From what I understand, that's most likely the case. But they'll chose the venue based on which boys' teams advance to the final.

Yuh know what's intriguing ... that this thread has more than 3 times the views than the current season Premier League thread ... although the PL thread started months before the SSFL thread. Even discounting fuh the individual club threads, dahis  :-\

Maybe the Intercol final should be on Tuesday at the HCS preceding the WC qualifier.

And people doubt that Intercol gets more attention than pro league. They started a fantasy football for Intercol yuh know. Imagine that.
The greatest single cause of atheism in the world today are Christians who acknowledge Jesus ;with their lips and walk out the door and deny Him by their lifestyle. That is what an unbelieving world simply finds unbelievable.

St Benedict’s advances to InterCol final.
T&T Guardian Reports.

Naps repeats U-16 crown

A first half goal from Anthony Herbert sealed a spot in the final of the Coca Cola National InterCol competition for St Benedict’s College, yesterday, which played with a player down to defeat Carapichaima East Secondary 1-0.

The National InterCol semifinal match was played at the Manny Ramjohn Stadium, Marabella, immediately following Point Fortin East’s 8-0 semifinal thrashing of St Francois.

Point Fortin East will play either St Augustine or Miracle Ministries in the Girls’ National final next Friday, before St Benedict’s plays the winner of San Juan North’s clash with East Mucurapo Secondary in the Boys’ final. The venue will be named following today’s matches.

St Augustine will face Miracle Ministries today at the Larry Gomes Stadium, Arima, from 1.45 pm, in the second girls’ semifinal before San Juan North and Mucurapo vie for the second spot in the final, from 3.45 pm.

In yesterday’s Boys’ InterCol semifinal, St Benedict’s did well to fend off the challenge from “Caps”, especially after losing Rondel Payne to a red card just after the half-way point in the second period. That red came simultaneously with a call for a penalty kick, which was taken and missed by Larry Brown who hit the crossbar.

The result saw St Benedict’s continue a brilliant InterCol run, which included a 2-1 win over Premier Division and Big-Four champion team, Naparima College in the South Zone final, last week.

However, in the Under-16 final, yesterday, Naparima College went all the way to the title and for the second consecutive time, but required spot kicks to do so after finishing the 80-minute match deadlocked at 1-1 with Trinity East.

“Naps” took the lead in the 23th minute with a goal from Kashief King, but conceded in the 56th minute to see the match into spot kicks. The penalties went in the way of Naparima by a 4-1 margin after Akim Low Hoy, Enrique Changiah, Joel Stephens and Kierron Mason all converted their attempts.

The real measure of a man's character is what he would do if he knew he would never be found out.

Fatima eyes Toyota Classic schools final.
T&T Guardian Reports.

Despite a very mediocre campaign in the newly formed bgTT/First Citizens Secondary Schools Football League (SSFL) Premier Division, North Zone team, Fatima College is in line to collect a $10,000 pay day courtesy the T&T Pro League’s Toyota Classic competition.

This season’s Toyota Classic which comprises all the clubs of the T&T Pro League and the top seven from the National Super League boast a new feature, where each club in the competition selected an SSFL team within its community, and for the final, the two SSFL teams that were selected by the finalists will face off against each other in their final as well on December 12, with $10,000 at stake for the winner, and $5,000 to the runner-up.

And so far, Police FC of the Pro League which, like Fatima, is coached by former national Under-17 women’s coach Richard Hood has made it through the semifinals after wins over National Super League Guaya United (2-1) in the round-of-16 and then Defence Force, 4-3 on penalty-kicks after a 1-1 draw.

WASA FC of the Super League which dumped last years winner and three-time champion DirecTV W Connection on penalties after a 1-1 draw and followed up with a come-from-behind 2-1 defeat of another Pro League club, Caledonia AIA is also through to the semifinals.

However, the St Joseph-based WASA which features all-time T&T goalscorer Stern John has not decided on with school it will select as yet.

The other schools still in contention for the $10,000 payout are Carapichaima East Secondary, Pt Fortin East Secondary, SSFL Premier Division winners’ Naparima College and San Juan North Secondary through the quartet of Central FC, Pt Fortin Civic, Club Sando and San Juan Jabloteh respectively.

Both Police and WASA were expected to know their semifinal opponents last night following the remaining quarterfinal double-header at the Ato Boldon Stadium, Couva.

Police will meet the winner of the clash between Jabloteh and Club Sando while WASA faces the Central FC/Pt Fortin FC winner.

The real measure of a man's character is what he would do if he knew he would never be found out.

St Augustine, Point Fortin confident ahead of girls final
T&T Newsday Rports.

Reigning Girls Intercol champions St Augustine Secondary will be looking for their second clean sweep of the football season when they face Point Fortin in the BG T&T First Citizens Intercol National Final tomorrow at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, Mucurapo, at 3pm.

St Augustine are hoping to continue their impressive run after winning the East Zone title and the Big Four crown.

Anselm Wright, Director of Football at St Augustine, expressed confidence in the team and believes that they win with strong support from the school community.

“We are quite confident, considering that we are the defending champions, having won all the competitions so far this year. We already won the league and the Big Four so we are looking to win the Intercol,” he stated.

Wright showered the team’s coach, Desiree Sarjeant, with praise for getting the girls to this point and says she has them prepared and focussed. He also commended parents of the girls for their continued support and being present at all the matches.

“She is an excellent coach, she works well with the team. She has the girls well disciplined, well prepared for the game and well focussed on their school work.”

He went on to mention that the school is already grooming the under 15 players to take the spots of the senior players who will be leaving at the end of the school year.

“The school has a football programme, it’s not that we just play football for competition. There is an all-round programme involving the rudiments of the game and encouraging persons to play the game, not just for competition,” he explained.

Meanwhile, Point Fortin East are also confident about facing St Augustine for the second time this year.

Point Fortin missed out on the final of the Big-Four Championships after falling to St Augustine 4-1 and will be looking to seek revenge.

Ainsley Gopaul, Principal and past student of Point Fortin who represented the school at both football and cricket, expressed joy and excitement about his team making it to the Intercol final and is confident about their chances.

“We are extremely elated, but we expected it because we were grooming a team for the longest while and we also have a lot of good players,” he declared.

“I think this team will be better prepared (for the final). We are looking to be very optimistic because it’s the first time the girls played out of the zone on a big field and it was an experience in itself and I think they would be better prepared now for this final — physically, mentally and in terms of strategy wise.”

He said their coach Chris Bailey and management did a good job with getting the team to gel.

“The coach’s efforts are excellent, more so the input the manager has made to the team. Part of the strength of the team is getting them to bond as a unit and bringing them together,” he added.

Gopaul is already looking forward to next year’s tournament since the lineup would be almost the same for the next two years.

“It’s a very young team. Even from the beginning of the season, even when they played St Augustine to now, we are a far better team because it’s students in forms two, three, four and day by day, match by match, they are improving. So next year would be the same team and they will be more experienced and developed.” he concluded.

The real measure of a man's character is what he would do if he knew he would never be found out.

Compre, Lions clash at ‘Hasely Crawford’
By Kern De Freitas (Express).

Mind vs matter in InterCol final

Just as their seasons began, so shall they end, with one slight difference: St Benedict’s College and East Mucurapo Secondary face off today for the biggest prize in secondary schools football—the Coca-Cola InterCol title at Hasely Crawford Stadium.

After Point Fortin East Secondary take on St Augustine Secondary from 3 p.m. for the girls’ InterCol title at the Mucurapo venue, the Premier Division teams will face off from 5 p.m., also at the “Hasely Crawford”.

Those teams met at that very stadium to kick off the 2014 season, and the “La Romaine Lions” ran away with a 2-0 victory over East Mucurapo.

St Benedict’s last played in a national final in 1998, when they snapped up the InterCol title, a year after losing the decider to then first-time finalists, St Anthony’s College at Queen’s Park Oval.

East Mucurapo tasted success last in 2008, when Kevin Molino led the team to a 3-1 win over Carapichaima East Secondary on two goals from star striker, the late Mutar Taylor, and a brilliant long-range free kick from the diminutive Terrence Clarke.

Both teams are looking for their third InterCol title, but unlike St Benedict’s, East Mucurapo have never tasted League success. St Benedict’s completed the League-InterCol double in 1967 for their other two national titles, while Mucurapo’s other national victory was in 1983.

While St Benedict’s have spent the season working themselves up to top physical conditioning, Mucurapo have been enhancing their mental game, which has seen them stop some of the League’s best—St Anthony’s College, St Mary’s College, Speyside Secondary and San Juan Secondary—after a dismal Premier Division campaign, where they were demoted.

For St Benedict’s coach Dexter Cyrus, himself a former national forward, he is pleased with his team’s season. But he has also advised his charges not take their opponents lightly.

“I don’t’ want our boys to be complacent,” Cyrus explained, “thinking that because we beat Mucurapo 2-0 (and) that we will beat them again at the same stadium. I don’t’ want them to think it’s the same Mucurapo team. They have about two or three new players.

“Also, teams are not scoring on them, although they are not scoring. Obviously they are doing something right defensively and that is keeping them in games. But we are in it to win it.”

At the other end of the field, Mucurapo manager Brinsley Hudson has seen his team’s confidence boosted, and hopes that will add the final piece of the InterCol puzzle to their game. He feels the match will be close with few goalscoring opportunities, and has vowed to take the attack to St Benedict’s.

East Mucurapo also want to make up for their previous loss to St Benedict’s and are further motivated by the fact that they have been relegated.

“We went through that with them and explained it (what it means to win the InterCol after being relegated), so they want it more to prove a point that we are still a champion team. It makes them a little more hungry to put their hands on this trophy.”

It makes for an interesting final today as well, with East Mucurapo’s “mind” ready to fight for supremacy against St Benedict’s “matter”.

The real measure of a man's character is what he would do if he knew he would never be found out.

Good win for Mucurapo
unfortunate for them that they will be demoted. Have some great players but so it goes....

I think that Mucurapo's keeper is probably one of the most solid in the country at the U20 level.
Hopefully he'll take over for the upcoming tourney.

Relegated East Mucurapo make history as InterCol champs.
By Kern De Freitas (Express).

‘Compre’ prevail

Tekay Hoyce will certainly remember “Fantastic Friday” for a long time to come. The national Under-17 midfielder drove in the dagger that broke the hearts of St Benedict’s College, yesterday, and handed East Mucurapo Secondary the 2014 InterCol crown in the process when the match looked destined for a penalty shootout.

It silenced supporters of the “La Romain Lions” and stunned the players who worked so hard to get there, taking down dual title holders Naparima College on the way. But a contest that could have fine either way deserved to have a winner in regulation time, and that winner needed to have a bit of luck when both teams fluffed several excellent chances, especially in the second period.

Hoyce took his in the dying minutes, and the luck remained with East Mucurapo, as they staved off desperate dashes from the South InterCol champs to grab their first title since 2008, and their third overall InterCol title, and victory over the team that handed them a 2-0 loss to open the season.

It was almost poetic that the Mucurapo Road team won; they were perhaps the unluckiest team in the debut Premier League. They were competitive in most of their matches, but won only one victory and a draw in 13 outings.

The silver lining in their dark cloud now would be the best-ever send off: they are the first relegated team to be crowned InterCol champions. East Mucurapo manager Brinsley Hutson predicted it would be a hotly-contested final, and one where a single mistake would make the difference. For both teams, there were many mistakes, especially in attack.

Mucurapo enjoyed the best of the half, but St Benedict’s should have gone into the break with an advantage, except that Mucurapo manager Brinsley Hutson predicted it would be a hotly-contested final, and one where a single mistake would make the difference. For both teams, there were many mistakes, especially in attack.

Mucurapo enjoyed the best of the half, but St Benedict’s should have gone into the break with an advantage, except that winger Joseph Matthew could not reach a ball at the far post. Matthew and Shemar were wasteful with solo runs down the right towards the near post.

The teams traded blows on the “Hasely” turf. Three days ago St Benedict’s coach Dexter Cyrus told the Express his team had only conceded in the Premier League from set plays, and that was their downfall this time around as well.

From a corner kick St Benedict’s scrambled to clear, and three East Mucurapo attackers swung goalward and missed before Hoyce rammed home the loose ball. St Benedict’s should have equalised when opposing goalie Aaron Enil dropped the ball, but his defenders earned their keep, while Matthew again missed point blank range.

It left St Benedict’s to ponder on what might have been as time ran out. At the end SuperBlue’s soca hit, “Fantastic Friday”, blared from the speakers.

It certainly was for Mucurapo, whose consolation of not playing in the top flight next year is more than enough.

Johnson leads ‘Gustine’ girls to title
By Kern De Freitas (Express).

St Augustine Secondary ruled supreme yesterday, winning the Coca-Cola Girls InterCol title with a hard-fought, come-from-behind 4-2 victory over Point Fortin East Secondary at Hasely Crawford Stadium.

Ke’Die Johnson opened the scoring for the “Gustine” girls, but they were pegged back by Point Fortin and Kayla Prince, who doubled up to give the South champs a 2-1 advantage at halftime.

After the restart, Johnson reversed the pressure—and the deficit— with two more goals, in between which Laurelle Theodore added another to put St Augustine comfortably ahead.

Point Fortin had no answer, and left The “Gustine” young ladies to celebrate with their small group of fans as they lifted the trophy.

Just did and ... as happens when posting via phone ... it disappeared.

Nothing spectacular.

Skill evident in individual actions. Nothing compelling collectively. Speed of play deficient but sufficient for the circumstance. Lack of a midfield contest. Flank play missing refinement.

On a scale of 10, an easy 6 ... Perhaps 7 out of leniency. Not more.

No. 10 and 13 for Mucurapo looked good int he middle

Altho no. 13 overplayed a bit too much n maybe why he was on the wrong side of some hard challenges, he already small as it is.

Mucurapo's skipper/ last stopper is very composed ont he ball...impressive

Mucurapo as a whole are a composed unit n surprising that they did so poorly this year in the league.
Maybe because their strike force doesnt seem too imposing.
I know they were missing 2 regular starters due to cards tho

Benedict's are the National InterCol Champions for the 6th time in the history of the school..1960, 1966,1967,1968,1998,2014

easy there fella....they won the semis....they've gotten to the final

Who they beat?
Coache Benedicts lost the national final in 68 to CIC, 4-2 in the oval.

School’s out! Wired868 highlights its favourite SSFL stars.
By Lasana Liburd (wired868.com).

The 2014 Secondary Schools Football League season reaches its climax this evening with a new champion set to be crowned as Mucurapo East Secondary faces St Benedict’s College in the Coca Cola National Intercol boys’ final from 5 pm at the Hasely Crawford Stadium.

(The Coca Cola National Intercol girls final is at the same venue from 3 pm and features Point Fortin East Secondary against St Augustine Secondary).

Naparima College, the Premier League and Big Four champs, finally allowed another school to win a trophy.

But before we say “goodbye” to the class of 2014, Wired868 gives a “shout out” to the students whose performances we enjoyed the most this season:

Jamari Warrick (St Benedict’s College): Goalkeeper

The high-flying Warrick would like to become a pilot when he finishes school. But, with his calm, assured presence and safe hands, Wired868 thinks he might make a fine surgeon as well.

Nicholas Thomas (Naparima College): Right back

Local defenders tend to treat the opposing half of the field like a foreign planet. But the lively Thomas is always up for an expedition and is as competent in defence as he is in attack.

Josiah Trimmingham (San Juan North Secondary): Central defender

Even school teachers probably tiptoe around the San Juan hulk; and he certainly knows how to throw his weight around on the field. He scored some vital goals this season too.

Rickel Dixon (St Mary’s College): Central defender

The first thing you notice about Dixon is his face guard, which protects a cheekbone injury. The second thing you realize, if you are an opposing striker, is you’re probably flat on your back wondering what happened as the uncompromising defender saunters off with the ball.

Simon Joseph (St Anthony’s College): Left back

Strong, mobile, committed and mean, you are guaranteed not to enjoy your afternoon if you are an opposing player on Joseph’s flank. He guards his turf jealously.

Aaron Noel (St Mary’s College): Midfielder

The slightly-built playmaker ends every match looking as banged-up as Bruce Willis in the “Die Hard” series. On his feet and in possession, he is as crafty as they come.

Shane Sandy (Naparima College): Midfielder

He runs and runs and runs some more. Whatever batteries Sandy uses, he should lend some to the Energiser Bunny.

Matthew Woo Ling (St Anthony’s College): Midfielder

Woo Ling’s left foot is so educated, it should teach Geometry. He is one of the SSFL’s best passers and set piece exponents.

Jabari Mitchell (Naparima College): Midfielder

It is hard to tell which players at this age would develop as an adult. Usually. With his all-round ability, composure and swagger, Mitchell seems destined to be a Trinidad and Tobago senior national team playmaker one day.

Brent Sam (San Juan North Secondary): Striker

First touch? Check. Finishing ability? Check. Hunger for goals? Check. Balance? Check. San Juan North’s nimble giraffe was worth the price of admission this season. The only limits this fellah has are the ones he puts on himself.

Kwesi Allen (St Anthony’s College): Attacker

It is uncertain whether Allen’s best position is as an out-and-out striker, a winger or a support striker. There is no doubt about the accuracy and ferocity of his left foot strikes or his nose for goal, though.

And we were also impressed with:

Akeem Awong (Naparima College): Goalkeeper

He does not fly around between the uprights much; but that is because he is always in the right position to start with.

Levi O’Brien (San Juan North): Defender

Mobile, perceptive and ruthless.

Amritt Gildharry (Naparima College): Defender

A good reader of the game and composed; but not afraid to get dirty either.

Adrian Charles (Trinity College East): Midfielder

Intercept, pass and move. Repeat.

Tyrel Emmanuel (Shiva Boys Hindu College): Midfielder

This playmaker rarely uses more than two touches; unless you force him to dribble you.

Martieon Watson (Naparima College): Midfielder

When the ball kicks off, Watson strides around as though he is the Naparima Principal. Absolutely unflappable.

Kathon St Hillaire (Mucurapo East Secondary): Attacker

The lively, versatile attacker turned around Mucurapo’s nightmare season in the Intercol competition.

Nicholas Dillon (Naparima College): Striker

Strong, efficient in his movement and a good finisher. The scary thing is you get the sense he has not neared his potential yet.

Chinua Bernard (St Mary’s College): Attacker

Clever on the ball and a composed finisher.

The real measure of a man's character is what he would do if he knew he would never be found out.
