No. Home clubs use their match balls.

The league should start next week or the week after and no fixtures yet?

Who are the teams competing this year?

And they want more supporters to come to games.

 ;)

Fixtures were released to clubs in early July. They were not released publicly because there are still applications from teams to join still pending. Also, there was consideration that Mahaica Oval and Irwin Park may be used if they were completed on time, which is now the case.

Thanx FS, but isn't the league 2 weeks away from kick-off?

The Charity Shield was carded for this Sunday! But that has been postponed.

I suspect if they continue like this the Super League will eventually surpass them as T&T's number one.

My advise to the Super League organizers, they should be able to compete in the CFU and Concacaf cups.

And what makes it nice is, the SL also field Tobago teams.

Knights inks two-year deal with Caledonia AIA in T&T Pro-League
Guyana Chronicle

KAREEM Knights, the Georgetown Football Club (GFC) midfield player, recently signed a two-year deal with Trinidad and Tobago Pro-League club Caledonia AIA. Though the details of the move are not known, Knights will now join his National U-23 teammates Dominic Garnett and Pernell Schultz at the Morvant/Laventille-based club, owned by Guyana’s senior National Men’s head coach Jamaal Shabazz.

“I’m just happy be to here; it’s my first time with a pro team, among players who played World Cup, MLS and other big leagues across the world,” Knights told Chronicle Sport yesterday.

The 18-year-old, who also played at the Fruta Conquerors Club, said the move to Caledonia AIA is the start for him to realise his dream of playing professional football and his intention is to “shine in the TT Pro-League”.

“It feels like home to me even though I’m in a new community among players from other countries. My Guyanese teammates have me as their younger brother guiding me and advising me how to approach things when necessary,” Knights said.

He added, “I’ve been following along the line with them, going through every session, developing on my weakness and building my confidence in order to snap myself into the level that the pro league is being played at.”

Knights has represented Guyana at the U-17, U-20 and most recently at the U-23 level but his ambition is to cement his spot on the Senior National Team.

Would love to know whether the Pro league schedule will be changed so as to ensure that this league is active or just completed before the Concacaf club championships start. If there are Caribbean qualifiers months earlier then maybe there should be some arrangements that T&T teams participating will not be adversely affected in terms of participation at full strength in the Proleague. Maybe a scheduling break for the team that has to go to Suriname or whereever to play. Teams like Comunicaciones and LA Galaxy are in full stride from an active local league while Central FC and W Connection are rusty having not played for months.  This topic has been raised before but where is the follow up?

Bailey gets his wish
By Renaldo Gilkes (Barbados Nation)

YOUNG national footballer Ranaldo Bailey is testament to the saying “perseverance seldom fails”. - See more

After having to turn down a chance to fulfill his dream of playing professional football a month ago, due to reasons off the pitch, the 19-year-old centre back has signed his first professional contract. Bailey has signed for Trinidad and Tobago Pro League club Morvant Caledonia United for the upcoming 2015-2016 season. Bailey recently returned from Northern Ireland disappointed and frustrated that he could not accept the contract offered by Northern Ireland Premiership club Ballymena F.C due to the club’s financial situation, but the humble young man said he never gave up the fight and knew that God would pave a way for him to achieve his goals.

Heard about this player from a reliable source ... The source spoke with a measure of confidence that indicated this player would do well. Got the impression he would have found a better situation than this (no disrespect to de Caledonia massive, dahis reality).

Source indicated there were two players. Wonder what has become of the other.

Playing in NI was a punt of a non-starter to begin with. Even the NI doh really want to play there.

The article about Kareem Knights refers to Jamal Shabazz as an "owner". True or false? Merely asking in light of contemporaneous revelations regarding who owns/does not own Central.

Increased $$ incentives as Digicel Pro League 2015-2016 launched.
ttproleague.com.

The $1 million champions’ prize isn’t the only cash incentive for competing teams in the 2015-2016 Digicel Pro League which was officially launched on Friday morning at the VIP Lounge of the Hasely Crawford Stadium in Port of Spain.

This season, clubs will also have the chance of vying for $50,000 – a 66 percent increase from last season’s $30,000 – awarded to the winning team in each of the three rounds of the DPL which honours fallen heroes Rawle Fletcher, Akeem Adams and Kevon Carter.

Also, new to the DPL which will end in May 2016, a Player of Round, for each of the three rounds, will receive $10,000.

The main prize money scheme will again award the DPL champions $1,000,000 while the runners-up and third-place finishers will receive $300,000 and $150,000, respectively. Teams finishing in positions fourth to tenth will receive $130,000.

Turning away from the monetary rewards and trophies on offer, Julia Baptiste, general secretary of the Pro League, told clubs, "Take your club to the next level; think professional."

The 2015-2016 DPL kicks off today (Friday) with last season’s third-place finishers Defence Force against last season’s cellar-placed finishers St. Ann’s Rangers from 6 pm at the Hasely Crawford Stadium.

The Round One Match Day One schedule will continue on Saturday 26 September with last season’s DPL runners-up W Connection hosting Police FC from 4 pm at the Mannie Ramjohn Stadium and simultaneously at the Larry Gomes Stadium, North East Stars will welcome debutants Club Sando.

Also on Saturday, defending DPL champions Central FC will visit Point Fortin Civic from 6 pm at the Mahaica Oval.

The weekend fixtures will culminate on Sunday 27 September with neighbouring rivals Morvant Caledonia United and San Juan Jabloteh clashing from 4 pm.

During his opening remarks, TT Pro League CEO Dexter Skeene called on players and clubs to not lose focus.

Skeene, a former Trinidad and Tobago footballer said, “Let’s us put aside self-doubt and frustration and continue no matter the obstacles to push for improvement in every single aspect of what we do on and off the field of play. We must be proud of the TT Pro League.”

Skeene also commended the longstanding support of title sponsor Digicel.

He said that Digicel has stood by the league's vision, players, coaches, board, management, fans and other corporate partners in fighting a noble cause, purpose and mission.

“There remain those in key decision making positions who continue to misunderstand what the TT Pro League, and what it is about in a place such as Trinidad and Tobago,” added Skeene.

“But the TT Pro League can stand proud, confident, notwithstanding at times hostile environment, our owners clubs and players and coaches continue to improve on the quality of football that is on display in the Digicel TT Pro League games and tournaments.

“No matter what, we are determined to make a positive difference in football and through football Trinidad and Tobago.”

Christopher Edmond, Digicel senior sponsorship officer, said Digicel’s partnership with the Pro League is part of the company’s commitment to football locally and internationally. He congratulated the Pro League on its positive reputation and said that Digicel fully understands the power of football.

De Silva double and assist earns Central 3-0 win over Civic.
ttproleague.com.

On Saturday, the pre-game hype was focused on Marcus Joseph, the 24-year-old ace striker making his first return to the Mahaica Oval since moving from hometown club Point Fortin Civic to Central FC in pre-season.

But it was his new teammates midfielder Sean de Silva and striker Willis Plaza that stole the show as Central FC walked away 3-0 winners – to the disappointment of the hundreds of Civic home supporters – following a very physical contest under the newly installed stadium lights at the Point Fortin venue.

Plaza opened the scoring in the first half before Sean de Silva made certain of victory with a second half brace to give the Digicel Pro League (DPL) champions a convincing start to their title defence.

“I knew we were three goals better than them (Civic),” said head coach Ross Russell after his first league match in charge of Central FC. “It was a gutsy performance by my guys. The game was a little rugged. It wasn’t as smooth as we normally play but my guys fought it out and got what they deserved.

“We could have scored more. Willis Plaza had a few that he missed. So 3-0 is a decent score for us.”

The result put Central, with a +3 goal-difference, at the top of the 2015-2016 DPL standings in Round One Match Day One, which will culminate on today (Sunday 27 September) with Morvant Caledonia United, equipped with former Civic goalie Marvin Phillip, against San Juan Jabloteh from 4 pm at the Hasely Crawford Stadium.

On Friday night at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, St. Ann’s Rangers held Defence Force, the former club of coach Russell, to a 1-1 draw; the same result last season’s runners-up W Connection were held on Saturday by Police at the Mannie Ramjohn Stadium.

Andre Toussaint, one of four top players to leave Civic following last season, broke a deadlock in the 83rd minute for Connection but a minute later Police forward Makesi Lewis tied the scores 1-1.

Also on Saturday, North East Stars joined Central as the only other winning team thus far, after shutting out DPL newcomers, Club Sando, 2-0 at the Larry Gomes Stadium.

New signings Alanzo Adlam and Adrian Noel each scored a goal in the 17th and 59th minutes, respectively, to give new North East Stars head coach, Roland Clarke, a win his debut.

Later at the Mahaica Oval, Central grabbed a 1-0 lead in the 28th minute when Plaza struck low into the far netting, beating Civic debutant goalkeeper, Miles Goodman in a match marred by crunching tackles but produced just a few cautions from referee Cecile Hinds.

Plaza was clinical from inside the right of the box after being picked out on a pass from midfielder De Silva, who started the attack from his own half.

Plaza, the only player to score a goal in every match against Civic since last season, including a 1-0 win to secure 2014-2015 Round Two Akeem Adams Trophy in the clubs previous meeting at Mahaica on February 24, 2015, had further chances to double the tally but headed over in the 40th minute and onto the crossbar in the 60th minute.

Plaza’s other goals against Civic last season came in a 3-1 win on January 11, 2015 and in a 5-2 win on April 24, 2015. Club and T&T teammate Ataulla Guerra, who was left out of Saturday’s squad, had a three-goal tally in both matches.

Yesterday, Plaza showed determination by wrestling off his marker before playing a through ball, which allowed De Silva to advance into the box and slot low past an advancing Goodman for a 2-0 Central cushion in the 63rd minute.

De Silva, a two-time former Trinidad and Tobago Youth World Cup player, made it 3-0 on the 70th minute when he controlled a Joseph (M) freekick onto his chest before volleying into Goodman’s net to complete his double.

Even without another Central signing from Civic, defensive hardman Andre Ettienne, who was left out due to injury, Civic were unable really trouble the “Couva Sharks”’ defence and midfield, controlled by 40-year-old veteran playmaker, Marvin Oliver.

Despite being a torn in his former side, Joseph (M), a talented left-footed striker of the ball and Trinidad and Tobago footballer, was unable to find the back of the net.

Meanwhile Civic, who got within inches of goalkeeper Jan-Michael Williams’ frame on a couple tries, had their closest attempt in the 84th minute when substitute Kerwin Stafford, a pre-season signing, troubled the crossbar from an angle on the right side.

“It’s our first game,” said Civic head coach Leroy De Leon. “We had some practice games before but not at this level. It’s not bad but we have some things to work on especially in the middle of the field and defensively. Our midfield was non-existent today for some reason. We also have to work on scoring goals but the real problem is the middle of the field. If the middle of the field is strong, then it takes the pressure off the defence.”

De Leon confessed that he was still in a mixing-and-matching stage with a number of new players in his squad but remains confident things will come into place.

“We’d be OK! We have a lot of players on the bench that didn’t get a chance today (Saturday). We are still mixing and matching. It’s early still, the first game, and eventually we would be there.”

De Leon, a Trinidad and Tobago football legend, added, “Central have been playing year-round, they were in CONCACAF, they are a team but we aren’t there yet.”

Central’s Russell, a two-time DPL champion coach at Defence Force, admitted that his side have the early edge due to their participation in the group stage of the 2015-2016 CONCACAF Champions League.

“It’s match sharpness,” said the Central coach. “We have five games on the trot already, high level games. We were more comfortable on the ball while Civic were now trying and it all has to do with game practice.

“The season (has) now started but we are coming off our highs in the CONCACAF within recent weeks. Now we are focused on (retaining) the league,” ended Russell, who believes his players still need to be more comfortable possessing the ball more.

Turncoats Edwards and Charles star as Jabloteh edge Morvant Caledonia.
ttproleague.com.

Even with a new name, a revamped squad, and the return of marquee player Densill Theobald, Morvant Caledonia United (MCU) kicked off their 2015-2016 campaign with a loss, while neighbouring rivals Play Whe San Juan Jabloteh joined defending Digicel Pro League champions Central FC and North East Stars in winners’ row on the weekend.

Jabloteh edged MCU 2-1 on Sunday afternoon at the Hasely Crawford Stadium courtesy goals from former Cale’ players Keyon Edwards and Tyrone Charles.

Both players were among six former MCU players in coach Keith Jeffrey’s starting Jabloteh line-up in the Round One Match Day One fixture of the Digicel Pro League.

While MCU, with Theobald, the 33-year-old Trinidad and Tobago 2006 World Cup player returning home following a stint in India with Royal Wahingdoh last season, was still short of inspiration against the class-act of Edwards.

The 31-year-old Edwards, who represented MCU up till last season, put the hurt on his former employers in the 27th minute when he volleyed past goalkeeper Marvin Phillip from a left side cross swung in by wingback and captain Damien Williams of Jamaica.

That first half lead, however, was short-lived.

Only two minutes later MCU veteran Kareem Joseph, occupying left-midfield instead of his usual full right-back, weaved his way past three defenders to find Sheldon Holder in the box and the Guyana international made no mistake in hitting past his former Cale’ club-mate and Grenada national team goalie, Shemel Louison to tie the scores 1-1.

But Louison was part of the happier side at the final whistle thanks to an 80th minute headed goal by 26-year-old Charles for a 2-1 Jabloteh win.

Charles, who had represented MCU in 2013-2014, capitalised on poor defending at the back-post. The former Central FC, St. Ann’s Rangers and North East Stars player met a deep Kennedy Hinkson free-kick to head past Phillip, who joined MCU in pre-season from Point Fortin Civic.

Jabloteh, winners of last season’s Toyota Classic and sixth-placed DPL finishers, had more looks on goal than their opponents but forward Jamal Gay, another former MCU signing, failed to trouble Phillip on three separate occasions and an earlier Charles’ free-kick flew just overbar.

Other former MCU players clad in the Jabloteh green were Nathan Lewis and Aquil Selby. They are among newcomers Ramone Mc Gregor, Ricardo Harriott, Jerome Mc Intyre, Hinkson and unused substitute Jordan Devonish.

While some new additions at last season’s second-from-bottom, MCU, includes Canadian-born brothers Daniel and Anthony Whyte, the latter in goalkeeping, Ronaldo Bailey (Barbados), Ordell Flemming (St. Kitts & Nevis), Otev Lawrence (St Lucia), Eugine Kirwan (Antigua & Barbuda), Jamaal Harvey (Guyana), Gregory President (St. Lucia), former Rangers midfielder Kennedy Isles (St. Kitts & Nevis) and former Defence Force winger Akeem Roach.

On Friday night at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, Rangers held Defence Force to a 1-1 draw; the same result last season’s runners-up W Connection were held by on Saturday against Police at the Mannie Ramjohn Stadium.

Also on Saturday, North East Stars defeated DPL newcomers, Club Sando, 2-0 at the Larry Gomes Stadium and Central overcame a physical contest to defeat Point Fortin Civic 3-0 at Mahaica Oval.

Now all ten Pro League clubs will turn their focus on the 2015 First Citizens Cup which will be launched on Monday 28 September to reveal the qualifier match-ups and quarterfinal round.

Central are two-time defending First Citizens Cup champions. The title was one of four major trophies – seven overall – captured by the "Couva Sharks" last season.

Eve seeks immediate revenge in DPL; Corbin, Toussaint and Delice could add the punch against Sando.
ttproleague.com.

St. Ann’s Rangers head coach Angus Eve seeks early revenge when his side hosts Club Sando from 6 pm on Tuesday at the Hasely Crawford Stadium in Round One Match Day Two of the Digicel Pro League (DPL) 2015-16.

It would be the second meeting between both sides in four days after the St. Ann’s outfit were booted out of the 2015 First Citizens Cup by a 3-1 loss at the Mahaica Oval in Point Fortin on Saturday, while winners Club Sando, led by former Rangers coach Anthony Streete, advanced to meet two-time defending champions Central FC in Friday’s semi-finals thanks to a hat-trick by Kevon “Showtime” Woodley.

Eve, who left out attacking players Kadeem Corbin, Josh Toussaint and Samuel Delice for disciplinary reasons, believes the trio can make a difference in Tuesday’s DPL clash.

“I’m a disciplinarian,” he said following Saturday’s defeat. “We had three players who missed training the day before. I don’t play players who miss training. They have no valid excuse. But those three players could come back into the team so we could have a bit more punch up front (against Sando on Tuesday).”

Nineteen-year-old Corbin, the star of Trinidad and Tobago's 2014 Caribbean Football Union Under-20 championship winning team has never seemed to settle since rising to stardom.

While a talented but infamous Samuel Delice has failed to produce the sort of promise he showed at Defence Force. Instead indiscipline seems to have the better of the player, who failed to calm during stints at Defence Force, Central FC and San Juan Jabloteh.

Not much is known personally about Josh Toussaint other than the midfielder has grown in ability over the years and could gain the much needed self-aggression with Eve at the helm.

Eve said that all three guys, just like many others within his squad, have a lot of potential. In the case of Corbin, who recently had trials in Holland and Finland, the new Rangers coach said the player “just needs to refocus himself because it’s sort of a let-down when you go out on trials and it doesn’t work out.”

On Saturday Eve started a lesser-known forward to the Pro League, 19-year-old former St. Anthony's College star Rasheed Simon.

Simon, who starred for his school side alongside Corbin, was passionate of his role and scored an excellent solo goal in the Rangers’ 3-1 loss. But lacked the stamina needed for the full duration of a 4 pm kick-off in the Mahaica Oval heat.

Kudos to the officials for allowing a one-minute rehydration break on the 35th minute mark for the wellbeing of players. But even that wasn't enough to cool the later disappointment for Rangers despite a creditable fight. In fact Woodley punished the St. Ann's club on every defensive lapse.

“It’s a learning process for some of these kids and sometimes it’s going to be a hard curve like it was today (against Sando),” said Eve, who led Rangers to a 1-1 draw with Defence Force in Round One Match Day One of the DPL on September 25.

Eve said Saturday’s game was worse that the performance against Defence Force. The Rangers coach said the lengthy break also broke the momentum of his team.

“But today (Saturday) we really just gave away three goals,” stated Eve. “It was down to individual mistakes. We passed the ball well and were in the game for the most part of it. But our guys are still learning. You are going to see a lot of these mistakes being made throughout the season. We already knew that coming in but we are hoping we can limit those mistakes, individual errors, and be a little more competitive as we were against Defence Force.”

Also on Tuesday at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, Morvant Caledonia United (MCU) and W Connection will meet from 8 pm in a preview of Friday’s semi-final clash.

MCU defeated Defence Force 2-1 on Sunday in the FCC quarter-finals while Connection got past Point Fortin Civic 3-1 on Saturday.

“We are finished with Army, now we are going to prepare for W Connection in the (FCC) semi-finals with Tuesday’s league match against them,” said MCU coach Jerry Moe. He also said that while Connection and MCU enjoy a good relationship, its business on the field of play.

Tuesday’s DPL action kicks off from 4 pm at the Larry Gomes Stadium with North East Stars against Police FC, who were defeated 4-3 on penalty kicks by Central FC following a 2-2 draw in Sunday’s FCC quarter-finals.

Then from 6 pm at the Ato Boldon Stadium, Central, also the defending league champions, will tackle Defence Force, and simultaneously at the Mahaica Oval, home side Civic will welcome San Juan Jabloteh.

Plaza goal earns Central draw on Russell’s first match against Army.

Central unbeaten in seven; North East Stars and Police grab a point each in 8-goal feast

Willis Plaza scored from the penalty spot Tuesday to level Central FC to a thrilling 2-2 draw with Defence Force in Round One Match Day Two of the Digicel Pro League (DPL) championship 2015-16.

It was one of four drawn encounters while Point Fortin Civic stood the only winners of the day as the DPL took centre stage.

Civic defeated San Juan Jabloteh 2-0 with forwards Shackiel Henry and Jamille Boatswain getting on the scoresheet in the 50th and 84th minutes, respectively, at the Mahaica Oval.

But the day’s first match under the sunny afternoon at the Larry Gomes Stadium saw North East Stars and Police FC take a point each in an 8-goal feast.

North East Stars led 4-2 with 6 minutes of regular time after goals from Keron Cummings, Brendon Figuera, Duane Muckett and Dillon Jaggesar. But stoppage time goals from Kareem Freitas—his second on the day—and Anton Hutchinson earned the Lawmen a spectacular 4-4 comeback draw.

Jameel Perry had opened the scoring for Police’s first item.

Also settling for shared points were W Connection and Morvant Caledonia United (MCU), in a preview of Friday’s First Citizens Cup (FCC) semi-final, which saw them finish 1-1 at the Hasely Crawford Stadium following St. Ann’s Rangers 2-2 draw with Club Sando, the side that booted them out of the FCC last weekend.

Anthony Paris, who equalised for Sando in the 80th minute, scored again in stoppage time to salvage a point for the Pro League newcomers after Rangers defender Jelani Peters had a double of his own with goals in the 62th and 89th minutes.

It was a huge improvement from coach Angus Eve's Rangers which suffered a 3-1 loss to the same side three days ago.

In the second match at the Port of Spain venue, midfielder Jameel Neptune equalised in the 84th minute for MCU after Connection had taken the lead through midfielder Jomal Williams on the hour mark.

Down at the Ato Boldon Stadium, defending DPL champions Central, led this season by former two-time league winning coach of Defence Force, Ross Russell, had the go ahead goal in the 20th minute through forward Marcus Joseph—the pre-season signing completing a move which started from a free-kick for his first goal for the Couva Sharks.

But two minutes later, Defence Force tied the scores 1-1 when forward Kellon Serrette scored from close range after a failed attempt from a teammate in the six-yard area.

Firstly, it was a curious tactic by Defence Force coach Marvin Gordon, a former understudy to Russell, to start Serrette ahead of scoring ace Devorn Jorsling and Richard Roy, especially in their first match against each other.

Despite sharing a close friendship, tonight’s league clash was all business and Gordon’s choice of Serrette up front paid off with the equalising goal.

Defence Force later took to the half with a 2-1 lead, thanks to a goal in the 25th minute by veteran midfielder and team captain Jerwyn Balthazar, who found the far side of goalkeeper Jan-Michael Williams netting following a defensive slack by the Couva Sharks.

Gordon’s side had the chance to add a further blow to Central on the hour mark but midfielder Kerry Joseph smashed his strike low and wide of goal from the penalty spot.

The soldiers won the penalty after a handball in the area by Central defender Jamal Jack, whose outstretched arm intercepted a right side corner. Referee Rashby Mc Phie had allowed play to continue temporarily but wisely consulted his assistant referee Dennis Changiah who waved for the infringement.

That missed effort haunted Defence Force in the 64th minute when Plaza converted from the spot to level Central 2-2, a score which stood at the end.

There was little chance for Defence Force goalie Sheldon Clarke against the in-form forward. However Clarke was brilliant on free-kicks, denying Central on free-kicks in the 50th and 68th minutes by Sean De Silva and Joseph (M), respectively.

As for Plaza, it was the Trinidad and Tobago international’s sixth goal in five matches but more importantly, it extended the Couva Sharks unbeaten run to seven matches in all competitions ahead of Friday’s semi-final round of the 2015 First Citizens Cup, where the two-time defending champions must face Club Sando from 8 pm at the Ato Boldon Stadium in Couva. W Connection and Morvant Caledonia United will do battle in semi-final one from 6 pm.

Referee Mc Phie had awarded the penalty kick after Defence Force defender Curtis Gonzales was ruled guilty of tripping goalward Kevon Villaroel to ground inside the box.

Gordon responded with the introduction of Roy, trading Serrette for the fresh legs of the former Toyota/Pro League Player of the Year. However Roy was only able to manage one strike on target in the 74th minute which Williams got to, then smashed wide from the resulting corner kick play.

Williams also made a crucial stop in stoppage time to blank Defence Force substitute Dave Long as coaches Russell and Gordon had to settle for a point a piece.
