W Connection hold off Police in 6-goal thriller.
ttproleague.com.

W Connection had full points in hand with a 4-2 over Police FC when the dust cleared on Saturday afternoon in Malabar.

The result moved the Savonetta Boys up two spots into fourth on the Digicel Pro League 2015-16 standings with 19 points.

Defence Force are atop the ladder with 24 points followed by defending champions Central FC (21 points) and North East Stars (20 points).

Police had themselves to blame, despite a gutsy comeback attempt at the Larry Gomes Stadium, and walked away sore losers, dropping one spot into fifth with 18 points.

Defender Karlon Murray stuck an own-goal after 2 minutes, and two minutes later it was his giveaway in the area that allowed Connection forward Shahdon Winchester to make it 2-0 with his 7th league goal and 11th in all competitions this season.

Winchester was also involved in the opening goal, when his throw-in played Aikim Andrews in to deliver a dangerous cross, which Murray, in an attempt to win the ball, headed down into his own net.

Makesi Lewis pulled a goal back on 27 minutes for Police, netting his 11th league after pounding in a rebound from close up.

Goalkeeper Julani Archibald, who later stood out as a hero for Connection with three huge stops in the late stages, was only able to parry a powerful effort from Police fullback Kevin Lewis and Makesi made full use of the chance.

Archibald redeemed himself on the stroke of half-time by putting a powerful Makesi strike behind for a corner.

By then Connection had already restored their two-goal lead with a 3-1 score.

Neil Benjamin Jr. produced Connection’s third item on 35 minutes when he blasted a right-footer into the roof of second choice Police goalkeeper Keinol Paul’s net. Benjamin, who was later replaced injured, was unleashed down the right by Winchester and the winger’s speed was too much for a Police chase.

It was not until 58 minutes that Police sliced Connection’s lead again for a 2-3 score when fullback Dexter Alleyne bundled the ball over the line after Archibald had kept out a Murray header on the goal-line.

The Lawmen were inches shy of levelling the scores but an ambitious 35-yard blast from defender Elijah Belgrave clipped the outer side of the upright to the relief of Connection.

Police mounted a few more late raids but Archibald made three late shutouts to keep Connection in front.

Then with nine minutes of regular time left, Connection midfielder Jomal Williams completed the 4-3 win with his 12th goal in all competitions this season.

Paul, who made an excellent save to deny Connection substitute Jamal Charles on 77 minutes, was unable to get glove on Jomal’s curling strike after the midfielder was fed free on the left by Gerard Williams to seal the win.

Kareem Freitas grabs three as Police run riot.
ttproleague.com.

Connection hits seven against Civic and Rangers hold N/E Stars; but D/Force and Central stay ahead

Kareem Freitas scored a hat-trick on Tuesday night as Police FC mauled Morvant Caledonia United 5-0 in the first game of a Digicel Pro League (DPL) double-header at the Marvin Lee Stadium.

The victory snapped a two-game losing slide by coach Richard Hood’s Lawmen, thanks to a first half brace by forward Freitas, who completed the rout and his hat-trick in stoppage-time with his 9th DPL goal this season.

But down at the Ato Boldon Stadium, in the second game of the Couva venue’s double-header, W Connection romped to a 7-1 win over Point Fortin Civic to occupy third position on the 2015-16 standings while Police, a point behind and also moving up one spot, took fourth position at the end of the Round Two Match Day Three slate of games.

It was the second straight outing that Civic have conceded seven goals after last Friday’s 7-0 loss against defending champions Central FC at the same venue.

Civic, now defeated in their last five games, got their lone item through forward Jamille Boatswain on 34 minutes. But the Point Fortin side were trailing in a 3-1 score at the half after being credited with an own goal just 3 minutes on and Connection adding a goal from Dwight Quintero on 9 minutes and Alvin Jones converting from the penalty spot in the 23rd minute.

In the second half Andre Toussaint made it 4-1 in the 53rd minute against his former employers before a double from Suriname forward Dimitrie Apai, netting in the 74th and 80th minutes, and an item from teenager Aikim Andrews in the 81st minute, completed the comfortable Connection win.

Connection may well be making clear their intent ahead of Sunday’s Couva Clasico against Central FC at the same venue.

Central were also in winners’ row on Tuesday night after holding off Club Sando 2-1 in the first game in Couva.

Forward Marcus Joseph and midfielder Ataulla Guerra scored in the 29th and 43rd minutes, respectively, for the Couva Sharks before Shaquille Holder pulled a goal back ten minutes from time for Sando.

The result saw Central join leaders Defence Force on 24 points for a temporary stint at the summit.

However Defence Force, in their bid to lift the 2015-16 DPL crown, restored their three-point lead with a 2-0 win over San Juan Jabloteh in the second game at the Marvin Lee Stadium.

Jabloteh goalie Shemel Louison made a penalty save with his legs on the half hour mark to keep out a poorly taken kick from Devorn Jorsling following a handball in the area.

However the Grenada national team custodian was unable to avoid defeat for the sixth placed Jabloteh after Defence Force found the back of the net twice in the second period.

Forward Brent Sam, recently honoured as last season’s Secondary Schools Football League (SSFL)’s Player of the Year, had Jabloteh’s best chances of the first half. But his audacious heeled attempt saw the ball roll wide in the 20th minute and he headed overbar off a deflected Nathan Lewis attempt four minutes from the break.

But Defence Force’s Jerwyn Balthazar, who will represent Trinidad and Tobago’s Futsal team over the next weekend, broke the deadlock on 56 minutes with his 10th DPL goal of the season.

Balthazar, coming off his beaver-trick performance last Friday, when he handed the leaders a 4-0 win over Rangers, towered the Jabloteh area to head in a Kishun Seecharan corner, after the latter forced Louison into a save and winning the corner.

Defence Force were denied a second item in the 65th minute when Jabloteh’s Jamaican playmaker Fabien Reid cleared substitute Jamali Garcia’s attempt off the line after a corner.

But in stoppage-time, Ross Russell Jr., who hammered high of the target on 66 minutes, sent a low strike into Louison’s far bottom corner after he was played into the area by substitute Hashim Arcia.

Earlier at the Macoya venue, Kareem Freitas put Police ahead 1-0 on 10 minutes with a well-executed strike into goalkeeper Marvin Phillip’s net following a feed into the area by midfielder Kaaron Foster.

That goal came one minute after Caledonia’s Kareem Joseph strike and a rebound effort from Sheldon Holder were both blocked out by Police defenders.

Similarly, Freitas made it 2-0 after Caledonia, again, failed to find the back of the net.

Police goalie Keinol Paul produced a one-handed save in the 35th minute to blank Caledonia winger Jameel Neptune in a one-on-one that should have levelled the scoring.

Paul did well again two minutes later with a low save to tip behind an Akim Armstrong attempt from the right.

Then on 39 minute Freitas handed Police the two-goal cushion when he lifted a strike into the roof of Phillip’s net from above the box after Todd Ryan had won the ball in a scrimmage.

Defender Anton Hutchinson made it 3-0 in the 61st minute when he knocked in a Christon Thomas free-kick swung in from the right after Phillip had made back-to-back saves on 54 minutes to deny Kevin Lewis and a rebound attempt from Mekesi Lewis.

Phillip was beaten again, this time left out to dry by his defence, when Thomas controlled off his chest before letting off a cheeky feed substitute Keon Wilson, who completed the task with a cool finish into the bottom corner for a 4-0 score.

Three minutes from the end of regular time substitute Kyle Bartholomew had an excellent opportunity to salvage a consolation item for Caledonia, however, the attacking midfielder volleyed a perfectly placed Sheldon Holder cross overbar.

Then in stoppage-time Freitas completed his hat-trick with a right-footed blast past Phillip after skipping away from a defender upon collecting a Wilson feed.

Police will return to action on Friday when they visit San Juan Jabloteh from 8 pm at the Hasely Crawford Stadium following a 6 pm kick-off between Defence Force and Club Sando.

North East Stars, who slipped two spots down into fifth on Tuesday after being held 0-0 by ninth placed St. Ann’s Rangers at the Larry Gomes Stadium, will next host Point Fortin Civic from 3:30 pm on Saturday at the same venue.

The Malabar venue will come alive again on Sunday, also from 3:30 pm, when St. Ann’s Rangers and Morvant Caledonia United meet in a bottom-of-the-table clash. Also on Sunday, the feature clash between rivals Central and W Connection kick-off from 4 pm in Couva.

Late Sando penalty goal denies D/Force full points.
ttproleague.com.

Defence Force’s attempt to extend a six-point lead at the top of the Digicel Pro League 2015/16 standings was flattened by Club Sando on Friday night.

Devon Modeste converted a 90th minute penalty kick to level the seventh positioned Club Sando to a 1-1 draw with Defence Force in the first game of a double-header at the Ato Boldon Stadium.

In the second game of the Couva double-header, which also ended with a converted penalty, San Juan Jabloteh, after letting a Sean Bonval-inspired two-goal cushion slip, bounced back to defeat Police FC 4-2.

Nathan Lewis, who ended the night with two goals and winning his side a 90th minute penalty kick, gave the sixth positioned Jabloteh a 1-0 lead after just 6 minutes, when he smashed in a rebound from close up.

Winger Sean Bonval, in his first start for the San Juan Kings, was brilliant in the opening stages, which included putting his team 2-0 up in the 9th minute with a headed goal from a throw in and rattling the crossbar on 20 minutes.

The 19-year-old Bonval was also instrumental in the opening item after his unstoppable run down the left and into the box created the scoring chance for striker Jamal Gay, who was denied by goalkeeper Paul before Lewis fired in the rebound.

However Police rebounded through a goal each from scoring aces Makesi Lewis and Kareem Freitas, separated by the break, to level the scores 2-2.

Lewis, who was denied a second two minutes from the half, was picked out at the centre of the area in the 37th minute by Jibri Mc David following a powerful run down the left, and fired in a left-footed strike past Jabloteh goalie Shemel Louison to reduce the deficit.

Freitas equalised on 49 minutes when his glancing header off a Christon Thomas free kick sunk into Louison’s goal.

Police were awarded the free-kick after Jabloteh left-back Jerome Mc Intyre had sent Kevin Lewis tumbling to ground. Lewis was replaced injured.

The excitement didn’t stop there.

Jabloteh were back in front 3-2 on the hour mark when Lewis, who had earlier been denied along with Gay by ‘keeper Paul, sent a strike beyond the Police goalie.

Paul was later ejected by a direct red card out of referee Nicholas Gloudon’s pocket after hacking down Lewis in the area on 90 minutes.

Jamaican defensive midfielder Adrian Reid stepped up to the spot and converted past defender Anton Hutchinson for a 4-2 score, putting a second comeback attempt out of Police’s reach.

Hutchinson had taken the responsibility of ‘keeper as Police, with first choice goalie Adrian Foncette currently on trials in Turkey, stood without a back-up goalkeeper on the substitutes’ bench.

Police substitute Keon Wilson had two bites of the cherry five minutes from time at the edge of the six-yard area but couldn’t find the back of the net.

And a minute earlier an attempted clearance by Jabloteh penalty scorer Fabian Reid sliced a dangerous Freitas cross onto his own crossbar, causing a scare for the eventual winners.

In the earlier game, referee Dennis Changiah pointed to the penalty spot, ruling a foul against Defence Force, who were two minutes away from stretching a six-point lead at the top of the DPL standings.

Goalkeeper Sheldon Clarke, who had made a superb 23rd minute save to deny Kevon Woodley, picked the correct side. But Modeste clinical penalty strike flew beyond the Clarke’s reach to earn the seventh positioned Sando their 11th point of the season.

While Defence Force (28 points), with their one point earned, are now four points clear of defending DPL champions Central FC (24 points), who must tackle last season’s runners-up W Connection (22 points) from 4 pm on Sunday at the same Ato Boldon Stadium.

Defence Force, without instrumental midfielder and the team’s top scorer this season, Jerwyn Balthazar, had broken the deadlock through a headed goal in the 57th minute from midfielder Sean Narcis, who failed to continue beyond the 83rd minute with suspected muscle spasm.

The veteran defensive midfielder put the ball past goalkeeper Kelvin Henry at the back post, but had right-back Curtis Gonzales to credit.

Gonzales provided the perfect delivery from a cross that left the Sando defence, including Henry beaten.

Twenty-seven-year-old pre-season acquisition, Hashim Arcia, got his first Defence Force start of the season in the absence of Balthazar, but definitely needs more time in shaking off the rust and becoming his old self.

Arcia created a 12th minute scoring chance for Ross Russell Jr., who fired wide, before sending a half-volleyed attempt just high on 24 minutes.

Defence Force substitute Kellon Serrette had the best chance to snatch victory after he was played towards goal in stoppage-time, but Sando goalkeeper who had much earlier blanked substitute Richard Roy, produced another shutout.

Balthazar along with midfielder Kerry Joseph are on international duty this weekend with the Trinidad and Tobago Futsal team in Cuba for Caribbean qualifying stage of the FIFA Futsal World Cup 2016.

Meanwhile action in the DPL will continue over the weekend.

On Saturday (today), fifth positioned North East Stars, tied on 21 points with fourth positioned Police, will welcome eight placed Point Fortin Civic (10 points) from 3:30 p.m. at the Larry Gomes Stadium.

The Larry Gomes Stadium will come alive again on Sunday from 3:30 pm with a bottom-of-the-table clash between ninth positioned St. Ann’s Rangers and bottom positioned Morvant Caledonia United.

While at the Ato Boldon Stadium, rivals Central and W Connection will battle in the latest Couva Clasico to complete the weekend fixtures.

Miles Goodman saves a penalty and wins Civic a point at N/E Stars.
ttproleague.com.

Goalkeeper Miles Goodman produced a second half penalty kick save on Saturday afternoon to rescue a point for Point Fortin Civic in a 0-0 draw with North East Stars.

The stalemate, however, didn’t come as a surprise after a lacklustre display by both teams, who might easily blame the early afternoon heat due to the 3:30 p.m. kick-off at the Larry Gomes Stadium.

But the home side, North East Stars, did have an excellent opportunity to take the lead on 59 minutes after referee Kevin Smart pointed to the spot for a handball in the area against Civic captain Kelvin Modeste.

However goalkeeper Goodman rescued the visitors with a low save on his left to keep out a poorly struck kick from Trinidad and Tobago international Neveal Hackshaw.

Ten minutes later Goodman produced another save, on the only other on-target attempt of the game, when he charged down a left-footed strike from 15-year-old North East Stars debutant Keshon Hackshaw.

Keshon, the cousin of Neveal Hackshaw, was one of two substitutes, including Gorean Highley, used in attack by coach Ross Russell in the final 30 minutes.

Both substitutes added late life to the Digicel Pro League 2015/16 Round Two Match Day Four fixture but weren’t enough to avoid a stalemate.

The result snapped a five-game losing streak for the eight positioned Civic (11 points), which included back-to-back defeats at Central FC (7-0) and W Connection (7-1), respectively.

Meanwhile North East Stars, now undefeated in their last five outings since the arrival of Russell, with two wins and three draws, moved up a spot into fourth on the Digicel Pro League 2015/16 standings with 22 points as third positioned W Connection.

Connection will meet second positioned defending champions Central FC (24 points) from 4 p.m. at the Ato Boldon Stadium on Sunday, with both teams attempting to close the gap on leaders Defence Force (28 points).

Also on Sunday, the Larry Gomes Stadium will come alive again from 3:30 pm with a bottom-of-the-table clash between ninth positioned St. Ann’s Rangers (9 points) and bottom positioned Morvant Caledonia United (7 points).

Guerra penalty goal ties Couva Clasico as 10-man Central and Connection share points.
ttproleague.com.

Ataulla Guerra converted a second half penalty, before teammate Jamal Jack was sent off, as Central FC rallied from a goal down to hold W Connection to a 1-1 draw in the latest Couva Clasico.

The result applied little pressure on Digicel Pro League 2015/16 leaders Defence Force, who were held to a surprising 1-1 draw by Club Sando on Friday night.

Defence Force are at the summit with 28 points, while defending champions Central FC and last season’s runners-up W Connection, occupying second and third, are 25 and 23 points, respectively.

Former Central FC forward Dwight Quintero fired Connection ahead eight minutes before the break on Sunday at the Ato Boldon Stadium.

The 22-year-old Quintero side-footed a Kurt Frederick cross into goalkeeper Jan-Michael Williams’ far netting for only his 4th goal of the season in all competitions.

But on 64 minutes, Guerra, who flashed an effort inches overbar in the 15th minute, equalised from the spot with a clinical strike past W Connection second choice goalkeeper Terrence Lewis for his 7th goal in all domestic competitions this season.

Lewis started between the uprights in absence of regular goalie Julani Archibald. Archibald, St. Kitts/Nevis national team goalkeeper, due to a calve injury, joined forward Shahdon Winchester (hip) and winger Neil Benjamin Jr. (hamstring) on the injury list earlier this week.

Referee Callum Marshall awarded Central the kick from the spot after striker Marcus Joseph was brought down in the box by defender Gerard Williams.

“I’m not sure if the penalty was a good one, but I will review it on video,” said W Connection technical director/head coach Stuart Charles-Fevrier after the game.

Charles-Fevrier, though, conceded that his side made too many mistakes in possession, which Central dominated. But believes his side should have won the game.

“I thought we could have played better,” added the Connection coach, who led the Savonetta Boys to the First Citizens Cup (defeating Central in the final) and Toyota Classic (defeating Central in the semi-final round) this season.

“Although Central had more possession, they never really created any [scoring] chance.

“It was a game I felt we could have done better in our overall performance. We didn’t balance the game enough and made too many simple mistakes in possession. And because of that our attacks were infrequent. But all in all it’s a point we will have to accept and move on.”

Central’s Jack, who was booked six minutes before the break for a foul, received his second yellow card, followed by the subsequent red card, for a sliding tackle on Gerard Williams in an attempt to win the ball some 30 yards from the Connection goal on 73 minutes.

Connection with the numerical advantage got closest to a late winner when attacking midfielder Jomal Williams curled an attempt a whisker wide of the far upper corner after slipping past defender Akeem Benjamin in the area.

Goalkeeper Williams, who made a stop four minutes before the break to deny Frederick, could have done little had Jomal calibrated his strike a few inches left.

In the end, 1-1 it stood, the same as it ended when both teams met in Round One of the DPL last November.

“Although we wanted the win… we will take the draw,” said Central FC interim coach Dale Saunders at the end of his first Couva Clasico in charge.

Saunders, who now stands unbeaten after six games since taking occupying the position in December, continued, “We dominated possession but didn’t take advantage of it. Connection got a well-taken goal but we changed things in the second half and got the [equalising] goal and I thought we could have gotten another goal. But we had a player sent off.

“Considering having a player sent off and Connection not being easy opponents, we accept the result.”

On the opposite end of the league table, Morvant Caledonia United moved off the bottom with a 2-1 win over St. Ann’s Rangers on Sunday at the Larry Gomes Stadium.

A first half brace by Sheldon Holder, netting in the 14th and 33rd minutes, did the trick for Caledonia although Rangers pulled a goal back through Kadeem Hutchinson on 35 minutes.

Rangers, now at the bottom with 9 points, will next face W Connection from 3:30 p.m. at the Larry Gomes Stadium on Wednesday.

Also on Wednesday, Caledonia, with 10 points in ninth, will meet fourth positioned North East Stars (22 points) from 6 p.m. at the Ato Boldon Stadium, followed by Central FC versus sixth positioned San Juan Jabloteh from 8 p.m. at the Couva venue.

Defence Force go six points clear in Pro League.
ttproleague.com.

Jemel Sebro and Ross Russell Jr. shine as Defence Force punish Police goalkeeping troubles
Modeste nets double as Sando whip Civic in Mahaica

Defence Force extended their lead at the top of the Digicel Pro League standings by six points on Tuesday with a comfortable 4-0 win over Police FC at the Larry Gomes Stadium.

Wingers Jemel Sebro and Ross Russell Jr. each grabbed a first half double for the Army/Coast Guard combination, while fifth positioned Police (21 points), facing continued goalkeeping problems, finished empty handed.

The win puts the Marvin Gordon coached-Defence Force’s tally at 31 points at the top of the standings – six points clear of defending champions and second positioned Central FC (25 points) – and undefeated in their last nine league games.

Central, however, will attempt to slice Defence Force’s lead when they tackle sixth positioned San Juan Jabloteh (20 points) from 8 p.m. on Wednesday 27 Jan. at the Ato Boldon Stadium, following a 6 p.m. kick-off between ninth positioned Morvant Caledonia United (10 points) and fourth positioned North East Stars (22 points) at the Couva venue.

Also on Wednesday, W Connection (23 points), occupying third position, must travel to the Larry Gomes Stadium against bottom-of-the-table St. Ann’s Rangers from 3:30 p.m. with a chance at closing in on Defence Force.

Defence Force were last defeated by Police FC on Dec. 11 in Round One. That match ended 1-0 with a 70th minute Makesi Lewis goal.

But on Tuesday, revenge was the motivation as Defence Force completed the 4-0 rout before the break.

Sebro, making the best of a rare start this season, scored in the 14th and 18th minutes for the soldiers before supplying the perfect cross for Russell Jr., who scored on 27 minutes, to head past Police debuting goalkeeper Perry O’Connor to complete his double five minutes before the break.

Sebro, however, was unable to continue beyond the 66th minute after he was brought down on the right by Police defender Dexter Alleyne.

Five minutes earlier, following a play started on the left involving Sebro, Hashim Arcia was denied by the legs of O’Connor from close up after an return pass from striker Jorsling.

But that didn’t avoid a nightmare professional debut for the 20-year-old O’Connor, a former Diego Martin North Secondary and Petit Valley United goalkeeper, who got the nod due to problems in the Police goalkeeping department.

First choice goalie Adrian Foncette is away on trials in Turkey for the past couple weeks, while second choice Reinol Paul was suspended for the encounter due to a red card he picked up in Friday’s 4-2 loss against San Juan Jabloteh.

“It would be easy to blame the goalkeeper (O’Connor) for today’s result,” said Police head coach Richard Hood. “But that wasn’t the full problem. I can admit that O’Connor didn’t look as good as he did in training yesterday that gave him the pick ahead of Akeemo Williams. But we can’t blame him.

“We lacked discipline as a team. We had to change the dynamics of the team because [defender] Jibri Mc David is suspended on cards accumulation and winger Kevin Lewis is out with a fractured scapula he picked up in a foul on him last Friday. We were forced to play a few players out of their regular positions and they clearly had the incorrect attitude about it.

“We did improve in the second half but weren’t great,” ended Hood, who believes his side should have shown more professionalism on the day.

Police forward and this season’s leading DPL scorer with 14 goals, Makesi Lewis, had the best scoring opportunity for the Lawmen in the 73rd minute but Defence Force goalie Sheldon Clarke did well to put the effort behind for a corner.

Defence Force also had late scoring opportunities but Arcia lifted a half volley overbar in the 75th minute and in the final minute of play double-scorer Russell, now with 7 league goals this season, failed to increase his tally when he struck high following a solo move down the right.

Down at the Mahica Oval on Tuesday night, Devon Modeste scored on either side of the break as Club Sando defeated home side Point Fortin Civic 3-1 in a bottom-half clash and improved their position at seventh with 14 points.

Modeste converted his second penalty in the last five days when he put the visitors ahead on 19 minutes before Shaquille Holder made it 2-0 in the 22th minute.

Jamille Boatswain reduced the deficit for the home side in the 51st minute, but couldn’t avoid the eight positioned Civic’s seventh straight game without a win.

Civic (11 points) last won a game on Dec. 15 when they edged Morvant Caledonia United 1-0.

DEFENCE FORCE BLANK POLICE – When Police F.C and the Defence Force stepped out at the Larry Gomes Stadium on Tuesday, it was not a joint patrol but another meeting in the Digicel Pro League. In the end the “men of war” prevailed over the “men of law”.

Central trounce Jabloteh 5-0 to slice D/Force lead.
ttproleague.com.

W Connection keeps pace after edging Rangers and Caledonia stun 10-man N/E Stars

Central FC cruised to a 5-0 win over San Juan Jabloteh on Wednesday night to slice the six-point lead of Digicel Pro League 2015/16 leaders Defence Force in half.

Defence Force (31 points) moved six clear of defending champions and second positioned Central on Tuesday afternoon with a 4-0 win over Police.

But a first minute goal from winger Darren Mitchell sent the Couva Sharks on their way to maximum points in the second game of a double-header at the Ato Boldon Stadium on Wednesday.

Granting the sixth-positioned Jabloteh (20 points) only tipped over when flood gates opened beyond the hour mark as Central FC forward Marcus Joseph (65th minute) and midfielders Nathaniel Garcia (66th minute), Ataulla Guerra (73rd minute) and Sean De Silva (75th minute) each got on the scoresheet.

The win improved Central, now on a seven-game unbeaten run and led by interim coach Dale Saunders, on 28 points—three points ahead of third positioned W Connection (26 points), who edged cellar-positioned St. Ann's Rangers 2-1 earlier at the Larry Gomes Stadium on Wednesday.

Jomal Williams scored one and set up another for the Savonetta Boys before an improved Rangers side, since both sides last met on Dec. 12, pulled a goal back through Trevin Latapy.

Jomal, who scored a hattrick in a 5-0 win over Rangers in their last meeting, notched his 8th league of the season and 13th goal in all competitions on 27 minutes after he was fed in the area by Andre Toussaint.

The 21-year-old star Connection midfielder later picked out Triston Hodge with a cross from the left on 52 minutes and Hodge was clinical in heading past Rangers goalie Christopher Biggette.

Two minutes later Connection goalkeeper Terrence Lewis was forced into an excellent save when he pushed behind a powerfully-struck Sayid Freitas free-kick to preserve the Savonetta Boys’ two-goal cushion.

That was until Trevin Latapy sliced Connection’s lead 2-1 with a powerful blast in the 65th minute off a rebound to find the back of Lewis’ net from inside the area.

Lewis was unable to recover after pulling off a superb save to deny Kadeem Hutchinson following an initial effort from Argentine midfielder Miguel Romeo was blocked out by a Connection defender.

The item, though, came as redemption for Rangers after a handball shout in the Connection area went ignored on 57 minutes.

Connection had a late attempt after Jomal made little work of right-back Jameel Antoine before unleashing substitute Jamal Charles into the area on 90 minutes, but Biggette provided a low save to deny the Savonetta Boys a third.

In Wednesday’s other result, Morvant Caledonia United continued their rise off the bottom with a 3-1 win over 10-man North East Stars.

Midfielder Akim Andrews put Caledonia ahead in the first minute of play before Jomoul Francois equalised on 19 minutes for North East Stars.

Longstanding Caledonia captain Kareem Joseph made it 2-1 on 25 minutes which took the stallions into the break on top and on their way to a fourth league win this season.

North East Stars chances of a second comeback-goal was dampened in the 73rd minute when forward Gorean "Ratty" Highley was issued a direct red card by referee Crystal Sobers for violent conduct.

And eight minutes from time Pernell Schultz completed the 3-1 Caledonia win from the penalty spot after a handball in the area by Stars.

The win, Caledonia’s second in a row, moved Stallions up a spot into eight-position on the 10-team table with 13 points, while North East Stars remain fourth with 22 points.

Caledonia will next face Club Sando from 6 p.m. at the Ato Boldon Stadium on Friday, followed by an 8 p.m. kick-off between Central FC and Police FC.

Also on Friday, Point Fortin Civic will welcome leaders Defence Force from 6 p.m. at the Mahaica Oval.

The action continues over the weekend with Rangers against Jabloteh from 3:30 p.m. at the Larry Gomes Stadium on Saturday, and on Sunday, with the same kick-off time and venue, North East Stars will welcome W Connection, currently on a five-game unbeaten stretch.

Joseph double puts Central within one point of Army; Sando edge Caledonia.
ttproleague.com.

Defending Digicel Pro League champions Central FC moved within one point of current leaders Defence Force after a 3-0 win over Police FC on Friday night.

Striker Marcus Joseph scored twice in the Couva Sharks’ second half scoring spree in the second game of a double-header at the Ato Boldon Stadium after Defence Force were held to a 0-0 stalemate at home to ninth-positioned Point Fortin Civic at the Mahaica Oval.

The result in Point Fortin put Defence Force at 32 points, while, with maximum points earned in Couva, Central, who ended with 10 men after a second yellow card sending off of captain Jamal Jack, took their tally to 31 points.

W Connection are third with 26 points and will travel to the Larry Gomes Stadium on Sunday against fourth-positioned North East Stars from 3:30 p.m.

Joseph, with the help of some luck, fired in a laser on 52 minutes to beat Police goalkeeper Keinol Paul for a 1-0 Central lead from 25 yards out.

Joseph, who was denied by Paul in the 38th minute and lifted another attempt overbar three minutes later, attempted to find Ataulla Guerra on the left, but the intercepted pass was back into the path of the Central forward who capitalised from distance.

A minute later Paul denied Joseph a second, putting a rebound effort behind for a corner after defender Dexter Alleyne had cleared off the line to keep out an overhead attempt by Jason Marcano.

But on 55 minutes Central grabbed a 2-0 cushion when Tobago-born winger Darren Mitchell fired past Paul from inside the area following a Guerra feed.

Police had matched Central in a keenly contested first half, but crumbled in the second and the third goal came in bizarre fashion.

Central goalkeeper Jan-Michael Williams launched a free-kick from midway in his own half in the 67th minute and the ball, to some extent, skidded off the head of Joseph before entering the Police net for a 3-0 score and Joseph’s eight league goal this season.

It was the final blow for Police, slumping to their third consecutive loss, although maintaining fifth position with 21 points.

Central, though, lost defensive midfielder Jack to his second yellow card with ten minutes left following a dangerous tackle on Police forward Makesi Lewis.

In the earlier contest at the Couva venue, utility player Devon Modeste earned Club Sando a hard-fought 1-0 win over Morvant Caledonia United, quelling the visitors attempt of a third straight win.

Modeste netted on 65 minutes against his past employers for his fourth league goal this season, but it was the heroics of goalkeeper Kelvin Henry that really stood in Caledonia’s way.

Henry produced excellent saves to deny Kareem Joseph on either side of the half and Akim Armstrong on the hour mark, all after Caledonia’s Gregory President had clipped the crossbar with a headed attempt off a Joseph corner in the 26th minute, and four minutes later Joseph had sent a free-kick just wide of the bottom corner.

Caledonia, too, had their goalkeeper Marvin Phillip to praise for the least embarrassing score-line.

The Trinidad and Tobago goalie made a point blank save just four minutes into the game to put a Kevon “Showtime” Woodley attempt out for a corner, and in the 36th minute Phillip made back-to-back saves to deny Akeem Humphrey and Bradley Nestor, respectively.

In the end, Sando maintained seventh position with an improved 17 points, four points ahead of eight positioned Caledonia, and three points behind sixth positioned San Juan Jabloteh, who must tackle cellar-placed St. Ann’s Rangers from 3:30 p.m. at the Larry Gomes Stadium today (Saturday).

Jabloteh survives courageous Rangers claw back attempt.
ttproleague.com.

San Juan Jabloteh walked away with maximum three points on Saturday afternoon with a 3-2 win, but not as Kings after nervously avoiding a courageous claw back attempt by cellar-placed St. Ann’s Rangers.

With the result, the Keith Jeffrey-coached Jabloteh (23 points) hurdled North East Stars (22 points) for fourth position on the Digicel Pro League 2015/16 standings.

However Sangre Grande-based Stars will attempt a return to the top-four when they welcome third-place W Connection from 3:30 p.m. at the Larry Gomes Stadium on Sunday.

Nineteen-year-old Jabloteh attacker Sean Bonval scored one and set up another, scored by Jamal Gay, for an early two-goal cushion before Jamaican defender Adrian Reid made it 3-0 from the penalty spot before the break.

But Rangers, possibly triggered by the half-time advice from coach Angus Eve, stormed back in the second half with goals from Keron Cornwall and Kadeem Hutchinson, and were denied an equalising goal two minutes from time by Jabloteh goalie Shemel Louison.

Bonval, a former Rangers youth player, handed the San Juan Kings a 1-0 lead just six minutes into the clash at the Larry Gomes Stadium with a curling strike from the edge of the box to beat Rangers goalkeeper Christopher Biggette.

And striker Jamal Gay made it 2-0 on 15 minutes with a simple finish into Biggette’s far bottom corner following a feed from Bonval.

It seemed the end for Rangers six minutes from the half when Adrian Reid converted from the penalty spot for a 3-0 score after Jordan Devonish was tripped inside the area by defender Shaquille Moses.

But just three minutes inside the second period Cornwall reduced the Rangers’ deficit 1-3 with a delightful free-kick goal from 25 yards out.

Then on 63 minutes Hutchinson added a second Rangers’ item for a 3-2 score when his strike from close range had too much sting for the glove of Louison.

However it was Louison that had the last say, denying midfielder Kevon Piper from close range in the 88th minute as Jabloteh held on for the win.

It was Piper’s third on-target attempt on the afternoon after his 21st minute strike was cleared off the line by defender Adrian Reid and four minutes later saw his header tipped overbar by Louison.

Despite their spirited effort, Rangers remain at the bottom with 9 points.

W Connection humiliate N/E Stars 7-0 to close gap on D/Force.
ttproleague.com.

W Connection were in top form on Sunday, annihilating North East Stars 7-0 in a lopsided affair at the Larry Gomes Stadium, and in the process eclipsing a 7-1 performance they achieved against Point Fortin Civic on January 19.

A double each from 19-year-old Shannon Gomez and 21-year-old Jomal Williams, and one each from 21-year-old Dimitrie Apai, veteran Andre Toussaint and 19-year-old Aikim Andrews ensured coach Stuart Charles-Fevrier’s side stacked up on confidence ahead of the two-week Carnival break with their biggest win margin of the season.

The win improved Connection's hold on third place on the Digicel Pro League 2015/16 standings with 29 points, three points off leaders Defence Force (32 points) and one point behind second-place and defending champions Central FC (31 points). While North East Stars, now winless in their last four outings, remain fifth with 22 points—one less than fourth-place San Juan Jabloteh (23 points).

Conversely, Sunday's result was the Sangre Grande based North East Stars biggest league defeat of the season since a 6-1 loss to Defence Force on December 19 under previous coach Roland Clarke.

Defence Force holds the biggest league win of the season with an 8-0 victory over Morvant Caledonia United on January 8, equalling North East Stars result over Super League side Siparia Spurs in the preliminary round of this season’s Toyota Classic on November 4, 2015.

Although now led by two-time Defence Force Pro League-winning coach Ross Russell and former Dundee United and 2006 Trinidad and Tobago attacker Collin Samuel as assistant coach, North East Stars failed to put up resistance against the side that defeated them 3-0 in both Round One of the league and in the quarter-final round of the Toyota Classic this season.

Jomal Williams fired the Savonetta Boys ahead on 14 minutes by beating Stars’ second choice goalie Shane Mattis from inside the area, while regular number one Cleon John looked on from the bench.

There was no let-up from the visitors and Surinamese international forward Apai made it 2-0 four minutes later when he fired in a Kurt Frederick cross at the back post.

Connection’s quickness in the attacking third – even without the services of Shahdon Winchester and Neil Benjamin, who are sidelined due to injury along with first choice goalie Julani Archibald – produced three more goals before the break after proving too much for the North East Stars defence.

Shannon Gomez snatched a double – his first Connection goals of the season – before the half, first firing in a Dwight Quintero feed following a flowing move by Connection on 31 minutes, then rounded defender Glenton Wolfe before slotting the ball past the Stars’ goalie in stoppage-time of the first half for a 5-0 score.

Gomez also had an assist when his cross in the 37th minute was met by Toussaint ahead of Mattis with a volley into the North East Stars net.

The veteran playmaker Toussaint taking goal tally to six goals in all competitions this season, inclusive of a goal in each of the three games against North East Stars.

Mattis was hung out to dry again by his defence after producing two saves to deny Jomal, who wrapped up his double in the 65th minute.

St. Lucia international fullback Frederick dispatched another brilliant cross beyond Mattis and Jomal, for his 10th league goal and 15th in all competitions this season, did well to get into position to head into the net for a 6-0 score.

Two minutes later Jomal and Gomez later linked up in the box before the latter provided a pass that allowed 19-year-old substitute Aikim Andrews to blast the ball into Mattis’ top corner to wrap up the 7-0 dominance.

Another Connection substitute, Jamal Charles, who replaced forward Dwight Quintero just over the hour mark, was denied by Mattis on his first touch after a defence-splitting pass from Toussaint on 77 minutes.

However Mattis and his North East Stars teammates will have the next two weeks, with the help of their coaching staff and maybe the mid-season transfer window (January 29 – February 26) to try prepare for their next game against leaders Defence Force when action resumes on the weekend of February 12-14, while W Connection will face San Juan Jabloteh.

Ryan snatches late double in Police five-star win over Sando.
ttproleague.com.

Toussaint goal lifts Connection level with D/Force after edging Jabloteh

Police FC snapped a three-game losing streak with a comprehensive 5-0 hammering of Club Sando on the resumption of the Digicel Pro League, following the Carnival break, on Friday night.

Police team captain and veteran midfielder Todd Ryan scored a late double at the Ato Boldon Stadium to put the icing on the cake after first-half goals from Kadeem Riley, Kareem Freitas and Makesi Lewis had the seventh-placed Sando spinning out before the break.

The result pushed the Lawmen up two spots into fourth on the standings with 24 points, one point ahead of San Juan Jabloteh, who slipped a spot into fifth before being edged 2-1 against W Connection in the second game of the Couva double-header.

Connection veteran midfielder Andre Toussaint snatched the winner on 66 minutes to lift the Savonetta Boys up a spot into second with 32 points, but only behind DPL leaders Defence Force on a lesser goal-difference (26 to 32).

Defence Force, however, will attempt to pull away by the end of this weekend when they visit fifth-placed North East Stars from 3:30 pm on Sunday at the Larry Gomes Stadium, while defending champions Central FC, dropping in third with 31 points, will take on eight-placed Morvant Caledonia United from 4 pm on the same day at the Ato Boldon Stadium.

Connection, though, lead the Akeem Adams Round Two with 19 points from six wins and one draw, while Central and Defence Force are second and third with 14 and 12 points, respectively.

Jomal Williams fired Connection ahead in the 16th minute for his 11th league goal this season from the edge the area to find goalkeeper Shemel Louison’s bottom corner.

But eight minutes later Jabloteh’s diminutive midfield talent, Jamaican Fabian Reid, equalised with a chipped goal over goalkeeper Julani Archibald to put the score at 1-1.

Striker Jamal Gay had an excellent opportunity to put Jabloteh in front on 54 minutes, but his effort was charged down by defender Kevon Goddard.

Winger Nathan Lewis had produced a brilliant run from the half, showing off his lightning speed and skill to evade Triston Hodge and Gerard Williams along the way, before entering the area and squaring a pass to Gay.

It would haunt Jabloteh later when Toussaint turned in a deflected Shannon Gomez cross seconds after Louison had pushed behind a Shahdon Winchester header for a corner.

Winchester, goalkeeper Archibald and second half substitutes Alvin Jones and Neil Benjamin, who was denied by the legs of Louison two minutes after the restart, marked their return from injury in coach Stuart Charles-Fevrier’s seventh straight unbeaten game.

In the earlier game, Police, led by assistant coach Andy Roberts in the absence of head coach Richard Hood who is on international duty as coach of the Trinidad and Tobago Women’s Team currently in the US for Rio 2016 Olympic qualifiers, made clear their intent from early on.

Winger Riley put Police in front 1-0 on 15 minutes when his in-swinging corner proved too much for the gloves of goalkeeper Kelvin Henry before entering the Sando net.

Kareem Freitas then doubled the advantage in the 26th minute on a quick counterattack involving Kaaron Foster and Makesi Lewis, with the latter slipping the final pass to strike partner Freitas to make it 2-0 with his 11th league goal of the season.

Lewis, this season’s leading league scorer, got to his 14th goal by converting from the spot for a 3-0 lead four minutes before the break, by which time already outperforming a 2-0 win achieved over Sando on Dec. 18 in round one.

Referee Rodphin Harris awarded the penalty, ruling that Lewis was fouled in the area by defender Corneal Thomas. Sando disputed Harris’ decision after both players went to ground with knocks to their heads but the protest only resulted in Kemuel Rivers joining Thomas on the caution list.

Rivers’ frustration spilled over in the 88th minute as his side struggled to find a way back and Harris awarded the full-back his second yellow card, quickly followed by the red, following a dangerous tackle on Police substitute midfielder Devon Jamerson.

Goalkeeper Jason Belfon, one of four Grenada national team signings in the transfer window (January 29-Februay 26) made by Sando, was forced into his debut immediately after the break, while Spice Boys teammate Rickson Phillip was introduced late up front.

Regular goalie Kelvin Henry was injured after colliding with Grenada national team captain and another Sando debutant, Shannon Phillip, in a desperate attempt to avert danger just before the half. But Belfon, despite getting glove to two Todd Ryan attempts, failed to prevent the goals.

Ryan made it 4-0 with a 23-yard free-kick, beating the glove of Belfon. And to add salt to the wounds of Sando, the Police team captain got to his double for the 5-0 finish in open play with another strike off the fingers of Belfon.

The weekend fixtures continue today (Saturday) with Point Fortin Civic welcoming St. Ann’s Rangers from 5 pm at the Mahaica Oval in Point Fortin.

Central take Pro League lead after D/Force’s Valentine’s Day slip.
ttproleague.com.

Jean-Luc Rochford announced his return to North East Stars with a Valentine’s Day corner-kick goal against Defence Force before both sides walked away with a point in Sunday’s 1-1 draw.

The failure to bag full points saw Defence Force (33 points) slip off the top and into second, just one point ahead of W Connection, after defending champions and the former side of Rochford, Central FC (34 points), leapfrogged both teams to move to the summit.

Central, also in action on Sunday, edged Morvant Caledonia United 2-1 at the Ato Boldon Stadium as interim head coach Dale Saunders stretched his unbeaten run to eight games since taking over from sacked coach Ross Russell in mid-December.

Marcus Joseph fired the Couva Sharks ahead on 18 minutes before defender Ranaldo Bailey put Caledonia level in the 45th minute.

But a late winner –with two minutes of regular-time left – by midfielder Jason Marcano ensured Central continued their upward thrust with a third straight win while benefitting from Defence Force’s earlier draw at the Larry Gomes Stadium.

Rochford, a former Trinidad and Tobago FIFA Under-17 and Under-20 World Cup player, with the knack for special goals, which includes T&T’s first ever U-20 World Cup goal in 2009, found the back of the Defence Force net with his direct kick from the corner to put North East Stars ahead on 33 minutes.

Rochford’s corner kick entered the top near corner following a bit of indecisiveness between goalkeeper Sheldon Clarke and his defensive guard at the goal-line.

Rochford, who also had previous stints at San Juan Jabloteh, Caledonia and North East Stars, re-joined the Sangre Grande club as part of coach Ross Russell’s January/February transfer window signings that includes 34-year-old former Scotland-based attacker and T&T 2006 World Cup player, Collin Samuel, returning Stars midfielder Kion Joseph, Kerry Daniel and Anthony Guppy.

Rochford, who had memorable goals at previous clubs including Caledonia’s first-ever Caribbean Club Championship goal, was denied a second item on Sunday when his free-kick from 24-yards out cannoned off the base of the upright.

However Rochford, who was later replaced in the 75th minute by Taryk Sampson, turned hero-to-villain when his foul on the Defence Force substitute Kerry Joseph led to the Army/Coast Guard combination’s equalising-goal in the 66th minute.

Joseph, known for his pin-point crossing, whipped his free-kick towards the back post to find a waving Jamali Garcia, who headed the ball back across goalkeeper Cleon John’s six-yard area allowing Aklie Edwards to head home at the goalmouth.

North East Stars, winless in their last five games, continues to occupy sixth-place and tied on 23 points with fifth-placed San Juan Jabloteh.

Police FC, 5-0 winners over Club Sando on Friday, are fourth with 24 points, while, in descending order, Sando (17 points), Point Fortin Civic, Caledonia (13 points) and St. Ann’s Rangers (10 points) occupy the bottom end of the standings.

Rangers, already achieving twice the tally they achieved in last season’s bottom-of-the-table finish, held 10-man home side Point Fortin Civic to a late 1-1 draw on Saturday at Mahaica Oval.

Glenn Sutton put Civic ahead on 88 minutes after teammate Shaquille Stewart was sent off in the 74th minute to a second yellow card.

However winger Kevon Piper made certain Rangers didn’t leave Point Fortin empty handed after tying the game in the fourth minute of stoppage-time, denying Civic a win in their last nine games.

Civic will return to action on Tuesday 16 February against Caledonia from 8 pm at the Marvin Lee Stadium following a 6 pm kick-off between Defence Force and W Connection in a top-of-the-table clash.

Simultaneously at the Ato Boldon Stadium on Tuesday, Police will welcome Rangers from 6 pm, before Central and North East Stars lock horns in coach Russell’s first match against his former employers.

And on Wednesday in a lone fixture at the Larry Gomes Stadium, Jabloteh and Sando will meet from 3:30 pm.

Penalty goal gives Jabloteh edge over new-look Sando.
ttproleague.com.

San Juan Jabloteh bounced back after letting in own-goal to defeat Club Sando 2-1 at the Larry Gomes Stadium this afternoon (Wednesday) in their Round Two Match Day Eight clash of the 2015/16 Digicel Pro League.

Sando went ahead on 65 minutes through an own-goal credited to Jabloteh midfielder Keyon Edwards after an attempt by defender Jerome Mc Intyre to clear a dangerous Ryan Frederick cross, cannoned the ball off his teammate and back into goalkeeper Shemel Louison’s net.

But Jabloteh, who hammered Sando 6-0 when both sides met on Dec. 15 in Round One, levelled the scores 1-1 through Garth Thomas before Jamaican Adrian converted from the penalty spot to secure full points for the Keith Jeffrey coached-side.

Jabloteh remains fifth but with an improved tally of 26 points, one point behind fourth-placed Police FC but 11 points away from leaders and defending champions, Central FC.

Jeffrey’s decision to push defender Garth Thomas in the middle while introducing January/February transfer window signing Akeem Benjamin from Central FC in right-back at the expense of forward Sean Bonval, paid off.

Thomas, set free into the area by a through-ball, fired Jabloteh level in the 70th minute on the second bite at goal after Sando goalkeeper Jason Belfon had parried the initial attempt.

Belfon along with Grenada national teammates, cousins Shannon and Moron Phillip, and Rickson Phillip were part of five key transfer window signings started by a new-look Sando today.

Sando regular starting goalie Kelvin Henry was an unused substitute along with defenders Corneal Thomas and Amrit Gildharry and midfielder Shaquille Holder, while attackers Kevon Woodley, Akeem Humphrey and Devon Modeste were used within the final 30 minutes.

However it was Sando’s Grenada quartet’s fellow countryman and national teammate, Shemel Louison in goal for Jabloteh who enjoyed victory under the sunshine.

Sando’s recent signing, 20-year-old United States-born attacker Bradley Nestor had the best attempt on Louison’s goal when his free-kick flashed overbar midway into the first half, moments after Jabloteh’s Nathan Lewis struck the Sando upright on the opposite end with a cheeky attempt to beat Belfon at the near upright.

Belfon was later unable to meet Fabian Reid’s well-struck penalty strike in the 75th minute and Jabloteh were in front 2-1.

Referee Keilon Bacchus awarded the penalty after Kennedy Hinkson, who was tripped just outside the edge of the box by defender Kevon Neaves, went skidding into the area.

Sando contested the penalty decision but Bacchus’ judgement was final, while Jabloteh felt compensated after only winning a free-kick at the edge of the area three minutes into the second period after arguing that Bonval was tripped inside the box by the same Neaves.

Jabloteh will return to the Larry Gomes Stadium on Sunday against North East Stars, while Sando must face W Connection on the same day. Both games kick off from 3:30 pm.

Central move five points clear with Akeem Adams Trophy in hand.
ttproleague.com

Central FC’s excellent run of form has reached a new high—five points clear at the top of the Digicel Pro League standings with an 11-game undefeated streak and the Round Two Akeem Adams Trophy in hand—after defeating cellar-placed St. Ann’s Rangers 3-1 on Saturday.

Marcus Joseph and Kadeem Corbin both scored in the second half to seal Central’s fifth consecutive win after new Rangers’ signing Johan Peltier had made it 1-1 on 28 minutes following Leston Paul’s opening item in the 15th minute at the Larry Gomes Stadium.

Joseph, now with 10 league goals this season, netted in his fifth consecutive game to return Central’s lead on 56 minutes before Corbin snatched his first ever Couva Sharks goal in the 90th minute.

The victory improved Central’s place at the top of the league standings to 40 points, while hurdling rivals W Connection, who were defeated 2-0 by Club Sando simultaneously at the Mannie Ramjohn Stadium, by one point to retain the Akeem Adams Trophy which is awarded to the team with the highest points tally from Round Two in the league.

“In open play it’s really hard to beat us,” said Central FC director of operations Kevin Harrison prior to Saturday’s win over Rangers. “…unless there is a lack in concentration. While people may think it’s not the best squad we have, it’s the best system that we have played since the club was formed.

“The concept of our performances are based on high intensity play, and closing down the opponents quickly. We aspire towards the system of Bayern Munich.”

Central are unbeaten since sacking Ross Russell as coach in mid-December and installing assistant coach Dale Saunders as interim head coach, while managing director Brent Sancho and his Trinidad and Tobago 2006 World Cup teammate Stern John serves as assistant coaches.

Harrison added, “Brent, and Stern, coming in voluntarily, are assisting Dale with the wealth of knowledge and experience they have. But there are underlying factors under the new regime. They had a look into the squad and the moral of the players to get a better understanding. There is now a great level of respect on the training ground with every player working hard and the team is now gelling better.”

Connection’s prior two-point lead in the race for the Akeem Adams Trophy was reduced to nothing in their final Round Two game after Sando scored twice in a four-minute spell to inflict a second league upset over the Savonetta Boys on Saturday.

Devon Modeste, scorer in a 1-0 win over Connection in Round One on Jan. 9, converted from the penalty spot in the 53rd minute to put Sando ahead 1-0.

Referee Keilon Bacchus pointed to the spot after Sando midfielder Ryan Frederick, in an attack towards goal, was tripped in the area by Briel Thomas. A minute later Thomas tried to redeem himself with a header off a Shahdon Winchester cross but Sando goalkeeper Jason Belfon—one of four Grenada national team signings made by Sando in the mid-season transfer window—did well to clear the ball away from goal.

However Sando doubled the advantage 2-0 in the 56th minute through Kevon “Showtime” Woodley.

Woodley smashed a low Jesse Downing right-side cross beyond goalkeeper Julani Archibald and into the net after the cross had beaten the legs of defender Daneil Cyrus in his first game back for Connection after a loan stint with MLS outfit Chicago Fire last year.

Ten minutes later Archibald made a brilliant save to equal a lob-attempt from distance by Modeste.

But Connection were left reeling in frustration after being denied three times by the frame in the second half.

Not long after the break, a Kurt Frederick cross skidded off Belfon’s crossbar and in the 78th minute substitute Akeem Garcia rattled the bar from inside the area.

Garcia tried his luck again with a curling attempt from above the area but was just wide of the top corner eight minutes from time.

Connection finally conceded snapping their eight-game undefeated streak after Winchester headed onto the crossbar in stoppage-time before gifting Belfon an easy take off the rebound.

Connection, second on the league standings with 35 points, will shift their focus to the quest of a fifth Concacaf Champions League qualification this week, when they host CS Moulien (Guadeloupe), Inter Moengotapoe (Suriname), and Atletico San Cristobal (Dominican Republic) in Group One of the opening round of the 2016 Caribbean Club Championship.

Defence Force (33 points) are third on the DPL standings and will face eight-placed Morvant Caledonia United (16 points) from 3:30 today (Sunday) at the Mannie Ramjohn Stadium, while simultaneously at the Larry Gomes Stadium North East Stars, sixth with 23 points, will welcome fifth-placed San Juan Jabloteh (26 points) in a mid-table clash.

Police FC sits in fourth, one point ahead of Jabloteh, after a late Glenn Sutton goal gave ninth-placed Point Fortin Civic a 2-1 win over the Lawmen at the Mahaica Oval on Saturday.

Sylvester Teesdale fired Civic ahead in the 31st minute and Jameel Perry equalised for Police on 79 minutes, before Sutton grabbed the winner for the home side with five minutes left.

I heard it have 20 people in attendance for the Morvant Caledonia United v Defence Force game today and half of them is the Defence Force players who didn't make the squad.

Would really like to know what Skeene have in store seeing that government help could be a thing of the past soon.

What is also interesting is, a few days ago they brought out the fixtures for this week, and then a day before the actual games, they changed it and I am assuming they changed it because of W Connection and Central participation in the CFU cup, but what is strange they knew about the CFU months now.

So, these guys really making a mess of the T&T league.

The constant changing of schedule drives me crazy. Why can't they stick to the damn schedule. The league becomes a long drawn out affair with no one being interested.

Nathan Lewis brace secures Jabloteh win over troubled N/E Stars.
ttproleague.com.

San Juan Jabloteh beat North East Stars 3-1 on Sunday as the Sangre Grande outfit recorded their seventh straight league game without a win.

Trinidad and Tobago 2006 World Cup member Anthony Wolfe marked his return to North East Stars with a goal-assist, but ex-employers Jabloteh frolicked courtesy a second half Nathan Lewis brace.

The result moved Jabloteh up a spot on the Digicel Pro League 2015-16 standings into fourth with 29 points, six points behind W Connection and 11 points away from leaders Central FC, while the troubled North East Stars, once leaders this season, continue to occupy sixth spot with 23 points.

Defence Force (36 points) also moved up a spot on Sunday, hurdling W Connection for second by a point to keep the pressure on Central FC by trimming the Couva Sharks lead to four points after a late 2-1 win over eight-placed Morvant Caledonia United.

Forwards Richard Roy and Devorn Jorsling scored in the 82nd minute and third minute of stoppage-time, respectively, for Marvin Gordon’s men, before Kareem Joseph pulled back a consolation item for Caledonia in the fourth minute of stoppage-time at the Mannie Ramjohn Stadium in Marabella.

At the Larry Gomes Stadium on Malabar, Keith Jeffrey’s Jabloteh went ahead 1-0 on 24 minutes through Jamaican midfielder Fabien Reid.

North East Stars goalkeeper Shane Mattis slowed the pace on his countryman’s initial attempt, but Reid, who was picked out inside the area, was quick to find his way around the ‘keeper to regain possession before hitting into an open net.

Jabloteh took the one-goal advantage into the break, however seconds after the restart, striker Gorean “Ratty” Highley pulled Ross Russell’s men level 1-1 with a left-footed volley that bounced beyond goalkeeper Shemel Louison and into the net.

That goal arrived when the 32-year-old Wolfe, who recently re-joined to the Sangre Grande club after stints in India with Churchill Brothers and Sporting Goa, headed Jesus Perez’s long pass from the back into the path of Highley.

But Jabloteh fired back almost immediately, putting the score at 2-1, when Lewis struck past Mattis from close-up off a right side cross in the 47th minute.

Jabloteh in an attempt to extend the lead saw defender Aquil Selby head a Keyon Edwards free-kick onto the crossbar in the 57th minute and moments later Mattis had to tip behind another free-kick.

Mattis was also lucky midway in the first half when Stars’ captain Keryn Navarro cleared off the line after the Jamaican misjudged an Edwards’ free-kick which was headed to goal by Garth Thomas.

There was little though that Mattis could do on 75 minutes when Lewis completed his double for the 3-1 score with a superb volley to beat the former Jabloteh ‘keeper off a Sean Bonval cross.

Louison prevented another North East Stars with late saves to deny a Jean-Luc Rochford free-kick five minutes from time and a stoppage-time attempt from Anthony Guppy, who had struck the upright on the hour mark.

Results

North East Stars 1 (Gorean Highley 46’) vs San Juan Jabloteh 3 (Fabien Reid 24’, Nathan Lewis 47’, 75’), at Larry Gomes Stadium;

Morvant Caledonia United 1 (Kareem Joseph 90’+4) vs Defence Force 2 (Richard Roy 82’, Devorn Jorsling 90’+3), at Mannie Ramjohn Stadium.

Unused substitutes: 22.Cleon John (GK), 2.Reon Moore, 23.Brendon Figuera, 39.Taryk Sampson

Coach: Ross Russell

The constant changing of schedule drives me crazy. Why can't they stick to the damn schedule. The league becomes a long drawn out affair with no one being interested.

A break was scheduled for the CFU. However, Central's group was moved to 9th - 13th March due to the Jamaican General Elections.
The schedule has had to be changed yet again because the Minister of Sport has decided that while he will allow free use of stadiums to Pro League teams, he is not prepared to fund the lights at weekends. Therefore many games have to be played at 3.30 or 4pm now.
On Valentines Sunday Central played at 3.30 at Ato and took $120 at the door. It cost us $1,910 to put on the game (ambulance $660, security $440, dj/announcer $500, ball boys $210, gate person $100)
Last Saturday, Rangers hosted us at Larry Gomes at 3.30 and didn't charge at the gate because it simply wasn't worth making the effort.
Clubs have also been told that they have to pay if they want to train at the stadium fields.
It is very frustrating for all clubs. I know it's a struggle for the league to find grounds, but it certainly doesn't help clubs to generate income.

This is horrible....

What's interesting is Defence Force and Police FC automatically has the advantage being government employees and the regular clubs should remind the MoS about this.

So FS, you CFU games are now on the 9th and 13th?

Army and Police don't receive any subventions and have to depend on their relative donors to supply funds for football. The Police Sports Club funds their football, but they too have had cuts. They recently released all civilian players who received stipends.
But yes they have advantages. When we shared a double header with Police, they had a police vehicle and police staff as ambulance cover and uniformed police as security. However, those policemen just watched the game while people snuck into the ground for free which they were supposed to prevent. So Central paid their costs, while Police lost us money!
We all know that many people don't value the Pro League, but if it's not supported by the people or the government then we won't have performances like last night from Connection. Trinidad teams are the most successful at CFU and teams want to avoid them in the champions league. Our national team will suffer.

Here's a thing -  Jan-Michael Williams received $33,000 last year from the 83,000 subvention (if you divide the annual subvention between the number of players on the squad) He is the most successful Trinidadian goalkeeper currently playing - in fact, you could call him an elite athlete.

Narine just received $35,000 from Minister of Sport to help his bowling action. He's a multi millionaire!

But elite athletes receive up to $250,000 per year from SPORTT. Some of those people will never win a medal or finish in the top 5 at olympics and some of them will and are already earning huge appearance fees.

I don't begrudge olympians their funding, but I do think that our number one sport should be better supported.

FS, welcome back from the posting hiatus.

You mentioned taking $120 at the gate, but you didn't mention what the gate should/likely would have been but for the scheduling change. That is useful missing info.

FS, welcome back from the posting hiatus.

You mentioned taking $120 at the gate, but you didn't mention what the gate should/likely would have been but for the scheduling change. That is useful missing info.

If marketed correctly, the "El Classico" games between Central & Connection - if backed up by a game featuring Point or Sando- can bring in $5,000 plus. Still not a lot, but it at least covers the cost of hosting the game. I budgeted for taking $4,500 per double header - $2,250 per team. Thats around 150 adults (some of whom would have pro league season tickets)
We started to place advertising boards at our games. We built the boards and offered free placement once banners were supplied. The idea is to create interest and then charge say $300 per game. Ato let us store the boards there as transport costs made it impractical. It was working until somebody stole 5 banners and smashed up 3 boards. However, the person was identified and has reimbursed the club. We now have a car company looking to spend $5,000 to advertise next season, a travel agent, a hotel and several others interested. This would, at least, generate some income.

By the way, AS, I visit the site often, but stay clear of posting unless I can provide some info!
