Lara, Yorke feature in CPL charity event.
T&T Express Reports.

Trinidad and Tobago sport legends, Brian Lara and Dwight Yorke, are the latest stars confirmed to take part in the Hero CPL charity match at Warner Park which takes place today at 6pm. Tickets are priced at just EC$10, and are available now from the Warner Park Box Office and CPLT20.com.

The match will bring together a host of cricketing legends and current stars to mark what promises to be an exhilarating two weeks in St Kitts and Nevis where Warner Park will host ten Hero CPL matches from 30 June - 11 July.

The game between the Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis XI and cricketing legend Sir Vivian Richards XI, will boast an impressive list of all-star names who will be joining Brian and Dwight including; former English fast-bowler Darren Gough; Indian spin legend, Murali Kartik; former West Indies batsman, Daren Ganga; Ashes winning Australian, Damian Martyn; former New Zealand cricketer and sports commentator, Danny Morrison and his fellow commentator and former West Indies paceman, Ian Bishop. The players will also be joined by three current CPL coaches; Simon Helmot, Eric Simons and Stuart Williams, alongside one of the best West Indies women’s cricketers in the region, Stafanie Taylor.

All proceeds from the game will go to a local charity. Last year, three charities including, Special Olympics St Kitts and Nevis, St Kitts and Nevis Association Of Persons with Disabilities and the Creative Youth Academy, benefitted from the proceeds.

Damien O’Donohoe, CEO of the Hero Caribbean Premier League was enthused about the event. “We’ve got some fantastic names from the worlds of cricket and entertainment due to take part in the charity match," he said. "The event is set to mark the pinnacle of celebrations in St Kitts and Nevis. The Hero CPL is the Biggest Party in Sport, so we’re expecting a fun and colourful evening of entertaining cricket, whilst raising money for a worthy cause”.

This year’s chosen charity will be the St Kitts-Nevis National Education Foundation (SKNNEF), which is a non-profit organisation that seeks to provide deserving disadvantaged students with an opportunity to receive an excellent education. The Foundation's goal is to award 30 scholarships to disadvantaged students in the Federation.

The Hero Caribbean Premier League (CPL) has announced that the All-Star charity cricket match, which featured greats of the game like Sir Viv Richards and Brian Lara alongside celebrities, politicians and upcoming CPL players, raised US$10,000 for the St Kitts-Nevis National Education Foundation (SKNNEF).

SKNNEF is a non-profit organization that seeks to provide deserving disadvantaged students with an opportunity to receive an excellent education. The Foundation’s goal is to award 30 scholarships to disadvantaged students in the Federation and today’s donation will make a vital impact in helping them reach that goal.

The match took place at Warner Park, St Kitts last Thursday, between the Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis XI and Sir Vivian Richards XI -- proving a huge success with fans and players alike.

The many memorable moments from the evening included, Manchester United legend, Dwight York dismissing record breaking batsman (and his close friend) Brian Lara, along with Sir Viv Richards walking out to bat in front of an electrified crowd.

The match marked the pinnacle of an exhilarating two weeks in St. Kitts and Nevis, with Warner Park hosting ten Hero CPL matches from June 30-July 11.

The game boasted a stellar list of all-star names, including former English fast-bowler Darren Gough; Indian spin legend, Murali Kartik; former West Indies batsman, Daren Ganga; Ashes winning Australian, Damian Martyn; former New Zealand cricketer and sports commentator, Danny Morrison and his fellow commentator and former West Indies paceman, Ian Bishop.

These legends were joined by three current CPL coaches; Simon Helmot and Stuart Williams, alongside one of the best West Indies women’s cricketers in the region, Stafanie Taylor.

Damien O’Donohoe, CEO of the Hero CPL commented; “The night proved a massive success - bringing fans, players, legends and supporters together to enjoy the Biggest Party in Sport while raising money for this fantastic cause. We were joined by some great names from the worlds of cricket and entertainment who made it an unforgettable evening. I’d like to thank everyone who took part for their support and I’m proud that the money raised will have an impact on changing lives for young people in St Kitts and Nevis.”
