve got work to do but this was a good start and the players realise that once they put their minds to it, they can take charge. We expect the next stage to be tougher but not beyond us. We are definitely looking to continue this run of form right into the Concacaf round.
