‘Vincy Heat’ arrive for their date with Golden Jaguars tomorrow
June 12, 2015

ST Vincent and the Grenadines National football team arrived in Guyana yesterday ahead of their date tomorrow at the Guyana National Stadium, Providence, against the ‘Golden Jaguars’.The ‘Vincy Heat’ drew 2-2 with the ‘Golden Jaguars’ in their opening match of the 2018 World Cup Qualifier at the Arnos Vale Stadium last Wednesday, putting head coach Cornelius Huggins’ men in a must-win situation.
Should Guyana fail to come up with the ‘W’, the Jamaal Shabazz-led side will need to ensure that the game finishes in either a 0-0 or 1-1 draw to keep their Russia dreams alive.
“The team is ready, we know the job at hand and we have to get a win on Sunday (tomorrow)” Huggins said while speaking to the media at the Ogle International Airport.

“I think in St Vincent we were supposed to win convincingly. Once you get the opportunities you are supposed to make good of them and that’s why the game ended in a draw,” Huggins told reporters.
Guyana, through Brandon Beresford, took the lead until St Vincent star forward Cornelius Stewart equalised in the early minutes of the second half.

Ricky Shakes’ goal then gave the Guyanese the lead until Tevin Slater pulled one back for the Vincentians.

English quartet receive citizenship

JUNE 13, 2015 | BY KNEWS | FILED UNDER SPORTS

Englishmen Neil Danns, Matthew Briggs, Marcel Barrington and Sam Cox were all granted citizenship and is now eligible to represent Guyana in tomorrow’s return leg of their 2018 World Cup Qualifier against St Vincent

and the Grenadines.
The two CONCACAF Nations will collide at the Guyana National Stadium and with the quartet now receiving their documents, Head Coach Jamaal Shabazz will put forward the best ‘Golden Jaguars’ line up.

Failing to be granted citizenship prevented the players from representing Guyana in Wednesday’s 2 – 2 draw in Kingstown at the Arnos Vale Sports Complex.
“We’re happy that we can now focus on getting the job done on Sunday and not have to worry if we’ll be able to play or not,” said Danns the Bolton Wanderers midfielder.

Briggs, the youngest player to ever feature in an English Premier League game (16 years and 65 days old with Fulham), stated that, “I’m glad that we finally got our documents. I was worried because we signed on to the programme to help build and push Guyana’s football to the highest level and to not play in the first game was a major disappointment. It’s nice to finally put my mind on Sunday’s game and get the result we need to advance to the next round of the World Cup Qualifiers.”

The now 24 year-old Briggs also pointed out that he’s happy players like Cox and 19 year-old English Premier League side Leicester’s forward Barrington would be able to get their first International Cap.
The Guyana Football Federation (GFF) Marketing and Communication Director Rawle Toney said that the Federation is, “happy that the Government of Guyana was able to issue the players their documents in a timely manner and the GFF is grateful for their support in helping the Golden Jaguars in their quest to Russia 2018”.

Cuba and Curacao tied at 1-1. Cuba playing with 10 due to red card. About 27 minutes of regulation time left.

UPDATE: If the result has held, Curacao is out. Still unclear what has happened.

Belize is leading the Dominican Republic by a goal to nil at 33'. Belize is supposedly in a 4-4-2 playing the DR's 4-3-3. On present form, they are on track to move to the next round.

Update: Belize 2-0 @ the half.

Nah, just getting updates. Final score 3-0. Belize moves on.

All the other matches in progress are scoreless. St. Lucia is playing with 10 men. Ah hadda say, ballers in our region (the Caribbean) are reckless with getting cards.

Absolutely correct. Cuba is out. Kluivert continues his march. Was following @curacaofootball and had Curacao on the brain.

It's now 4-2 SVG. Things look unlikely for the new passport holders.

Allyuh see why the WC is exciting. Prelims is do or die. Some of the most exciting WC. Maybe not the best interms of technique, but exciting nevertheless. I hope CFU archiving these regional games.
