T&T youth captains benefit from leadership seminar

The Trinidad and Tobago Under-15 cricket captain Kirstan Kallicharan, Under-17 skipper Bryan Boodram and Under-19 leader Jeremy Solozano all got another lesson is leadership last Saturday.
They all took part in the Zaheer Ali Foundation seminar titled “Shaping and Moulding our Future Leaders”, which was geared towards making them better leaders on and off the field.
The seminar was held at the T&T Cricket Board (TTCB) headquarters in Balmain Couva with TTCB president Azim Bassarath and first vice president Allen Sammy fully endorsing and commended the Zaheer Ali Foundation for the initiative which, according to the president is the first of its kind in Trinidad and Tobago.
The TTCB recently celebrated having three Trinidad players captaining three regional teams and the Bassarath-led administration is determined to keep churning out future potential leaders.
T&T have Denesh Ramdin as West Indies Test captain, Dwayne Bravo as One-day skipper and Marissa Aguilera as Women’s captain and Ali believes it is imperative that “we adopt measures that will seek to achieve this objective in an attempt to ensure the future success of our regional and national teams but more importantly, to pave the way for succession planning.”
“In light of the challenges we face as a nation, where our youths are concerned, such an approach would not only develop them as leaders in the field of cricket but as individuals who would possess the necessary skills and knowledge to lead in other aspects of life and for overall development,” Ali added.
The seminar, which also featured other potential leaders from the various TTCB zonal youth teams, focused on emotional competence, motivation, goal setting, communication, importance of effective leadership and the attributes of a successful leader in terms of inspiring others.
The seminar was conducted in three phases comprising both theory and practical exercises which was executed by facilitators which included World Bank scholarship winner Haleema Ali-Sisbane, Karen Moonesar (MBA) and former West Indies youth captain Ali who holds a Bachelor of Laws degree.
