Great news for Akeem....but another embarrassment for T&T. Imagine not one dollar from corporate T&T, not one dollar from Govt and a Trini has to rely on charity from another country. Shameful.

It makes you wonder: what would we do for a foreign player in T&T who got injured if we don't care about one of our own.

Why can't we just celebrate the gift without comparing it to what others are doing/not doing?  Not everybody is in a position to be so magnaminous, and yes some local businesses could make some effort, however small... but let's keep the focus where it needs to be.

Not a red cent and imagine this is Hungary where racism against black people and foreigners is a very real problem. Corporate Trinidad is a myth. It's more like a corporate mafia. These people have no intention of ever giving back anything whatsoever to the people of this country. I think it's time that they begin to feel it in their pockets and we support companies who have at their core a belief in corporate social responsibility. Imagine a company like BPTT that for years have extracted oil etc from the southland and places like Mayaro but when you do go to these places they are largely undeveloped. Compare those places to places like Westmoorings etc. Something has to change.

Bakes, yuh right eh but in T&T you have to measure because de government could give millions to one athlete plus house and land and zero to a man who is 22 years old, have one foot and plays football for his job to survive and with another mans heart.

If de SWO did not spearhead de donation for Akeem even de TTFA might not have done anything. They cant even tie up a t-shirt deal for de kid.

Jack left his trademark and Lincoln pulling strings from America.

Hopefully, Sheldon will break all boundaries and hopefully he get man like Flex and Talllman to help him in de Admin part, they dont need to be based in T&T.

BIG UP to this Hungarian company.

exactly....racism is racism.

we in trinidad like to call everybody racist..argentines, hungarians, italians, etc. but we no better. africans and indians can live together but we calling out everybody.  at least the hungarians dont hide the fact, i prefer that than somebody smile with me then go behind my back and say that nigga boy or coolie boy cant get ah wuk cause dem kind eh no good, dey dotish, dey lazy, etc.

we as trinis need to handle our shit and stop talking about other people shit.

look how all them cic men get hype up over ah loss in the big 5 final, cic men trolling endless pres websites/forums whining...why dem and all other trinis doh get worked up when the government do crap, or when they get real bad customer service. we will complain for ah 10 minutes then accept it and move on.

trinis good for a few things:
1) lime and fete
2) criticise other ppl when we have the same shortcomings (the "our shit dont stink" mentality)
3) get rile up over the unimportant stuff.

Akeem Adams might get a new heart by Christmas

Happy holidays: Akeem could get a new heart by Christmas
By Lasana Liburd (Wired868)

Former two-time Trinidad and Tobago World Youth Cup defender Akeem Adams is praying for the opportunity to celebrate Christmas in his Budapest apartment with his mother, Ancilla Dick, and brother, Akini, and, of course, a new heart and prosthetic leg.

The 22-year-old Adams, who is still hospitalised with an artificial, mechanical heart at the Varosmajori Heart Clinc, is improving steadily and sources close to the family told Wired868 that the Hungary-based defender is expected to be strong enough for a heart transplant within the next two weeks.

“He is in good spirits and his vital signs are good,” said the source. “Doctors are just waiting for his leg to heal properly because there is still spotting (where his limb was amputated)… They want to fit the leg right after the transplant while he is still under anaesthetic; so he will wake up from the operation with a prosthetic leg one time.”

Adams, a former Presentation College (San Fernando) student, suffered a massive heart attack on the night of 25 September 2013 while in his apartment and has been warded at ICU ever since. And, on 8 October, the talented left back had his left leg amputated from below the knee in his fourth life-saving operation at the Heart Clinic.

The “Soca Warrior”, who made his senior international debut at the tender age of 16, only moved to Budapest four months ago when he signed a one-year deal for top Hungarian club, Ferencvarosi, on August 7.

In just over a month, Adams started in six games for his new employer and the Hungarian club won five of them. Then, disaster struck.

Ferencvarosi has taken care of all Adams’ medical bills thus far and paid for his mother and brother to be flown to Budapest and housed at the player’s club apartment.

Adams will have to spend close to a year in Budapest, after his heart transplant, to receive after-care. But, at present, he cannot wait to be discharged and the club apartment is already being readied for his return.

“He is doing fine; but he is just bored,” said the source. “He said he spends his time watching football on television; England Premier League games, Dutch games, Hungarian games, classic football games…

“Once everything goes well with the transplant, he would be out of the hospital and he is excited about that… They are already preparing the house and sanitising his room and so on.”

Ancilla Dick gave up her job as a domestic worker to support her son through this traumatic period and her presence in Budapest was key since a family member needed to authorise Adams’ medical treatment.

His brother’s visa expires next month and an early discharge could allow the family some precious time before Akini returns to Trinidad. Akini is a T&TEC employee and plays for Pro League club Point Fortin Civic where he is back-up goalkeeper to “Soca Warrior” star Marvin Phillip.

After a thorough medical examination, Ferencvarosi allowed Akini to train with its first team during his stay in Budapest to keep his fitness levels up. However, Wired868 understands that the biting cold of the Hungarian winter has dulled Akini’s enthusiasm for the training ground.

Although Ferencvarosi provides accommodation in Budapest, Adams’ mother has relied largely on assistance from Trinidad and Tobago to meet the other expenses of her stay such as groceries, travel and phone calls.

Presentation College principal Dexter Mitchell gave Dick an unspecified donation before she left for Budapest while the family also benefitted from just over $15,000 from the Soca Warriors Online website and $10,000 from DIRECTV W Connection along with private contributions to her bank account.

Central FC, Adams’ last local club, will hand over $15,000 next week to the player’s local representative, Dion Sosa, which represents the players’ bonuses from their First Citizens Cup triumph matched by a similar donation by the club.

The Trinidad and Tobago Football Association (TTFA) also collected $72,500 from the sale of Native Spirit “I Support Akeem” tee-shirts and supporters who paid an extra $50 for match tickets for the Warriors’ friendly against New Zealand on October 15.

The effort was not without controversy as only $25 from each $100 Native Spirit tee-shirt went to Adams’ “Heart of a Warrior” fund, which was contrary to an earlier TTFA release.

Almost six weeks after the TTFA’s fund raiser, the local football body is yet to forward the money to the player’s family or representatives.

However, Adams has been touched by the overwhelming support he received in Hungary and from other parts of the globe.

Hundreds of football fans and well-wishers in Budapest donated blood to the former Point Fortin resident while Hungarian companies offered thousands of euros for his health care.

Brazil-born ex-Portugal international midfield star Deco, who won the European Champions League with Barcelona and Porto, also auctioned an autographed shirt for Adams from his last club, Fluminese.

Editor’s Note: Well-wishers can donate money directly to Akeem Adams’ family at any RBC branch by making a deposit for Ancilla Dick at account number #100085172658914.

Questions arise over Adams’ entry to Ferencvaros.

Questions arise over Adams’ entry to Ferencvaros.
By Stephen Nicholas (Newsday).

CONTROVERSY is brewing at the Ferencvaros Club in Hungary surrounding the decision by the premier division club to sign Trinidad and Tobago’s Akeem Adams earlier this year. Adams, 22-years-old, is currently warded at the Varosmajor Heart Clinic in Budapest recovering for a massive heart attack suffered over two months ago.

The former defender has had his lower left leg amputated on October 8 due to necrosis and is still awaiting a heart transplant. Ferencvaros have been supporting Adams fully since his unfortunate predicament, footing his medical expenses as well as paying for his mother and brother to stay in Hungary while he slowly recovers. They also have led the way in a blood donation drive for the former TT player and raised funds from the sale of tribute jerseys.

In addition, Ferencvaros’ fortunes have coincided with Adams’ ill-health, winning just one of their next eight league games and plummeting from second place in the standings to seventh spot.

Moniz seemed to have been hit hard by Adams’ situation, continually bringing it up during post match press conferences and how it has affected the team. And on Sunday the club parted ways with their Dutch manager Ricardo Moniz citing the poor run of form recently, collecting just six out of a possible 24 points.

Reports have emerged from the club’s medical team, though, that Moniz allegedly knew Adams had a family history of cardiovascular problems and did not disclose it to them. Akeems’ father died of a stroke at age 51 while his grandfather passed away at 34.

Doctor Zsolt Szelid, one of the doctors of Ferencvaros, reportedly told a Hungarian newspaper that the medical team of the club had suggested to not sign Adams after his first medical. They found some problems in his thigh and ankle — petrifaction — which would make the player prone to injury. And the doctor also said Moniz knew Akeem’s father had cardiovascular problems.

But in an interview with Nemzeti Sport Online, Moniz denied Szelid’s accusation. “Those who know me, know my players (come) first all the time...Do you think if I see that only half a percent chance (something could) be wrong, I (will) force anything! Akeem case of speaking, I had no idea that the player had a family history of any medical problems,” he declared.

“I do not want doctors to blame, but I have to acknowledge the current tests are not perfect...Everyone must be at the highest level of stress tests carried out so that similar tragedies do not happen,” he continued.

Meanwhile, speaking to Brent Sancho yesterday, the Managing Director of Central FC — Adams’ previous club — the former Soca Warriors player indicated that the Pro League club unearthed no such ankle or thigh problem when Adams did his medical at the club.

“He did a medical, but did not expose any problem. We did medicals with one or two players already and when it showed something was wrong we did not pursue our interest,” he explained.

Sancho did acknowledge, though, that the tests done by Ferencvaros may have been a bit more extensive than those conducted here. He noted though that he found it a bit surprising and suspicious that all this information is coming out in the open now.

Nevertheless, Sancho revealed that plans are afoot for a squad of former national players to visit Hungary in February next year to play a charity game against a team there to raise more funds for the former national player.

The real measure of a man's character is what he would do if he knew he would never be found out.

Akeem caught in ugly feud between Ferencvarosi and sacked manager
By Lasana Liburd (Wired868)

Trinidad and Tobago defender Akeem Adams’ relationship with his club, Ferencvarosi, and the Hungarian press is in the balance after the 22-year-old defender was unwittingly dragged into an explosive feud between the top flight Hungarian team and its former Portuguese manager Ricardo Moniz.
On Saturday evening after a 2-1 loss to Pecsi MFC, which was Ferencvarosi’s fourth successive home match without a win, Moniz surprised reporters in the subsequent press conference by accusing Adams’ medical staff of not doing enough for his leg.
There are conflicting reports as to whether Moniz suggested Adams’ leg might have been saved from amputation through medication or whether he alleged that its slow healing is due to a medical error. At present, the former two-time World Youth Cup defender is waiting for his leg to heal properly before he can have a heart transplant.
Adams’ left leg was amputated from below the knee on 8 October 2013 in his fourth life-saving operation at the Varosmajori Heart Clinic.
Ferencvarosi sacked Moniz within 48 hours of his rant against the medical staff.
“The board initiated today the termination of Ricardo Moniz’s contract due to the unsuccessful and completely disastrous performance of the last two months,” stated the club website, on Sunday December 1. “In the last eight matches, the team collected only six out of the possible maximum 24 points, which means a 24 percent performance. Thus, the change in management has proved to be inevitable.”
But while Ferencvarosi has said nothing more officially on Moniz’s accusations, its medical staff responded with a stinging counter-attack, which accused the former club manager of signing Adams against medical advice, hiding the player’s family history and fielding him while he was unfit.
In a press release to Hungarian publication, Nemzeti Sport, Ferencvarosi doctors Zsolt Szelid, Panics Gregory and Gabor Reha claimed that Moniz often overruled medical advice on club matters and signed Adams despite an existing thigh and ankle problem. The doctors also claimed that Adams failed five fitness tests during his playing stint with Ferencvarosi, which lasted less than two months.
It is worth noting that Ferencvarosi signed Adams and not Moniz. Therefore, if the doctors did recommend that Adams should not be hired, it was the club and not the manager who overruled them.

I know one thing, this has repercussions for future T&T signings to Europe especially after the club had to fork out all this money for Akeem. Future T&T signings will have to be fit like horse when going on trial and more so when undergoing intensive fitness tests before signing as the bar will be set higher with ten times more scrutiny.

They really say what in the dark does come to light, one can now understand why this club has been forking out so much money to take care of Adams.

Central has to consider themselves furtunate this did not happen to Adams while he was with them or even in T&T national team,i guess this situation will be an eye opener for the TTFA and local clubs,i know here is always some Doctor who is a friend of the club etc etc but we have to make sure these guys are getting proper medicals,we have a way we always looking at the cost but look at what this cost.

I don't see why this should have repercautions for our players going to Eurape,it's the policy of every club to do medical/physical tests on players before signing them,it's their fault if they don't do proper tests,it have Footballers droping down on fields during games and dieing and i'm sure they passed their medical/physical tests.

Akeem Adams falls into a coma

In God’s hands: Akeem falls into coma
By Lasana Liburd (Wired868.com)

Twenty-two year old former two-time World Youth Cup defender Akeem Adams slipped into a coma last night after suffering a massive stroke and is believed to now be outside the reach of medical science.

The Ferencvaros player, who had been waiting for a heart transplant for the past three months, suffered serious bleeding to his brain as a result of the stroke and, according to an informed source, doctors in Hungary said there is nothing more they can do for him.

“It seems like only a miracle could save him now,” said the source, who prefers to remain anonymous until Ferencvaros makes an official statement. “Even if he does come through, the damage to his brain could mean that he is not the same again. It is really horrible news.”

Adams suffered a massive heart attack three months ago, between the night of September 24 and the morning of September 25, and has since undergone at least four supposedly life-saving operations at the Varosmajori Heart Clinic in Budapest, including the insertion of a mechanical heart and the amputation of his left leg from below the knee in late September and early October respectively.

Adams’ health improved notably in November and doctors were fairly confident that the former Presentation College (San Fernando) student would have been strong enough for a heart transplant before Christmas. But the anticipated heart transplant never materialised as doctors continued to fret over the slow recovery of Adams’ left leg.

On Boxing Day, Adams spoke to friends and relatives in Trinidad and said he was in good spirits and that doctors expected to perform the transplant on 4 February 2013.
