I believe the match is being played today, Sunday 7th September 2014. I believe it's scheduled for Mt. Pleasant but not sure (Mt. Gomery is about a 3 min drive away as a 2nd ground).

How they deciding which teams from these zones getting promoted etc?

Or will these traditional "big" teams now be lost to SSFL?

Fatima pinch point against ‘Saints’
T&T Express Reports.

There are times when a draw can feel like a victory. Fatima College fans certainly felt so when their team grabbed a last minute goal to earn a 1-1 draw at home to St Mary’s College in the Secondary Schools Football League (SSFL) yesterday.

Fatima captain Kyell Lancaster’s leveller deep into stoppage time sealed a draw and brought the home fans screaming as they poured onto the field to celebrate. Two kicks later and it was all over, leaving St Mary’s floored, literally, as some players sank to the ground in disbelief.

The way they controlled the match in large periods, and with Fatima looking much less likely to score over the first 70 minutes, the “Saints” would have expected to cruise to the final whistle with their 1-0 lead intact.

But their decision to close the game out added pressure on them in the last 15 minutes, and the momentum towards Fatima. The law of averages went their way, as they missed, missed and missed again before finally sealing it four minutes after regulation time had ended.

It meant St Mary’s suffered their first blemish, having beaten St Augustine 3-0, and Naparima 1-0 in their first two matches. It was also the first goal the Saints have conceded in the 2014 League.

St Mary’s surprised few with their opening goal after building early pressure. Chinua Bernard powered home a header from a corner kick in the 18th minute, and rode that advantage to halftime with a stronger performance against their more physical opponents.

Most of the drama was saved for the second half though, and a few players could have seen red from the referee as the play deteriorated in the second half.

St Mary’s passing game didn’t not work as well against Fatima’s direct, rough approach, but they pushed on and should have doubled their advantage in the 72nd minute. But Jean-Marc De Souza, having two bites of the cherry off an Aaron Noel free kick, was twice denied by Fatima custodian Jonathan Uddenberg at point blank range. They never again got close to doubling up.

Fatima’s Marquise Hoyte was guilty of several misses, most notably during a goalmouth scramble midway through the second half, and then in the 85th when he failed to direct a cross by Dillon Abraham goalward.

But once Hoyte was denied by Saints’ goalkeeper Kristopher Donaldson, Lancaster rushed into the box and found the far post from the right, shooting from just inside the 18-metre box. The ball seemed to take forever to go in, but certainly knew its destination.

It was perhaps a fitting result, a point each for St Mary’s dominance and Fatima’s grit to stay in the contest to the very end.

St Anthony’s win Benedict’s points.

St Anthony’s College have been awarded a 3-0 win and three goals for their match last week against St Benedict’s College. The match was not played because the referee ruled that the ground was not properly marked.

Yesterday, St Anthony’s College coach Nigel Grosvenor confirmed that the Secondary School Football League had awarded the match to visitors St Anthony’s.

Pleasantville, Fyzabad make winning start in SSFL Championship.
T&T Guardian Reports.

Jabari Hodge scored in added time to hand Pleasantville a narrow 1-0 win over Mayaro in the opening South Zone fixture of the BGTT Secondary Schools Football League (SSFL) Championship Division, yesterday.

Pleasantville, which failed to make the cut into this year’s inaugural Premier Division made an early step to the top of the Championship standings, joint with last year’s Senior Division champion and newly-promoted Fyzabad Secondary, which in contrast, scored early on and hung on to defeat Princes Town West, another newly-promoted team, 1-0. Simeon Pierre scored the only goal in the fifth minute.

Meanwhile, the North and Central Zones also got underway in the Championship division.

In Central, Miracle Ministry made it debut with a comfortable 3-1 win over ASJA Boys. Gianni Dickerson bagged a brace, while Nathan Young scored the other goal for the winning team, which was up 2-0 at the half. ASJA’s lone goal was an own goal.

Meanwhile, goals were in abundance in the North Zone, with Queen’s Royal College seeking a strong start after last year’s disappointing campaign with a 7-1 thrashing of Diego Martin Central, while Diego Martin North and Tranquility Secondary shared a point after playing to a 4-4 draw.

Today, the East Zone will kick off with a double-header at the Larry Gomes Stadium, Arima.

Action will continue tomorrow in the Central, East and North Zones with one match carded for each. Three matches are also carded for the Tobago Zone tomorrow, while the Premier Division continues with a full round of fixtures.

After each zone completes their league fixtures, the top two teams from the North, South, East and Central Zone, will play in a “Big Eight” competition, with the two finalists and third place finisher securing promotion to the Premier Division. The bottom three teams from the Premier Division will face relegation to their respective zones.

Might be the best thing to happen to We! The admin have to think seriously about wanting to compete in the SSFL. They can't live on their name. They have to compete to get good players. I think two players transferred to Fatima.

Tigers remain perfect in Premier Division.
T&T Guardian Reports.

St Anthony’s College scored two second-half goals in a come-from-behind effort to remain with a 100 per cent winning record to maintain its position at the top of the BGTT Secondary Schools Football League (SSFL) Premier Division, yesterday, with a 2-1 victory over Arima North Secondary.

The “Tigers” recorded the win away from home at Arima’s school ground, thanks to second half goals from Simon Joseph, who netted in the 57th minute and Kwesi Allen who bagged the all-important winner ten minutes later.

With that win, along with St Marys’ comfortable 2-0 win over Chaguanas North, the two North Zone teams remained above the 14-standings, with 12 and ten points, respectively. However, the other two North Zone teams recorded losses, while the South Zone teams were the big performers of the day winning three out of the four matches. Naparima College secured its third win in four matches with a 2-1 result over East Mucurapo, which remained rooted to the bottom of the table with its fourth consecutive loss.

Mucurapo could only respond with one goal in the second half through Kazim Donald, after Trent Paul and Amrit Gildharry scored Naps’ two goals in the first half. Perhaps, the most outstanding win on the day went to another south team, Shiva Boys Hindu College, which breezed past winless Carapichaima East, 4-0.

Marvin Sueraj scored a hat-trick for Shiva. Meanwhile, potent forward Tyrik Joseph, son of T&T’s record goal scorer Stern John, netted one goal in either half, to see Trinity College East defeat St Benedict’s 2-1. National U-17 player Brent Sam scored between John’s two goals in the 22nd minute.

Wins for QRC, ‘Pres’ in Championship Division
T&T Express Reports.

Queen’s Royal College and Presentation College Chaguanas scored huge victories yesterday when action in the Championship Division of the Secondary Schools Football League (SSFL) continued.

The Royalians thumped Tranquillity Secondary 8-0 while ‘Pres’ dominated Miracle Ministry 9-3 in encounters in the North and Central Zones respectively.

In the other North zone match, Trinity College shut out Diego Martin Central 2-0 while ASJA Boys edged Tabaquite 2-1.

In the South zone, all games were shut-outs. Fyzabad defeated Mayaro 2-0, the same result and scoreline in Point Fortin East’s favour when they beat Pleasantville. And in the final South game, Princes Town routed Vessigny 4-0.

No appeal against St Anthony’s
….Tigers go for fifth straight win
T&T Guardian Reports.

Despite speculation of a breach of rules by St Anthony’s College in its recent clash against Carapichaima East, no such protest has been filed and the “Tigers” will remain on top of the SSFL Premier Division standings today when the school meets Shiva Boys Hindu College in match day five.

St Anthony’s College leads the 14-team standings with 12 points from a perfect four-match win streak and will be seeking to add another three when coach Nigel Grosvenor’s charges host a mid-table Shiva Boys (two wins, two losses).

There was talk recently that St Anthony’s unbeaten run and leading position in the standings may be in the balance as Carapichaima considered appealing St Anthony’s fielding of Shakeem Patrick, who was suspended for one match after receiving a red card in the league opener, two matches prior, against Trinity College.

St Anthony’s was scheduled to meet St Benedict’s College in the subsequent fixture but the match never kicked off due to an unprepared pitch.

St Anthony’s, the away team, was awarded a three-nil win by default.

The player then appeared in the following match against Carapichaima East, last Wednesday, which ended in a 5–0 win for St Anthony’s.

Contacted yesterday to question if any appeal was filed by Carapichaima East, SSFL general secretary Azaad Khan confirmed that none was. He added that the player would have served his ban for the match against St Benedict’s even if it never played. Khan said: “In any case, he was not on the team sheet prepared before the match. He was not going to take part in the match."

Simultaneous with St Anthony’s clash with Shiva Boys, all six other matches will play at 3.45 pm.

Only one change has been made to today’s Premier Division programme with Chaguanas North’s meeting against Presentation College San Fernando being played at New Settlement Ground, Caroni instead of Chaguanas North’s school ground.

Three other matches will be played in the Tobago Zone Championship Division, also from 3.45 pm.

St Mary’s snatches point against resurgent Trinity Hawks
By Lasana Liburd (Wired868.com)

St Mary’s College somehow left Trincity with its unbeaten SSFL Premier Division record intact this evening after an exciting 1-1 draw with Trinity College East in challenging conditions.
On a wet, soggy surface, Trinity’s “Blue Hawks” pinned the “Saints” down for long periods but could deliver the knockout blow in an entertaining fixture.
The result saw St Anthony’s stretch its lead over second placed St Mary’s to four points today as striker Kwesi Allen notched a hattrick in a 3-2 win over Shiva Boys HC at Westmoorings.
Allen leads all Premier Division scorers with nine goals from his four outings.
Goals were at a premium in Trincity although both items came in the first half.
St Mary’s opened the scoring through striker Chinua Bernard who beat Trinity goalkeeper Myron Mark with what appeared to be a misplaced cross in the ninth minute. But the Hawks clawed themselves back level, seven minutes from the interval, when an effort from the lively Kristian Meloney deflected off St Mary’s midfielder Jean-Marc De Souza and into the top left hand corner.
Although there were no further goals in the contest, it was not for a lack of effort.
Bernard, who is St Mary’s top scorer with four goals, came closest for the Saints with a strike from the edge of the area that Mark punched to safety in the 54th minute. But Trinity always looked more likely to score as the Hawks forced the Port of Spain school back on its heels in the wet conditions.
Deep-lying playmaker Adrian Charles bossed the midfield with quick, precise passes to either flank while national under-17 forward Dereem Daniel and Tyrik John, the son of 2006 World Cup striker and Trinidad and Tobago’s record scorer Stern John, threatened on top.

Tigers squeeze out plucky Shiva.
By Kern De Freitas (Express).

St Anthony’s College got their fifth win in as many matches in the Premier Division of the BG T&T Secondary Schools Football League yesterday, with a 3-2 win over Shiva Boys Hindu College. But they were made them battle to remain the only team with a perfect record.

But the result at their Westmoorings base came at a cost for the “Tigers,” with Andrew Rullow being red carded in the 77th minute.

It was also a match that should have the St Anthony’s think tank reviewing a performance that could well have seen them concede their first defeat. However, Kwesi Allen ensured the match would end in the home team’s favour with a hat-trick, including the winner in stoppage time.

Shiva Boys got their goals from Tequan Rodriguez and Kadeem Ashford on either side of half time.

Shiva might feel a bit aggrieved not to share the points, or maybe even win, but made a few too many defensive errors after playing well to twice edge ahead. They also failed to capitalise on their man advantage in the last 13 minutes.

The visitors also had a shout for penalty late in the match turned down by the referee, who drew criticism from fans at both ends of the field for his officiating, and an earful from an angry St Anthony’s coach Nigel Grosvenor in protest at Rullow’s sending off.

The seesaw match saw the Tigers chasing the game from four minutes in, thanks to Shiva Boys’ determination and an error from goalkeeper Carlton Alfonso. The St Anthony’s custodian would have been better off trying to punch away the incoming ball, as he failed to gather it in and Rodriguez did not need a second invitation to knock home his team’s first.

The lead lasted 13 minutes before the Tigers were level, Allen bundling home a loose ball after Shivas’ defence seemed to forget their lines.

The Penal-based school were celebrating again on the hour when Ashford found the net, this time through a scrappy play that typified the conditions.

There was more drama when St Anthony’s won a penalty in the 75th after Shiva failed to blot out a series of corners and gave away a handball.

Rullow was sent off two minutes later to the dismay of fans and the team bench, but Shiva Boys could not take advantage and faced some late pressure of their own.

At the very least, Shiva Boys must have been level on chances with their opponents, and were upset not to be awarded a penalty of their own in the 85th that might have proved the winner.

The Tigers kept pushing and after scrambling to keep a robust Shiva outfit out of their penalty area, finally found the answer, a floating right side corner from Adriel Kerr that Allen timed perfectly, his downward header towards the far post eluding everyone and everything, except the net.

It was a hard way for Shiva Boys to lose, but they certainly provided entertainment on a gloomy afternoon.

Another player sees red for St Anthony’s

Kwesi Allen scored hat-trick and incredibly, a headed goal in virtually the last touch of the match, to keep St Anthony’s on top of the BGTT Secondary Schools Football League (SSFL) Premier Division standing, yesterday, when the “Tigers” clawed back to trump Shiva Boys Hindu College, 3-2, in Westmoorings.

St Anthony’s equalised twice, once in the first and second half to seal the win, thanks to the school’s leading goal scorer.

While the objective of a fifth straight win was achieved, head coach Nigel Grosvenor will have to endure a headache in selecting the squads for upcoming matches as he will be without the services of yet another player who received a red card and a number of others who have been summoned for national Under-17 duties.

Forward Andrew Rullow, who was brought in as a substitute to attack the final play of the match with the match locked at two-all, was immediately sent off when attacking a set-piece, according to Grosvenor for “pulling away his hand as he was held back by a Shiva Boys player.”

Grosvenor said the play never warranted a dismissal and it was a shame that his team was now on the receiving end of four red cards in three matches. St Anthony’s has, in fact, received at least one red card, in each of the matches it competed in this season. The only match which did not result in a dismissal was the fixture against St Benedict’s, which the “Tigers” won because of an unfit pitch.

“He got not once touch of the ball (as) he now came on. He (Rullow) was in tears,” said Grosvenor. ”The linesman, who was closer to the action told the referee that he should be cautioned at most.”

Along with Rullow, Grosvenor will also be without the services of Shakeem Patrick, Raheem Borde, Mattheus Granger and Shem Clauzel, who were called up for the Under-17 team scheduled to play in the CFU Championship finals in Haiti from September 26 to October 3.

In simultaneous matches, St Mary’s College remained in second spot despite behind held to a one-all draw by Trinity College, while St Benedict’s moved up the ranks with a comfortable 3-0 win over Naparima College. Rock bottom East Mucurapo finally gained a point following a 1-1 draw with North Zone rival Fatima College.

Benedict’s crush Naps in Premier Division
By JONATHAN RAMNANANSINGH (NEWSDAY).

ST BENEDICTS College continued their strong run of form in the 2014 BGTT Secondary Schools Football League (SSFL) Premier Division yesterday by crushing fellow southerners Naparima College 3-0 at home in the Commons, La Romain.

The “Golden Lions” capitalised on their home advantage early on and went ahead with a good strike from Levi Crawford in the 29th minute. Naparima did not make most of their rare chances are were duly punished for their discrepancies by a determined St Benedict’s outfit in the second period of play.

At the resumption, the leaders stretched their goal margin even further when Matthew Joseph wittily lobbed “Naps” custodian Darriel Kurjah from approximately 25 yards out. St Benedict’s would affirm the victory over their southern rivals as Anthony Herbert capped things off with a good finish in the 69th minute. The victors now stand in the top five on 10 points while Naparima remain on nine.

In the post match review by Naparima coach, Angus Eve, he revealed that their opponents played with more passion.

“St Benedict’s wanted the game more than us,” said Eve, who further referenced yesterday’s loss with last week’s failure to get past St Mary’s. “We have a lot of ability but the fight was lacking today. We didn’t attack, defend and shoot the ball as we should and that made the difference on the day.”

In other matches yesterday, defending champions St Anthony’s College held off a late charge from Shiva Boys’ to grasp a nail-biting 3-2 win at home. This victory for the “Tigers” sees them remain at the top of the league standings on 15 points while Shiva Boys’ sit six points behind.

Meanwhile, Fatima College also weaned out a fighting 1-1 result against bottom-of-the-table East Mucurapo. Yesterday’s draw saw the latter team gain their first point of the 2014 season.

St Mary’s College was also forced to settle for a drawn result (1-1) as they were held at bay by a persistent Trinity East unit.

Presentation San Fernando eased past Chaguanas North 3-0, Carapichaima East pipped San Juan North 2-1 and Arima North blanked St Augustine 2-0.

Frustrated Grosvenor calls foul on SSFL refs.
By Andrew Gioannetti (Guardian).

Long-stanging St Anthony’s head coach Nigel Grosvenor feels that his school’s name is being tarnished with the high number of red cards conceded this season and is calling for the Secondary Schools Football League (SSFL) to intervene.

Grosvenor yesterday complained in writing to SSFL general secretary Azaad Khan after one of his players, Andrew Rullow, was red carded during the team’s SSFL Premier Division clash against Shiva Boys Hindu College, in Westmoorings, on Wednesday.

It was the fourth red card received by St Anthony’s after only five matches and Grosvenor said this paints a picture of an indisciplined team.

“I’m not writing this letter because of sour grapes or being a cry baby I’m writing it because probably something that I write might make sense and someone might listen and make a change,” he wrote.

Rullow was ejected almost immediately after his second half introduction and Grosvenor said this brought the player to tears as both were of the view that the referee’s call was unjustified.

Rullow was brought to attack a St Anthony’s corner close to the end of the match, with the scores locked at 2-2, when in a scramble for position. According to Grosvenor, Rullow merely pulled his arm away when being restrained by the Shiva player, who then dropped to the ground.

The coach said the assistant referee waved his flag and advised the head official to caution the player, but the referee disagreed and opted to eject Rullow instead.

A red card in the SSFL comes with a one-match suspension and this will undoubtedly create a tactical headache for Grosvenor, who had four players temporarily depart the team for national Under-17 duties.

“Over the years I have taught my players to be aggressive but legally so and as many other coaches have done,” he said. “However, somehow to my belief I don’t think we are together in this thinking with some of the referees in Trinidad. In my experience as a coach including that of a national coach, the referees do not let the game flow. There are too much stoppages for calls that we call ‘soft’. To me they tend to quickly pull out cards that will obviously lower the tempo of the game killing it’s intensity and it’s beauty.”

He added: “Professional referees try and let the game flow. They try their best to refrain from showing too many yellow cards and especially red cards. They know their role. On the field they know it is about the players and not about them, they know that the players are the entertainers and should let them play.

“Referees down here are like DJs. When the crowd is enjoying the music, they cut it and call it a mix.”

“Teams abroad play aggressive, hard football and they are taught that from young (that) they are encouraged to do so and they are assisted to do so from the referees in there various leagues. Our youths down here are hampered in doing so in fear of receiving a card. Our referees must change their thinking and try and let the players play as much as possible. Thank you for your time and I hope something I said made sense,” he concluded.

St Anthony’s currently leads the SSFL Premier Division standings with 15 points from five straight wins, while St Mary’s College sits second on 11 points also after five matches.

Woo Ling shines on debut as St Anthony’s whips St Augustine
By Lasana Liburd (Wired868)

Who can tame the “Westmoorings Tigers?”
St Augustine Secondary joined the list of overwhelmed school teams this season as the “Green Machine” fell 3-0 to St Anthony’s College despite playing at home.
The Tigers have won all six SSFL Premier League Division matches thus far this season and, at this point, it seems that they have a tougher time negotiating match officials than school boys.
In five games, St Anthony’s collected five red cards despite not being an overtly nasty team. There were no expulsions today although coach Nigel Grosvenor might have been concerned when captain Mawasi Charles was needlessly booked for a word out of turn to the referee’s assistant.
However, today’s script centred on Trinidad and Tobago national under-20 midfielder Matthew Woo Ling who debuted for St Anthony’s College with two assists; although his triumphs at this level might be met with mixed emotions from local football fans.
Woo Ling made his Pro League debut with W Connection at 15 while he had two trials with England Premier League team Tottenham Spurs’ academy. On Friday night, he was a late substitute as the young “Soca Warriors” whipped Haiti 3-0 to lift the Under-20 Caribbean Cup trophy.
Yet, while his national teammates like Levi Garcia, Kadeem Corbin, Aikim Andrews, Jesus Perez and Neveal Hackshaw are entering their second or third seasons as adult players, the 18-year-old Woo Ling transferred from Fatima College to St Anthony’s for another taste of schoolboy glory.
If it is any consolation, he is fairly certain to get it at St Anthony’s.
Woo Ling can look frustratingly casual at times and St Augustine did have some success, albeit limited, in hustling him off the ball. But St Anthony’s undoubtedly possessed the ball better with the silky midfielder in its ranks and the fresh faced Green Machine must have sensed it was in trouble.
