 PowerGen opener Nicholas Sookdeosingh scored the first hundred of the 2014 National League Premier Division two-day competition, slamming an unbeaten 133 to lead his team to first innings points against Southern rivals First Citizens Clarke Road United on the first day of their opening match at Wilson Road Ground in Penal yesterday.
Sookdeosingh, who started the 2013 season with a double hundred, led the defending champions to 191 for five at the close yesterday after his teammate, left-arm spinner Kavesh Kantasingh grabbed six for 62 off 27 as Clarke Road slipped from 79 for two to 149 all out.

NICHOLAS SOOKDEOSINGH, one of the most prolific batsmen in the local cricket circuit over the past few years, began the 2014 National Cricket League Premier Division season with a century as Powergen took the upper- hand over neighbours Clarke Road United yesterday.

Action was in the first day of the two-day Round One phase, at Wilson Road in Penal.

The left-handed Sookdeosingh posted an unbeaten 133 as Powergen, in response to Clarke Road’s 147, ended the day on 191/5. Kissoondath Magram got 2/47 for Clarke Road.

Earlier, Clarke Road were bowled out for 149 with ex-national left-arm spinner Kavesh Kantasingh claiming 6/62. Clarke Road got contributions from Vinod Siew (41), Sean Siloch (32), Adrian Ali (24) and Ranga Lachana (21).

Defending national two-day champions Powergen got the new campaign off to a winning start, as spin bowler Ancil Bhagan carved his way through the Clarke Road batting to give his team a five-wicket win yesterday at the Wilson Road Recreation Ground in round one.
 
Resuming on 191/5 in its first innings, Powergen got to 228 all out, a healthy lead of 79 runs. Nicholas Sookdeosingh, who started the day on 133, was dismissed for 150, while Kisoondath Magram (4/57) and Mukesh Persad (4/43) both took four wickets for Clarke Road.
 
Bhagan then went on a rampage, grabbing 8/36 to bowl out Clarke Road for 138. Ryan Ramdass fought hard for Clarke Road, scoring 60. Chasing a meagre 60 to win, Powergen stumbled its way to 62/5 as Gregory Mahabir finished on an unbeaten 27.
 
At the Queen’s Park Oval, Parkites all-rounder Daron Cruickshank was effective with both bat and ball to give Queen’s Park a comfortable eight-wicket win over Moosai. Cruickshank scored 87 in the first innings and ended with match figures of 6/32.
 
Also recording outright wins were Esmeralda, Comets, Munroe Road and Merry Boys.

What is the deal with Sookdeosingh.

How old is he?
Has he played for TT or the WI at youth level?

He seems to be a promising player.
