Charges against 13 dismissed*Accused of being in gang that killed Dana...http://www.trinidadexpress.com/20160527/news/charges-against-13-dismissedCHANTS of “Allahu Akbar” echoed through the Port of Spain Magistrates' Court yesterday afternoon after charges against 13 people who were accused of being members of the gang allegedly responsible for the murder of Senior Counsel Dana Seetahal were dismissed based on an error by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
Senior Magistrate Indrani Cedeno dismissed the charges which were laid under the Anti-Gang Legislation, stating it would be unlawful for the State to continue the prosecution given that the charges were wrongly laid and that it would be an injustice to the accused.
However, despite the charges being dismissed, only one man–David Ector–was allowed to walk out the court as a free man after the magistrate refused to grant an application by the Office of the DPP to have the charges amended. Ector, Deon Peters and Stacey Ali were all charged with being gang members but not with Seetahal's murder.
