The TTFA should donate part of the proceeds of the game against New Zealand to Akeem and appeal to the public to come out and support in numbers.

Further announcements will be made in due course relating to ticket prices, points of sale, as well as initiatives that will allow patrons attending the match to make contributions towards a fund to assist National Team defender Akeem Adams who is currently warded in ICU at the Varosmajori Heart Clinic in Hungary after suffering a heart attack last week and is awaiting a heart transplant.

Hungarian clubs support T&T defender
T&T Express Reports.

Adams needs more blood

Most of the Hungarian first division teams have shown their support for fallen Trinidad and Tobago defender Akeem Adams either by wearing T-shirts bearing the player’s name or displaying hangings with supportive words.

Adams’ teammate, Philipp Bönig said Adams’ injury is a devastating blow to everyone. And the club is calling for more blood donors as the time for a heart transplant approaches.

Trinidad and Tobago left defender Adams is fighting for his life after suffering a heart attack last week in Hungary where he plays for champions Ferencvárosi TC.

Adams remains at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Városmajori Heart Clinic, in the presence of his mother Ancilla Adams and brother Akini Adams. He has been fitted with a mechanical heart and is awaiting a heart transplant.

On Tuesday, Ferencvárosi TC gave a brief update on Adams’ condition and thanked fans and fellow clubs for their response. Hundreds of supporters have given blood.

“The club waits for more blood donors in the upcoming days also outside Budapest. Ferencvárosi Torna Club is grateful to receive the well-wishes and blood packets offered to our player,” Ferencvárosi said on its website. “Since last Thursday hundreds of not only our club’s supporters responded to the call to give blood to our 22-year-old player. Supporters, players, football team boards and people untouched by this sport.

“Outside Hungary’s borders, also Sepp Blatter, president of FIFA joined the growing crowd of well-wishers hoping for a complete recovery of Akeem Adams,” Ferencvárosi added.

Bönig believes Adams’ condition has had a negative effect on the team. They lost and drew matches they were expected to win, following a 3-1 victory over their main rivals, Újpest days before Adams collapsed.

“When we heard about Akeem’s tragedy we were under overwhelming shock. None of us have ever experienced something like this that one teammate had to fight all of a sudden for his life. It is going to be completely different without him but we are a mentally strong team. It is our duty now to fight for Akeem. We hope, we pray and we fight for him. That is the most we can do to help him recover.

“The team is still in the first three,” Bönig continued, “but it was defeated in the last round by Puskás Academy. That match had two sides. On the one hand, we received easy goals and created many chances and hit the bar three times, so we could have won. On the other hand, we weren’t concentrated enough. We need 100 per cent concentration to defeat any of our opponents. A match like the one against Puskás Academy cannot happen again.”

The real measure of a man's character is what he would do if he knew he would never be found out.

TTFA launches Akeem Adams heart of a Warrior fund.
By: Shaun Fuentes (TTFA).

Football Fans and Citizens will get their chance to contribute to Akeem Adams’ recovery following the announcement that purchasing a ticket to attend the upcoming Friendly International between Trinidad and Tobago and New Zealand will see a portion of the monies derived from sales going towards the Akeem Adams Heart of a Warrior fund that has been set up by the Trinidad and Tobago Football Association.

This was announced a press conference hosted by the TTFA at the Hasely Crawford Stadium VIP Lounge on Thursday.

Kick off time will be at 7:15pm on the Tuesday evening and tickets are reasonably priced at TT$75 uncovered, TT$100 covered stands and TT$125 for the Akeem Adams section.

Ticket will be available next week at a date to be announced at The Fan Club Sports Shop Movietowne, Port of Spain and Gulf City Shopping Mall, More Vino (Woodbrook and San Fernando) and The All Out Sports bar located at the Queen’s Park Oval as well as the Law 5 Sportsbar, Endeavour Road, Chaguanas. $50 from the $125 Akeem Adams section will go directly to the fund set up for the 22-year-old who continues to be warded in ICU at a hospital in Hungary after suffering a massive heart attack two weeks ago.

“Heart of a Warrior” T-shirts designed and made by Native Spirit will also be on sale prior to matchday and at the venue on matchday from which funds will go towards the cause.

“We came into this with the singular purpose of preparing the national team,” stated TTFA president Raymond Tim Kee of the New Zealand match. “But due to the unfortunate occurrence that occurred last week, it is now of dual purpose.”

Tim Kee added that Adams’ unfortunate circumstance has caused the TTFA to consider letting its legal department peruse any new contract offered by foreign club to local player and to include a basic stipulation that there must have full insurance coverage and protection for footballers before international clearance is granted.

“This young man (Adams)... I think his football playing days are over,” Tim Kee declared. “So, what next (for him). The TTFA intends to help him along the way.

Roberts calls for prayers for Adams.
T&T Newsday Reports.

SPORT Minister Anil Roberts yesterday called on the nation to send prayers to young Akeem Adams, the 22-year-old footballer who is still in need of a heart transplant.

Speaking at the post-Cabinet media briefing, Roberts said the Cabinet had taken steps to send a new passport to Akeem as his current passport has expired since he fell ill in Hungary after a practice session last week.

“The prayers of the entire Cabinet and the people of Trinidad and Tobago go out to our national footballer young Akeem Adams who is fighting for his life,” Roberts said.

“He has undergone several surgeries, he is receiving blood and he requires a heart transplant so we ask the nation to keep him in their prayers.”

Of Adam’s passport, Roberts said, “His passport was expiring so we are putting systems in place to attempt to get a renewal of his passport while he is out there. And if there are any further developments medically, we will keep the nation up to date.

But he has been receiving a lot of support from his football family out there.

People are coming in droves, including the fans of his football club (Hungarian premier division club Ferencvarosi) and those who saw him play, to donate blood.” Roberts said though Akeem has stabilised he is still in a critical situation.

Also at the press briefing, Roberts announced funding to the tune of $5 million for assisting sportsmen and sportswomen in a series of events due in 2014. These include: CAC Games; the Youth Olympic Games and the Commonwealth Games.

“The government continues to support our athletes before they get success,” he said.

Roberts denied a claim made by the Opposition that world champion hurdler Jehue Gordon was not properly funded by the State. The Minister said Gordon was given $300,000 and, in one instance, had a massage therapist flown to him at a cost of $36,000.

He said under the PP Government an average of $59 million has been allocated per year to sporting organisations, when compared with between $17 million and $35 million under the PNM.

Roberts also wished the Red Force cricket team good luck in today’s match against the Mumbai Indians.

“We also want, on a brighter note, to say congratulations to the Red Force cricket team and wish them luck as they go into the semi-finals of the campions league,” Roberts said.

The real measure of a man's character is what he would do if he knew he would never be found out.

Shouldn't be the case. With ballers travelling to all points far and wide (Kazakhstan, Vietnam, India, Hungary, etc.), they should be particularly mindful of not having a passport within 6 months of the date of expiry. Several consequences could flow from being abroad without a valid passport.

I was thinking the same damn thing.

Imagine my sister is Trini and becz she had a Brit passport with less than six months on it she couldn't come home for our sister's funeral she had to do a rush at the immigration office.

Like a born Trini go hide out in TT and not go back to the UK.

Shocking news about Akeem
« Reply #138 on: October 08, 2013, 03:22:34 AM »
Just received word from Ferencvarosi.

Akeem was forced to undergo emergency surgery last night....his 4th major operation.

Due to his heart condition, Akeem's circulation is very poor. This has resulted in mortification of tissue and muscle in his left leg. His condition became life threatening and the surgeon was forced to remove Akeems left leg from below the knee.

His condition is still critical with no date projected for him to receive a new heart.

I can't imagine what his family are going through.

I just feel sad, useless and shocked.

God, please watch over Akeem.
