T&T Red Force will try to delay Guyana’s title aspirations when round nine of the West Indies Cricket Board Professional Cricket League bowls off today.

If Guyana defeats T&T and earns enough bonus points at the Guyana National Stadium they will be crowned champions. Guyana currently leads the standings with 123 points after winning seven of its eight matches, 23 points ahead of second placed Barbados.

Fifth placed T&T is hoping to bounce back from its 175-run loss in the last round against the Windward Islands at the National Cricket Centre in Couva. T&T will play without West Indies all rounder Kieron Pollard, who announced after the Windward Islands match that he will be taking an indefinite break from first class cricket.

Pollard’s appearance against the Windward Islands was the all rounder’s first match for T&T since the Nagico Super50 tournament in January.

Pollard and Akeal Hosein, who has had a disappointing season, has been replaced by batsman Mark Deyal and West Indies fast bowler Shannon Gabriel.

Guyana will look towards its spin duo of Veerasammy Permaul and Devendra Bishoo to lead from the front.

The pair has been on top of their game this season snatching 100 wickets between them. Left-arm spinner Permaul has grabbed 56 wickets, while leg spinner Bishoo has taken 44 wickets. In Guyana’s five-wicket victory over Jamaica in round eight, Permaul took ten wickets in the match and Bishoo helped himself to eight wickets.

In other matches starting today, Barbados faces Windward Islands and Jamaica plays Leeward Islands. All matches bowl off at 10 am.
