Bravo blasts Red Steel to victory
T&T Guardian Reports.

An imperious unbeaten 80 from Darren Bravo and a thoroughly professional bowling and fielding display by the T&T Red Steel, saw them thrash the Barbados Tridents by 72 runs in their 2015 Hero Caribbean Premier League (CPL) T20 tournament on Thursday night at the Queen’s Park Oval in Port-of-Spain.

Darren came to life after a lacklustre tournament to date, to spur his team to a healthy 184 for three after 20 overs.

Joining him in the heist was the consistent South African Jacques Kallis who got 49.

Set 185 for victory at 9.25 runs per over, the Barbados Tridents lost wickets at regular intervals and could not mount a meaningful reply.

The coup de gras was delivered by debutant Derone Davis when he sent back inspirational Tridents skipper Keiron Pollard and import Misbah ul Haq. After his mid-innings heroics the never say die Dwayne Bravo grabbed three wickets for just 16 runs and the party was done.

With the win the Red Steel now joins Guyana Amazon Warriors on seven points and will look to get a win over the St. Kitts Patriots in their next encounter under the midday sun on Saturday—to move closer to the knockout phase.

Earlier, Bravo won the toss and decided to take first strike on a good batting pitch. Kallis and Cameron Delport started off well and attacked anything that was off target. They posted 42 off the powerplay overs and as soon as they decided to step up the run rate, Delport fell for 29 with the score on 49.

The aggressive South African got his runs off 28 balls with three fours and two sixes.

Before he could have taken off his pads he was joined in the dugout by William Perkins who was stumped off left arm spinner Robin Peterson for one. At that point the Trident bowlers were able to pull the innings back nicely.

Although Kallis and Darren Bravo were able to post a solid 75 runs for the third wicket, they were kept in check and it took 55 balls to realise. The Tridents fielding backed up tidy bowling for the most part kept themselves in the game.

Kallis just one run short of his first half century in the tournament was bowled by Ravi Rampaul. His runs came off 43 balls and included six fours, as  continued he continued his good batting form.

Darren was joined by his elder brother Dwayne and he switched gears, slamming Rampaul and Holder for sixes, one of which brought up his half century off 36 balls with four fours and four sixes.

When Dwayne entered, Darren had 18 runs from 28 balls and when they hugged each other at the end, he tallied 80 from 44 balls—getting his last 62 runs from 16 balls.

He sent the local fans wild with his awesome hitting counting seven sixes and four fours in the end. Dwayne remained unbeaten on 14 as their partnership was worth 59 runs. (VM)
