The Government of St Lucia yesterday delivered some fantastic news for young cricket fans in the country after partnering with the Limacol Caribbean Premier League to give children under the age of 12 free access to the St Lucia Zouks first home match against Barbados Tridents on Thursday at Beausejour.

The initiative will allow the next generation of cricketers to watch their heroes in action, with including Darren Sammy, Kieron Pollard, Roelof van der Merwe and Dwayne Smith all on show.

At 8 pm on Thursday, the Zouks face a rematch against the in-form, Barbados Tridents, before taking on the T&T Red Steel on Saturday at 4pm and the Antigua Hawksbills on Sunday at 4 pm.

Minister for Youth Development and Sports the Hon. Shawn Edward, said: We’re delighted to be able to offer young St Lucians the opportunity to watch the Zouks opening home game free of charge. The CPL is a fantastic, vibrant tournament and hopefully this will help inspire the next generation of St Lucian cricketers.

Damien O’Donohoe, CEO, Limacol Caribbean Premier League, said: It’s really important to us that the CPL plays a role in the future of West Indies cricket, so when the Minister came to us with this initiative we were on board straight away. Fans can be guaranteed thrilling cricket and a great atmosphere, so I’d urge everybody to show their support at the three games.

Kids must be present at the stadium box office on match day to redeem their ticket, and they will then be directed to their designated stand.

The Limacol Caribbean Premier League runs from July 11 to August 16, with 30 matches taking place over 37 days. In addition, the final week of the tournament, in St Kitts and Nevis, will host Beefy’s Bash, an all-star charity match featuring Sir Ian Botham, Brian Lara and Piers Morgan, as well as a concert by hip-hop megastar, Rick Ross.
