Trinidad and Tobago Red Steel captain Dwayne Bravo says his priority will be to win the three home games, starting with the Guyana Amazon Warriors match in Limacol Caribbean Premier League action today, at the Queen’s Park Oval, Port of Spain.
It is a rematch of the game the Red Steel lost to the Amazon Warriors a week ago in a super over in Guyana.

Red Steel coach Roger Helmot says that result is already behind his team.
“That was a couple of games ago and now we certainly have moved on since that match. It was a fantastic game, one which we felt we should have won but unfortunately a couple of mistakes put us into that super over situation,” he said.
The Red Steel record of two wins from three matches include two crushing victories—a seven-wicket win over the Barbados Tridents, then their latest, a nine-wicket romp against the Antigua Hawksbills Sunday.

“Dwayne (Bravo) and the guys have beendoing a great job and we are really excited about being back here at home, playing in front of our home fans. We know there are high expectations of the community here and we have high expectations ourselves,” Helmot said. “I don’t think we’ll do too much different other than put partnerships that will help us win games, put bowling plans...focus on the processes being the key and the outcomes will look after themselves.”
Bravo said the team is using the momentum of winning two games on the road to propel them.

“It’s a better start than what we had last year, so these three home games here are very important. Obviously Guyana is a very tough team, one of the better teams in the competition, both teams have mutual respect for each other so the fans are in for another cracker,” Bravo emphasised.

Bravo said winning is the number one priority.
“To lead the team well, that is the most important thing and to ensure that we win games. It’s a longer tournament, a very important tournament for us, and for me as a young captain to ensure that first of all is to get into the top four so the next three games are going to be very crucial,” he said. “If we could win all three, or at least two of the three against Guyana and Jamaica, the two teams that are ahead of us, if we could actually knock them over, we will finish in the top two in the (standings) table and that’s definitely my aim as captain.”
Warriors skipper Denesh Ramdin said his squad needed to come with their A game in what will be a more partisan atmosphere.

“Who handles the pressure better, comes out on top,” Ramdin stated.
The Warriors, winners of three of their four matches to date, are trying to rebound from a four-run defeat to the tournament’s only unbeaten team, the Jamaican Tallawahs.
Warriors coach, Roger Harper, said he preferred to focus on the positive aspects of that close match.
“There are number of things that went right that we will like to build on, a good few of our batsmen getting runs, getting through the overs, but also look at the little areas where we can look back—we weren’t as efficient in the field, and if we count some of the runs we gave away there and some of the extras we gave away as well,” he said, “But I think we could have handled the middle overs and the ones at the end a little better as well, so we see things we can improve on. If we can improve just one per cent in those areas it will help us tremendously.”
First ball is at 8 p.m.

Teams:
Trinidad and Tobago Red Steel: Dwayne Bravo (captain), Samuel Badree, Suliemann Benn, Darren Bravo, Kevon Cooper, Fidel Edwards, Shannon Gabriel, Delorn Johnson, Kennar Lewis, Evin Lewis, Jason Mohammed, Nasir Jamshed, Kevin O’Brien, Nicolas Pooran (wk), Ross Taylor.

Unbelievable! Sunil Narine bowls T20's first wicket-maiden over in a Super Over
By A Correspondent |Posted 18-Jul-2014

Off-spinner Sunil Narine has become the first bowler in Twenty20 cricket history to bowl a maiden in Super Over, during the Caribbean Premier League
Providence (Guyana): West Indian off-spinner Sunil Narine has created cricketing history by becoming the first bowler in the history of T20 format to bowl a maiden Super-Over.
He achieved this feat during fifth game of the Caribbean Premier League and his 'super' Super Over helped his side Guyana Amazon Warriors register a dramatic win over Trinidad and Tobago-based Red Steel.
Interestingly, last week in the opening tie of the CPL T20, Narine had bowled the most economical spell ever in T20 cricket: 4-1-3-0.

With both sides ending up with 118 at the end of the stipulated 20 overs, the game Super Over decider was brought into play.
Kevon Cooper's over for Red Steel saw Amazon Warriors score 11 runs with the help of a six from 'Man of the Match' Christopher Barnwell, .
With Red Steel requiring 12 to win, Narine beat left-hander Nicholas Pooran outside the off-stump with the first four deliveries before having him caught at long-off by Martin Guptil off the fifth ball to seal the game.
Ross Taylor also swung and missed at the final delivery as Red Steel failed to score a single run.

Joson: "WOW!!! What a match !!!"

What a game of cricket we had! After the horrifying start to the innings Ramdin and Jimmy Neesham provided the oxygen needed and they managed to score 179. Ramdin played a knock of his life. Needing 180 to win on a improbable win Red Steel started pretty poorly and It was Bravo brothers. They left no clue whatsoever and Guyanese are shell shocked with the hitting.

19.6
Beaton to DM Bravo, SIX, Bravo! Bravo! Bravo! Would you believe it. Goodness me. It was a length ball on off stump, Bravo absolutely nails it over deep mid wicket for a colossal hit. Its a gigantic hit and its in the Caribbean Sea ! Take a bow master.

Darren Bravo seals last-ball win for Red Steel

Trinidad & Tobago Red Steel 180 for 6 (Darren Bravo 69*, Dwayne Bravo, 67) beat Guyana Amazon Warriors 179 for 5 (Ramdin 84, Badree 3-13) by four wickets

At 13 for 3 in the fourth over, chasing 180, the chances of a Trinidad & Tobago Red Steel win were looking unlikely. It took an impressive 131-run, fourth-wicket partnership between Darren and Dwayne Bravo and a last-ball six from Darren to help Red Steel seal off a remarkable win against Guyana Amazon Warriors.

With 167 needed at the start of the fifth over and the required run rate already over 10, Red Steel did not have the luxury of playing out a few overs to consolidate. The Bravo brothers, however, paced themselves well, finding the boundary in nearly every over.

Amazon Warriors made one change to their side from the last game, bringing in offspinner Steven Jacobs for Sunil Narine. Jacobs ended up conceding 28 runs in his two overs. His second over, the ninth of the innings, cost 20 runs and marked the turnaround of the chase. Between the ninth and 13th overs, the Bravo brothers went on to hit 71 runs, dragging the equation down from 143 off 72 to 72 off 42. The fifty-run milestone in their partnership had taken 40 balls but the next fifty runs came off 18 balls.

Amazon Warriors would have hoped the wicket of Dwayne Bravo to put the brakes on the chase, but a couple of sixes from Nicholas Pooran before his dismissal in the 19th over, kept Red Steel in the hunt. With nine needed off the last six balls, Ronsford Beaton, who had bowled the most expensive over of the innings, almost redeemed himself, giving away two runs off the first four deliveries. However, Jason Mohammed turned the strike over to Darren Bravo off the penultimate ball and the batsman, well-set on 63, slammed the last ball for a towering six over deep midwicket.

The Amazon Warriors innings had the same pattern as the Red Steel one; early wickets, a large partnership and quick runs at the end.

Samuel Badree finished his first spell with figures of 3 for 6 off three overs, dismissing Martin Guptill in the first over and then taking the wickets of Mohammed Hafeez and Lendl Simmons, after Simmons had taken 16 runs off Fidel Edwards in the fifth over.

Denesh Ramdin and Neesham took contrasting routes in their 122-run fourth-wicket partnership. Neesham relied mostly on singles, while Ramdin found the boundary shots more often. The Amazon Warriors captain raced to his fifty off 33 balls and the pair stepped up the scoring accumulating 82 runs between the 13th and 18th overs. Christopher Barnwell slammed two sixes and a four in his eight-ball 23 to set up a strong finish for Amazon Warriors.

Ramdin's knock inspired us - Dwayne Bravo
Renaldo Matadeen

Denesh Ramdin goes for a slog-sweep, Trinidad & Tobago Red Steel v Guyana Amazon Warriors, CPL 2014, Port-of-Spain, July 24, 2014

Trinidad & Tobago Red Steel captain Dwayne Bravo has said his opponent Denesh Ramdin's batting inspired his team in their four-wicket CPL win over Guyana Amazon Warriors.

Ramdin smashed 84 from 45 balls with six fours and six sixes for the Amazon Warriors, and Dwayne Bravo confessed to be taken aback by the bravado on display.

"Denesh's batting really inspired me. He came out there when his team was down and really took it to us," Dwayne Bravo said. "That got me thinking that once we could go out there and bat 20 overs, with self-belief and fight, we could do the same."

Dwayne Bravo made a crucial impact in the match himself, scoring 67 off 42 balls, but it was his brother Darren Bravo who stole the show with an unbeaten 69, including a match-winning six off the last delivery.

"We tried to copy what Denesh and [Jimmy] Neesham did for Guyana. We wanted to sit in the middle and build a big partnership like theirs. We knew that without Sunil Narine, on such a small ground, it was a gettable total once we batted through."

Despite the win, Dwayne Bravo stated that his team needed to improve in the field after yet another disappointing performance. "There were a few vital chances missed and there's always room to improve," he said. "Our batting clicked today but we still need to be better in the outfield. Sometimes these things do happen and you have days like today."

Reflecting on the loss, Ramdin admitted to being disappointed with his team's bowling, especially in the absence of Narine, though he expected the injured spinner to be available for the next match.

"We tried our best but the Red Steel batsmen did their job and the better team came out on top," Ramdin said. "We didn't have Sunil who's out injured but he'll be resting a couple days and hopefully, we'll have him back for the next game."

Ramdin rues fielding lapses

Guyana Amazon Warriors skipper Denesh Ramdin lamented the lapses in the field that contributed to their last ball loss to Trinidad and Tobago Red Steel their Limacol Caribbean Premier League Twenty20 match at Queen’s Park Oval, Port of Spain on Thursday night.
The Warriors coach also spoke about “errors” in the field which helped the Red Steel reach 180 for six in reply to their total of 179 for four.

The lapses he referred to were when Christopher Barnwell dropped a skier off Dwayne Bravo towards the end of the innings and another more difficult chance to get rid of the Red Steel skipper which was missed by Martin Guptill.

Bravo went on to score 67 off 42 balls in a 131-run stand with his younger brother Darren (69 not out) who hit the last ball for six to win the game.
Speaking about the match Ramdin said while they lost a few early wickets, he felt their eventual total was good enough to defend, even without the injured Sunil Narine.

“We lost a few early wickets, we would take 180 any day and try to defend it. They were 50-odd after ten overs and Darren and Dwayne came in and played some good cricket shots and there were a couple of chances that we should have taken that could have changed the game. There was also a missed run out. It could have gone anywhere off that last ball,” Ramdin explained.

“We tried to get as much runs as possible to defend in the last over and I think (Ronsford) Beaton did well to try and defend nine in the final over. It was a good game of cricket at the end of the day,” he added.
Speaking about the absence of Narine, Ramdin said: “He will be out for a couple of days. He will do some treatment and hopefully he will be back for the next game (against the Barbados Tridents today) or the game against Jamaica. He was missed today (Thursday night) but we should have bowled a lot better than we did.”

The Trinidad and Tobago and West Indies skipper Ramdin top-scored for the Warriors on Thursday, hitting 84 off 45 balls with six sixes and six fours to get his franchise to a competitive score. However he insisted that “the better team won on the day,” as he hugged and congratulated his T&T teammate Dwayne Bravo before the post-match press conference.
Amazon Warriors coach Roger Harper was glad to see a competitive game but said they will have to learn from their mistakes quickly and try to rebound against the Barbados Tridents at Kensington Oval, Barbados today.

“We were very competitive. It was a strange game where both teams lost wickets early and the fourth wicket pair got huge partnerships for both teams, so we really have to learn and learn quickly,” said Harper.
“I think we have to understand how to bowl in certain situations and execute better. We have to look at the extras we gave away again and also the errors we made in the field,” the coach added.

Bravo, Bravo!
Red Steel win thriller off last ball

By \\\\\ Roger Seepersad
Story Created: Jul 25, 2014 at 9:07 PM ECT
Express

The packed Queen’s Park Oval crowd was kept in suspense late into the night before Darren Bravo’s final ball six off Ronsford Beaton sent them into a frenzy.

“Bravo! Bravo! Bravo! was the chant around the Oval on Thursday night as the Trinidad and Tobago Red Steel skipper Dwayne Bravo (67 off 42 balls) and his younger brother Darren (69 not out off 49 balls) took turns manhandling the Guyana Amazon Warriors bowlers in an entertaining 131-run fourth wicket partnership which helped the hosts recover from 13 for three in the fourth over to reach 180 for six, with the younger Bravo holding his pose after smashing the last ball over the deep midwicket boundary to win the Limacol Caribbean Premier League Twenty20 match for his team.

Even with the ball, the Red Steel almost let the game slip away as the Warriors also had a thrilling recovery from a sluggish start thanks to skipper Denesh Ramdin’s 45-ball 84.
The Trinidad and Tobago and West Indies Test captain Ramdin hit six fours and six sixes—60 runs in boundaries—in a 122-run stand for the fourth wicket with Jimmy Neesham (33 off 32 balls) as the Warriors recovered from 23 for three in the sixth over to post 179 for four off 20 but even after that, captain Dwayne insisted: “This is my home. This is where I play most of my cricket. At no point in time did I panic.
“I told the guys, if we bat 20 overs, we are going to win the game, just believe and so said so done,” he added after the match.

It was Ramdin’s innings, according to Red Steel skipper, that spurred on the home team’s successful run chase.
“I think Ramdin’s innings actually inspired me. He batted with a lot of confidence and self-belief. His team was under pressure and he came and changed the game. You have to give credit to him for the way he batted,” said Bravo.
Ramdin came to the middle after Red Steel spinner Samuel Badree struck some early blows to leave the Warriors struggling in the Powerplay overs.

The leggie removed Martin Guptill in the second over before striking twice in the fifth to send back Mohammad Hafeez and Lendl Simmons to slow the Warriors progress after Simmons had blasted four fours off the previous over from Fidel Edwards.

After ten overs they were 53 for three and that is when Ramdin started to flourish. He smacked Dwayne over deep midwicket for his first six to get the innings back on track and by the time he departed in the 18th over, the Warriors were back in the match.
The visitors pressed their advantage when Kennar Lewis, Kevin O’Brien and Ross Taylor all went back early but their bowling wasn’t the same without ace spinner Sunil Narine who missed the game due to a side strain.

The Bravos then took turns dispatching the bowlers to the boundaries. Dwayne went after Beaton with a pair of sixes on either side of the wicket as they moved on to 94 for three after 12 overs, still needing 86 to win from 48 balls.
Dwayne, who finished with six fours and three sixes, was dropped by Christopher Barnwell before the fielder redeemed himself to send back the Red Steel skipper in 17th over.
The Red Steel cut it close after losing Nicholas Pooran and Kevon Cooper towards the end with the equation boiling down to nine runs needed off the last six balls.

The match was in the balance right to the end after Jason Mohammed and Darren Bravo--who smacked five fours and five sixes in his innings--got three runs off the first five balls, leaving the Red Steel fans holding their breath, hoping for a fairytale ending which the left-hander eventually delivered to keep the party going long into the night.
The Red Steel coach Simon Helmot was pleased with the performance but also pointed out a few areas of concern.

“It was not all smooth sailing. Obviously we had a good start with the ball and I was really pleased with our effort after we had a sluggish start with the bat ourselves. We had strong partnership between the two Bravo boys and that was outstanding and that matched the Ramdin-Neesham partnership, but we were really pleased to get ourselves in a winning position in the back end.

“But we did not execute as much as we would have liked, but Ramdin batted really well. I think the guys continued to fight with the bat no matter what the circumstances are and to have a game like that, 180 vs 180 in front of your home crowd was fantastic,” Helmot said.
However he added: “ We made a number of errors with the bat, the ball and in the field but the opposition is a very good, balanced team and I think we are going to have plenty more contests as tight as that in the future. There is a healthy rivalry growing there. We are growing as a team and we still have areas we can certainly improve on.”

Bravo dedicates victory to T&T
Published: Guardian
Saturday, July 26, 2014
VIINODE MAMCHAN

A happy T&T Red Steel captain Dwayne Bravo dedicated the last ball victory over the Guyana Amazon Warriors to the Government and people of this country. Chasing 180 for victory, the Red Steel got a four-wicket victory after Dwayne’s brother Darren smacked the last ball of the match for six off Ronsford Beaton. Speaking at the post-match press conference, Bravo said: “We are thrilled at the victory and I would like to dedicate this win to the people of this country as well as the Government.” Bravo’s comments come in light of the Red Steel being able to retain the T&T name.

Two weeks ago, Minister of Sport Anil Roberts had asked that the Red Steel be stripped of the T&T name. However, this past week, a release was sent out by CPL officials stating that the Minister of National Security had assisted in regaining the name for the team and they also thanked the Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar.

The fans packed the Oval to capacity and although there were four Trinis playing for the Amazon Warriors, they were out in their numbers to support the Red Steel. For the entire game they were chanting in support of the Red Steel and erupted when Darren Bravo struck the six to win the game. Meanwhile, Bravo said he was happy overall with the performance of his team: “The boys are playing very good cricket and this win was really great tonight. We lost our way a bit after bowling well early on but these things happen in T20 cricket. “We fought back well and it was good to get runs tonight. Darren played very well and we owe him after that magnificent shot to win the match.”

Coach of the team Simon Helmot was also pleased: “The team has been improving in every match and this win would do a lot for us. We have been working on specific areas of our game and it is good to see things coming along. “There are still some areas that we need to improve in, especially the fielding and we are going to look at this in the short term. “When fielding errors are made towards the end of an innings, it is generally magnified but still it is something that we need to work on and we will continue to focus on it.” Looking ahead to today’s match against the Jamaica Tallawahs, Bravo said: “Well it’s another tough game on our hands and we have to play well to get past this team.

This win would of course give us confidence going into that clash and once we play to our plan, I see no reason why we cannot get another win. Taking wins at home is crucial and we are looking to maximise with two more victories before we hit the road again. After today’s match, the Red Steel plays St Lucia Zouks in their sixth clash at the Oval tomorrow.
