7th heaven for St Augustine girls
By Ian Prescott (Express).

North champs Bishop’s Anstey High School Port of Spain were no match for St Augustine Secondary, who got a first half hat-trick from Laurelle Theodore to win their one-sided BGT&T/First Citizens Secondary Schools Football League (SSFL) Girls’ “Big-Four” semi-final 7-0 yesterday at Larry Gomes Stadium, Arima.

On Monday, St Augustine will meet newly-crowned South league champions Fyzabad Secondary, who advanced to the final with a 3-1 penalty shootout victory over Tobago winners Bishop’s High School, following a 0-0 draw in the opening semi-final on Monday.

Striker Theodore was a terror and netted a total four goals yesterday, before she was substitute in the 69th with the match already well wrapped up. The contest was essentially over by the end of the first half with the “Green Machine” leading by four unanswered goals.

Theodore completed the hat-trick by end of the first half, the best of her three goals saw her race past her marker in the box, before putting the ball low past Bishop’s ‘keeper Whitney Griffith for St Augustine’s fourth goal in the 37th minute. Theodore opened the scoring in the 17th, and also put in a free-kick with her knee for her second in the 30th. Ana Williams also netted for Gustine in the 22nd to make the score 2-0 at that stage.

St Augustine kept up the pressure in the second half, but Bishop’s put up a better fight. Theodore eventually broke them again with her fourth goal in the 61st, when beating the Griffith to the ball.

With Theodore off, St Augustine did not have quite the same bite up front, but still got two more goals, as Bishop’s also gave their second goalie a run. Ke’die Johnson headed in a corner-kick in the 73rd to make it 6-0 and Niaomee Guerra beat the substitute Bishop’s keeper Rowaldo James from long range for a seventh in the 80th minute.

Again, the Express is saying that Fyzabad Secondary progress and it was instead Bishop's Tobago.

Prescott is Express...

that would be horrible... Hasley Crawford should be the venue for a massive final like this... at least in a stadium, to go and put it on some bad grass field with poor seating for fans...hope that is not true

Pres Sando into Big Five final.
By Roger Seepersad (Express).

Chaguanas North turn up to match to appeal SSFL ruling.

Presentation College San Fernando booked their place in the BG T&T/First Citizens Secondary Schools Football League (SSFL) “Big Five” final opposite St Mary’s College with an easy 3-0 win over Central Zone champions Carapichaima East Secondary in their semi-final at Ato Boldon Stadium,  Balmain Couva yesterday.

A brace from Shackiel Henry and a goal from Angel Williams, together with some attacking football from Pres throughout the encounter, were enough to sink Carapichaima in what was a rematch of last year’s Big Five final.

Caps, who won last’s tournament, simply had no reply to Presentation’s three goals yesterday.

The South Zone champions made their intentions known early in the fixture, taking the attack to their opponents in the third minute as Henry tested the goalkeeper with a long range effort along the ground.

Demetrius Edwards had no problem wrapping his hands around that effort, but would later have to fend off some more potent attacks.

Henry continued to hunt for the opener, sending a free kick wide before hitting the side netting with a close range shot with Edwards advancing for the ball.

Henry finally broke the deadlock in the 18th minute when he collected the ball from a corner kick and slotted home a close range effort past a helpless Edwards.

Pres continued to create opportunities, but Edwards foiled most of their attempts as he urged his players to get forward.

While Caps did find themselves up the field a few times, they had few real chances to score in the first period.

Pres continued to pile on the pressure, doubling their lead in the 32nd minute from the penalty spot with Angel Williams putting his team 2-0 up after Henry was brought down inside the box.

The second half saw more attacking plays from Pres with Jared Gordon testing Edwards on the left side in the 66th minute.

The Caps keeper kept his team in the match with a few good saves, but all his hard work was undone by another corner. Williams sent the ball sailing across the face of goal in the 68th minute with Henry directing it into goal for his second of the night.

Chaguanas North Secondary were also at the venue yesterday to serve the SSFL with a letter formally appealing the decision of the “Credentials Committee” to strip the school of nine points after an investigation of the “bona fides” of three of their players.

The ruling of the committee meant that Carapichaima East were elevated to the top of the standings.

According to Chaguanas North, the committee “exceeded its jurisdiction in arriving at its decision” and it also “wrongfully usurped the function of the disciplinary committee.”

Officials from the school said they only received the letter notifying them of the League’s decision yesterday and that they had no intention of disrupting the Big Five semi-final, which was played without any problems.

The real measure of a man's character is what he would do if he knew he would never be found out.

Chaguanas North appeal goes to disciplinary committee.
By: Andrew Gioannetti (Guardian).

A day after Central Zone representative Carapichaima East was eliminated by Presentation College of San Fernando in the Big Five competition, the Secondary Schools Football League (SSFL) has put Chaguanas North’s appeal to reverse a points deduction ruling before its disciplinary committee.

The appeal by Chaguanas North was issued on Thursday, the same day as the Big-Five fixture and a day after the SSFL, through its credentials committee issued a letter stating that nine points were to be deducted from Chaguanas North for the alleged fielding of ineligible players, which gave Carapichaima East the Central Zone league title.

The appeal was also issued less than two hours before the Big-Five match was scheduled to kick off, but an official at Chagaunas North. The official challenged via the appeal, among other grounds, that “the credentials committee had no jurisdiction to decide that my school lost the games that Joshua Garcia (one of the names in question) played in.”

The SSFL constitution states that credentials committee is to refer all matters for judgement to the disciplinary committee. Chaguanas North, however, was never summoned to appear before the disciplinary committee, but only the credentials committee. The credentials committee is chaired by Ganesh Ramlogan, an assistant manager of Carapichaima’s football team.

In the initial verdict, on a letter dated October 31 (Thursday) and signed by SSFL general secretary Azaad Mohammed Khan, Chaguanas North was instructed: “I (Khan) have been directed by the Credentials Committee of the league to write you Re. the decision of the Committee which investigated the bona fides of Joshua Garcia, Jaeel Jeffrey and Ainsley County.” The committee found that Garcia did not satisfy the “transfer of players criteria”, stating that he repeated Form Five twice.

The letter also said the committee found Jeffrey was properly registered but “have sought and is awaiting legal advice” on the issues of County and Garcia, before a ruling is made.

In response, the same day as the SSFL’s letter was dated, and two hours before the Big-Five match between Presentation College and Carapichaima kicked off, Chaguanas North’s, via an official, appealed.

The official concluded that the game (Big-Five) involving the Central Zone representatives should be placed on hold pending the outcome of the appeal.

Contacted for comment, Chaguanas North coach Nicholas Griffith said he felt the schools was suffering from victimization, by officials from the SSFL, who are also employed at Carapichaima East.

“They wait for us to beat Carapichaima on the final day to raise an issue,” said Griffith. Griffith also noted that the post-dated letter provided by the SSFL and faxed to Chaguanas North was dated October 31, a day after it was actually sent to the school. “The fax came in after 3 pm, when school was already finished.”

Griffith revealed yesterday that the appeal was accepted and would go before the disciplinary committee.

Khan was also contacted, and when asked why the decision came from the credentials committee and not the decsciplinary committee, he said, “That should not have happened.

It should have gone to the disciplinary committee.” Khan was also asked if Chaguanas North’s appeal is successful, would the school have the opportunity to play Presentation College in a replay of the semifinal. He replied, “No. The Presentation is in the final. The decision stands. I can give you a reason, but off the record.”

The real measure of a man's character is what he would do if he knew he would never be found out.

I understand that complaint but considering what went down with the school and these players don't you think they are justified with the decisions they made?what you think they should have done or what was the best way to solve this issue?

No big 5 match will go into extra time. If either match ends goalless, the fixture will go straight to penalty kicks.

According to the commentators, the referee was 40 yards away and claimed that the CIC goalkeeper carry the ball over the goal line. No call from the linesman and commentators were in shock.

Did not see it, just reporting what I heard.

the linesman made the call and the keeper did go over the line with the ball.  then henry bumped into him after he crossed the line with the ball.  the commentators were retarded.

Henry nudged the goalkeeper over the line and the linesman ran to the half and the Referee should have called foul for obstruction...Poor call and it cost some kids a chance for a once in a lifetime achievement

It was such a bad decision nobody from Pres appealed anything , no fans, no players nothing... they were in shock they got the goal.... Henry try something cheeky, nudge a keeper over a line and wins a National Title

From another report:
...in the 85th minute, a miskicked lob ball saw the CIC goal-keeper catching the pass on the goal-line and then unfortunately stepping over with the ball into his goal. As the assistant referee signaled for goal, Shackiel Henry bumped into the CIC keeper, giving the impression that he fouled and pushed the St. Mary’s custodian into the goal.

The game was played on neutral ground in Couva! You are evidently looking for excuses by implying that there was bias. Yuh sounding like KB, a CIC old boy who was commentating on i95.5 FM but who admitted in the final analysis that Pres deserved to win as they were de better team! C'mon man!
