East Zone Under-15 skipper Kirstan Kallicharan slammed an unbeaten 108 and took two wickets for 24 runs to put his team on top against South East on the first day of the BG T&T Under-15 InterZone final at Ins han Ali Park, Preysal, yesterday.
Kallicharan’s ton, which came off 96 balls and included one six and 12 fours, helped East recover from eight for two in the fifth over to post a competitive 185 for three off their 37-over first innings.

In reply, South East were restricted to 101 off 30.4 overs, conceding a first innings deficit of 84. The only batsmen to reach double figures for South East were captain Cephas Cooper, who hit 56 off 71 balls, and Brandon Singh, who made 19 off 24. Nathaniel McDavid was the best bowler for East, grabbing three for 35.
Earlier, when East won the toss and batted first, South East pacer Avinash Roopnarine struck early to send back openers Leonardo Julien (one) and Kyle John (five) in the first six over before Kallicharan and Nathaniel McDavid (29) put on 77 for the third wicket.
Kallicharan then shared an unbroken 108-run fourth-wicket stand with Teshawn Alleyne (33 not out) to put his team in command.

Kallicharan was dropped twice, first by Sebastian Emmanuel at long off, off of Avinash Mahabirsingh’s bowling when he was on 62, and then by Brandon Maharaj at backward square, off the same bowler when he was on 85, before getting to his fourth century of the tournament with a four to wide long on.
East were 25 for one at stumps yesterday, extending their lead to 109. They will resume their second innings at 10 a.m. today.
