I want to remind some of our members who think foreign = better. Not because a T&T player plays in foreign means he is better than a local based player. Not because he is foreign based mean he deserves a place on the team. Not because he is foreign based mean he must get a chance.

Same measuring stick we use for local players getting a chance on the team should be used for foreign based players.

I would find it very surprising if foreign based players will be allowed/able to leave their club/school for two months. This will certainly cause problems for Pro League clubs too. And, of course, guys still playing school football.

Arseholery!!! Tournament starts in January and is only November when TTFA begin preparations? Any serious nation would be preparing their teams for at least a six months. This team could have been sent halfway around the world and back with money wasted on a single contract by LifeSport alone.

I wish them the best of luck. They are going to need it.

Yes, it would have been nice to have more practice games. But the TTFA don't have the money to do all the things other FAs can do. That is the best they can do until all this bakanal over, if ever. . I hope that itinerary is followed. I hope they don't say because of lack of funds we had to drop this or that portion of the programme. Good luck.

U-20s for Mexico camp ahead of Concacaf finals
T&T Guardian Reports.

Former Queen’s Royal College standout and national Under-20 captain Duane Muckette and Jerren Nixon Jr, the son of former national striker Jerren Nixon, are two of seven players based in the USA set to join the national youth team squad in preparations for next month’s Concacaf Under-20 Championship in Jamaica.

The team coached by ex-national defender and senior team assistant coach Derek King will have a local live-in camp from December 9-15 ahead of their departure for Mexico for another camp from Deecmber 16-23 and then a third and final camp from December 27-January 4 in Tobago.

A day later, the team will depart for the 12-team Concacaf Championship to be staged from January 9-24, next year.

The young Soca Warriors, who captured the Caribbean Football Union Under-20 title on home soil in September via a 3-0 win over Haiti have been grouped with host Jamaica, USA, Panama, Guatemala and Aruba

T&T will open against host Jamaica at the National Stadium in Kingston on January 9 followed by matches against Aruba (January 11), Guatemala (January 14) and Panama (January 18) before ending round-robin play against USA three days later.

The National Stadium in Kingston and the Montego Bay Sports Complex will each play host to Group A matches, while the latter venue hosts all the action in Group B, and the final phase on January 24.

Group B comprises Mexico, the two-time defending Concacaf Under-20 champions; Cuba, Canada, El Salvador, Honduras and Haiti and and the end of the tournament four teams will qualify to the FIFA Under-20 World Cup New Zealand 2015. Mexico are two-time defending Concacaf Under-20 champions, having claimed the title in Puebla, Mexico in 2013 and in Guatemala City in 2011.

The top team from each group after round-robin play advances to the World Cup, and the second and third place nations from each group advance to the final day knockout phase, with the chance to dispute one of a pair of play-in matches which will determine Concacaf's other two World Cup spots.

Speaking yesterday, King said he was looking forward to having Muckette back after his injury spell along with the other players inclusive of Switzerland-born Jerren Nixon Jr, the son of former prolific national striker Jerren Nixon and Kathy-Ann Nixon.

Prior to the CFU Under-20 tournament, Muckette suffered a torn MCL while in training with the University of South Florida, and has since recoverd while the younger Nixon, who is attached to US Major League Soccer’s Philadelphia Union’s Academy, was born in Swizterland while his father plied his trade with top club FC Zurich during the

The other overseas-based players called into the camp include midfielder Andre Fortune, goalkeeper Johan Welch of Houston Dynamo Juniors and former Fatima College duo, Brendon Creed and Leland Archer, all of whom were part of the Under-17 team which came within one win of qualifying for the FIFA Under-17 World Cup held last year in United Arab Emirates.

With regards to the finalisation of the team’s training over the Christmas holidays, King said, “This afternoon (yesterday) I am having a meeting with William Wallace and Anthony Harford to map out our plans for the camps.

“For the fist camp in T&T we are expecting all the overseas guys to be with us and then we will select a group of players to take to the camp in Mexico from December 16 to 23 during which time we are set face the Mexico Under-20 team twice and a top Mexican club as well.”

Following the camp is Mexico, the players will have three days off to spend with their familes before regrouping on December 27 for another camp in Tobago until January 5, their departure for Jamaica.

Asked how he intends to get the local players available from their clubs, King a former coach of the now defunct Joe Public which he led to five titles in one season said he will be communicating with the locals clubs to which the players are attached too.

“We know its asking a lot of the clubs, but we are hoping that they see the benifits of it for the players as well as T&T as team,” ended King.

Other teams who have already stepped up their preparations are Canada and USA who are involved in camps in Europe while Guatemala recently a camp at is Project Goal Facilities in Guatemala City.

U-20 men hope to continue momentum of Women Warriors campaign
T&T Express Reports.

THE Trinidad and Tobago Football Association’s international programme will continue for the remainder of the year into 2015 with the Men’s Under 20 team now taking the focus as they prepare for the final round of 2015 FIFA Under 20 World Cup qualification.

Crowned Caribbean Champions after a facile 3-0 victory over Haiti in Port of Spain in September, the Derek King-coached team resumed training at the Hasely Crawford Stadium on Thursday and will look ahead to a proposed training camp in Mexico later this month before returning home two days before Christmas Day. The camp is not yet finalised but once it is, will include two warm-up matches against Mexico’s national Under 20 Team and another against a Mexican club.

TTFA National Teams Operations Manager William Wallace said arrangements are being finalised to ensure the team has sufficient preparations ahead of the tournament which kicks off in Kingston, Jamaica on January 9. The TTFA is working alongside the Ministry of Sport and the Sportt Company in relation to the team’s campaign.

King said his team was looking to build off the momentum of the senior women’s team which saw a full Hasely Crawford Stadium witness Tuesday’s FIFA Women’s World Cup Qualifier with Ecuador. “We’ve resumed preparations with the majority of players back home including those who were on trial in Europe. We’ve got roughly a month before the tournament and we’ll be focusing now on getting the boys ready  for the final stage,” King  told TTFA Media.

“There is a positive vibe now for local football with the impact created by the Women’s Team and we are really looking to feed off that and keep that within our team and our efforts to get to the Under 20 World Cup. This is the future of our men’s football. I believe the Mexico training camp will be beneficial to us and we’ll be in good shape for the qualifiers next month”

Vice captain Neveal  Hackshaw is also optimistic at the moment. “We were all sad when the Women’s team lost the Ecuador game but it was a great to see the public support them and support football on a whole. I think it’s a good wake up call for us on the men’s side as well. We realise that the country wants to see positive things from the football and it’s up to us now to work hard and get the right results,” Hackshaw said.

“The tournament in Jamaica will not be easy because we are facing the big teams from the region but I don’t think we’ll be intimidated. We have a good squad and the players are very hungry for success,” he added.

T&T  will open the CONCACAF final round of qualification against hosts Jamaica in Kingston on January 9. The Junior “Soca Warriors” are in Group A along with  Jamaica, Aruba, Panama, the United States and Guatemala. Group B includes Haiti, Canada, Mexico, Cuba, Honduras and El Salvador, in order of position drawn. The tournament will crown the Confederation champion at this age level, and qualify four teams to the FIFA Under-20 World Cup New Zealand 2015.

The top team from each group after round-robin play advances to the World Cup, and the second and third place nations from each group advance to the final day knockout phase, with the chance to dispute one of a pair of play-in matches which will determine CONCACAF’s other two World Cup spots, as stated by CONCACAF.

The Trinidad and Tobago men’s under-17 team is also preparing for the CONCACAF final round of qualification for the 2015 FIFA U-17 Men’s World Cup in Chile. Head coach Shawn Cooper and manager Christopher Gouveia will head to San Pedro Sula on the weekend for the final round draw on Tuesday.

The real measure of a man's character is what he would do if he knew he would never be found out.

Either yesterday or today was/is the submission deadline for the preliminary squad. How many names are on our list? Was one published? The newspaper articles mention some participants, but is there a comprehensive list?

So they did not enter camp yesterday. They are instead expecting to start today. Think many of the players had game yesterday, some double header?

Money woes threaten U-20 camp.
By Nigel Simon (Guardian).

Following on from the recent financial problems faced by the national senior men and women’s Soca Warriors, this country’s Under-20 footballers face a wait and see approach today with regards to a planned training camp and warm-up matches in Mexico.

The camp is in preparation for next month’s Concacaf Under-20 Championship in Jamaica from January ninth to 24. The main problem is funding. The team needs $750,000 to confirm participation in the camp.

T&T FA operations manager William Wallace said arrangements were being finalised to ensure the team has sufficient preparations ahead of the tournament. The TTFA is working alongside the Ministry of Sport and the Sportt Company.

The Under-20 men’s football team, recent winners of the CFU Under-20 Championship are currently involved in the first of three live-in camp and are expected to depart for Mexico on Wednesdayfor the second camp before returning home on December 23.

The players will regroup on December 27 for the third and final camp before heading off to Kingston, Jamaica to face host Jamaica, USA, Panama, Guatemala and Arabia in their Group A matches.

Speaking yesterday, Wallace said final preparations for the team’s proposed camp in Mexico were yet to be confirmed and he was hoping to have a final reply today on whether the camp was on or off.

“We are supposed to pay for accommodations and flights which have already been booked, but we still have to await the $782,000 from relevant authorities. If we dont get any positive feedback with regards the funds, then I don’t see the Mexico-leg of the camp taking place.”

Reached for comment, King noted that should the Mexico leg be called-off, he and his technical staff will have to find an alternative that can bring the same results.

“Our plans are to play two matches against Mexico Under-20 who will enter next month’s tournament as defending Concacaf and World Champions, and also play a match against a top Mexican club which will provide a good test.

With regards to the ongoing training sessions, King said he was relatively pleased with the attitude of the players.

“We have most of the guys back home with the exception of Under-17 captain Brendon Creed, goalkeeper Johan Welch and Ricardo John who are expected to join us in Mexico once we get the green-light for the camp.

National Under-20 captain Duane Muckette is expected to join us today (yesterday) while Jerren Nixon Jr, the son of former national striker Jerren Nixon Jr and Fatima College’s Leland Archer, have linked up with the group.”

The top team from each group after round-robin play advances to the World Cup, and the second and third place nations from each group advance to the final day knockout phase, with the chance to dispute one of a pair of play-in matches which will determine Concacaf's other two World Cup spots at the FIFA Under-20 World Cup New Zealand 2015.

Didn't the TTFA just got 10 million from the T&T government?

Didn't the TTFA just benefitted from a sold out stadium on December 2nd?

So where is the money?

Sheldon taking the money to pay Waldrum, Lincoln and his $21,000 US appartment.

You guys will see I was correct when I said that when Sheldon and Tim Kee is finished with the TTFA and T&T tax payers money T&T will be left flat.

They are waiting again for government help again and they just got that.

What a bunch of lost fools, Sheldon will have a big meeting and only talk and no one listens to this clown because he doesn't know how to run the federaton, utilize the money and generate new income, he wants people and the government to just blindly give them money.

I spoke to the Under 17 coach the other day also and he told me that the TTFA already complaining about money and camp.

There are more managers, coaches and staff than there is players.

And all of them getting their money while the players suffering.

The government paid the players and staff and not the FA.

That money they give was owed and was given to them directly and specifically for the senior team.

There is a different budget for the other teams.

Its very expensive to run all teams, even a sell out stadium cant do much or sustain for long even if it does.

U-20s Concacaf prep dealt blow.
By Nigel Simon (Guardian).

Mexico camp called off

Barring a last minute miracle, the proposed training camp to Mexico for T&T’s Under-20 footballers ahead of next month’s Concacaf Under-20 Championship in Jamaica has been called off.

The camp was scheduled to begin on Wednesday in preparation for the tournament which will be held from January 9-24 next year.

The Under-20 men’s football team, recent winners of the CFU Under-20 Championship are currently involved in the first of three live-in camps and were expected to depart for Mexico on Wednesday for the second camp before returning home on December 23.

However, that camp is now off and the team will instead hold an extended camp in Florida, USA, early next month before heading off to Kingston, Jamaica to face host Jamaica, USA, Panama, Guatemala and Arabia in their Group A matches.

This was stated by T&T Football Association operations manager William Wallace in a telephone interview when contacted on the request for $782,000 from the Ministry of Sports to cover the team’s travel and accommodation expenses during the camp.

In fact, when contacted, Wallace said he was hoping it was a call from a Ministry of Sport official telling him that the funding would be released.

He said: “As of this moment we have not heard anything as yet with regards to the financial request made and we are not able to confirm any flight arrangements or hotel accommodation.”

Wallace added: “The travel agency we are working with had informed us that they would be holding our bookings until Friday (today) and after that it would be very difficult for us to get flights back into Trinidad by December 23, because of the very busy Christmas season.

“So at the moment, our management team are in a real dilemma, but at the same time we clearly understand the Ministry of Sport, because they have been very supportive towards our requests and if on this occasion they cannot fund it, then we will just have to look at alternatives.

Asked what were some of the alternatives, Wallace said: “The technical staff have been holding some discussions and we have already planned a camp for Fort Lauderdale from December 31 where we have scheduled matches against two of the teams in the other qualifying group.

“So will now try and get to Florida a day or two earlier and try and get in another match, because we were looking forward to playing two matches against the Mexico Under-20 team and a top club team there, but that has now been shelved.”

With regards to the Florida camp, Wallace said the T&TFA had already had some meetings with corporate companies to come on board and try and help fund the camp and so far things are looking positive.

Today, the team, which is currently in a live-in camp at the University of West Indies, St Augustine, will continue their preparations with a training session at Hasely Crawford Stadium, Mucurapo, from 7.30 am followed by a run tomorrow at Chancellor Hill.

Expected to join the team for his first session is former national Under-20 captain Duane Muckette, while Jerren Nixon Jr, the son of former national striker Jerren Nixon Jr, has already linked up with the group, along with former Fatima College student Leland Archer.

Former Under-17 captain Brendon Creed, goalkeeper Johan Welch and Ricardo John are expected to join the team over the next week.

Group B of the Concacaf Championship comprises Mexico, the two-time defending Concacaf Under-20 champions; Cuba, Canada, El Salvador, Honduras and Haiti. At the end of the tournament, four teams will qualify to the Fifa Under-20 World Cup in New Zealand in 2015. Mexico are two-time defending Concacaf Under-20 champions.

The top team from each group after round-robin play advances to the World Cup, and the second and third place nations from each group advance to the final day knockout phase, with the chance to dispute one of a pair of play-in matches which will determine Concacaf’s other two World Cup spots at the FIifa Under-20 World Cup.

The real measure of a man's character is what he would do if he knew he would never be found out.

Question ?  As an option is it not possible  to have  venezuela's  under 20's  come over to TnT  in order to play a couple of warm up  games which should serve vital for  our team's preparation,  as venezuela being   close in proxmity to Trinidad??   or even a camp in venezuela ...  i sure hope something useful works out  before the team leaves for jamaica ....!!
