VIDEO: MICHELLE-LEE AHYE 60M RACE FROM MADRID...

MLA came in night before her race in Madrid lost her luggage and didn't have anything to compete in but still found a way to be on that start line and to win the final in 7.19.

To answer your question MLA ran 7.10 before in 2014 and has held the Indoor 60m NR since then.
Tonight she equalled her PB and the Indoor 60m NR which she holds.

This is a good sign for her at the Portland Indoor World Championships. If MLA can stay healthy and make the Final and can keep her current form or even improve then she could medal. However MLA will probably need to set a new 60m PB and NR in the Final if she plans to medal as Dafne Schippers, Marie-Josee Ta Lou & a few others probably plan to run faster than 7.10 in the 60m Final if/when they get there.

MLA's start is improving though. Have a look at her 60m performances from this weekend at this link:
http://www.ceskatelevize.cz/porady/10151523196-atletika/216471291019101-jablonec-indoor-gala-2016/

Go to 3:15 in recording for MLA in her 60m Heat in which she clocked 7.11 for MR
Go to 68:50 in recording for MLA in her 60m Final in which she clocked 7.10 for another MR and ePB
Go to 75:45 in recording for MLA being interviewed after winning 60m Final.

Michelle-Lee Ahye: T&T 60m Indoor National Record Holder being interviewed after Final

Michelle-Lee Ahye equalled her own national record at the Jablonec Indoor Gala, in the Czech Republic, yesterday. The Trinidad and Tobago track star stopped the clock at 7.10 seconds to grab women’s 60 metres gold, matching the time she had produced in the semifinal round at the World Indoor Championships in Sopot, Poland, two years ago.

Though unchallenged in yesterday’s dash, Ahye was able to produce her best. Her closest challenger in the championship race was Maja Mihalinec, the Slovenian snatching silver in 7.24 seconds. Germany’s Lisa Mayer bagged bronze in 7.35.
Ahye signalled a warning in the qualifying round, winning heat one in a fast 7.11 seconds. She followed up with an even faster run in the final.

Ahead of the Jablonec Indoor Gala, Ahye was joint-eighth on the 2016 world indoor performance list at 7.12 seconds. Yesterday’s 7.10 scorcher pushed her up to joint-sixth, alongside Great Britain’s Asha Philip.

Dutchwoman Dafne Schippers is at the top of the global list at 7.00 seconds. Ivory Coast sprinter Marie Josee Ta Lou is second with a 7.06 clocking, while Poland’s Ewa Swoboda and German Tatjana Pinto are joint-third at 7.07. American Barbara Pierre (7.09) is fifth.

Ahye has been very busy this season, competing 13 times in the 60m dash and three times in the 200m. At the end of her first meet, in Texas, USA, on December 12, the 23-year-old sprinter was the world-leader in both events--7.14 in the 60m and 23.19 in the longer sprint. She is currently joint-10th on the global 200m performance list with that 23.19 run.

Ahye runs in record time 7.09 seconds

Michelle-Lee Ahye versus her rivals in 60m Dash at IAAF World Indoor Champs 2016

T&T sprinter Michelle-Lee Ahye set a new national record of 7.09 seconds to make it into the semi-finals of the women’s 60 metres at the IAAF World Indoor Championships at the Oregon Convention Centre in Portland, USA, yesterday.

Ahye won heat four with ease, finishing ahead of Britain’s Dina Asher-Smith (7.12) and Gloria Hooper of Italy, who ran a personal best of 7.29 to take the final automatic qualification spot.

“I’m very happy about it. I was expecting it to happen, but not in the first round,” Ahye was quoted saying on the IAAF website.

Kelly-Ann Baptiste ran her season’s best 7.20 to finish third in the first heat of the dash which was good enough to take her into the semi-finals and hopefully into the final. Both races were scheduled for last night.

Quartermilers Deon Lendore and Lalonde Gordon both advance to the final of the men’s 400m event. Lendore crossed second in the first semi-final in a time of 46.23. He followed Grenadian Bralon Taplin (45.38) to the line with Kenya’s Boniface Mweresa running a season’s best of 46.33 to take the third and the final qualification spot.

Gordon held on for third in the second semi-final in a time of 46:03 to nab his place in the final.  He was also quoted as saying afterwards: “There’s still work to do.” With both Gordon and Lendore making the finals of the men's 400m dash, which was set for late last night, the quartet of Rondell Sorrillo, Jarrin Solomon, Ade Alleynne Forte and Machel Cedenio, in that order did well to advance to the final of the men's 4x400m relay when they finished third in heat one in a time of 3:07.83. The final is set for this evening.

Sorrillo failed to progress out of the 60m event, placing sixth in 6.68 in the first semifinals heat. Eventual winner was Trayvon Bromell, who became the first US athlete to claim the men’s world indoor 60m title in six years with a personal best of 6.47.

Bromell, who almost didn't make it through to the final at last weekend's US Indoor Championships after finishing fourth in his semifinal, was the first man out of the blocks in lane three and maintained his lead throughout to prevail over Jamaica’s Asafa Powell (6.50) and Ramon Gittens of Barbados (6.51), respectively.

Over on the field, Ayanna Alexander fouled on all three her attempts in the women’s triple jump event. Yulimar Rojas only got in one valid jump but it was all that was needed for the Spain-based jumper, coached by Cuban long jump great Ivan Pedroso, to get Venezuela’s first world indoor title. Her second round effort of 14.41m notched up her country’s first medal at this competition of any hue.

Late last night, “Sportswoman of the Year” Cleopatra Borel was to compete in the final of the women's shot put and hurdler Mikel Thomas will be hoping to clear all his hurdles to get into the semifinals when he was to run in lane two of heat four.

Ahye to release official statement
By Narissa Fraser (Newsday).

IN a now-deleted Instagram post, the wife of TT athlete Michelle-Lee Ahye, Chelsea Renee, shared what appears to be a mugshot of Ahye with the caption, "Just because I have time today." (Some comments deleted.) I pray God gives me the strength to get through this time in my life. I don't regret anything in my life but marrying you was most definitely one of them."

The account has also since been deactivated.

The couple were married in May 2018 in the US.

Speaking with Newsday, Ahye's manager Afeisha Wright said an official statement on the social media post will be made via the athlete's Facebook page this afternoon.

In 2018, Ahye won gold in the women’s 100-metre final at the Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia, becoming the first TT athlete to do so. She also won the women’s 200 metre "B" race at the Spitzen Leichtathletik track meet in Switzerland on Tuesday.

The real measure of a man's character is what he would do if he knew he would never be found out.

Trinidad and Tobago Commonwealth sprint Champion Michelle Lee Ahye is speaking out after her arrest in Texas went viral on social media. In a Facebook post Ahye explains no charges were laid against her despite the arrest.  However the Williamson County Sheriff's office in Texas says she was charged with assault.

She WAS charged….

NARISSA FRASER

TT OLYMPIC athlete Michelle-Lee Ahye has been charged with domestic violence in the US.

Ahye was charged with ‘assault causes bodily injury, family violence’. Speaking with Newsday, Public Information Officer attached to the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office in Texas, Patricia Gutierrez, confirmed the charges saying, “We do have her (Ahye’s) case on file. She was arrested on June 20 but she was actually released the next day. She got out on bail, US $2,500.”

In a now-deleted Instagram post, Ahye’s wife Chelsea Renee shared what appeared to be a mugshot of Ahye, saying, “Just because I have time today.” (Some comments deleted.) I pray God gives me the strength to get through this time in my life. I don’t regret anything in my life but marrying you was most definitely one of them.”

Her account has since been deactivated.

Amber Norton, an office administrator at the Williamson County District Court told Newsday Ahye has not yet made a court appearance but is due to do so on August 6 at 9 am.

Ahye, however, is denying these claims. In a Facebook post yesterday afternoon, Ahye wrote, “I am aware of the information that was brought to the public’s attention. My family and I appreciate the concern and support that we have been receiving. No charges was (sic) laid against me. I am highly saddened and hurt by the situation and wishes (sic) nothing but the best to Chelsea and her future endeavours.”

She added that she is focusing on the upcoming European circuit and is asking the public to respect her family’s privacy at this time.

Ahye won gold in the women’s 100-metre final at the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia, becoming the first TT athlete to do so. She also won the women’s 200 metre “B” race at the Spitzen Leichtathletik track meet in Switzerland on Tuesday.

She also won the 2017 and 2018 First Citizens Sports Foundation Sportswoman of the Year, as well as the 2017 and 2018 TTOC (TT Olympic Committee) Sportswoman of the Year.

This story was originally published with the title "Ahye to release official statement" and has been adjusted to include additional details. See original post below.

This is interesting especially as the Athletics segment of the Pan Am Games is due to start on 6th August which is the same day that Ahye who claims not to have been charged is due to appear in court.

Would the Public Information Officer attached to the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office in Texas, Patricia Gutierrez, give false information about someone being charged and them having their case on file?
Also if Ahye was not charged then why would she have spent a night in custody and be released the next day after bail was paid and then be ordered to appear in court on 6th August?

Something is not adding up here but we will know for sure by 6th August if Ahye was not charged as she would not be required to appear in court on that date and will naturally be in Lima with the TTO Pan Am team.

No charges laid against Ahye says estranged wife

Chelsea Renee, the now estranged wife of T&T’s Olympic athlete Michelle-Lee Ahye, has admitted that Ahye was arrested by police because of a marital dispute but added that she did not press charges.

Last week Renee placed a now deleted post on social media with what appeared to be a mugshot of Ahye, suggesting the couple had split.

“I posted something that I should not have. It was out of anger and I let my feelings get the best of me. Michelle and I did get into an altercation and the police were called. Michelle was taken to jail, and I just want to clarify I did not press charges on Michelle… at all,” she told Guardian Media on Sunday.

Renee also said they have now been separated.

“We have been trying to work on our marriage and things have been rocky. We are separated,” she said.

Reports emerged Thursday that the Ahye was arrested on June 20 in Houston, Texas, accused of domestic abuse. She was released on June 21.

TTOC challenges Ahye’s 2-year ban
BY NARISSA FRASER (NEWSDAY).

WITH five months to go until the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo, Japan, TT sprinter Michelle Lee Ahye may be able to represent this country if an appeal filed by the TT Olympic Committee (TTOC) is successful.

The Commonwealth Games gold-medallist received a two-year ban by the IAAF (International Association of Athletics Federation) on January 25 for “whereabouts failure” – a violation of its anti-doping rules – after missing three drug tests over a 12-month period.

She missed tests on June 23, 2018, February 23, 2019 and April 19, 2019. She claimed she was unable to hear knocks on her door and the ringing of her apartment’s doorbell for the final test which led to her penalisation.

But the TTOC has now filed an appeal against the decision at the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in Switzerland.

TTOC attorney Dave Williams told Newsday that after being informed of the IAAF’s decision, the TTOC had 30 days to challenge it.

The appeal was filed on Friday.

The committee now has 15 days to submit its arguments against the decision.

Williams said, “We aren’t going into details but certainly we’re challenging the number of years given to her.

“If we can get at least one year taken away from it, that’s fine.”

But he says the aim is to reverse the ban entirely.

He is seeking an expedited hearing because “if CAS treats with it as they normally (deal with) matters, it may not be heard in time.”

Asked how the athlete has been doing, he said, “There’s not much we can do. She’s operating like normal.

“I can’t really comment in terms of her mental state but as far as I’m aware, she’s taking it as it comes.”

The real measure of a man's character is what he would do if he knew he would never be found out.

Anyway you look at it. It is a damn shame! little countries cannot get a break. But Michelle is old enough to know the severity for missing 2  tests.

She just ran herself right back onto the Olympic team yesterday.

I give her full credit because coming back from a ban, no sponsor, personal life in tatters - that's to be saluted.

Fourth yesterday here in Miramar in 11.04 wind-legal.

If only we had prepared our relay teams properly since 2015 and could be looking seriously at being a 4x100m threat in Tokyo.

Nothing other than a dropped baton or DQ can break up the top three now - Jamaica USA UK.
