What the hell! That's major news and huge money. Looks like football could move back to the community a little better in the future

Carapichaima gets new ground
T&T Express Reports.

A spanking new pavilion is the centrepiece at the Korea Recreation Ground, Korea Village, Carapichaima.

Thanks to the Ministry of Sport’s implementation arm, the Sports Company of Trinidad and Tobago, the breezy ground in Central Trinidad can now accommodate spectators and community groups in a comfortable environment as they look out at the levelled and re-grassed outfield, suitable for cricket and football.

Anil Roberts, Minister of Sport, commended the work of SporTT saying, “The work to upgrade community facilities goes on at a steady rate.

“This ground in Korea is one that can be the catalyst for improved community sport organisation.

“This is all part of the Government’s efforts in all sectors to develop safe spaces where sporting talent can be nurtured and where critical family and community ties can be forged.”

The facility was handed over to the Couva/Tabaquite/Talparo Regional Corporation recently.

The Corporation will now be responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of the facility and outfield, and guide the villagers on how it can best be utilised to serve their needs.

Korea Recreation Ground is the latest in a series of handovers which the Ministry of Sport intends to conduct during the year.

DIRECTV refurbishes Woodford Lodge.
T&T Express Reports.

Chaguanas-based DIRECTV  has given back something to the people of the area through the refurbishment of  the Woodford Lodge recreational ground.

The Chaguanas community recreation ground is used by  both sports clubs and  neighbourhood children, and was  in dire need of a facelift.

The company renovated the facility through the Rock, Paper, Scissors initiative,  a community outreach programme using  staff, volunteers and friends to complete a charitable project that gives back to a community.

The last time DIRECTV reached out to a community through the Rock, Paper, Scissors initiative was in 2010, when a retirement home in Chaguanas was re-painted and spruced up with new furniture and landscaping work.

The  Woodford Lodge project  was completed in three days between April 9 and 11. The facility was painted and donated seats washed and installed.

Giving a helping hand were Joevin Jones and Leonson Lewis of the DIRECTV W Connection Football Club and Brent Sancho of Central FC.

Chaguanas Mayor Gopaul Boodhan endorsed the  project and was present as well.

The real measure of a man's character is what he would do if he knew he would never be found out.
