Club Sando win away from Super crown.
T&T Guardian Reports.

Kevon Woodley banged in a second-half double to lead Club Sando to a 5-1 thrashing of Siparia Spurs in their top-of-the-table Group A “Big Eight” match to climb to within a point of T&T Football Association National Super League crown on Sunday.

Devon Modeste opened the scoring for Club Sando in the 29th minute at the Mannie Ramjohn Stadium, Marabella for a 1-0 half-time lead before Woodley netted a quick brace, in the 55th and 62nd to put the match beyond doubt.

Former national youth player Jack Weedon extended the lead to 4-0 in the 86th while Kerwin Baptiste pulled one back for Spurs in the 89th, only for Keith Williams to net a fifth for Club Sando on the stroke of full-time.

By Nigel Simon (Guardian).

Starting Sunday’s penultimate round of matches with maximum 15 points from five matches, five more than Spurs and Defence Force, Club Sando only needed a draw and its two main rivals to slip up to lift the crown.

However, hosts Petrotrin Palo Seco stunned the visitors when Corey Cyrus banged in the opener in the 26th.

But just when it seemed Petrotrin Palo Seco would take the lead into the break, Modeste drew Club Sando level, and in the second-half, Charles got the decisive item in the 68th to secure the three points. The win carried Club Sando to maximum 18 points from six matches, seven clear of Defence Force and eight ahead of Spurs with a match left for each club.

Defence Force was held 1-1 by Guaya United at Guaya to move to 11 points, while Spurs were blanked 3-0 by former champions, WASA at Fyzabad Recreation Ground in the other Group A matches played. Meanwhile, in the Group B “Relegation Big-Eight” round-robin series previous top two, FC Santa Rosa and D’Lime Goal City were both beaten.

At the Maracas Recreation Ground, Real Maracas pipped Goal City 2-1 to go trop of the seven-team table with nine points from five matches, the same as FC Santa Rosa, which has a match in hand and superior goal-difference.

Over in Tobago, Bethel United blanked FC Santa Rosa 2-0 to hand the latter its first loss in four matches while Stokely Vale joined Las Lomas and Bethel United with six points after crushing Malabar 7-0 at Plymouth.

At the end of the six-match round-robin schedule, the bottom two clubs will join already relegated Joe Public as teams heading back to their respective zonal association competitions at the expense of the three teams to be promoted from the T&T Football Association “Champion of Champions” competition.

Intriguing battle to avoid relegation in Super League
Tobago News

The curtain will come down on the National Super League which commenced last year on Sunday with the final round of games in both the first and second tier of the Second Phase of the Tournament.

Teams in the first tier are battling for lucrative cash prizes, while teams in the second tier are in a dogfight to avoid relegation.

The battle to avoid relegation may be decided today according to what happened in the games which were played last Wednesday. However, up to presstime the results of these games were not available.

Malabar FC with one point will definitely be returning to their zone, but four teams including the three Tobago teams; D’Lime Bar Goal City, Stokely Vale and Bethel United must win their two remaining games or one or both of them will be returning to the Tobago Football League.

Today (Sunday) Stokely Vale FC will be at home against D’Lime Bar Goal City at the Plymouth Recreation Ground. Both teams must win this game to have a hope of returning.

D’Lime Bar Goal City are on seven points and Stokely Vale on six, while Bethel United which are also on six points will entertain Coosal Las Lomas.

Last Sunday, Bethel United upset Santa Rosa FC 2-1, while the Stokely Vale powered their way past Malabar FC 7-0 and D’Lime Bar Goal City were edged 2-1 by Real Maracas.

Against Malabar FC, Stokely Vale entertained their home crowd with a good brand of attacking football and solid defence as they were in total control from start to finish.

They got their first goal from Trevonne James after six minutes when he collected a loose ball and scored. Five minutes later, Krishawn Joseph hit a bullet from a difficult angle to beat the goalkeeper and in the 33rd minute Travis Winchester hit a rocket from about 30 metres out that flew into the net. In the 44th minute Dominic McDugal scored to give his team a four -nil half time lead.

On the resumption, Phoenix continued to dominate their opponents and scored three more goals, a double from Omar Charles, while James completed his brace with a 73rd minute item.

Bethel held their opponent, Santa Rosa FC up to the 73rd minute, but two goals in four minutes gave the visitors the victory at at the Mt Pleasant Recreation Ground.

Real Maracas stopped D’Lime Bar Goal City 2-1. Akini Ferguson scored for the losers.

In the First Tier 1976 Phoenix FC which were idle last Sunday are on seven points the same as WASA FC with a game in hand. They played NLCB La Horquetta in Trinidad last Wednesday and will be at home to table toppers, Club Sando today (Sunday). An upset victory today will give them a top four finish.
The Conquering Lion of Judah shall break every chain.
